Sorry bit boring I know but I didn't want to make any reference to spot as I don't want to jinx her and have her baby come early, then it would be my fault. Also didn't want the mad rush at the end of the thread. This way we've had plenty of time.

Oh and I meant to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Miss O!!

VagolaJahooli · 25/11/2010 12:20

Happy birthday miss O. Haven't been on all morning as clearly MN IT bods have been working on this new fancy mobile site so could use with Desire phone.

Had a nice night at the pirate family restaurant and the came home put the boys to bed at 8.30 at promptly fell asleep myself. Was woken as usual at 5 am but feel a lot more human. However, DS2 is being a bit 'challenging' today. Luckily a friend asked me over to have coffee and lunch so we have gotten out but can't do shopping as DH should have been paid on 23rd but for the 3rd month in a row the company is late with pays and we pay our credit cards off automatically on the 25th so have no money in our account and they don't have overdrafts here so I can't do any shopping or get my bike tyre fixed until DH gets home to transfer the money from our savings account. I don't know how to use the little internet dohicky that we use to do the transfer.

Sorry that was a bit of a rambled stream of crap but I'm a little miffed.

Bugger now I can't remember anything of what I just read, but I will say to Urbs, Sibble, silly name but good cricketer huh.

Hello everyone, trying to catchup. Back later.

JamInMyWellies · 25/11/2010 12:36

Oh and a Happy Birthday to all who I missed while away.

LadyThompson · 25/11/2010 12:46

Well, it's a sea of balloons here Grin O's room is still on the mezzanine overlooking our bedroom, and she peers down at us in the morning Hmm so I hit upon the idea of blowing up loads of balloons late last night and covering the bed and bedroom with them so when she looked down this morning she had a big surprise. It worked, if anyone's after a cheap way to surprise their littles on a birthday morn. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Her favourite present was one of those hamsters that whizzes over the floor (DB I think you bought a couple recently). I have got a very small cake and a couple of candles, and we may try to go to a soft play pub later but the closest one is miles away.

Vag, that reaching into the loo story had me wretching. I think I would have been tempted just to flush the chain.

JB, you are very restrained, not finding out the sex!

Invis, I am glad work has not vaporised you! And I hope you are getting to some exciting places even if you aren't actually seeing much of them when you are there...

Rubes, keeping necking the meds! See the Apprentice last night? The usual cringefest.

ZJ- gifts for other halves - I am stuck this year. I know DP wants an electric double bass (in general,I don't mean from me) but I can't afford it as they are £££. I would love to buy him a posh shed but again, £££. He is hard to buy for and I've used up all my good ideas in recent years. So I dunno...I will think of a book for your Secret Santa though.

Urbane, I am following the Ashes! I say 'following', rather than watching, as we haven't got Sky here Sad I have it in London but I don't have Sky Sports any more. So it's Test Match Special for me and the highlights on ITV. My ringtone is Test Match Special and if they trail it as they tend to, I always think it's my phone. Hey, a MONKEY GLAND?? What on earth is in that cocktail?

DB, hope you feel better soon. How was your DS's birthday?

Spot, since Dahlia was born, late pyjamas have been the order of the day for me...I do try to got for a walk every day if I can. Even if it's dark. Heaven knows I need the exercise.

Did anyone watch Any Human Heart then? I enjoyed it, I caught up last night.

EffiePerine · 25/11/2010 13:11

Brrrr. Off into town shortly to buy buttons. Freezing out there.

Xmas presents: I confess that I am planning to buy DH a jaffle iron so he can make cheese toasties on the fire. Simple pleasures and all that. Am also considering stalking eBay for a velvet smoking jacket. A good combo I feel.

spotofcheerfulness · 25/11/2010 13:53

Happy Birthday ms O. That's a lovely idea about the balloons, nice thinking.
I confess I can't bear to watch Any Human Heart as I loved the book so much I just feel that the series can't possibly compare.

Rubes that's a shame about next week, I am around on Weds if you fancied coming then - Effie I am around on both days so will be lovely to see you whichever you can make it. I have told DP that "effie off the telly" is coming, he is tres excited to be welcoming celebrity through the doors.

waitinggirl · 25/11/2010 13:57

very quickly - wonderful happy birthday to little miss O!

no, i don't know the sex - i like surprises and i think life doesn't have enough, and either way it'll be a lovely one. although this one is kicking me stupid, so suppose that means a boy, then.

ashes... am trying to persuade dh that staying up late OR getting up early is the way to do it, not both.

after a few days of dh being great, he's been feeling crap again. he even gets a bit of a stutter when he's feeling low, which makes him seem even more vulnerable and small. he's got 2 more phone numbers to call of personal recommendations to find someone to speak to about it all.

oh, and had the gtt today - scan next week, results thereafter. sure it's fine, but best to safe than sorry. was jolly glad dh took madam out for the morning, so i didn't have to wrangle her at the hospital, though.

have no idea about xmas presents - am so crap at it.

spot - sorry to hear about the change of heart yet again about london v brighton. and that you and dp are finding things tough. i have no advice, only sympathy.

am sure there was something else, but madam is asleep upstairs in her cot, in her coat and probably pooey nappy as she fell asleep in the car and i just wasn't risking waking her up unnecessarily to change her out of her coat/nappy. am i a bad mum? i fear the lack of sleep more than the nappy rash. ugh. must go and achieve. while i have peace and quiet in the house.

waitinggirl · 25/11/2010 14:09

oh, yes, tales of domestic banality: the empty wine bottle stayed on top of the counter (and if you saw how small our kitchen was, you'd know quite how annoying that is) until dh did the recycling on mon eve. the second empty wine bottle was finished and was placed on said counter last night. ugh. this social experiement isn't working, guys!

although i did make a yummy veggie dahl last night (my first) albeit with some extra bacon in there. i'm sorry, i just can't help myself.

must. stop. wittering. and. start. achieving.

LadyThompson · 25/11/2010 14:57

Oh, Effie I meant to say - sitting at the computer with a mug of coffee as big as your head sounded so nice. And I like the sound of a purple smoking jacket. It's symptomatic of my state of mind and life that indoor leisure wear sounds massively appealing.

Spot - it seems like they have made a decent fist of the adaptation though I haven't read the book - Boyd has adapted it himself. Although...in my old job as a literary agent I didn notice that it was often better to get another writer to adapt a book for telly as they had necessary distance. I was remarking to DP how sad and poignant the episode was and he was genuinely baffled. "Why? He was shagging all that top totty". Sigh. And there is the difference between (some) men and women.

I hope your DH finds someone to buck him up a bit, WG. I really really do. Poor man.

SummerLightning · 25/11/2010 15:36

I haven't watched Any Human Heart yet, waiting for a chance as DH refuses to watch with me. Also trying to watch Pillars of the Earth which he refuses to watch and which is trashtastic, I love it. I actually didn't like the book of Any Human Heart much, I found Logan (is it? Is that the book or is that New confessions) v annoying, so I think actually I may miss the point too. He does nowt much except shag top totty.

Just ordered DS balance bike for birthday/XMas. Very excited.

Sorry must go again. DD crying.

VagolaJahooli · 25/11/2010 18:08

Hello ladies, I've been in a foul mood all day so hence the previous grumpy post (& misspelled SiDDLe). But I'm off out now for a girls night at a posh Italian place. We have all been so looking forward to it, will be brilliant.

Right gotta go no time for other personals

DeidreBarlow · 25/11/2010 18:29

veggie have a lovely evening!

lady We put balloons up for DS, he came downstairs and said "ooo baaoooons".

rubes the talking toolbox is crap tbh (and really noisy while they are all 'singing'), but DS loves it and has literally played with it non stop. He also got the FP Garage last Xmas - again a great favourite of his. He usually sends the Go-Go Hamsters down itHmm

effie Smoking jacket sounds brilliant.

DS still not eating, snot everywhere! DH out tonight on his works Xmas do so I intend to go to bed with the DC's and hopefully I'll feel better in the morning. I am so looking forward to our night away tomorrow, and just want to feel well enough to enjoy it properly. Lets just hope Peter Kay is funny or I will feel pretty cheated. All being well we will go for drinks after the show, and the hotel has a late bar. Plus we are going with DH's best friend and his wife, so if they can't cheer me up no-one canGrin

EffiePerine · 26/11/2010 07:19

Morning all :). I'm on the train again, so if this is cut short it's because I have entered the Witham Triangle. And for some reason the phone's clock goes funny round Ingatestone. Maybe there's a secret research establishment they're not telling us about.

Now the mobile site's actually working, it's pretty good, eh?

Heading to work and not too happy about it. Obv reasons, plus DS1 had a near miss with a car yesterday (not our cm's fault, some eejit reversing back across a pedestrian crossing) and I hate that I wasn't there. Esp as I was dossing at home and could easily have kept him with me. DH wanted to drop the boys off to MIL's next week without me (we're having an unheard of grown up night out in London) and I freaked at the thought of them being in the car without me there. I know they are safe with DH, but what if? This is of course paranoid and silly, and I need to pull myself together.

Anyway, hope you are all staying warm and cozy. We actually had snow yesterday, but a half hearted flurry that didn't settle. Temps dropping further over the weekend. I will have to light a virtual candle to the patron saint of whoever looks after dodgy boilers, radiators and assorted heating systems. Beans: is yours properly fixed yet?

Beans33 · 26/11/2010 12:14

What are those hamsters called please, Lady??! I want to get DD one!

HAPPY BDAY TO ALL SO FAR! Sorry only to be brief, have endless cleaning to do as friends comign to stay for weekend and house total pit!

Bad news is that I have to have wisdom tooth removed next Friday. EEEK!

xxx

Beans33 · 26/11/2010 15:24

PS Anyone else loving the excuse of coldness to stay inside snuggling? DD1 v affectionate at moment as both once again full of snot.

Just been playing footie in garden with DD1 in her last year's salopets. V glad she's a midget as she's in most of her 12-18 month stuff still! Have come in after 20 mins and her fingers are blue, but we had a real laugh.

DH is doing a thing called the Hell Run tomorrow and wants me and the girls to go and watch. It's due to be 2 degrees tomorrow and I'm just not sure with the snot that it's a good idea. He won't mind if we don't, but will probably be a bit disappointed. Canvassing opinion...

Effie - try not to fret - these things could happen whether you're with him or not. Our nippers have a mind of their own and don't you beat yourself up about it. Not worth it!

Lady - that is such a brilliant idea about the balloons. Unfortunately, DD1 is terrified of them. Honestly, it's almost funny watching her reaction, but that would be cruel of me to laugh. I have to bite my lip! But I'd love to do it otherwise!!!

KiwiPanda · 26/11/2010 17:24

Hello all! Have been very lax in my MN again recently. DD has been off nursery all week with tonsilitis, which has been doing my head in a bit. Once she was past the poorly stage she was just very whingey (gosh I'm mean) and giving her antibiotics is HELL. The girl can really escape from any position and any attempt to bribe her just gets greeted with increasingly hysterical shouts of "No medicine! NO MEDICINE!"

Anyway, I hope everyone is well - I have about 4530498679458 pages to catch up on so feel free to give me the edited highlights. Anyone a) clackered b) had a baby recently???

KiwiPanda · 26/11/2010 17:25

ps Effie there's a MN mobile site?? This could revolutionise my life!

VagolaJahooli · 26/11/2010 17:43

Right I have had to resort to using the laptop to post. I can read the thread on my phone but can't post. I wrote a big post but cant get it off my phone and onto here, and now i cannot remember what I wrote.

I think i said that the near miss sounded scary for Effie and that i hoped Beans wasn't in too much pain with her teeth.

I also said i had a good night last nigh,t tres expensive, first time Ive spent 140 euros on 3 bottles of booze, but was very very nice. But best of all the company was great, was very funny us all toddering home on our bikes, esp as one of the girls came on the tram so one of the others who rode her bakfiets, boxbike, gave the other a lift in the box at the front, was quite off balance so very funny.

bugger gotta go stop WW3 which is kicking off in my livingroom.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 26/11/2010 17:50

I think they're Go Go hamsters? I would, only I am trying hard to avoid annoying toys that make noises and/or run out of batteries. It won't last.

Thanks Beans, you are right of course. I'm angry at the stupid driver - not DS1's fault at all, she reversed without looking in her mirror.

Anyone got snow? I think we may get a little bit, not enough to be snowed it (boo).

Beans: I wouldn't take DD if she had a temp. If she's fine in herself, maybe go along for the start then come home if they get too chilly? Your DH is v keen to respond to sub-zero temps by going for a brisk run. My reaction is to stock up on suet and DVDs.

Ha! Phone ate my post but I rememberedto copy it first!

EffiePerine · 26/11/2010 17:52

Kiwi: there shd be a link to the mob site top rh corner. Or put m. infront of the address

SummerLightning · 26/11/2010 18:02

Just testing mobile site from my phone

EffiePerine · 26/11/2010 18:03

(but there are teething problems). Actually just don't. Have tried to post this 3 times.

Veggie: glad you had a good night. Love the image of you all rambunctiously careering through the Hague on your bikes :).

Kiwi: hope your DD feels better soon. 'Medicine' is pretty advanced linguistically!

VagolaJahooli · 26/11/2010 19:07

Just testing if this works now.
