Sorry bit boring I know but I didn't want to make any reference to spot as I don't want to jinx her and have her baby come early, then it would be my fault. Also didn't want the mad rush at the end of the thread. This way we've had plenty of time.

Happy New Year Australia! Grin

MomOrMum · 31/12/2010 14:34

Thanks for the sympathy everyone! Not much deserved but very welcome. I've had 3 good nights sleep, DS has given us a few nights of blissful sleepy peace, and the world is a better place! Most boring NYE in history planned tonight with DH and SIL, but I did get a bottle of pink fizz. If we walk 20 m out of our front door we can see the fireworks on Southbank, so really we should be able to at least stay up until midnight and do that much!

Vag Glad you're feeling okay about the result. I agree with Rubes that as it has been nearly 20 days (correct?) since the deed, a test would show up pos by now almost certainly.

Unlike Avo, my NY resolution is to spend MORE time on Mnet given that I now have a fancy iphone! Very exciting. It isn't working yet and I have to get into a Carphone Warehouse shop before it will work, but very excited about the possibilities. This is the gadget that's going to get me through the marathon night feeds in a few months.

Rubena · 31/12/2010 16:08

Hi Mom - I must say your Chrissy experience sounded very trying... Well done for not coming unglued! Glad you've had some rest.
I have a wierd feeling Vagola is going to come on a tell us she has a wierd positive next Grin

Well I have finally got thru to the GP as I wanted to either make a double appt for ds and I or at least one of us and the first available is the 6th Shock I said I would just come and sit and wait on Tues (as she rudely reminded me that they were closed Mon) and was told I would be flatly refused a sit and wait and that all I could do is call to see if anyone has cancelled! Have the rules changed?

vagolaJahooli · 31/12/2010 16:13

About to get ourselves ready to go over to our friends house. But wanted to pop on and say Merry Christmas.

Also Lady I've finished 'The Help' and really enjoyed it, in fact more than I've enjoyed a book for a while. Do you have any other recommendations. I have easy access to English language books now. DH has downloaded a load of books that were in the NY times top 10 but most seem like action style ones, the only author I recognize is Jodi Picoult.

Sorry missed your post Pubes, don't say that!!! I'm ready to get blattered tonight, I don't want to be preggars.

That is really rude of the receptionist. I don't want to offend anyone who knows a medical or health receptionist in the UK but seriously they are a big problem. Not all of course but many are so rude, and really rub people who are already a little stressed up the wrong way. When I had a breast ultrasound done privately a few years ago by a Very good consultant, she and I were discussing the fact that even though we worked in the NHS we still used (and in her case worked in) the private sector. We were saying one of the big differences were the reception staff. Both of us felt that we often got abuse ourselves from patients who had already been pissed off by the reception staff. Rubes if it is something that has been in place before question the doctor when you go for the appointment a week is way too long to wait. If you get no joy speak to the practice manager. If still no good complain to the PCT.

Not many posts left, but is there anyway we can stretch this thread out so that effie's DS turns 2 on it along with all his friends? Not if I waste valuable posts with thoughts like this!

Our friends have cancelled tonight, due to the lurgy, DH is trying hard not to be miffed about it, but I can tell he is. So we'll have a fun one tonight! Although if DD coughs as much as she did last night then we'll only be cuddling her anyway. I took her to the Drs this morning with her cough, only the 3rd time I've ever taken her as she's normally so strong, and have got some lurid yellow anti biotics for her so I hope they kick in quickly

Mom I'm with you with lots of mn with my new iPhone, I am impressed with Avo's resolutions but will come up with something far less challenging for myself.

Just heard my boss has got an MBE today, I'm thrilled for her, she's a lovely lady and fair boss and deserves it for her hard work

Happy new year one and all xx

Indith · 31/12/2010 17:37

Vag glad you are happy with your result :)

Rubes how terrible! I thought everywhere had on the day appointments for urgent need? At mine you can ring first thing in the morning and they have a set number of slots set aside in the morning and afternoon for people who need ot be seen teh same day.

No plans for tonight other than eat curry made by dh, slob and perhaps indulge in some sloe gin or elderberry vodka.

JamInMyWellies · 31/12/2010 19:50

Hello girls, just a quick one before I get too battered to type. A very happy new year to you all. Thanks so much for being there for me during the rubbish times and for celebrating the joyous occasions.

I very much look forward to us continuing our friendships into the new year and beyond.

Happy New Year much love, Jammy. Xx

LadyThompson · 31/12/2010 20:27

Hello kiddiwinks!

How times have changed...Well DB, you asjed about people's plans: I am staying in, having a cheese salad and a spot or two of the old sparkletons, watching 'Enchanted April' on DVD as it's heavenly, and that's it. I wish I was abroad, I cannot lie, but it will still be a nice evening.

Dear Vag, I am pleased for you re: the result if it is the one you wanted. Contraception is such a headache. I can't see me getting through the next ten years without several such scares Hmm Despite wanting to stick at two nippers, probably for all the reasons Rubes mentions, I am enjoying DD2 sooooooo much....But I wouldn't have another one unless I could go back to the same consultant and we flatly cannot afford it. Also, since I am 38 I am not sure whether it would be wise as the recovery from DD2 was of course rather hideous. There are other reasons, all of which probably sound quite shallow and financial.

Avo, we didn't have a Mung Bean Christmas as we got the car going on the 23rd! Though it was delightful to have the full Sainsbo Christmas, it hasn't benefitted my waistline...And we have put away a bottle of Baileys between us since Christmas Eve. Ulp. When are you moving? I loved the stories of your DDs. And they are such chums, it's lovely. Did you get to DR's on the 28th? As for hols, I don't really know - we want warm, but not too far so at that time of year, it's probably Egypt or the Canaries. I'd rather Morocco or Tunisia or Cyprus or Turkey but it's just not warm enough in Feb. I'm not jazzed about the Canaries because in my admittedly very limited experience of 'em they seem a bit touristy. I am not a travel snob by any means, but it's just nice to eat local food when on hols, and I remember it being a bit thin on the ground.

Invis, that is such a mystery about your DS's leg. Is it all better now?

One week on, Mum's arm is loads better, which really pleases me.

How are our flu-sters, ZJ, Beans and Mom? I am wary about going into London tomorrow for the weekend, which is unlike me but I REALLY don't want this 'flu...

Rubes, it will be grand to see you for lunch tomorrow! I can't say where we are going as I don't know yet but if anyone else fancies it, drop one of us a text.

Sybs, I hope your row is all sorted. Arguments are horrid any time of year but particularly bloody over this holiday.

Oh and Vag, I feel a bit of a fake as I haven't read The Help yet! Grin I just heard it was good. Oh, and you asked about my team's Swiss cricket tour. Well, that was in early May Grin and it was lovely thank you but the one I missed just after DD2 was born was to Malaysia, and they won both games and it all went brilliantly, by all accounts. I am just doing the fixtures for next season - nearly arranged them all, actually. And am just starting to organise a mini tour at the end of next May to, er, Bordeaux Because Bordeaux is obviously most famous for its cricket Wink

I loved seeing my family over the Christmas period, bless 'em. It's been a hectic Christmas really, but very nice. My NY resolutions are fairly simple:

  1. Get confident on public transport with the giant double buggy
  2. Move house
  3. Get some work done
  4. The usual ever-present chestnut about getting thinner and fitter....

Love to you all and may 2011 be spiffing.

LadyThompson · 31/12/2010 20:28

Bless you Jam xxx Have you been on the pop?

LadyThompson · 31/12/2010 20:31

Oh, and to those ladies I did not specifically name in the above post, you are all smashing and I will be raising a glass to our entire coven merry band later on.

notjustanumber · 31/12/2010 20:42

Just nipping on to say hope the new year brings great things for everyone, whatever they may be (Glad you got the result you wanted, Veg).

We have had a lovely Xmas. I had a cold and DS2s eardrum burst again but that was it for the bad things (apart from DH and I irritate eachother when the kids are around, more than usual). We did visit some relatives over 3 days but the kids loved it and were spoilt with presents. I have had such a great time off living in a messy house and eating ovenables I do not want to go back to work :(

I hope all those with flu and dodgy stomachs recover soon, managed to avoid that so far, hurrah!

We put the boys in together today as they slept so well together when we were off visiting. We may live to regret it but it was a massive ordeal moving beds around etc with the offer of "help" from the older one and the younger one tripping over bits of furniture and having complaining about it. But we have a spare room now which is quite exciting.

My blood pressure is slowly rising in time with the pounding music that is being intermittently played next door. I feel its too early to tell them to turn it down but it makes me clench my teeth. DH longs for a detached house with no neighbours in throwing distance. Dont think we will ever be that lucky !

Anyway Rum and coke calls (i am so classy)

Happy New Year to everyone.

next year I will :

get fit again (made a start at already)
stop eating when I am bored (seriously bad habit)
be nicer to my husband.
spend money on myself regularly.... :)

Rubena · 31/12/2010 21:00

Well we have just returned from HarvesterHmm went for a walk to wear ds out really, and get him dinner there after the walk and ended up eating dinner ourselves since it's so close - oh what a glamourous life I lead Grin It was nice actually as ds behaved (sort of Hmm) DH is happy to have a quiet one due to work tomorrow and I'm escited to meet up with LadyT again! Grin and I second what Lady says - if anyone can meet up too for a cheeky NYD drink and perhaps lunch please get in touch!! Sybs I hope you are ok - if you fancy a quick last minute cheeky bit of cheerfulness jump on the train and text one of us!
Right, time for a spot more cheerfulness! Speaking of which how are you Spot family?

Ladies thanks for the laughs. Happy and healthy 2011 to you all x

SummerLightning · 31/12/2010 21:37

Hello all,
First of all a big congrats to spot. Oh dear I just typed that stop. Does not bode well. I hope you are doing ok, I saw your update on FB so I hope you have got a tiny bit of sleep now and it's not too awful sleepwise and you are getting nice snuggles. Do you have a name yet?

I appear to be drunk on half a bottle of wine. It may be a bit more than that now. Oh dear. We are having a quiet one. Have been away at my parents and then MILs and finally back and so have my laptop for proper posts.

Not too many MILisms this time, DH seemed more irritated with her than me, result. The usual, "Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night by now?" sort of shite. My sweetly phrased response, "oh, maybe, at this age, some of them do some of them don't" while thinking "FUCK OFF, FUCK OFF, OF COURSE THAT WOULD BE LOVELY" and her saying the usual "I had to go back to work when Ds/your DH was 2 hours old (I exaggerate but it's something like 3 weeks) so I just let him scream for 3 hours or so, I had no choice". Yawn. Oh dear appear to be bitching, but this was all minor irritation in the grand scheme of things.

Anyway no flu or illness here, sorry to all the illies, ZJ, Mom, Beans and co who had crappy Xmases due to flu.

DD has been sleeping like an absolute horror while we have been away, but was better last night. Started feeding every bloody 2 hrs, including feeding time so MAX 1.5 hr blocks of sleep, the little sod. I thought I had left severe sleep deprivation behind and somehow it's much worse when they are not newborn as you are not expecting it (for me anyway) She has got really chubby with rolls of fat everywhere though so perhaps she just heard it was Xmas and wanted to join in? Xmas Grin

Oh I had lots I wanted to say but I am forgetting all of it now. Oh yes trace how awful about your friend, so awful to think you can die of the flu, my thoughts are with his family.

Rubes DH is a big harvester fan. He likes the eat all you can salad Xmas Grin

Vagola, phew on the negative.

Well happy new year to you all, I think DH wants me to pay him some attentino fair enough I suppose!!

Oh my new Years Resolutions are just to lose the bloody baby weight and get fitter. DH has booked us a mountain biking weekend in april for my Xmas pressie so I have a goal! Though to be honest I would enjoy it fit or not will be able to do more if fit.

Stopping buggering around on my phone instead of playing with DS would also be a good resolution for me avo. Not sure I am going to resolve to stop completely.

Happy ny all.

Rubena · 31/12/2010 22:01

Just reading in between playing in the PGA? PMSL Summer - just quickly, as that is the WHOLE reason DH likes harvester! What is it about that bloody salad bar? I told him i can open a can of beetroot and a can of corn, some unripe mushy tomatoes and some cheap mayonaise and have it at home Hmm but he still loves it!! Oh and dh has bought me cycling clothes! Must get trailer soon! Right, my turn, not doing so well on the front 9

sybilfaulty · 31/12/2010 22:08

To all my kind and wise friends.... wishing you the best of years in 2011 and here's to health and happiness for us all. Lots of love from SE London

XXXX

SummerLightning · 31/12/2010 22:11

Ha ha Rubes. I have to admit I quite like it too. Pile it high with potato salad and pretend it is healthy.
I need to build a protective wall in the middle of my trailer before I can use it again!

Rubena · 31/12/2010 22:16

Hi Sybs. You're a woman of very few words.... as opposed to me. I know what another of my NY resolutions will be now.....

JumpJockey · 31/12/2010 22:48

Sneaking in before the thread ends to wish all you lovely ladies a healthy and happy 2011! My main resolution will be to have more patience with dd and stop expecting her to act like a grownup Blush also to shag more once I stop huffing and puffing at the slightest physical effot, not v sexy ...

Those checking on who's up next, I'm officially due 14 Feb but have strong feeling it will be before then , have been having mad BHs every 10 mins or so today and baby feeling quite 'ready' somehow. So clearly will come aftr WG delivers!

2011 may yet be v interesting, dh saying e's quite keen to look seriously into moving back to Glasgow, so we'll have to do some big thinking... See you all next year my loves :)

spotofcheerfulness · 31/12/2010 23:59

happy new year peeps! wow i'd forgotten how gruelling the first bit is when you're recovering from the birth, your nips are molton larva, milk not come in yet and the baby won't sleep anywhere but on you. and then a toddler gives you the guilts all day. in fact i had window of about an hour from 3-4am last night when ds2 was asleep but t was wide awake in hysterics screaming for me. so have had a total of 1,5hrs sleep in the last 48 hours. i forgot that you can't put them down at this stage.
anyhoo i just wnted to say thank you for being such a great support for me this year (and doubtless in 2011 too). you are all the bestest. xxx

notjustanumber · 01/01/2011 08:02

Hello Spot, forgot to say congratulations to you ! I hope you got a bit more sleep last night, the first week or so is the worst I think.

Happy New Year everyone !

sybilfaulty · 01/01/2011 10:03

Happy new year everyone!

Spot, huge congratulations on your son's birth. With toddler guilt, I found at the beginning to make sure the big one was settled with a drink and a rich tea before I fed the little one and also liberally applied Cbeebies or DVDs as required. It's hugely hard but does get easier to juggle the two of them very quickly.

Effie, happy birthday to Max. Have a great (and not hungover) day.

Jump, a move to Scotland sounds very exciting. Would you be able to work there after you've had DD2?

We had a very quiet night but it was jolly nice. Am now thinking of going for a run, and generally trying to look for the good things in my relationship rather than picking holes. It's going to be a struggle but I need ot sort it out one way or the other as I am not carrrying on like this for the next 20 years. I think seeking a bit of counselling is probably the first step. I don't quite know how we will fit it all in around DH's father's operations etc but we'll find a way.

Right, more tea and then breakfast
