Sorry bit boring I know but I didn't want to make any reference to spot as I don't want to jinx her and have her baby come early, then it would be my fault. Also didn't want the mad rush at the end of the thread. This way we've had plenty of time.

Well, I got into work but not sure I can get home again! I have two meetings today so hibernating at home sadly not an option.

JamInMyWellies · 30/11/2010 09:16

DH left at 7.20 for the train and is still not in London. Can you bin oyur meetings and go home again Effie?

Rubena · 30/11/2010 09:17

Snow Grin
Happy belated Nancy

VagolaJahooli · 30/11/2010 09:26

Morning ladies. No one seems at all bothered that it November and its snowing. This is very early...isn't it? We were having flurries until early last night we had a big dump. No more overnight so it should be gone by this afternoon so DS2 and I will go for a little walk in it this morning after my coffee.

ZJ I don't think there is anything I can say to make you feel better. I spend most of my life believing I am too shouty with the boys and I'm going to brake them. DS2 is a perfectly good eater but I still manage to end up in.arguments with him about it. Don't even get me started with DS1, he is sure to have an eating disorder at some point.

And speaking of saying no, DS2 can now say it three languages! He now pipes up with "nay nay nay nay" with everything he doesn't want to do. He did do something cute this morning, DH & I were talking about my niece Bronte. DS2 got very excited started shouting "Bontee, Bontee" and dragged me into the kitchen to point out the photo we have of my niece there. He hasnt seen her for a year!

I'm so confused about going to Lady's I'm sure we'll work something out. I don't want it to be stressful for you though Rubes. I could pick you up from Oxford train station but I don't have a baby seat anymore.

Urbs happy birthday for N for yesterday. That IKEA kitchen looks amazing.

Invisible where were you going from Heathrow? I wonder how Avo is getting on in Paris.

I can't remember anything else I've read, I'm a bit tired this morning. Not totally DS2's fault, I actually fell asleep while putting the boys to bed and woke around 9. DH was out with some clients at a Indian restaurant in Delft and had promised to bring me home a dish and a nan bread. The Indians restaurants arent that great here so I was quite excited about it. When he got home he discovered they hadn't given him the nan! Buggers. I had a little taste of the rest, it was ok but seriously I cook better curry than they do. Anyway will have the rest for lunch.

Unfortunately don't think I can do a night out on the 23rd now. Not sure if anyone is around just after christmas?

OP posts:
VagolaJahooli · 30/11/2010 09:34

Just realised I didn't finish the why I'm tired paragraph. It wasn't because I didn't get a nan bread. I think eating late made me unable to get off to sleep. I finally went off about 2am but was sleeping really light and woke and every little sound (not that I'm describing DHs snoring as a little sound). Those that have had problems with insomnia do you find when you do sleep that its a very light sleep? I'm usually a really deep sleeper. At least DS2 slept until nearly 6.

Also,

Happy Birthday Deids!

Hi Vag,
Don't worry yourself at all. I'd have two with me and even the train to oxford isn't straight forward (you see I'm about 2 miles from a train also) I think I'll just have to see what happens when the time comes, and see if I even have the car and all that and if I have to give it a miss, I'll have to unfortunately. You'd be more than welcome to stop in for a cuppa at mine though.

SummerLightning · 30/11/2010 10:15

Hi all,
Yay my day that ds is at nursery so will probably be online a wee bit today, sorry have been doing a lot of lurking.
House is a tip though must do lots of tidying today!

Oh secret Santa ifs sybs is offering to do it let's go with that keep it simple and everything! I am in! How about this friday for a deadline for signing up?
Vag when i have insomnia when i finally sleep it is always a light sleep. I am generally a light sleeper anyway - only sleep very deeply when really knackered.

Zj your dd sounds very cute with the spoons! Sympathies on the annoying no no no though, my ds is quite tryng at the moment. He's not toooo bad with no no no but he NEVER does anything i say unless it suits him and is ALWAYS beating up other children and pushing them at toddler groups. The local one round here is 2yrs and under but lots of over 2s go. I am worried he will get banned when he's 2 as the other older ones are mostly gentle. Oh also he doesnt say yes either! He just giggles for yes or says please.

Lady sorry about your sicky bug. That sounds bloody awful. Cant imagine that with 2 to look after. Glad you are on the mend though.

Zj any clues about your secret Santa person, what are they like? Are you thinking a novel? Sorry i haven't really been reading that much lately so may not be much use but there are lots of hookworms on here so sure we can come up with something.

Urbs happy birthday to your dd. Kitchen looks v cool glad you had such a nice day.

Avo your house decision is a tricky one. Good luck with it! I think what invisible says about separating not enjoying work from the work/life balance thing is a valid point. Though it is all linked i suppose. I know whart you mean about liking privacy but i think an au pair could be a good option if you can get a good one! Maybe you could plan on keeping working and the nanny but have that as a fallback if you decide you want to cut hours.

Right must go have massive sainsburys order (over 100 quid midweek - free delivery - thanks rubes) to put away.

SummerLightning · 30/11/2010 10:16

Oh and i meant to say hi to lowrib who we havent seen around these parts for ages, and to indith too!

MomOrMum · 30/11/2010 10:18

Yay - fluffy white snow! Journey to work was surprisingly fine, but let's see what happens on the way home.

Lady, I'm feeling very well pregnancy wise. Haven't reached the really uncomfortable 3rd trimester phase yet.

Shocking month or so of sleep with DS and multiple chest infections and nasty big 2-year molars coming through. But I know there's lots of people on here that know about bad sleep!

Happy birthday to all the early Dec 08 babes and to Deids!

I just bought that very same kitchen for my DS this weekend. I am irrationally excited about it. WG have you looked at John Lewis for accessories (utensils, food, etc.)? They have some cute things that are much easier to get than having to trek around various Ikeas.

Very pedantic, but I'm copying the list and adding my DS on the 16th. Think Kiwi is missing too? Anyone else?

Where do you live Pubes? I know I should know.

I've broken my glasses Bugger. I'm now wearing my nd dodgy free pair instead of my pretty marc Jacobs. It's the only vaguely fashionable thing I wear. Now, broken. I can't be flitting about fashionable Antwerp next week in these dodgy specs! Looks like I'll be shoving the old daily disposables in my peepers.

Right DS2 off to sleep time to clean the bathroom.

OP posts:
Rubena · 30/11/2010 11:40

Vag - I'll FB you the postcode and you can google map it.
Speaking of Marc Jacobs (sorry about the specs Vag) Has anyone tried Marc Jacobs Lola perfume?

waitinggirl · 30/11/2010 12:51

my daughter thinks mr tumble's invitation to "take your finger, touch your nose, blink 3 times" etc is an invitation to pick her nose for the next 20 minutes.

spotofcheerfulness · 30/11/2010 13:42

Oh FGS, T has ANOTHER ear infection, up all last night and back to the docs we go this avo. Need to get my begging face on. Stupid question, but what do you do if they say no? Make an appt with another doc and try them or just hold tightly onto the door frame until they have to prise my white knuckles away? Also, even if I do get a referral it will prob be for next year, and need to somehow get through this winter first. Am so convinced this baby is coming early I keep getting jumpy and not putting down the deposit for the pool as I can't use it before 37 weeks and that's not til a week on Fri. Please send stay in there vibes to this little wriggler!

Mom thanks for the advice on the cranial osteo - I actually went for an appt last week and have another booked for next. I am normally a bit sceptical about alternative therapies but this kind of makes sense to me as it all seems to be about drainage or lack thereof.
Sorry that you've been through the mill with the chest infections. Have you been on a merry go round of antibiotics or have you managed to ride it out?

WG that is funny about DD picking her nose. T is equally obsessed with Misstumle and for ages kept yelling "peas tell me" over and over at the top of his voice on buses. It took DP to tell me that it was the beginning of "please tell me your name" but he just never made it that far...

Vag how did you break your specs? Did you get in a cocktail-fuelled punchup again?
Sorry about rubbish night though, I also get the light sleeping thing through insomnia. But I am a v light sleeper anyway so a late meal just compounds the situation. If you're normally a good sleeper I won't share my (mainly useless) insomnia tips but I was wondering what time of day you have your last coffee as that really affects me.

Have you all taken your DCs to the dentists, btw? Have been putting it off but now am wondering if T has tooth decay which is somehow connected to ear probs...

spotofcheerfulness · 30/11/2010 13:42

Forgot to ask how things are in the Rubes and LadyT houses of ill?

EffiePerine · 30/11/2010 14:14

Spot: DS1 was 3 when I took him. If you're concerned you can ask your dentist I suppose. Good luck with the GP. Def demand that they do something, it's ridiculous that they're shrugging it off.

Happy birthday to Deids! And a belated happy birthday to young Nancy.

Jam: I was on the 6.48 and it was delayed but ok. The train problems seem to have abated for the time being, but I'm keeping a close eye! My afternoon meeting has been cancelled due to the person being snowed in so I can pop off early if necessary.

MomOrMum · 30/11/2010 14:44

Really quick one...

Spot - Nope, no riding it out unfortunately. Two rounds of antibiotics for DS in the last 3-4 weeks. Really hoping this round works. He seems much better now, except for the bl(*&dy teeth. I hope the osteo might help poor T - it does make sense re: drainage, etc. I had SPD (pelvic pain thing) in my last pregnancy and the osteo sorted it out, so I really believe in them now.

Hoping other sick houses are the on the up(Lady and O and your vomming bug...). I have never been ill or on the verge of being ill as much as I have this winter. Maybe I should have had the flu jab as GP advised??

My DS is always talking about Mr Tumble, which is how I know that TV is on at the childminder in the day because we've never watched Mr. Tumble at home!

waitinggirl · 30/11/2010 14:45

spot - if they do say no, i would ask them exactly that question you asked us - what am i supposed to do now? can you impress on them that whatever is going on with T, it is having a massively detrimental effect on the whole family, let alone the poor fella himself, adn deep down in your gut, you think it just isn't right and something is up. some sort of calm insistence and tell them you will make appointments with all the other doctors until someone gives you some help? anyway, that is what i would do. btw - am already daydreaming about you moving to bounds green where we will be chummy mcchums and the sun will always shine.

speaking of which - am i ever going to be warm again??? i started making a soup in our kitchen (which has no heating), simply to keep warm. this is mental.

btw - i sort of bunked off work this morning. can't decide whether i feel bad or not. madam has been a bit ill and has had some dreadful nights, so i warned my colleague last night that i might need to take her to the doctors, but on waking she seemed fine. so i did a white lie and said she did need to go to the doctors, so i didn't have to work. so i've lost the £60 i would have earned, but i feel so much better not working - ah, the relief. alas madam and i haven't had the most profitable or achieving day, but i have made a soup...

MomOrMum · 30/11/2010 14:46

Spot - One more thing re: the osteo...did you have either a really fast or really protracted birth? Because I've also heard that osteos link that to the mis-alignment, drainage problems that can lead to recurrent ear infections later on. Maybe they already talked to you about this....

spotofcheerfulness · 30/11/2010 14:58

That's interesting, Mom, had a vv quick labout - just a couple of hours really, so could be connected...
Sorry you too are in antibio hell, it has been a grim winter for illness. Out of interest, does your DS have all his other teeth now he's getting his big scary molars in? BEcause I think T might also be having some teeth issues but assumed that all the others would come in first.

WG sound advice on the doc, and i v much like your sunny vision, can well buy into it (esp as DP plays (or played) cricket in Crouch End so he would be onside for that too).

Don't feel bad about calling in sick, sounds like it was exactly the right thing to do. Mmm, soup...

Effe get back on that train right now. I am watching the forecast and it ain't purty...

spotofcheerfulness · 30/11/2010 15:00

labour, not labout.

traceface · 30/11/2010 15:05

hola.
Super quick hello from me as I have to get L from school. Spot when are you going to the gp? hope you get some action from them. Poor T.
MOM that's so interesting about the osteo stuff.
ZJ I'm having similar ishoos with P. She has suddenly turned into a wailing, stroppy madam, who cries if she doesn't get her own way. She seems to think naughty corner is hilarious too. She has been waking up several times a night, then when I go in she screams and clings to me and says "guggle" so I give her a cuddle then she absolutely won't go back in her cot, which sounds pathetic of me because she is nearly 2 and I'm 33, but she's so strong and pulls at my heart strings, so we're up for hours every night at the mo, and I know DH is thinking it's my fault for being too soft with her. He's right too. I mentioned it at work today and my friend said, "so she wakes up and gets loads of cuddles and attention then..." She has a point but she seems to be able to scream and paddy endlessly.
Grrrr. terrible twos?
Anyway must dash. Sorry to post about me. Back later I hope. Oh and ZJ I loved your proud mummy moment Smile

traceface · 30/11/2010 15:07

oh and I love that IKEA kitchen - I emailed my dad the link and asked if he could make something along those lines for my girls! Cheeky aren't I? Grin
And I'm up for Secret Santa. How do we get the ball rolling? Do we have to message Syb with our details or should we start a thread? Can't remember how we did it last year.

JollyBear · 30/11/2010 15:25

Hello everyone,

ZJ I have no idea on the book front unless you went for something seasonal, a Christmas Carol perhaps? Otherwise I'd go for something they have in Waterstones on the front 'popular' tables!

spot Burst into tears, seriously, no stiff upper lip, make sure they are under no illusions about how hard it is for all of you with these recurrent illnesses. Good luck.

Oh and re the dentist, I took her when I went and they had a quick look. The dentist said it is good to start them early to get into the swing of it.

Count me in the secret santa too, please.

Remember I mentioned my friends who hadn't been together very long and they had a surprise pregnancy? They had the 12wk scan and it looks like the baby has heart problems and perhaps DownSyndrome Sad. They are awaiting further tests but it isn't looking good, particularly with the heart. Any ideas of how to be a good support would be most welcome, and any prayers/white light.

EffiePerine · 30/11/2010 15:37

Trace: DS2 goes through phases of waking and wanting cuddles. I either leave him to yell (which can take ages - about half an hr which seems like forever), or bring him downstairs/in bed with us. Not ideal, as it means less chance of him sleeping in his cot. I tend to give in then get tough if it goes on for more than a night or two.

Spot: any luck with the GP?

Rubena · 30/11/2010 15:45

Spot - agree with Jolly. And I suspect it wouldn't take much acting to burst into tears. then go over his whole history and keep talking - GP's hate that as they've only got about 6 mins each appointment (I'm very good at it obviously) they will do whatever in the end just to get you to stop crying / cover their arse / out of their office Grin I dunno ask MrJJ - but seriously, this cannot go on any longer!
DS went to the dentist when he was 1 but tbh they just gave him a ride in the chair which he hated and counted his teeth - it was more to get him used to the clinicalness of it all I think. We were spose to go again a couple of weeks back but I keep having to cancel.
Thanks for asking I'm feeling much better but still hacking up green stuff (sorry) but ds had a shocking night as did dd actually. DS has been getting really congested at night and woke up last night very upset and struggling. I gave him Ibuprofen and he soon calmed down but took about an hour of him coming into our room every 10 mins from about 3am. Then dd kicked off and for some reason had awful wind which she hasn't had for a while and she wouldn't settle at all so I left her in our bed where she fell asleep propped up on pillows. They both then slept until about 8am luckily.
