HVs have been sent home due to weather. Phoned Gp who called back. He thinks it's from bath water getting in his ear. MB seems ok as normal, eating and filling nappies. Thinking about it now he has slept mire than usual today. I always remember these things when phone call is over! . Gp said to keep an eye on MB and if he stops eating/gets a temp to bring him in. So now I don't know whether to call back or not.

When I asked HI if any water might have got in his ear, he said he thinks it did. Which is annoying cos I specifically told him to make sure it didn't. Men always think they know better when they don't.

Had to send out for emergency supply of nappies. Realised that MB won't be in size 2 for much longer as he can't be that far off 13lbs which is the max weight for Size 2.

polly love the competitive spirit !!!!!

Cosmosis · 20/12/2010 17:33

Had artie weighted today and he's 13.14, so gone abit above the 25th centile line, which is good as last time he as a bit below.

SilverSky · 20/12/2010 18:24

Awesome coz!

New series of One Born Every Minute starts Christmas Eve at 8pm C4.

rollerbaby · 20/12/2010 20:49

Poor MB's little ear. Did't know you couldn't get them wet... poor thing.

Good news on weight Cossie!

Alps that is bloody funny. Not for him and those involved obviously...

We have had a goodish day. Nice lie in and baybee napped during dr visit (got cream for my nips and his mouth) and he basically behaved all day long which made me feel very capable and like I know what I'm doing (hhahahahahahha). Given that we (mr moo and I) both felt tres compis mentis we went out during his late afternoon nap and walked to the pub. 2 glasses of champers if you don't mind! Is that too much? (no such thing as far as champagne is concerned). Got home, MrM got on with cooking roast chicky and then I went up to do wind down, bath and feed babymoo half the 120mls I expressed today. So far so fabulous...

At this point all went tits up. screamed like a banshee. Wind I'm guessing was partly to blame. I think he took about 40 of the 60 ml I had in the bottle. Not a great success. At least I didn't waste it all. Pleese can I have top tips for introducing bottles?? I've got Dr Browns, NUK, Avent, Tomee Tippee... and a baby that wants the boob. How much do you think I should be giving? I've literally no idea what to do next. Try and different time? Or just keep plugging on at bedtime? I really dont want to put him off permanently and create a scene at bedtime every night...

PollyPoo · 20/12/2010 21:00

Moo maybe get MrMoo to give the bottle? Preferably with you out of the room so the BabyMoo doesn't feel he has a choice between boob and bottle? Soz if you've tried it already.

OkieCokie · 20/12/2010 21:42

Moo try bottle at different times of the day. Maybe bedtime he was too hungry or too sleepy for something new. I have it on good authority that for babies that insist only the boob will do then Playtex bottles are the biz as the teat is the most nipple like. I put cheggers on to these and she had success. I use Born Free Bottles which I find excellent for the anti wind/colic thing in (although a PITA to clean). I gave Peppa one expressed breast milk bottle per day and it is at is at 10.30pm and currently she is having about 110ml. All other feeds are currently on the boob. I plan to increase to 120ml in the next week or so as she is routinely fininshing the bottle. Our two are the same age but not the same weight so you may need to give a bit more.

I would also do what pol suggests and leave the room entireley and let Mr Moo do the feed as they can smell the boob milk apparently Confused. Glad you made it out for Champers though.

Silv their temperature is a good indicator of infection but if you are at all worried then give the quack a call back. Mothers instinct and all that! You know your baybee and know what is normal and what isn't.

I did first supermarket sweep today and all I seemed to come home with was four giant boxes of nappies and some posh pate and cranberry sauce from M&S. I ended up visiting 3 different supermarkets! It was fairly grim and it is only 20th Dec. Need to do the "big shop" still as I did not book a Christmas delivery slot when they were released in something like March. Plan to be there at 8.30am once I have dropped mini Oke at nursery as this afternoon was fairly horrific!

PollyPoo · 20/12/2010 21:48

Okes you may have the right idea with the shopping though - I have a delivery booked for Thursday but at the moment we are not sure if the van will make it down the lanes to our village. Fucking hope so - really do not fancy having to go out on my due date and trying to source a bloody turkey and a weeks worth of shopping!

CUNextTuesday · 20/12/2010 22:53

Okies Waitrose at Westfield had half a dozen people in it at 9.45 this morning. The whole place was deserted. So luxurious was it that I accidentally spent £180 Grin

CUNextTuesday · 20/12/2010 22:57

Tell you what though, Tesco's are so incompetent with their deliveries and substitutions that I would NEVER trust anything as important as the christmas food to them. Some memorable substitutions: Lemongrass = celery seeds; pudding rice = meringue nests. Last week they didn't turn up at all and the driver tried to make out he had called- I was sat in front of the bloody window the whole time and he would have chumphed the sodding security light on so I KNOW he was lying. A total disgrace.

PollyPoo · 20/12/2010 23:02

I hate Tescunts. Haven't had so many probs with Sainsburys and I really hope this isn't the week they start to fuck up. If they don't turn up at least we have all the freezer meals I have prepared for when the baby arrives. And I got the booze on last weeks shop. Got to get your priorities right. Grin

SilverSky · 21/12/2010 05:35

Moo I have been advised by several people that to start with tis best/reco'd for the mum to leave room and let someone else feed the bottle. Otherwise confusing for PFB.

Okie As you say instinct and shiz! I thought he was ok but for reassurance I took his temp and it's normal. I guess he just sleeps well laying on the sofa. Had to was bouncy chair cover cos rubbish Huggies can't do the job they are sposed to. Cover took two days to dry!

Left the heating on by accident and it's bloody boiling in our room. . There I was thinking the dripping I could hear was snow melting was cos it's deciding to bog off alas it's more likely to do with the bleeding greenhouse effect in our bedroom.

The weather is getting me down. Feel trapped in the house. Ackshalleee there is no "feel" about it. I bloody am. Typical as I can now drive/ride. Bastard snow.

Pls to say why it's a competition, least some peole think it is, when it comes to how quickly they returned to driving/exercising and shiz after a CS???

CurlyCasper · 21/12/2010 08:02

cunty hope you made a big fuss re tesco no show cause when that happened to me i got shopping for free and a few quid for my trouble. Exact same scenario with lying twat of a delivery bod.

Ever since we started baby swimming and were told to let baby's ears get wet we've not worried about this at bathtime. In fact she lies with her ears submerged on bottom of bath and wriggles around, with us washing and supervising rather than supporting. Hope your boy is better Silver.

How you going Pol? Any sign? X

SilverSky · 21/12/2010 08:21

Yo Casp! Quack said the water in the ears could be the culprit tho he didn't say not to get them wet IYSWIM.

I've been looking into activities to do with MB in the year such as a Mum and Baby group or summat as I need to get regular outings sorted or I am going to go crazy in this house. Tho course once snow clears I'll be relieving HI of his equine duties so that will be good.

We've had two killer nappies this morning! Luckily Pampers to the rescue. I've got a stack load of Huggies in the cupboard. Will give them to one of my NCT buds.

I have just caught the cat using the laundry bin as a scratch post. Little git. Think it's cos the other cat was using the proper scratch post and last night the older cat had pinned the younger one to the base of the scratch post. Bully!

I've written my Christmas Cards but those that need posting won't get there before the 25th. TBH as lomg as they get there at some point I am not gonna lose sleep over it.

Do you think it's too cold to take MB out in the pram upto th post office (30mins there and back)?

Cosmosis · 21/12/2010 08:49

I recommend Gymboree if there is one near you, also does your NCT run a bumps and babies group?

I haven't written cards yet, I am planning to use weather as excuse for them being late Wink I think it must be having an effect though cos we've got no friends this year only got about 5 cars so far.

As long as MB is wrapped up nice and toasty it will be fine, baybies exist in colder temps than this.

Cosmosis · 21/12/2010 09:04

Sorry that sounded a bit blunt, didn't meant to!

Also meant to say Artie has found a new sound, he now does a very good line in ear peircing squeals, most amusing!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 21/12/2010 09:22

Hey silv YANBU about boxing day. I too would be Sad to spend it alone and as lovely as MB is, he is undoubtedly hard work too over a long day. Any chance of some visitors?

Can anyone (Okie you seem to be an expert!) advise me on giving expressed milk for the first time? It is currently in the fridge - about 110ml. Missy has never had a bottle before. It is a Tommy Tippee one. How do we approach this? We will be warming it in hot water (no microwave) - how do you know when it is done? Tips v. welcome!

Also been having lots of problems with cramps and painful leg kicking after feeds, with just one huge dirty nappy per day. How to help with that?

SilverSky · 21/12/2010 09:23

Ditto. Years ago I'd send about 50. This year not even 15! Tho have about 40 thank you cards for MBs birth gifts. Go figure.

Should get up really..........

Cosmosis · 21/12/2010 09:25

get DH to do it, not you, seems easier for them, less confusing. RE temp, I think about room temp is about right, but tbh Artie doesn't care if it's straight from the fridge, he just wants milk NOW Grin

CUNextTuesday · 21/12/2010 09:33

switty I generally warm everything in a jug of boiling water and just keep agitating it every minute or so to distribute the heat. My gauge is that if a squirt a bit onto the back of my hand and I can feel it, it's too hot, Hom just squirts it straight into his mouth to test Grin

What is the issue with your pain - is it your cramps and Missy's leg kicks? If you are getting abdominal cramps, it is the oxytocin produced during your milk let down - with it being the same hormone as the one that causes contractions it can give you pseudo-contractions when you are feeding. Nothing to worry about. No prob with one dirty nappy a day - just means things are settling down, although it may well swing back the other way during growth spurts etc, when absorption of food can go up and down. As long as there is poo you are fine (although Rastus is known for going 3 or 4 days sometimes with no adverse effects)

PollyPoo · 21/12/2010 09:41

no news yet lovely. Midwife supposed to be visiting today to check BP again so I've had a shit nights sleep stressing about it, very helpful. Not sure MW will get here though, lanes looking v icy and TG staying home again. Mind you, if she does make it, it might shame TG into going to work! My iPhone 'what to expect' app has just informed me I am 2 days from due date. Eek! I think due date is 28 tho.

SilverSky · 21/12/2010 10:22

wits no family near by and HIs family will be visiting relatives miles away. I'll be on my own from late afternoon til late evening. Still dull tho and I don't want to impose and invite myself to others tho I will mention to as many peeps as poss! I will be going to stables so that will break things up.

Re expressed milk - I ran the bottle under warm tap
to take chill off and HI fed MB. MB was not sure what was being stuck in his gob but he gave it a go and stuffed his fat little chops. MB also gets cross and leg thrusty during a feed or towards end of feed and I think it's wind and pain followed by a poo. As soon as he starts this I burp him. Not sure if helps but does stop the leg thing.

okie will look into gymboree and I have the NCT newsletter downstairs so will pick something from there. Wish me luck!

AlpinePony · 21/12/2010 10:42

Jb is working boxing day night - really don't give a fuck either way - but then neither of us are in excited raptures about the birth of Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Our Saviour. Obv. apart from the matze balls made from Christian babies blood.

AIBU in thinking that Joules have totally fucked me over? In the summer they got me addicted to their gorgeous, hard-wearing, non-cutsey baby clothes - yesterday they told me they were having a sale - absolute fucking gumph! Angry

Managed to get MIL on plane yesterday although she didn't get home until 3:10am this morning, but I had her at the front of the queue to check in and waved her off through security. Got chatting to a German speaking woman in the queue (am not fluent in German) but seems she'd spent the night sleeping on an airport bench (she was in her 60s) and then been charged 53 euros for the privilege of changing her ticket to this evening. Quite technologically savvy though - she had her own laptop! ShockWink

silv Squirt a bit on the inside of your wrist, if it's as hot as you'd drink coffee it's too hot. Anything between "good and warm" and ice-cube seems to go down. It's not an exact science so don't let yourself get in a tizz about it all or you'll become someone who takes the temperature of the bath water for the next 12 years.

Just been reading t'other thread - interesting to see such a totally different approach to food/alcohol than the current FESHes.

Jesus Christ my child has gone to sleep on his back!!! Usually when he rolls over from his front we are up and down the stairs turning him back over because he gets himself into a right two-and-eight. But seemingly not today. Huzzah!

SilverSky · 21/12/2010 11:58

MBs ear seems to be clearing up. Whoopee!'

In nag news: sharer not been in contact so assume still poorly. Reckon her hubs has told her she either has to give up or return in New Year as looking after nag may interfere with his Xmas. Have no proof just my wild conclusions!!! Don't know whether to text or leave to her to contact. If I contact they may think I am just trying to get her to come back but for all I know she could be seriously ill.

alp not been on other fred for ages! Are they bucking the DHB trend for eating all banned food regardless whilst diffed?
