He can cossie, it's his new trick - rolling across the room with lightening speed! Shock I didn't think of that d'oh. I just assumed I was going to kill my baybee by letting him sleep on his front.

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 30/11/2010 14:47

clever boy!

seeing as he can roll, you can't really stop him can you? I think you're still supposed to put them down on their back though.

OkieCokie · 30/11/2010 15:39

Mini Cokie loved to sleep on his front as soon as he learned to roll. I thought I had lost him once as I niped out of the room and returned and he had gone but he had rolled under the cot Grin

AlpinePony · 30/11/2010 16:12

Oh how RUDE! I've just taken the car in for its MOT and winter tyres and I broke down on the way with proper smoke pouring out of the bonnet! ShockAngry I diagnosed it as worn down to a slither of a thread fan-belt and managed to get it re-started and do the last 5 miles with virtually no steering or accelerator. How fucking rude! Was in such a tizzy I forgot the remote for the underground parking and have now left the replacement in the "no parking" place across the road. Jb is saying it'll get locked in. AIBU for saying "so?" Am I bovvered? Hmm

*May or may not have something to do with the mechanic suggesting on 29th December last year that I needed a new fan belt... Blush

haha okie, that's brilliant!

my baybee has always slept on his tummy and he is Still Alive fankoovermuch

CUNextTuesday · 30/11/2010 16:40

although now he rolls onto his back Grin contrary child

rollerbaby · 30/11/2010 17:55

cunty you are a love for offer of clothes. GrannyMoo has been out yesterday and bought most of Muvvercare for us, so now BabyMoo has clothes which will probably last him until university. But fank-you. xxx

BabyMoo sleeps on his side ALOT and even when in bed with me, which is apparently highly illegal. I am also considering the addition of a formula feed at bedtime tonight to help a) keep him asleep and fed for longer and b) give my boobs a rest. Am I bad muther? reggie I have read somewhere that Aptimil is good and fairly light on their tummies. Coincidentally I bought this stuff from Mothercare. Have also got premixed Cow and Gate which I gave him the other day in a fit of desperation - he seemed to quite like it :)

CurlyCasper · 30/11/2010 18:24

just breaching quick lurk to second Aptamil formula.

CUNextTuesday · 30/11/2010 18:37

Moo Rastus has had a (Aptamil) bottle at bedtime since a couple of weeks old, not sure it worked for keeping him asleep longer but it certainly gave my boobs a lovely well-earned rest and gives Hom an opportunity to do a feed so he feels like he's done some bonding in the short time between him coming in from work and the kid going to bed. I boob the 11pm feed so we can snuggle under the covers as I'm ready for bed. So I recommend, for what it's worth.

In addition the single cartons work well and are good value for money cos you are only having the one feed a day so you don't have to bugger about with all the measuring and shiz

rollerbaby · 30/11/2010 19:29

So if you are making up formula, it says on the packet to use freshly boiled water which has cooled for 30 mins. WTF? How do I know when he will wake up and therefore when to boil fucking kettle? This is madness. I thought a microwave came into it??? Please advise experts.

Cunty I'm gonna do the single cartons as well - handy little things.

AlpinePony · 30/11/2010 19:37

honey Here in NL the instructions with my milk powder say to put tap water in the bottle. Add the powder, swirl, microwave. I've had a myriad of mn'ers tell me I'll kill my baybee but he's still alive. Max shelf-life this way of 60 mins. Or, you could use the ready made stuff and microwave it.

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 30/11/2010 20:14

I use the ready made stuff and stick it in a jug of boiling water for 5 mins

CluckyKate · 30/11/2010 20:36

Call me slovenly Honey but I did wot Alps said only I used boiled water & filled up 5-6 bottles every morning which was usually enough to keep us going for the day.

Another vote for Aptimil - DD liked it so didn't bother trying any of the others but suspect they're all pretty similar Reggie

OkieCokie · 30/11/2010 21:04

I advise if only doing 1 feed per day then you may as well use the ready made cartons as once carton of powder is open you are supposed to bin it after after it has been open a month and I doubt you would get through it if only doing 1 formula feed per day. FWIW I did as Clucky did and filled bottles with boiled water and used it within 24 hrs. I think what they are saying about allowing water to cool for 30 minutes is to ensure you don't wang in the powder to boiled water (which can break down the formula and makes it shit) and then feed it immediately to your baybee when it is too hot non?

I used Aptamil before we knew we had cow milk protein issues and now we have just about finished with Soya formula. Mini C is now drinking Cows Milk - this is a major milestone for us and I have had a year longer than most of making up bloody formula!

SilverSky · 30/11/2010 21:14

Not that I know shit about formula but I have heard on good authority that Aptimil iz da bizniz.

Second major milestone today - MB smiled at me! Honest! In response to me smiling like a manic loon about 2 inches from his chops.

alps pmsl at asshat.

In tit news - think Me and MB may have thrush so calling the gp tmw
for an emergency appt for Daktarin and shiz. Pls to not have painful boobs/feeds not no more. I thank thee.

CurlyCasper · 30/11/2010 21:30

late baby bedtime in this house tonight! We've had a good old teething tantrum every two hours or so, and us girls were awake every hour last night Sad

honey You are definitely best of with cartons for single daily feeds. They can be served at room temperature (so just store in a cupboard) and you can use, say, half and store the rest in the fridge for 24 hours, using the second half the next day (or if less than half left, mix with some from the next carton). You can just stand bottle in hot water to warm up.

With the powder, Squeaks gives me time to make the first bottle of the day these days. When her sleep is disturbed, she howls, but when she's waking up naturally in the morning, it's a slower process. At the first gurgle (or at 6.30 ish if I wake up before hearing her) I run and pop the kettle on. Then I go back to bed. When she's fully with it, I lift her into my bed and leave her to gurgle at SFF, or her toys in his absence, while I go and make the milk. If it's been 30 minutes, great. If not, I mixed about an ounce of cooled boiled water with the boiling water before adding powder (and Gaviscon in our case). While it's cooling, I change her nappy and have a quick play. She's used to waiting a wee while now.

If going out I make several bottles in advance. If at home, I usually make the next bottle an hour or so before I think she'll need it, so it's there and there is no panic.

Ok, so that was probably a bit too detailed, but it's not a nightmare once you settle into your own routine.

Also, Squeaker prefers the cartons - pretty much always guzzles the lot.

Lovely to hear from fanny. I am deeply Envy of your heat. I am pretty miserable when it's cold and have had enough already. Sorry about MIL troubles. (same, in a different way, to silver).

Anyone know if my breast are likely to shrink any more? I stopped feeding months ago but still have tiny milk presence. WTF? I should buy new undies, but cannot afford to repeat such an exercise too soon. Just got my first SMP only pay Sad

CUNextTuesday · 30/11/2010 21:51

Hearing you casp although I have till 10th Jan on full pay, I'm already recalculating and will probably go back to work in March instead of April, depending on the nursery availability. I can be on SMP from 10th till the end of Jan, then take all of February off with a combo of annual leave and bank holiday entitlement, then go back 1st March.

AlpinePony · 01/12/2010 05:08

Wrt to "boiling water" et al - the mn mafia say you MUST add the formula at 70 degrees to kill any bacteria. Now, I'm not a microbiologist but I do remember from my uni/A-level days that "most" bacteria is rendered "inert" at around 40 degrees - furthermore as bacteria doubles every 20 minutes surely it's better to just make it and feed it rather than fucking around with ready made bottles all day. Why are "The Dutch" recommending the method they do if it's to kill babies? Confused I know they've had problems in China, but thankfully we live in Western Europe. Have heard nothing but good about Aptamil btw. I sometimes use cartons if I'm out and about and I can't be doing with carrying a bottle of boiled water and a tub of powder. But, because they don't make the readymade in his brand I try not to use it to often so as not to mix & match which can apparently cause poop issues - poop issues obv. not the end of the world though.

curly I have NO idea what your boobs are doing! Wink Mine gave up the milk-ghost months ago - you could hit 'em with a sledgehammer and not get a drop. They only swelled up once in the hospital and not really during pregnancy (other than general weight gain, not boob-specific) so can't help you there.

honey How's it going with Dr. Brown?

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 01/12/2010 05:10

PS Personally I think the reason the "guidelines" are as they are is to stop people only getting half a bottle down and then leaving it out for 6 hours. None of us are that skint we need to re-cycle milk! Yes it's more expensive than breastmilk but it's only costing us a tenner a week - not breadline stuff!

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 01/12/2010 08:21

If trying cartons, I would suggest that try at room temp to see if that's acceptable to baybee then you don't need to faff about with heating. Artie seems to care not a jot what temp the milk is when he has ebm, just as long as he gets the milk!

wrt to it making baybees sleep longer though, beware this ain't necessarily the case, I know plenty of ff baybees who sleep as badly as bf ones, I think it's a bit of a myth and if your baybee sleeps well it sleeps well whatever its fed with. Can totally understand wanting to give the boobies a break though!

Artie often sleeps on his side, or on his chest on my chest. I haz not killed him yet.

AlpinePony · 01/12/2010 08:37

Agree with Cossie - Bear will drink his milk at any temp.

rollerbaby · 01/12/2010 08:56

Well you were right, no extra sleep! Fed 6-7 (EBM and boob), 10pm (FF), 1am, 3am and on/off from 5. Top up around 8ish. Bloody knackered today. Also boobs like rocks squirting everywhere in night so bit uncomfortable. Not sure what to do now. Didn't express last feed as was too tired...

Helpfully I left a packet of sanitary towels on my stone worktop on bathroom. The mothercare logo has now transferred itself onto my stone surface. Jolly good.

SilverSky · 01/12/2010 09:07

moo I was up at 11.30 for an hour feeding and still awake at 2.30 cos he wouldn't settle. Put back on boob as thought still hungry and he fed for 15 mins and fell asleep. Woke again at 5 fed again for an hour but went back to sleep right away. Woke again at 7 but we let him whinge and he went back to sleep til 830 (bad parenting). He is feeding again now which bloody hurts!!!

Got to call GP in a mo for appt to get thrush drucks.

Own up - who uses a dummy?

SilverSky · 01/12/2010 09:09

moo total ass about the MC logo!!

AlpinePony · 01/12/2010 09:11

silv Yes, wouldn't be without a dummy. Current "guidelines" say Yes as they can help prevent against SIDS/polio/growing up to be Noel Edmonds. However, I'm sure posho NCT people would sneer! Wink Most amusing at night as we can hear them being launched from the cot as small missiles in the direction of the dog!

honey It will all settle honestly, the first 3 weeks are the roughest I think. Then, like silver yesterday - you realise you are coping. Then at 6 weeks you turn a big corner.
