Crossed posts Trib.

JonahB · 23/09/2005 19:13

oh g-d, I'm losing the ability to use my pc! SORRY!!!!

charleypops · 23/09/2005 19:42

Trib - In my extensive sling/carrier research (which I decided not to bore you all with this time lol) I did come across one little mention on a review site about the Active being recalled, but there was nothing on the Baby Bjorn website about it and surely, these retailers wouldn't dare sell something that could be so potentially dangerous would they so do you think they've been amended?? I will call Kiddicare though and send an email about it to BB now you've mentioned it. Still have my beautiful Ellaroo wrap languishing in a drawer somewhere - so complicated I just can't face putting it on - it's about 3 times the length of me!
Well done on Toby's long nap! I was sooo tired today, I actually managed to have a nap with ds a couple of hours ago - he fell asleep on my chest on the bed - dummy in (oops) we must've had nearly an hour - I feel so much better for it. I think it's the first time I've actually managed to sleep in the day since having him. I definitely recommend an afternoon nap if you're able! Ha Ha about your mum and her squatting advice! Sort of thing I do when out dog walking ...
So sorry to hear about the little girl

What I want to know is - how do you go clothes shopping with a baby - I mean, what do you do with them when you're in the changing cubicle/room? Do you think it's possible to do this if you're just using a sling?

After Lua posted that about rolling from front to back being the hardest, I tried him again - and he did it again! (wailing a bit because he wasn't in the mood, poor thing) He's still not quite rolled over from being on his back yet though - weird

Hmm - car seats - going to try ds's Matrix in the upright position again I think before I make dp buy a new one - it's supposed to last 'til 18 months I think.

tribpot · 23/09/2005 20:00

Charley, will attempt to find link to the thing about the BB Active being recalled, I'm sure I found it on their website cos I was looking for the instructions on how to work the damn thing. Basically they've replaced the central back fastener thingy with another one. So if you buy from Kiddicare, it should be up to scratch, but one on eBay might not be if the seller didn't realise the model had been recalled.

My lovely Tricot Slen fabric sling is simliarly languishing in its box; we tried it when Toby was tiny and he was alright with it, but the weather was SO hot we couldn't use it, plus a flipping nightmare to put on. Will try again when he's big enough for the outward facing position, I think.

I think the Matrix is meant to last til 12 months lying down and 18 sitting up as you say, although god knows how. Toby strongly objects to having the seatbelt in the way of his feet already.

I'm totally in favour of the lift/disabled loo militancy. I was outraged when in Schiphol airport they told us we would have to dismantle Toby's pram and carry him on the bus to the plane, because the pram wouldn't fit through the revolving door. What would they have told a disabled person, "erm, just do your best to walk through cos the wheelchair won't fit?" HARRUMPH!

charleypops · 23/09/2005 20:11

HI Trib - I've just emailed Kiddicare and Baby Bjorn - had a look through the BB website and I can't find anything about the recall, so maybe it's all finished with. Hope so, I'm so excited about getting it - just had the dispatch details from Kiddicare, so it's on its' way! I was going to get the Bush Baby Coccon - more outdoorsy and very practical, but for once I decided to go for (what I think) is the better looking one!

charleypops · 23/09/2005 20:33

I've just had another look at the BB website and did find a page about the recall this time (not much of a link) - it shows you what the fixed ones look like, and says you can get them exchanged for free if you have a dodgy one.

mandymac · 23/09/2005 20:51

Evening All

Mrs W - Inside out clothes are supposed to be good luck . Don't miss my 20's, spent them going out with F**kwits (met DH not long before I turned 30 thank goodness). Hope DS2 is ok after wrestling incident.

Tea - Your dd's poo commentary had both me and dh in stitches. What fun you will have telling him about that (in front of girlfriends) in years to come .

Bubb - Hope your mum has a great birthday cruise and fingers crossed for her results.

EYM - Shame about the hostess outfit .

Lynny - Poor you and gippy tum, I've just finished a course of them and both me and dd have been suffering the consequences (am drinking actimel every day which seems to help a bit). You are not alone with 'downstairs' problems, I'm still seeing the physio for bum related pelvic floor issues - damm I wish I'd done those exercises! .

Welshie - The anticipation of forthcoming vesuvian eruption must be terrible . Or will you be cheering?

Lua - Now you have the EBF sorted with the lovely Mam bottles why can't DH help out with a night feed? As I posted earlier - just tried them and they work, so have told DH that I'm delighted he can now do the odd 4am feed . I'm selling it to him as a chance to spend quality bonding time with dd .

Bero - Sounds like DS has discovered a good game with the rolling.

Coop - Hope dd2 is recovering from her bump.

Lippy - Re weaning - I will be looking to do this at about 5 months if poss as DD will be going to nursery in January. I too am afraid I will 'fade away' if not, as dd is a very hungry girl and despite copious choc & cake on top of 3 meals a day, I'm losing weight (I know this sounds like a good think, but I really don't suit the 'lolipop lady' look.

SFX - Know what you mean about late buses. Do you have black cabs round your way, as you can get in those with the buggy (have done this a few times when I needed to get dd home to feed in a hurry) I always get the driver to help me in and out with the buggy too .

Soz to those I haven't caught up with. DH needs 'puter now.

Nite Nite Juniesxxx

eastyorksmum · 23/09/2005 21:21

Evening junies hugsssss

Mandy great post sorry about your pelvis probs hunny i hanvt done any pelvic exercises realy should at some point, but my back aches quite alot if i bend over for too long.

Charley baby carrier sounds great i had a look at the link, i just know if i would feel safe carrying baby in one just me been over cautious though, i did say i would have a sling, and i know it would be easier for me on and off buses, will have to think again maybe.

Bubs i did mean to say i hope your mum is ok, and lovely that she is going on a cruise.

trip i did laugh the pee in the park, mums aye.

Jonah im with you its so hard to get round the shops the isles are so small, and their should be more lifts and deffantely wider toilets.

William has been the same tonite as last nite grr getting to be a pattern he fals asleep in my arms and then as soon as i put him down he wakes up.
Hes too big for his carrycot now im having to get him to sleep in his pram its no good ill have to buy a travel cot, hes used to go to sleep and stay asleep lately its your not leaving me its so tiring. has anybody got any suggestions?

nite mums sleep well xxxxxxxxx

redheadmum · 23/09/2005 21:36

esm - do you put down when ds is firmly asleep? I had to go to a sleep clinic for dd and they advised putting down the baby when slightly awake, that way when they wake in the night they are in the same environment that they went to sleep in and so can settle again.

Have to say that ds is going down firmly asleep, but am trying to rouse him slightly from now on to see if I can not get into the same pickle as before. Hmm...

charley - shopping with a sling - how are you going to try the clothes on??! I thought about it recently and realised I couldn't logistically do it. I just take the pram into the changing area with me, if they can fit in the cubicle great, otherwise it's only a curtain between you and the pram.

Hello all
I am just back from a meal out!!! I say I am just back but actually have been back a little while as got recalled to feed poor dd2 who didn't settle at all. Poor dh has been rocking and jigging her since 8.30pm. She has been back to sleep but not settled well. He finally admitted defeat and called me at the restaurant. I heard dd2 crying down the phone and had to leave STRAIGHT AWAY. My boobs started throbbing and I missed out on my Calypso coffee. Ran inside taking my top of in the hall way and straight to feed dd who drank for England and is now zonked in her cot. I felt like the worst Mummy ever. Have decided to pull my finger out and try some different bottle teats and to definately take her with me on Tues when I have another leaving meal to go to this time in Limassol. I always was taking her to this one, but this evening has reinforced the idea. To be fair I have had a lovely evening out with 10 ladies. Great fun.
EYM - at Cruse. Glad you are doing ok though.
Lynny - Hope the Homestart thing goes well
Red- Hello
Car seats - Oooh not even thought about the next one. DD moved from the infant carrier (safest way to travel) when she was 10 months old and reached the minimum weight (she is a 50 centile girl). DD2 is was the same size at 11 weeks as dd1 was at 17 so can see we will have to move her sooner. Her legs already hang over the end, but this is better than facing them forward too soon apparently as broken legs mend quicker than broken necks . We have a maxi cosi priori xp for dd1 and I have to say I have been very pleased with it. It has an extra seat belt tightener which makes it very solid and it is easy to use and has a recline etc. I would very happily get another one of those as it was certainly one of the better ones in crash tests when we bought it. The only thing that might change my mind is that one of our cars will have the isofix option installed so we may invest in one of these, but then I feel dd2 should have a new isofix seat too and it gets very expensive so I don't know. Am putting that one off.
I have decided I am going to treat myself to the individual weaning ice cube things from Blooming Marvellous when weaning this time. I am not looking forward to it and know these will make the job easier rather than freezing stuff and then getting it out to put in bags to reuse the trays etc. Doesn't sound like much of a problem but it did my head in!
I ahve also ordered an expensive (certainly for me) but not extortionate (sp? too tired) pair of winter boots. This is my treat. I really hope they fit.
Berolina - Your trip will be great. Try not to worry and enjoy it. Don't be worried about menengitis. Ds will certainly not be at any more risk in the UK than he is in Germany esp as it is a standard vaccs here IYSWIM. Some parents choose not to vax at all remember and can't wrap their babies in cotton wool. Take care.
Have to say (very quietly) that we have had no probs with dd's today. I did take dd2 off to bed with me for an hour this afternoon and dh did take dd1 out shopping for half an hour but even so dd1 has been full of love and kisses. So lovely! Not saying we have a breakthrough, but it is lovely to have a day with no problems.
Also cofession time . DD1 went to a b'day party yesterday in a soft play place. DH took her which meant a lovely break for me and dd2. Anyway at some point during the event dd1 had an accident. Problem is dh only noticed when he picked her up and she was wet. He discretely took her off to change knickers etc wondering wtf to do. The accident could have been anywhere in this place. He decided to keep quiet. I was a bit shocked but thought about it and realised I would have done the same thing . Her wee is very clear anyway as she drinks alot and I told my mum and she reckoned a little toddler wee was OK and it must happen alot. What do you think? Are we the worst parents in the world? We have been feeling quite guilty since, but the moment has passed now so we can't go back and do anything. I felt for DH actually as he really didn't know what to do. Right, I must go to bed. Hope to get more sleep tonight.
Byeee

Cooperoo · 23/09/2005 22:00

Trying on clothes while shopping with a baby is a PITA. Some places have disabled cubicles. Mostly I go to the end cubicle and park the buggy outside and leave the curtain open. At least this is what I used to do in the UK. I Cyprus I hardly shop and when I do I take DH with me or use the internet and try stuff on at home. DH sits in the car with the dd's so you can tell it is not a fun relaxing experience. It only happens if I am desperate for something like feeding bras etc.

charleypops · 23/09/2005 22:03

Hi Coop - my goodness, I think we're going to have to start a "bad mummies" group! Glad you enjoyed most of the evening! What's all this stuff about ice cubes? I don't understand - is it where you put mush you make in the blender for the baby? Do you have to measure it out etc? What are your boots like? Glad you've had a better day with your dds. Don't lose sleep over the accident btw - I'm sure they're more than used to it!

Hi RHM - it's lovely to see you back!
Re shopping, I was only thinking of "bottoms" really at the moment - I have ONE pair of jeans that fit me at the moment and they're my maternity ones . I can't believe how skinny I used to be! I was always moaning that size 6s were too large!! Do you think I'd be able to try bottoms on with a sling? Oh sod it, I'll order them through Ebay, they're half the price anyway. I only like the cut of expensive ones unfortunately, but they last me years.

I do fancy going girlie clothes shopping soon - I may invite a girl from my ante-natal group to come with me - her pram's quite large though, do you think it would be a nightmare, getting down the aisles etc, would it be better for me to go alone?

Where did you find the sleep clinic? If I could get proper sleeps (6 hours would do I suppose) then my life, and that of those around me, would be a million times better!

EYM - When I could be arsed doing the Ellaroo wrap/sling thing it was great - ds felt very secure and was very happy and snug, I felt very mobile and emancipated, so I would always say "Go for it" if you're considering getting a sling/carrier.

Cooperoo · 23/09/2005 22:07

Charley - That is the way to shop for clothes, take another mum with you, then you can take it in turns. In the UK I used my Wilkinet carrier if I was not buying clothes and it was great (still too hot here for it). Had an amazingly successful shopping trip in York like this when dd1 was 3 months old and felt like I could take on the world!

Cooperoo · 23/09/2005 22:11

P.S. You must be teeny!!
The ice cubes trays are a good size to freeze pureed food stuff. Then you defrost one or more cubes depending on your babies appetite. I loved the cooking of stuff for dd1 but hated the washing up!! Loads of it so did massive cook ups and froze loads of stuff all at once. These 'ridiculously expensive for what they are' ones on the website are little individual ice cube size pots on a tray.

MrsWednesday · 23/09/2005 22:28

Coop, I do the same - use a changing room that's at the end, put the pram in front of the curtain and get changed with the curtain open. After showing my bits during birth I'm not as shy as I used to be

Tea, loved the running commentary on DS's poo. Bless em they are fascinated by poo and bums aren't they? DS1 announced loudly and proudly in Morrisons today 'I've just pumped mummy' much to my shame (and amusement).

Coop, you are allowed to have some time off from being a mummy, it was just bad luck that DD2 needed a feed, no reflection of your mothering abilities at all.

Another one who uses the disabled toilets without a hint of shame. Can't think of any other option (I really don't fancy squatting down in the park with DS1 next to me shouting 'are you doing a wee mummy? Where's your willy mummy?' Children's voices are so clear aren't they?

Lynny, I've also read that taking pro-biotics (either the drinks or tablets) helps to offset the side-effects of anti-biotics. Hope you feel better soon, sorry the dentists trip was such an ordeal.

I've been quite happily using my Baby Bjorn for DS2, didn't realise there were any problems with it. He seems to like it and falls asleep in it quite happily, and I think he likes being able to have a good look around (I put him in facing forwards).

Blimey Mandymac, still losing weight? I wish I was. The scales are going upwards unfortunately.

Lua, at your DH. Unless you spell it out to them they just don't understand what you might need...well mine doesn't anyway. When I starting ranting about how exhausted I was he said 'I didn't realise you were so tired'. What does he expect after nearly a year's worth of broken sleep? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Hope he helps out a bit tonight, you sound really tired and fed up.

Can't believe how many babies are rolling. DS2 isn't yet, he just can't get all the way over. Do you think he should be spending more time lying on the floor? I daren't leave him on his activity gym for long because DS1 likes lying on him.

Charleypops, could you ask your health visitor about sleep clinics? They should know of something local (hopefully).

Off to bed now - busy weekend in the Wednesday household as my little sister is getting married on Sunday. It's so exciting

charleypops · 23/09/2005 22:53

I'll look out for those Coop, think I've still got a catalogue somewhere - if you think they're easier to use, then I must have them!

End cubicle sounds like a good idea.

MrsW - I will ask my HV about sleep clinics, you never know.
Have a fab wedding if you don't get chance to log on before!

sfxmum · 23/09/2005 23:49

evening ladies
dd been asleep since 8.15 after a pretty good day. since then i have been sitting in front of the tv with a magazine in hand but not really paying attention to any.

lynny - know what you mean about LD services. have worked inthe field for nearly 15yrs and can count on one hand the good medical professionals i have met. there was a wonderful dentist, richard at a clinic in Hanwel london and a lady dental surgeon at st thomas also in london. you know the sort that actually talk to the person and take them into account. hope you have better luck soon. i usually write letters both of complaint and praise after each experience.

coop- got those cubes on order too a few people have told me how practical they are.

got dd pictures sorted out will post link in the morning - you can see the dark circles under my tired eyes.

night all

Cooperoo · 24/09/2005 07:37

Well dd2 was up every HOUR last night . I thought she would settle well after having such a good feed but no. So that coupled with spending too much time on here instead of going to bed makes me v tired today. She has begun biting me towards the end of a feed too and so I am a bit concerned she may be teething already. She ended up in bed with us at 3am which did make life easier and was put back in her cot at 6am when dh got up (to go training weird man ). By the time I got up at 7, to the cries of wee wee from dd1, dd2 had turned herself completely around in her cot so her head was the other end . I had heard her moving around but did have a little chuckle when I saw her. She has been so smiley the last few days it is lovely. DH has taken dd1 to storytime for an hour and dd2 is asleep so I am catching up on here (again - addict??? moi?????).
The boots I have ordered are here , the brown ones. The buckle can come off too and those of you who saw my attractive knees in the wellies (lol) from Next will know why I have splashed out and got these boots that are calf fitted.
It is raining here . How lovely!!!!
Even better I got the washing in 10 mins ago. Hoorah! Well off to do some jobs while I have this peace and time in the house. Have good days all.

eastyorksmum · 24/09/2005 09:20

Nice boots Coop - I quite fancy those myself. Sorry you were up so much last night - flippin' babies ay?
Charley -I'll do anything to go clothes shopping - have got a system going. Go round and grab as much as possible in one go and give the extra ones to the assistant, then baby come out of the sling/buggy and goes on the floor on a little play mat I take with me everywhere. He has a kick and I have a try on, then off to the caf for a big cup of tea and some cake and a bf for him - everybody's happy.

Afternoon all,

Haven't had time to catch up properly yet as I've been busy buying socks.Went a bit overboard and bought 12 pairs-ha ha!!
Ds had loads of socks but he's only just started to wear them because of the plaster...and they're all too small. Also bought him some books and a teething ring.

Love the new pics KVG,Lynny and EYM-lovely.
Will catch up tomorrow as we've got company again tonight and Ds will be sleeping in his cot for the first time! Hope everyone's well.

JonahB · 24/09/2005 18:07

Hi All,

Charley, the couple of times I?ve been clothes shopping while with DS, I?ve used his pram. I wheel him into the entrance of the cubicle and either leave the curtain open or close it round the buggy. I know people may see in, but hey, I have no pride left after giving birth .

Lynny, sorry to hear the dentist wasn?t a great success.

Coop, don?t feel bad ? you are certainly not a bad mother for going out for the evening. I always see events like that as part of the ?learning curve? of babies. If this gives you the impetus to try a few other teats so you can go out in the future, it?s not such a bad thing and certainly no harm was done. I?ve been out for 3 evenings so far and felt SO guilty each time, but my DH (bless him) has been really encouraging and saying that if I get a few nights out, it will make me calmer, more relaxed, and more able to give DS 100% in the daytime. Much more importantly?oooohh new boots!!!! How exciting!!!!!! Had a quick look ? they are lovely.

Mrs Wed, lol at your DS?s announcement. Does he really ask where your willy is?? Bless him to bits!!! Oh, and I wish you all the best for your sister?s wedding. Hope you have a lovely day/evening out.

It's all calm in the Jonah house. DS and DH are having a bath. We've been to see DH's parents, who've just moved closer to us, although still dont intend to babysit . Ah well. Have a good evening all....

Cooperoo · 24/09/2005 19:01

Hi all
Thanks for the posts. Glad you approve of the boots. I will let you know when they arrive and perhaps post another pic of my knees lol!
Glad you had fun shopping Bubb. Prob too late now but the best ever socks are triple roll ones from Gap. They just do not fall off!!!
Welshie -I am impressed by your dedication. I mostly hate shopping.
Off to have a look at the new photos.
Mrs W - Have a wonderful wedding. How exciting! I love weddings. They always make me cry, as do new babies now. Aww!
I am off to make a hot drink and to enjoy X Factor (on our one channel - Casualty is on at the moment). DH has his triathalon tomorrow so will be up and out early so I am determined to be ready for bed straight after X Factor. I will not get sucked into MN tonight lol.
Bye for now.
