Lua - I had the same night as you. I knew it was going to be bad when I had fed dd2 three times and could still hear the washing machine going from when I put it on when we went to bed. It wasn't even every two hours, more like 45 mins for a while, however after her bump to the head part of me is glad she wasn't sleeping too well. She probably had a headache . She is fine today though and sleeping well at the moment lol. I am v tired though. This has felt like a long week.
Kat - Weaning, I haven't given it a thought yet. I don't think I have quite realised that dd2 is as old as she is. I still think of her as this newborn. I know the advice has changed but I weaned dd1 at 17 weeks and will dd2 if I think she needs it.
Mrs W - THANK YOU for your post. Made me and my family feel human again. Glad my dd is not the only sibling attacking the baby! I will try the b-milk trick. It works really well on nappy rash too you know! Eye is a tiny bit gunky today (had just been watery before) Doc has said to just keep it clean.
Lua - DD has no room yet to move her too. Have to get my visitors out of the way first so might move her in Nov. We have no central heating though so might just keep her in with us as that is one less room to heat.
SFX - It is a phase, it is a phase, it is a phase! Totally agree with you about this board by the way. wOuld be lost with out it. There is always one of us who has the time for some words of support.
Tea - THANK YOU for your honest post too. LOL at ds and his poo. I know that running commentary feeling. We are still in the early stages so it is me doing the round of applause at the moment!
Bubb - You were right about me only having one channel, BFBS1. It shows all the stuff recorded from the UK but if you don't like what is on there is no alternative.
Hope your Mum enjoys her trip!
EYM - Lol at your Ann Summers exploits and in a sick way I am kind of glad that William still offers you challenges even though you have three older boys. Sorry but it is reassuring for me . Hope you understand what I mean. Have you heard from Cruse yet?
Jonah - WOW about your friend!
Welshie - Lol at your bf exploits in London on the other thread. I can see it now. Still no poo either. Boy will you know about it when it happens
Lynny - Hope you are feeling better soon and they get you better asap.
Have to go baby crying.

oh, poor you Coop! and you have to deal with both DDs! I hope you can find sometime this weekend to take a break!

Lynny - hugs to you too!

Tea - DS was very pleased with the picture of his future bride! My DD also loves to give a play-by-play description of her bathroom experience... I never got the applause hehe, but Iam so thankful bathroom things are usually discussed in portuguese! Especially when she insists I givedetails of what I'm doing...

So, to take my mind off this ulgy day I am shopping for a new car seat for DS....Has anyone started yet?

Lua · 23/09/2005 12:46

oh, Katz, regarding weaning... DD started on rice cereal when she was 4 months. That is the standard advice in the US. I am going to try and hold out with ds to 6 months because DDs allergies and other growth problems. Have to say though, that sa couple more night of waking up and he is going into solids!

Hi everyone

So much chat happening, it's hard to keep up.

Weaning omg Forgotten I have to do that some time!! I can't believe some HV's are being so militant about the 6 month mark. I'd love to bf until 6 months exclusively, but no way will it happen, I'll be a shadow of my former self if I do!! I think I weaned dd1 at around 20 weeks or 4.5 months, something like that and it was me that was desperate, not her personally I am going to put it off for as long as possible because atm it is so easy having ready made, perfect temperature, organic food right there in my boobies. Having to start doing mush and ice cube trays ~sobs a bit~ fills me with dread. But if dd2 starts trying to chew her own arm off I guess I'll go for it i think the point is to do what you feel is right your your baby and you.

KVG, sounds like you feel rubbish. I'm having one of those days too, just tired mainly, plus it's raining. Stay on here, don't leave, even if temporarily.

I have to go I'm too exhausted to carry on typing.

bubbaloo · 23/09/2005 13:49

Tea-managed the baby clinic, park and shops this morning, and it still hasn't started raining yet.I took the rain cover and even a mac for me but didn't need them.
Ds is 13 weeks and weighed in at a hefty 15lb 5oz.I was chatting to another mum who asked how old he was-she thought he was about 6 months old.Left there and went into woolies to get him some socks, but ended up having a row with the sales assistant. She looked about 12,was sooooo un-helpfull and insisted they only do pink socks-rubbish!.

Lynny-Glad the jabs went ok and hope you get yourself better asap.

Jonha-congrats on the rolling. Now you'll need eyes on the back of your head-he he!!

Lua-ds is still in his original baby car seat, but I don't think he'll fit it for much longer. How on earth are they meant to stay in there for 9 months,I do not know.Ds can't even wear a jacket when he's in his(and that's without a hood!).We bought him a really cute body warmer in Gap that he's started to wear when we're out and about,as it's so much easier.

Just wondered if anyone knows at what age will the baby's be sitting up in their buggies? Also bought ds a winter jacket, but because of the huge hood at the back he wont be able to wear it lying flat, unless of course he has the hood on.Should be ideal for when he's sitting in the buggy though.

sfxmum · 23/09/2005 14:23

afternoon all

lua - take heart and take a rest, you know dh support should be a right not a priviledge. please take care of yourself.
good days will happen.

bubb- you brave soul! i am yet to brave shops on my own, apart from the local ones that is, honestly its the thought of late buses that gives me cold feeling in the pit of my stomach.

coop and lynny hang there. hugs

tea - very funny. my nephew, now 12 met my husband when he was potty training. he greeted him with 'hello i am dylan i can do poo watch' and proceeded to drag potty to centre of room and make big poo with massive grin on his face. we were all impressed and he has never been allowed to forget that one.

weaning - i listen to all and make my own decisions. i plan on breastfeeding for a long while yet but will start giving taste of baby rice when i feel she is ready. have already bought it. glad my HV is not as militant

kvg- just wanted to say that in spite of longing for this child whom i desperatly love i have had, and no doubt will have, days when i have felt overwhelmed and unable to cope and that really i am rubbish at it. truth is we have all this doubts and trouble because we care and set ourselves high standards. remember we have accumulated a great deal of tiredness from even before they were born. and that never makes thins easier.

bubbaloo · 23/09/2005 14:42

Sfx-lol at your nephew. We've probably got all this to come.
I'm not brave-the shops are just down the high road, about a 20 minute walk away. There's no way I'd attempt the main shopping centre on my own, mainly because a)There's no way I'm getting on a bus with the buggy and b)I won't be able to go to the loo on my own,as the buggy wouldn't fit in the cubicle-he he he! I suffer badly with IBS and spend half my like in the toliet-dh has nick named me Armitage Shanks.

Cooperoo · 23/09/2005 15:34

Just quickly Bubb, I always used the disabled toilets with dd1. Took the whole pushchair in with me. Never had any problems from anyone, after all what do they expect us to do, leave the whole thing plus child outside? Haven't taken them both shopping yet (and don't intend to on my own!)

welshmum · 23/09/2005 15:52

Lippy - I feel just like you about weaning - it's just so easy at the moment, lazy mothering rules - or it does in this house. Hope you feel less knackered soon.
Bubbs - I'm pretty militant when I'm out and about. I use the disabled loos, ask for use of lifts (even if they're just for shop staff) etc This morning I reorganised the bus so that me and my buggy and an elderly gent could sit down - couldn't believe this one young woman just sitting there while this old bloke gave his space up to me and then tried to get up some steps with his stick so he could sit down. Anyway sorted everyone out - got some funny looks but I really really don't care People need to be 'helped' towards more kindness and consideration Mums with buggys are generally more knackered than most so deserve any help going (am in a militant mood today)

bubbaloo · 23/09/2005 15:57

Cheers Coop-I always use the disabled toliet in Sainsburys and funnily enough I was in there earlier today.
The disabled toliets at the main shopping centre are on a radar key so I cant use them-unless I borrow my mum's key-he he!
Other cubicles elsewhere just aren't large enough to take the buggy in.Doesn't bother me too much as I've 2 very good chaffeurs-Dh and mum.

bubbaloo · 23/09/2005 15:58

Good for you,Welshie.

bubbaloo · 23/09/2005 16:09

Talking of buggies...I treated myself to a pair of earrings last week.I kept walking past the jewellers but decided I was going in to buy them. What a nightmare! I had to buzz to go through one door and you then have to buzz to go through the next door and into the shop, but you can't buzz the buzzer until the first door is shut.Virtually impossible when you've got limited space and a huge buggy. Finally managed to get in the shop and said to the chap"this shop isn't very buggy friendly,is it?" and he said "well,it's about time they made buggies smaller!" Had to laugh to myself really as he's quite right.Took me ages to get back out again,so it's a good job I don't buy earrings on a regular basis.

Also went in Peacocks today on the hunt for socks. The aisles were so narrow I asked the sales assistant to go and see if they had any that would fit ds(they didn't!).I told him if I were to go over to where the socks were,I'd probably knock over the display. He was very helpful and bought back some Thomas the tank engine socks...for a 4 year old!

charleypops · 23/09/2005 16:21

Afternoon ladies

Trib - Toby looks so smart with his side parting!

Katz - lovely pic!

Bubb - you friend's 6 weeker sounds like a monster child! All the best for your mum - never heard that one about not signing documents for 2 days - very sensible advice! a trip on the QE2 sounds fab! She must be soo excited - what a way to take your mind off stuff! pms at your sock hunting and expedition to Woolies, that girl sounds so thick!
I'm dying to get ds into the pushchair part of his buggy - think you're supposed to wait til they're at least 4 months old though don't you?

Coop - I have a playpen too for letting him have a wriggle around in - keeps the doggie at bay! Didn't realise they were contentious? Don't care anyway, better than getting snorted on by a slobbery lab Hope you get your dd situation sorted out soon - I'm sure in a few years you'll have loads of hilarious anecdotes for them though.. Whilst I was expressing, ds got a small eye infection, I put some boob milk in a couple of times (as I'd seen recommended somewhere), and it cleared up really quickly

I actually went to a m & b coffee thing yesterday Most unlike me! There was one baby boy there born on the same day as mine who weighs 16lbs!! While we were there he guzzled a full 8oz bottle There was another boy there - 9 weeks old, who weighs 14lb!! My ds looked very neat in comparison! On the whole it was ok - quite a mix of people

DS rolled from his front to his back today - does that count as rolling??

Lua/KVG/MrsW - I had a rough night too - Couldn't settle him last night through the 2am snufflings/waking, tried for 40 mins then gave in and fed him (good feed though!), but then couldn't get back to sleep until after his next feed at 5.30, then he woke at 7 so that was that...so I'm knacked again

Lippy - sorry you're not getting much sleep either from the sounds of it

Lynny - have you any idea when you might get your surgery?

MrsW - you and coop are putting me off having a 2nd Can ou hear ds2 before he cries? I'm thinking about putting ds in his own room, but not sure if it would work if I'm listening to the monitor all night - be just as bad as having him next to me lol

Jonah at your friend - hope everyone's ok!

KVG - Everyone I've met seems to have babies that sleep through, eat loads, weigh more etc etc too! It's sooo depressing when you're exhausted and worried - I even had a meltdown (most unlike me) at the docs the other day - I don't have anyone else to talk to lol. Anyway - I'm a worse mum than you!! we have a blackout blind - didn't want one, tried to get ds to sleep in natural daylight, but it just didn't really work out. It's not brilliant though - light seeps in around the edges and underneath. Could you get a sling to help with public transport? I've just ordered one of these but from Kiddicare because they're cheaper

Tea - I howled at your ds's poo exploits in the cafe

Welshie - you've come a long way since the days of you standing in simmering silence on public transport as a pg lady!

eastyorksmum · 23/09/2005 16:38

Afternoon mums hugssss

Welshie in dontblame ya i would be the same and talkng of buggys i finally got the (light) which i dont think any of them are buggy last nite, and hubby said well willliam looks abit small in there grrrrrrrr so asked my friends advice today as william will be 12 weeks next week, and she thoughtfully said well why dont buy a cosey muff like mine, we trye hers and william looked a lot better and safer, anyway she said i could borrow hers for our hols.

Weve had a lovely day despite the rain, and both babies were very good i took some pics will get hubby to download them later.

Lua try and get abreak hunny hugss we all had our share of bad nites.

redheadmum · 23/09/2005 16:51

hello all - it's been such a long time.....just not had a chance to get on the c omputer....so not even lurked!

Lynny - sorry yr not well still....virtual hug coming yr way

KVG - well, I've just read Friday's posts...but don't think youre a bad mum just cos of the weight of yr baby or whether they sleep through etc. Babies have a mind of their own, and what works one day won't the next. Plus lots of people lie!! When I had my first, we found out one woman had been lying about her baby's age so that she seemed more advanced for her age...it's just not worth getting to that point with it all. I ditched that mum and baby group (and I moved) when it got that c ompetitive.

Lua - am with you ds is feeding very erratically

weaning- I'm going with the lazy school too!!

weight - my ds 5kg at 6 weeks haven't weighed since (lazy school)

Lua · 23/09/2005 17:00

Charley- rolling from front to back is the hardest! He is a pro then! Congrats to Arlo!

Bubb- I need to go out and treat me to something nice too! Good for you!
So on the car seat front...I am considering either a mamas and papas pro-tec (the highest rated on which). But it doesn't look as luxuriously confy as a britax.... I wish this was the last I had to buy... But DD is so small that we can't move her to the next size quite yet....
I feel like the next size up us so much secure than the ones for tiny babies that I am actually happy DS will be moving soon.

mandymac · 23/09/2005 18:32

Very quick post to say:

Lua - Thank you, thank you, thank you - just tried dd on Mam bottle & teat and she took a bottle of EBM straight off - no fuss, not even much dribbling of the milk!!! Hurray Hurray Hurray. I'd spent a month trying every other day with the AVent bottles, and no joy at all! And wasting all that lovely (labour intensive) EBM each time.

Back later to catch up

tribpot · 23/09/2005 18:44

Very quick note all, been too tired to do more than just read through everyone else's posts (God there have been a lot of them).

Charley, super-impressed by Arlo's rolling performance. Weightwise, since he and Toby are the same age, I will announce that Toby weighs (or weighed on Wed) 13lb 6 1/2 ozs. He's just below the 50th centile, I like to think of this as just right, neither too much of a porker nor too much of a skinny-malinks (although obviously due respect to those of you with kids up in the 90th centile!)

Re: Baby Björn Active, do a little bit of research, it's been recalled by the manufacturer because of a problem with the bit that holds that back together. So buying from Kiddicare prob better than off eBay anyway. I still use mine (actually my cousin's) even though I shouldn't, but we don't go very far in it.

Our sleeping achievement today: got Toby to have his long nap by himself, albeit on our bed. Had I known in advance it was his long sleep I might have had a kip myself but ho hum.

tribpot · 23/09/2005 18:59

Oh, I forgot to say, when Toby was born my mum said "what do people do now about going to the loo when they're out on their own?" (since back in the day you just abandoned the baby in its pram wherever and whenever you felt like it). After one of her excellent long walks with him in the afternoon, she reported back to me that she had discovered you go into a quiet bit of the park and squat down for a pee where you are Just for future reference, I will inform her of the concept of disabled loos!

tribpot · 23/09/2005 19:07

Oh, also forgot to say (apols for just randomly chatting to myself now!):

Welshie's christening poem - I've just found out that the daughter of the sister of an ex-girlfriend of a friend of mine (i.e. not exactly the most direct connection in the world) has unexpectedly died aged just 2. Somehow that made me think of Welshie's poem, so I thought I would look up the text of it.

JonahB · 23/09/2005 19:10

Lua, lol at your ?is he hungry? remarks. Sorry its all proving difficult at the moment. I?m glad you mentioned car seats. I am sure my DS isn?t going to fit in his present one for much longer, but you are meant to be able to use them up to 18 months. I am not convinced I am going to last in ours past 6 months! When did all the rest of you swap your first DS/DD?s over to their stage 2?s?

Lynny ? hope the dentist went okay today.

Sfx-lol at your nephew

Bubb ? The 1st time I took DS out to the shops, I rang my friend in a panic to ask how you go to the toilet when you?re out. She laughed at me, but gave me the disabled toilets tip, which I now always use. Woe betide anyone who makes a passing comment . It?s the only way you can get to use the toilet while you?re out and about!! I'm also getting so much more beligerent about baby facilities. Its difficult enough to get out of the house, but i expect to have lifts, disabled toilets, pram room available for me. G-d help all those retailers out there

Right, Pizza Magic and beer are calling. Have a good weekend all....
