SFXM - do you really regularly write letters of complaint/praise? I often feel like it, but usually don't and when I can be motivated it's invariably to complain. Does it help you get anywhere?

Ok - someone's going to have to do a link for those cube things - I don't want to get the wrong ones

Coop - oh dear - hope you have a better night tonight! Love your boots - I'm thinking of finally getting some Uggs for this winter - they look so cosy, but were just too much of a cliche when they were first popular. Started a thread actually

EYM - I know used to know Hull very well - I'd go there for a treat with my friends when I was at school! Lived there for a few months too in one of the "Avenues" when I was a Northern Migrant.

Welshie - I had envisioned a scenario like the one you painted vis a vis the changing rooms/sling, didn't think it would work for some reason - obviously it does! Great! What playmat do you have?

Jonah - I have no dignity left either actually, so I'm probably not bothered about changing room etiquette - which makes logistics easier I suppose Why don't your in laws intend to do any babysitting??

Bubbs - you're so funny with your socks!!

KVG - glad to see you're back! it's a bit less than that at Kiddicare and if you did decide to buy it you could Ebay it afterwards. I reckon you'd probably get about £35 for it?

Do any of you own Ugg boots?????

eastyorksmum · 24/09/2005 20:41

lua · 24/09/2005 20:43

Hi everybody!
What a beautiful day we had here! this always improve my mood.

DS, unfortunately, still woke up a million times! However, hewaswilling to sleep in. So DHkept DD relatevely quiet and I slept until 10:30! yey!
I would perhaps still prefer one big piece of unbroken sleep... but we take what we get, right?

Charley - I usually do the last cubicle thing too, not very shy... But as DD start getting older, I decide to shop "american style".. buy thing that look nice, andreturn if needed after trying at home.

Mrs.W - enjoy the wedding!

Coop- Love your boots- I want one too!

Mandy - I'm glad the mam tip solved your problem . Dh has given bottles now, but in the middle of night my main priority is not to wake up DD. Don't want two kids crying! So the boob is the fastes quiet option.... The thing that drives mecrazy is DH's assumption that he only wakes when he is hungry, andtherefore is my job and he can go back to sleep... But after imade this point clear, hedid try to put ds back to sleep last night . It didn't work, but the effort is what counts

tribpot · 24/09/2005 21:38

lua, glad you have taken steps to enlighten your dh. Unfortunately I think we all have a tendency to think "well that's obvious to me, why doesn't he just do it without being asked?". It a law of nature, blokes do nothing domestic without prompting, I think they genuinely cannot see what needs doing, and in any case prefer not to see it in the hopes that someone else will do it before they have to. We of course buy into this by saying "oh it's easier if I just do it myself". This the worst technique ever to make a guy feel guilty, btw, in my experience NO guy feels guilty about getting out of domestic chores!

KVG, the Baby Björns are highly over-priced, as is all baby equipment alas, but they are also very useful to the person stuck at home with small one and needing to get jobs done. Hence monetary value is not the only consideration! Having said that, buying on eBay will be cheaper but you do need to watch that people aren't inadvertantly selling the old model of the BB Active, the one that's been recalled. Bumbos are mandatory equipment also, thinking about getting one for ds who has good back support already. (In my view!)

MrsW, happy wedding. Coop, happy boots!

Tea and I met up in Cambridge today, a most enjoyable luncheon. Tea's ds1 lived up to his online rep and informed us of bowel movements (always good to know), and later spent a happy half hour throwing sticks into some trees to get the monsters to come down. Apparently they couldn't, but I have high hopes that in future they will.

I am most jealous of Amber's routine, which goes: smile at everyone, have a nappy change, fall into deep sleep for a while, have some food (at lightning speed), repeat as necessary. Toby demonstrated his routine of: be awake, grump, try and have some food, major grump, try to go to sleep but be unable to, maximum grump, repeat as necessary until exhausted. He went berserk on the way home, I was seriously concerned about him, to the point of stopping two junctions from home to have a look at him. Obviously he is fine and I am just insane, but even so.

Have a good evening, all!

eastyorksmum · 24/09/2005 22:00

trib that great that you and tea met, lol im the same friend came down other day with her baby boy feeds for england and is just so content william fed for 3 oz grumpled, tryed to get to sleep grumpled and pooed 3 nappies lol one after the other.

Lua its nice that you had a great day hugsss

ok ive got a question are our juney babies taking over the house? william is lately

nite girlies sleep well and all our babies xxxx

bubbaloo · 24/09/2005 23:17

Charley-Can't do links but I saw those cubey things in the perfectly happy people catalogue today for £5.99.Dont know how that compares to the ones Coop was talking about. My brother and his girlfriend have just gone and I'm straight on here-he he! They left early as they've a busy day tomorrow, trailing around wedding venues-seems to be loads of weddings about, lately.
Ds is sound asleep...in his cot,but I bet I make loads of trips during the night into his room, just to check on him.
Actually we were in two minds whether to put him in there tonight as he was sick earlier which is unlike him,but gathered he must be ok otherwise he'd probably cry and wouldn't have taken his bottle.
Is anybody else watching the cbeebies yet?.
Ds loves it and i now know all the songs and characters from all the programmes, and even find myself singing along.
I reckon I've a tele addict on my hands here-when he's not watching the tv,he seems to be starring at our dvd's,probably trying to decide which one to watch-he he!!

bubbaloo · 24/09/2005 23:34

A bit "back to front" but I've just managed to read the earlier posts.

Coop-love the boots.I've a similar pair but not so high,as they wouldn't fit round my calves.

KVG-Glad your'e feeling a bit better now and getting out and about.I reckon the baby group will really help and it's great to meet other new mums who'll be in the same position.I haven't managed to get to any groups yet though,as all my local ones have a waiting list of about 12 months.

MrsW-Hope the wedding goes well and you all enjoy the day.

Trib-Glad you and Tea enjoyed your meet up today.

Tea-Your Ds sounds hilarious.

eastyorksmum · 25/09/2005 08:51

lummox · 25/09/2005 11:44

hi all,

aarrggghhhhh. ds is teething. all semblance of routine has disapeared overnight and the poor little thing is really uncomfortable. i've bought every teeting ring I can find and they are all either too big for him to put in his mouth or too big for him to hold properly.

Any tips for the top?

Good to read about how everyone else is doing. Wanted to add one small point on the Bumbo. We've got one and ds is quite good in it for shortish periods (about 15 minutes) but then really wants to get out and tries to throw himself backwards. I don't think there's any chance of him toppling it over, but it does look a bit scary and makes him a bit cross.

Also, it only goes up to 10 kilos. I know ds is a bit of a chubster but he only just fits in it (his legs won't go in if he is wearing anything other than his babygro ). So if anyone else with a chubster is thinking of buying one, just to say it might not last you that long.

bubbaloo · 25/09/2005 11:51

Morning All,

EYM-Hope you enjoy your evening tonight and find something to wear!.

What a morning we've had!
Ds slept in his cot for the first time last night. He went down at 10pm and slept till 7 this morning.Dh gave him a bottle and a few mins after he finished it he decided to have a major grizz attack. He cried for about 30 mins, untill he wore himself out,had a sleep for about an hour, then woke up with his lungs fully charged. He literally screamed the house down for about another 30 mins solid and we were so frustrated not knowing what was wrong. He hardly ever cries, let alone screams.Thought I'd check to see if he had a rash etc..and he had 3 small red marks on his side-very strange. No idea what they were but they weren't spots and it wasn't a rash-more of a blotch.Gave him another bottle and now he's absolutely fine and watching the cbeebies.Dh thinks the blotch maybe where he got himself stressed out by all the screaming-it's gone now so maybe he's right. He has also been bringing up a bit of milk the last couple of days also, but he still hasn't got rid of his cold yet,so it might all be connected.

Charley-Yes,we bought a nasal aspirator yesterday and used it this morning(before the screaming!).I was doing it wrong and blowing it all back up there, but dh did it in the end and got quite alot out(sorry if TMI).Ds didn't seem to mind having it done so that made it a bit easier.

Sorry for waffling on and boring you with details of our morning, but I feel much better now.I take my hat off to those of you who's babies cry alot-half hour was bad enough!

bubbaloo · 25/09/2005 11:56

lummox-x posted!

Nice to hear from you.
Wow...teething already.we bought a teething ring yesterday but that was mainly as Ds loves to put things in his mouth-don't think he's actually started yet though.
Thats really handy to know about the Bumbo. We are thinking of getting one as they do seem like a good idea.Haven't bought one yet as Ds can't hold his head completely-it occassionally drops forward,so we'll wait just a bit longer

sfxmum · 25/09/2005 13:16

afternoon ladies

dd been on her absolute best since last post on friday, she has been very entertaining.I on the other hand spent most of yesterday with a nasty migraine, i have had a few since the birth, blaming it on the epidural, never was one for headaches, still i guess lack of proper sleep and tiredness does not help.

this morning after her 5 am feed i brought her to my bed where she fell asleep. i woke at 7 with her babbling to herself giggling and blowing rasberries, her newest skill her father tought her.

at 16wks she is not yet rolling by herself although she likes spending time on her belly trying to pull herself along, she still doesn't know what her legs are for. its hard to keep her on her back because she constantly tries to sit up pushing on her little elbows and lifting her woobbly head. but still no rolling over!

charley - letters, yes well i do it mostly because of work. i do offer constant feedback and i keep records of these things its just good practice when working to enable people to access services.
this has spilled over into my 'civilian' life and yes i have had things like upgrades, free tickets, boxes of chocolate and so on. DH sometimes embarassed, but i dont do it for the sake of it, still there is a certain level of service which i should be entitled to. of course i am often ignored pain in the a*se woman.

coop-hope nights better. nice boots. have not yet sorted winter clothes dread shopping.

bubb-cbeebies well dd likes some of that stuff, telly addict like mum. i also read to her which she enjoys, part.rhymes.

lua- glad things are better
mrs wed- hope nice time had at wedding

tething- bought rings which i have to hold to her mouth, dont think she is tething yet but everything goes into her mouth these day.

mighty long post, blimey!

Thanks for the welcome back . Mean to post more, especially as I keep lurking and picking up really useful stuff from you guys.

bubbaloo - sorry to hear about your morning. I know what you mean about the crying thing - we're pretty lucky with ds, only really cries for food and stuff. So when he does cry (properly that is, rather than grizzling) it feels absolutely awful. Respect and sympathy for folk who dealt with little ones with colic/reflux who muct have to put up with it all the time. Hope you're afternoon/evening is better.

kvg - good luck with the baby b. we're just coming to terms with ours. I find it a bit tricky to get on and off, but fantastic when it's on. it was brilliant when we got stuck at Gatwick airport waiting for a delayed flight. (I was the one walking round the departures lounge for 2 and a half hours singing "they're changing guard at Buckingham Palace" over and over and over and over again)

tribpot · 25/09/2005 18:07

Well ladies I was the one pushing the pram round the streets of our town at 6 o'clock this morning, when ds had a super-paddy that I didn't think was fair to inflict even on our neighbours. I dunno why I think that, given I ended up sleeping in the hall the night before to get away from our worst offenders downstairs. At 6 a.m. I discovered said worst offenders had left the front door propped open all night - they are moving out and clearly couldn't be a*sed to go back down and move the door prop once they had finished for the night.

So it was in fact only a once round the block at 6 a.m., then I decided ds could damn cry in the flat, in that case. He went off at 6:30 but I was left lying on the sofa immobile, cold and unable even to turn on the telly for 2 1/2 hours, NOT a lot of fun!

Lummox - a delayed flight would be my worst nightmare right now, I do always keep the Baby Björn in the handluggage for just such occasions. The Active is a bit fiddly to get on and off and adjust, isn't it?

Oh, re: weaning and hv's, mine has positively encouraged the idea of weaning at 4 months, she claims the new rules are "just a guideline" I think this is probably because ds was screeching in her ear at the time and she thought "anything is worth a try if it gets this little beggar to settle a bit" (a sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with).

tribpot · 25/09/2005 18:12

Btw, I am mentally congratulating myself on not having started a few home experiments with dh's liquid morphine just to see how that helps ds sleep better

I miss the thread I just can't keep up anymore. I am just too busy with college and the baby to keep up. my spare time (when I have any) is spent reading.

I hope everyone is ok - we are starting at mother and baby group next week. I've had some nightmares with DS and the bottle as he just isn't interested and this is stressful when he goes to the childminder.

I really want to find out what people are up to be the thread is just to daunting.

take care

welshmum · 25/09/2005 19:22

DS HAS FINALLY DONE A POO!!!!!!! that's a full fortnight since his last one! How relieved am I?!

Trib that sounds like a pretty dreadful early morning - those inadvertent sleeps in uncomfortable places leave me with cricks everywhere that last all day.

Lummox - I miss the baby bjorn sling but I can't risk putting my back out again with ds, it was too incapacitating. Dh loves wearing it though - and the doting looks he gets from women when he's out and about

KVG - I agree with you about the babes crying when their systems get overloaded with new experiences - it's their only way of processing sometimes I think.

Charley - it's not a very special mat - just a square of bright orange cotton jersey with a spider printed on it - will dig it out and see who made it if you like. It does fold up really small though and is very handy if surfaces look dodgy.

I don't think I'll be up late tonight we've had a full on weekend - I've been out Friday and Saturday night (drinking too much wine and eating too much party food), also done 2 x 3 year old parties, 2 x lunches out and numerous other visits and stuff. I do enjoy it alot but I'm looking forward to a quieter week - I just can't take the pace anymore.....
Wishing you peaceful nights junies x

Cooperoo · 25/09/2005 20:04

God Welshie, I am exhausted just reading about your w/e
Hi Pink and Lummox
Hope things are better tomorrow Trib
Well I read the thread and have since placed a massive on line order from Next (Xmas presents and some other stuff) and can't remember what anyone was up to so sorry. Bubb had a baby in a cot sleeping well (yay) and then screaming and Tea and Trib have been being sociable .
I am off to bed now as MN has been seriously interfering with my early nights .
DD2 is still refusing the bottle. We tried NUK ones today and I reminded myself why I don't bother.....expressing takes to blooming long at such an inconvenient time of day (first thing in the am is the only time I seem to have a supply)!! I am going to try the Mam ones too though as a last resort. My Dad and stepmum come to stay on Thurs. Well actually we have hired a villa with a pool so we are all off on holiday for a while which will be lovely. I am hoping to do some reading!
I have a proud wife moment coming up, be warned. DH did an Olympic distance triathalon this morning for the RAF vs Army. He thrashed his pb finishing in 2hrs 24 mins and this contributed to the RAF winning yay! He couldn't move or talk or drink for half an hour after he finished though. Just sat under the showers trying to get himself together. I think it scared him a bit actually as it is v hot here still and easy to get v dehydrated, but he bounced back and has been on a high all day! We all went out for a celebratory steak. Anyway proud wife moment over. I will now confirm that my dh is a typical man with the total inability to see any jobs that need doing that seems to have afflicted some of the other dp/dh's on here lol.
Must go...just can't help myself . Can't believe the weekend is over! Bye for now.

Cooperoo · 25/09/2005 20:06

P.S. So glad about ds's poo Welshie. I found myself wondering about that today!!!!

tribpot · 25/09/2005 20:10

Welshie, well done ds and congratulations on the end of the poo siege Hope he might do another one a bit sooner, even for a bf baby a fortnight's a bit long really isn't it?

KVG, I think one of our probs with the BB is that we both wear it, so have to keep readjusting it after the other's had a go. Not v practical.

Dh also has fentanyl patches - I think fentanyl is one of the 'ingredients' of an epidural but not sure. I have contemplating cutting off a tiny corner of one of his patches and sticking that on Toby in some discreet location not likely to be picked up by the hvs

I think for Pink and busy people, maybe we need a summary or 'highlights' thread, how about a bulletin on how your week has gone, what do we think? We Junies are such a bunch of gas-bags it is a full-time job just keeping up, not sure how I will cope when I have to go back to my actual full-time job.

tribpot · 25/09/2005 20:11

Wow Coop, congrats to Mr Coop on a job well done!
