Evening all - well, it feels like evening already to me Actually I didn't get up til 715 if we exclude all the night feed bizzo & being unable to get back to sleep in between. Actually I think I might start taking valerian whenever I'm woken up, as that generally helps me nod back off again. Obviously my normal method of delivery - a glass of red wine - will not be on the cards for 3 o'clock in the morning, although lord knows, there were plenty of nights when we were in Sweden when I was still up drinking red wine at 3 a.m. Hey ho, not any more!

Leak seems to have been fixed with minimal hassle, fingers crossed. It was a leaky tap on the bathroom sink. Downstairs the repairs are going to be significant. Fortunately (sort of) there's no issue of whose buildings insurance to claim on, because the building's leasehold. Unfortunately, nobody actually knows who has the buildings insurance, so there could be lengthy battle over that.

A full on meet would probably have to take place in the Midlands, wouldn't it? Is it mandymac who lives in Nottingham? That would probably be as good a place as any, what do people think? Derby or Brum might be easier for the western contingent.

Coop, glad to hear about the boots, not sure about charley's "thick socks" idea for Cyprus but an insole maybe?

charleypops · 27/09/2005 19:33

Ha! Yes! SFX - you must only the about the 3rd person I know of (apart from my "music biz" mates to have heard of Woody and Arlo Guthrie! I sooo wanted to sing that song to ds, but unfortunately, he starts to squawk when I sing it to him I love all that old time bluesy stuff.

Trib - hope you can manage for the next few weeks and nothing weird happens that might mean you get stuck with a bill.

How about Coventry for a meet - it's pretty central?

Oh yeah - forgot about the weather in Cyprus - thick socks not v appropriate right? lol.

lummox · 27/09/2005 19:51

can i be number four, charley? I think of your ds every time i play "I don't want a pickle". I do know some songs other than "changing the guard at Buckingham Palace" but when ds is in meltdown it has to be a marching song and by the time he has calmed down I can only remember my own name best of three - no chance at all of thinking of a new song.

sleep still going really, really badly here. thinking of trying a bottle of formula in the hope of a better night. ds now over four months. does this work?

charleypops · 27/09/2005 20:14

Lummox - I love that song - I'd rather ride my motorsikkle - lol!
Poor you! some babies are ready for weaning at that age aren't they - maybe he could do with some extra calories. Of course I am very very far from being anywhere near an expert!

tribpot · 27/09/2005 20:28

Charley, I've heard of Woodie Guthrie & Arlo as well (outside the context of Arlo being my friend Louise's stripper name, as I mentioned once before). "This Land is Your Land" - I can do the harmonies in the Peter, Paul and Mary version. In fact I might treat ds to this tomorrow given I tried to sing him that lullaby about buying him a mocking bird, and if it didn't sing, a diamond ring and then couldn't remember anything that came after that.

Coventry - well, the last time I was there was years ago, but it was quite frankly rubbish. With due apologies to any Coventryists reading this. I was born just down the road from Cov (the much more glamorous - in my view - Leamington Spa). But somewhere around that area would be fine, we need something trainable from Leeds/Manch/Sheffield and I guess London / Oxford - I think that's why I thought Brum, cos I am sure you can get there from Oxford without going through London on the way ...

Hi ya

Hope you Northern gals had a good meet today

Charley - oooh no don't think I could have coped if it had been that blue dinosaur , no the lost one was one we'd only bought less than 20 mins before the fatal bus trip...actually ds was going on about it again today, wanting me to go back and do the bus trip again to see if we could find his lost alan (the alosaurus!)

Lua - ha ha ha - know just what you mean about your magic wheel...we had a doggy ds never went anywhere without, dd looked at it, puked on it and has never been interested since

Trib - what a nightmare with the leak, glad it's finally stopped now. Hope sorting the insurance won't be too much of a pain. Gosh a due in June 2006 thread already actually I think it was about this week last year I found out I was pg with dd > doesn't time fly! Actually a friend of mine had her 2nd ds today and I'm so excited, can't wait to see him - mind you dd will look massive next to a newborn now Friends moving to Barbados - you lucky things...my best friends moved to just outside of Wolverhampton a couple of years ago - it somehow doesn't seem to compare as a holiday destination!

Lovely pix sfx - you have the same play gym as me!

Coop - bummer about the boots being too big - hope the news ones arrive as speedily.

Can't remember who asked about the average june baby - definitely not my dd - 91st centile girl and growing...hope your ds likes his women big Lua

Big central meet would be great - agree Brum is most central, or Notts but not sure about train links?? Actually could also make lunch at yours Welshie (love food) could even make a bicester meet (have car, love shopping, will travel!)

Teething - the friend who just had the baby - her ds1 cut his first tooth at just over 3 months - so it's definitely possible!

DD still not interested in rolling, but has just mastered putting soles of feet together whilst reclining like lady muck in her bath seat...then giggles each time she repeats said action - very funny to watch bless LOL Trib at Toby's telepathy - took Amber's cardigan off her this afternoon and it was sopping wet where she'd been in the car seat and secretly devouring it whilst I couldn't see what she was up to!

teabelly · 27/09/2005 21:38

KVG - I'm a very slow typist - xposts there - bless your dd's cooing - Amber has passed from the cooing to the piercing shriek that makes you think she's hurt herself - then she breaks into a great big gummy grin and does it again louder!

Re the working tax thingy - I'm the same (awaiting my official redundancy notification next week). I phoned for the gumpf and you apply a tax year in arrears salary wise (i.e. they want info for year to 5th April 2005) so I couldn't claim this year but will be able to in the next tax year...can hunt out the stuff and get a number for you if you like?

LipstickMum · 27/09/2005 21:44

Hello all!

Ooooh I like all this talk about 'big' meet ups!! As for mini- meets, a Bicester village one sounds good, Lynny? Tea? Charley? Anyone else...?

I love the pics sfx, you all look very cosy and happy

Time to keep scanning the web for holiday house for next year yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

evening ladies
after the silent taking of vaccines we had a screamaton of the likes i have only seen once. no idea what sparked it. between dh and i we managed o keep it together and at after about an hr she went to sleep. she usually has an off/odd day after vaccines, maybe this was faster since she has been sneezing and bit snoty for the last couple of days
hats off to all of you who have this on a regular basis - frayed nerves i tell you

i very much like the idea of a meet but cant quite cope with the idea of using the tube after 7/7 'i am quite afraid' actually.
i did know someome who died (not very well but was a professional relationship) on the pic line bomb still fraks me out. enough crazy talk

hope you all have good nights

eastyorksmum · 28/09/2005 09:32

what do you think?

right busy day today first party grrrrrr
love to you all see you later xxxxxxx

MrsWednesday · 28/09/2005 10:54

Lovely to meet you Northern mums and your beautiful babies yesterday. Would definitely be on for a full Junie meet-up somewhere in the Midlands.

KVG and Trib - we also thought about another Northern meet, probably in Leeds once Trib has relocated.

Well my sister's wedding was brilliant, such a lovely and emotional day. The bride looked radiant and lasted the day pretty well considering she is 5 months pregnant. The DSs were very well behaved and we managed to get both of them to sleep by 9.30 so had some time to enjoy ourselves without them...me and DH actually hit the dance floor for the first time in years and it was fantastic (although the next day was a struggle - all four of us were tucked up in bed for 8.00pm on Monday night ).

DS2 still hasn't found his feet or managed to roll over but he has learnt how to blow raspberries, bless him

Sfxmum, what beautiful pictures.

Lynny, will keep my fingers crossed that it's just the anti-biotics making you feel a bit funny. Are you going to do a test?

Lua and Jonah, here is the link for that thread I was on about yesterday:

earth mother thread

Just re-read it and it made me cry with laughter.

Bubb, hope the boots fitting went ok.

Tea and Trib, the lunch sounds like a riot! I'm sure my DS1 and Tea's DS would get on famously (we often spend time looking for monsters).

Great news about the poo Welshie, your DS must have felt revitalised after all that time (and several ounces lighter too ).

Rubbish attempt at a catch-up from me I'm afraid but DS2 has just fallen asleep so I really should get on with my ironing mountain. Ah, the excitement of it all...

mandymac · 28/09/2005 11:43

Bugger - just done half a post and lost it - grrrr.

Morning Junies (although I suspect it will be afternoon before this post gets sent).

Hope the northern meet went well.

I've been lurking since the weekend when we were visiting PILs in London. Had a great time and got out for the evening on Saturday while they babysat. .

I was out last night too at a leaving do for my boss. It was good to get out, but I missed DD, even though if I had been at home, she would have been asleep! .

Here goes mammouth attempt to catch up:

Lummox - about french livers. If I remember correctly from childhood hols in france, they have the run of the mill 'mal au fois' (pain in the liver) or the more serious 'crise de fois' - (liver crisis)!!! No idea what that entails, but I think it is french for hangover , or maybe spectacular wind!

Coop - Lovely boots shame about the sizing and congrats to DH on sporting prowess - very fit obviously!!!

Trib - Hope the leak situation gets sorted out without too much trouble to you! What a pain.

Lynny - We switch the monitor off when we put her down in the evenings if she is screaming . Well we can hear her from downstairs anyway! Then it goes back on to check that she doesn't wake up. Fingers crossed that your gippy tum is just the abs!

EYM - Good luck for your first party. I'm sure you will be great! Let us know how it goes.

Welshie - Thanks for the info on wine drinking, I'm getting through a bottle every 3 days, so not back to pre-baby quantities, but glad to hear that it isn't an issue! We deserve all the treats we can get I reckon!

Lippy - I actually quite miss my capsule maternity wardrobe, I had that quite sorted. Now I'm trying to rediscover my old clothes and pluck up courage for another trip to town. I think I might try the Top Shop personal shopper again - it was great last time, so easy to do with DD in tow. DH has promised to buy me some new jeans this month too .

SFX - is your other half a northener? We are both southeners moved north and DH keeps telling dd 'remember it's baaaath not bath' etc. I do wonder how her accent will turn out and if she will call people m'duck .

Charley - at your 10.30am rising. DD won't have that - up at 7.30am at the latest.

Has anyone thought about the clocks changing! Someone at baby massage mentioned it and it struck fear into my heart, I'm going to try and move dd's waking and bedtimes back a bit later during October, so that hopefully it isn't too traumatic!

KVG - DH took dd for her 2nd jabs on his own yesterday, as I was ill. I felt really guilty and then he was late home, so I was worried, but bless him, he had taken her for a drive, so she could sleep and 'forget about it' . Touch wood she's been fine so far today.

Tea - lovely image of your dd giggling at her foot trick and secretly devouring her cardie . I like to imagine dd up to all sorts when she's out of sight. We get lots of clicks and feedback on our monitor, and I keep telling DH that it is dd on the CB radio and that one day we will have a convoy of trucks pulling up outside! . Not sure what her 'handle' would be, hmm will have to think of one.

I'm off, dd is waking from her nap, sorry if i've missed anyone, but didn't go further back than Tuesday.

charleypops · 28/09/2005 12:55

Trib - I was being entirely selfish suggesting Cov - that's where the in-laws live so dp might've been able to drive up so he could go see them. ha ha - yes, poor Arlo's going to have a lot to live up to with an anagram like that

KVG - I'm still a badder mummy than you - I've been putting ds down for naps on his front because that's the only way he'll settle - he's got trapped wind and he's obviously in a bit of pain if flat on his back at the moment Good news is that this morning he napped in his cot for the first time, rather than the carrycot! Might tty him in it tonight - Grobag arrived this morning.
Thanks for the on-line child benefit tip!
Have you got your BB Active yet? I took ds out in mine yesterday for (it turned out) almost an hour's trial run - he loved it, and loved being able to peer at things, then he actually fell asleep in it!

MM - don't be too at my 10.30 risings - he didn't let me do it this morning - had to get up and entertain him at 8.30. Shame My French friend has told me about "crise de fois" - it's the tummy ache and apathy you feel if you had too much rich food and wine.
what's the Top Shop personal shopper - an actual member of staff?? Is that just at the Oxford street store?

I really want to join a baby massage or yoga class, but how on earth do you ensure your babe isn't too tired and grizzly - during the day, I really don't have much of a routine due to his refluxy snacking.

MrsW - Lovely wedding! Were you doing "aunty style" "wedding reception" dancing?? I've been doing that for the past few years sadly - I used to be a fab dancer, even though I do say so myself

EYM - successful party?

SFX - Can't blame you for not using the tube. All that terrorist business was one of the main reasons we moved out of London. I'm sure we'd still be there now if it wasn't for that. Sorry to hear about your work associate

Lynny - weell?? Thought I was going to be the first! We've decided to have a go next month. I'm scared. Actually we'd've tried this month, only we were too tired!

Tea - is there really an Alosaurus? are they a recent discovery? Bless your cardi munching dd!

charleypops · 28/09/2005 12:55

Do you all have routines now?

LipstickMum · 28/09/2005 13:30

Ola!!

I'm of you all having a lovely meet up!! Glad it was good though

Mrs W - I'm glad the wedding was fun, I didn't realise your sis is pg too, I bet she was running on excitement the whole day!! What did she wear?!

Sfxmum - Sorry to hear about your work associate I saw a girls face on screen who was missing, I used to go to school with her. It was bizarre to see a face I recognised on the 6 o'clock news especially since I last remember her as a young teenager, it was very odd.

MM - I read a review of personal shoppers in various dept stores and Top Shop came out pretty top. It has to be a real essential for us busy mums I reckon, plus me in Oxford St Top Shop with all those 6 stone 18 year olds with concave tummies??? I don't think so!!!

Lynny - ???? Oh my bloody goodness. Get a test done stat!!! I feel sick just thinking about it.

Are you ttc too Charley?? I remember you said you were going to. Are you not listening to a word us mums of 2 are saying???!!!

I think we are going to wait longer this time between 2 and 3, mainly because we don't have the space

sfxmum · 28/09/2005 13:39

morning all
glad to report that after last nights drama she slept like an angel. woke up twice for feeds but right back to sleep.
i was so tense, found it hard to sleep and woke up with headache, dh helped with slouder/ neck massage. got better

as ever the day after vaccines she seems to sort of slow down, but all good, no temp.

routines- think i said before we started at around 8wks with a routine of sequence of events rather than times. it worked well. dd now has bath at around 7pm is asleep, usually within the hr after feed. she is put to bed awake and drops off. we practice attachment parenting, feed on demand and i must say we have been lucky.
dd is a calm baby no prolonged crying ever.
i think i could do with more structure regarding daytime naps but its more for my benefit rather than hers. think she gets as muh sleep as she needs given the chance.

second baby- like i said my advancing years do not allow for much delay but i thought i would wait until dd is 1 before trying

glad north lasses had lovely time where are the pics?

bubbaloo · 28/09/2005 14:19

MrsW-Glad it all went well for your sister's wedding, and that you all enjoyed yesterday's meet up.

Sfx-Sorry to hear about your work associate. My parents neighbour was also killed that day-it's pretty scary stuff.I'm the same when it comes to the tube-I'm dreading going back to work, for that reason.

Charley-Fingers crossed on the cot and grobag front.

EYM-Good luck for your first party tonight.Hope you enjoy it and get lots of orders.

Lynny-Have you done a test yet? could be the antibiotics,or could be something else.
We're not "actively trying",but we're also not using anything to prevent it,although I think I'd be rather shocked if it did happen this quick.

Ds is now wearing his little boots.Must admit they're not quite as scary as I imagined, but they do look like they're on the wrong feet.He has to wear them for 23 hours a day-only take them off to bath him and give him a little break.Just before we went to bed last night,we noticed a pooey smell coming from ds's room.He was asleep but thought it best to change his nappy, otherwise he might've woken up in the night.I changed him inside his sleeping bag and he didn't even wake up.A couple of times in the night I could hear him shuffling about so I gathered it must've been the boots, but it wasn't.When he woke this morning,I realised I never did his vest back up again last night so he was probably really uncomfortable having poppers digging in him, poor mite.

teabelly · 28/09/2005 14:56

Hi there just a quickie as I have to go and get ds from nursery, but whilst catching up quickly, dd is on my lap - I'm laughing at the comments about her cardi munching habits to suddenly notice I have a wet feeling on my arm - sneaky little blighter's only eating my cardi as she doesn't have one on!!!

Charley - yup 'alan' is the t-rex from the period before the big 't' was around - according to my dh - to me it's just another 't' he he he

Mrs W - yup think the boys wpuld get on famously

Right don't want to be late again this week so catch you later...

p.s. Lynny - do a test, do a test - I can say that smiling after my possible scare a few weeks ago! Lippy - talking of a third already...have you not learnt anything being a mum of two?

ok I'm really off now...x

LipstickMum · 28/09/2005 15:37

Ah! Touche Tea But I am thinking of waiting more than a couple of months!

KVG - Thank you I have just applied for child benefit online! it took me ages to get round to it last time and you start to lose it after 12 weeks I think??? At least, you used to.

redheadmum · 28/09/2005 16:08

just a quickie ...not much time today

we've all been ill and DH is very ill with tonsillitus and chest infection. He's just been in bed now for 2 days, got some anti-biotics today so maybe that will help. Have just sneaked him some ice cream upstairs before DD sees!!!

had lots of notes from last time I read the thread, and then couldn't post so here goes

sleep clinic: there was a local one run by the HVs. I got a referral to it through the HV (still having problems with the 2nd one though - this must be my particular mummy talent)

disabled loos- yep use these too. When they make proper facilities for parents I'll use them instead!!

MAM bottles - am thinking of trying - these get the thumbs up? ready to try the bottle again after the unsuccessful mexican stand off (baby 1 mommy 0)

3rd baby? - today and yesterday was no way! but other days well....

must go need to see if I can get 5 mins sit down (ha ha) am knackered!!!

JonahB · 28/09/2005 19:14

Evening ladies,

First of all, it was lovely to see you all yesterday. All your DS/DD's are lovely. I had a nightmare getting home last night. Trams weren't running properly. M'cr centre was a nighmare due to rushhour, combined with lots of football fans, combined with 2 big crashes on major roads out of town. You couldn't get either a tram or a taxi for love nor money. My poor DS had to go much longer than usual without being fed and kept looking up and wimpering at me. Luckily his lungs didn't really open until we (eventually) made it home. I didn't even mind when the driver of the taxi i managed to flag down gave me a description of the "snip" in minute detail. Local anaesthetic apparently. Why he thought i'd want to know this about him is slightly beyond me.....

Trib ? lol ? I sing the mocking bird song to my DS as well. If i dont remember words to songs, i just make them up as i go along. DS doesn't know the difference. I sing all sorts of nonsense at him.

Coop ? sorry about the boots. The next pair will be PERFECT!!!!!

SFX ? what a cutie picture. I have the same playgym as well

OMG Lynny!!! Pregnant again????? Lordy, do a test now and don?t keep us in suspense a moment longer!!!!!! Charley/Bubb you are both a lot braver than i am, even contemplating a 2nd so soon.

Trib - hope you solve the leak situation soon. Its a hassle i'm sure you could live without.

Mrs Wed, thanks so much for that link. That is SO funny. I've been trying to feed DS and not to laugh so violently that he stops feeding and looks up at me in disgust....

welshmum · 28/09/2005 19:23

Too knackered to add much - really full on day with the two munchkins - will chat more tomorrow. Just wanted to say hello really....god, I really, really am tired.
