Cooperoo - top boots!

Tribpot - you've pretty much got it, although sadly they didn't stop to play boules. They did make a lot of hand to head gestures, though - which makes us feel at home, obviously . The old guys from the village are all very manly and Gallic but surprisingly slushy when it comes to babies. They are all oddly obsessed with ds's ears being cold - people will comment on the fact that he is not wearing a hat in the supermarket. In August. Weird.

Also, no-one worries about babies having wind - the mothers I spoken to don't try to get their babies to burp. But, apparently you have to be very careful about your baby's liver. Not quite sure how you know if there is something wrong, or what you would do about it, though.

Sorry for all the expat ramblings. Hope everyone is ok and getting more sleep than we are. Our baby monitor is starting to seem like a harbinger of doom - every tiny sound makes me and dh flinch, thinking that ds is going to wake up.

KVG - we do have great local boulangeries but have to drive as too far away to walk. Know what you mean about the bumbo being funny - first few times ds just looked so surprised to be in there and sitting up by himself (albeit listing a little alarmingly) - it seems to fold them up in a really, really cute way.

You have also made me feel all soppy about the baby. Thank you - was getting too short of sleep to appreciate him.

Lummox-we also thought it might be teething but according to the doctor he's far too young, and won't be teething untill he's at least 6 months old,so he says! He had a look in both his ears and apparently he is coming to the end of an ear infection. Was told to give him Calpol if he's grumpy over the next couple of days, and thats about it.Ds is also dribbling like mad and pushing his fists in his mouth so far,it's making him gag!

Trib-A summary thread sounds great. It'll stop me coming on here everyday.

Hope those going, enjoy the meet up tomorrow.

KVG-Awww you soppy thing. What a lovely thing to say.
I've been looking at those Bumbo's today. The cheapset I could find was £26.Has anyone seen a Bumbo any cheaper than that anywhere?

We've got an exciting day tomorrow. We're off to the hospital as usual, but this time we're actually picking up ds's little boots.Let's hope they do the trick and sort his feet out.

charleypops · 26/09/2005 21:47

Got my BB carrier today - had it on in the house, ds didn't seem to mind - loads less hassle than the Ellaroo. It's got the extra safety strap Trib. Can't wait to give it a test run tomorrow!!

Trib - how selfish of your neighbours, and poor you for your early morning pram pushing. You must have been knackered
Well done btw for keeping away from the morphine! somedays I find the Calpol winking at me frantically from the medicine cupboard...lol at the fentanyl patches.

KVG - I don't find the Active fiddly - not compared to the Ellaroo anyway lol, and very easy to adjust - just pull on the straps, don't know how it compares with the original though? You soppy thing btw

Pink - Hi!! Horrid when they won't eat properly isn't it? You don't think he's got reflux do you?

Welshie - congratulations on the long awaited poo! What a crazy weekend. Phew.

Coop - WELL DONE DH!! Sorry about your bottle feeding problems. Have you tried a Dr Brown's Bottle? Thanks for the link

LOL Lummox at "they're changing guard at Buckingham Palace" over and over and over and over again. Don't you know any other songs? I only know "head and shoulders, knees and toes..." Lol too at the old folded armed staring men from the village - your poor stove man!

Tea - you're soo funny! Bless him and his balloon. He didn't lose his blue dinosaur did he? ?Thanks for the link

Well done Bubbs on getting ds to sleep in his cot - my dad's got my brother to buy mine a grobag, so when I get that I'll have a go myself How do your local M&b groups have a 12 month waiting list?? You should simply start one yourself. Oh dear - blowing snot back up his nose! Poor mite Easy mistake to make when you have a screaming child I bet!

EYM - sounds like you're having a fabby time at all your aS meetings! You must have soo much energy

Lummox - Wow - teething already? I'm kind of jealous - you'll get it out of the way quicker.

SFX - good for you with your letters - you're right to do it - "services" get away with murder if no one complains. Sorry about your migranes, have you considered cranial osteopathy? A lot of people seem to swear by it.

Katz - hope dd2's cold clears up soon - I'm dreading ds getting one.

Lua - what's the Magic Wheel?

Lynny - 16 hours' sleep a day is normal isn't it? If you're worried, speak to HV or dr, then when they tell you everything's fine, which it will be, Make The Most Of It!!!

Hi Lippy! Yep - a whole 8 oz DR Brown's bottle in about 25 mins Massive baby though - born on same day as mine too. Had a few moments of paranoia I can tell you!

tribpot · 26/09/2005 21:55

Bubba, your doctor is talking rubbish, to put it politely. Babies can teethe from any age, I have this from a friend of mine who is a dental surgeon (when I suggested to her that ds is too young). But my books say from 3 months is 'normal if unusual'. Best of luck with the baby boots!

We have just had an amusing time, neighbour-wise. Our very loud downstairs neighbs reported to their landlord that there was water leaking through the ceiling, leading to nightmares trying to get plumbers out, a leak being found that was in the wrong place, all sorts of fun and games which is still going on. The water is now basically pouring through the ceiling, to the point where I have volunteered to go and empty buckets for the landlord as our nightmare neighbs have now moved out.

However, I thought I would use the opportunity to have a go about the neighbours (I don't know if you recall, these are the people who chain smoked and I nearly gagged on the smell of fag smoke in our spare room practically every day of my pregnancy) - and just for good measure, the bloke on the ground floor who I affectionately call "wnker" (not to his face). Ho ho ho, it turns out wnker is one of this bloke's tenants as well and he's round there right now telling him off for making too much noise.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Unfortunately our floor may need digging up over the leak problem, and we're moving out in 6 weeks anyway, but I am looking forward to a newly-chastened w*nker coming home from work tomorrow and NOT blaring his crappy R&B out of his car whilst he sorts himself out to come in, NOT having boxing matches in his living room (I've seen him do this) and NOT opening the windows so he and his mates can party out on the pavement outside his flat, accompanied by said crappy R&B played at top volume from inside.

lua · 26/09/2005 22:05

Hyia Charley -
This is what we call the magic wheel

Coop - Keep forgetting to say - Good Job Mr. Coop!
and you probably already tought about that, but when we got mam teats to work they were the NUMBER 2.

charleypops · 26/09/2005 22:20

Wow that looks amazing! can a baby use it before they can sit up by themselves?

sfxmum · 26/09/2005 23:27

here

at last link to baby pics above from birth till fairly recent.

charley-thanks for tip was considering something like it if they persist.

kvg - after 3 miscarrages and now well into my 30's, this one is pretty special. i am often given to proud parent talk that no one can stand

cravings - lately i am partial to ryvita piled high with peanut butter and jam, this having given up the cottage cheese. but i call it glutony really - used to eats lots of sushi but not in mood lately.

crazy neighbours- last place we lived at, woman across was usually off her t*ts on something, she used to come and knock on our door and ask stupid things like ' do you think my mother is in?' ' i have locked myself out can i borrow your key to get in?(!!!)'. DH as usual tried to be compassionate and patient, when she got me she usually got the door.
we moved to a nicer place..but some guy across the road choose 2am to have blazing row with girlfriend in the middle of the road, it all ended with police and ambulance, the girl was arrested. all this while i am trying to settle tiny new baby

i have seldom felt more homicidal

Morning All,

Charley-it's great to have our bedroom back to ourselves now,but those monitors pick up every little sound,so I'm actually going into him a couple of times in the night only to find he is fast asleep. He is such a fidget and shuffles all the time when he's asleep.Ds has been sleeping in a grobag and I find them so much easier than blankets. Not sure if I'm going to be able to use them now though,as Ds is going to have to sleep in these boots-trial and error I think.

Trib-I also though't my doctor was talking rubbish.I'd love to prove him wrong.
Good for you reporting your neighbours-shame about the floor though.

SFX-Love the pictures.

Lynny-Enjoy your day.

welshmum · 27/09/2005 09:45

Morning all - I'm a bit jealous of the northern ladies having a meet up - any southerners got the energy to attend one? You could all come to my house for lunch if you like......

Trib - really interested to hear how your sleep lady consult goes - I'm thinking of phoning her today for a sit rep.

Lynny - things sound like they're coming together for you. Loved your comments on your dh on the marriage thread - you old soppy [ grin]

Coop - your boots are fab. I tried on some lovely ones in Clarks yesterday....mmm can I justify them I wonder - doubt it

KVG - I know what you mean about adoration of the babies, ds has the cutest smile ever and he's started chuckling - it's just so fab.

Charley - hello - how are you missus? Are things going better now? You commented on everyone else but didn't say how you were....

Lippy - just how badly behaved were you? I had a great chat with the 'lactation consultant' last week. She told me not to worry too much about drinking a glass or three in the evenings as only a miniscule amount gets to the baby. She says the mother's happiness is more important that worrying over 0.001 ml of alcohol of whatever it is. I was cheered by this

I'm off to sort out my ds' passport today and get dd's latest report from nursery - hopefully she's not giving them too much jip.

ladies, wiping a tear from my eye - the Due in June 2006 thread has begun! Ahhh, happy days.

lummox, most intrigued by this hat-wearing and liver-watching activity over in La Belle France. I will be having a word with my French friend who had her baby at the end of August for more info.

sfx - what a little sweetheart, ahhhhh.

Well, plumber has been again, looks like a leaking tap has fixed the problem, fingers crossed. The downstairs is a nightmare, though, it's leaked on to the kitchen cabinets and they're all warping ... arrgghh.

LipstickMum · 27/09/2005 15:44

Ola!!!

Oh my gosh Trib has the June 2006 thread started??? Wow.

Well, Welshie, I had a fair bit to drink I can tell ya, threw caution to the wind

Hope all you people further north had a good meet up! Are we ever going to have a 'full' meet??? Where would be truly in between??? I didn't make the last meet either, didn't really have time with the christening the following day. I must say I also didn't quite have the wherewithall to go, lost my nerve, which is weird after 2 very nice meets under my belt...

Lynny- You and I are very close you know, we should attempt a mini-meet at Bicester village; coffe and shopping!

Coop - I love the boots. I think you are trying to achieve the same kind of look I am!! A boot that goes with everything, jeans, skirt, 3/4 jeans etc and is funky 'to boot' Pardon the pun

I managed a quick shop again today!! bear in mind my wardrobe has seen better days, I don't even have a capsule wardrobe Anyway, I got a nice skirt (dinners and lunches) and 2 very nice, slightly different tops from Whistles. Then I got some jeans in the Gap, all in under 2 hours!!!

Dd2 crying after her jabs, I must go.

sfxmum · 27/09/2005 15:45

afternoon all
pretty chuffed at my little monkey, just back from 3rd lot of vaccines and not a peep out of her, just looked at nurse with some interest
now that it is until MMR

almost makes up for the fact that the receptionist messed up the dates and gave me appointments last week, which i missed, instead of this week. we could still do vaccines but will have to wait a week to see the HV. would like to know how heavy she is, not weigh since 12wks

trib-bet you cant wait to leave, southerner no more

southern meet i would love to go to one at some point probably easier when babies are more settled whenever that may be - btw, anyone from london?

at christmas i will be in the north, where DH more clearly points out the correct pronunciation of words

coop- had look at boots more closely think just about the only ones which wil ever fit me, let us know how you get on

lynnie certain angle and certain light is all can say but cheers
i think its impossible for you not to worry and in these situations clear logic has little to do with it, but you do have two different precious girls

thanks for comments on pics proud mum melting, june was a good crop for sure

groceries due soon, dinner should be easy

Cooperoo · 27/09/2005 16:16

Really quick as i have no time to post having done all that reading to catch up lol. Busy day today as DH working late and then had rugby and I am out tonight (with baby in car seat this time) -phew. I am very excited to announce that my boots arrived today which is exceptionally quickly especially for delivery out here. They are FANTASTIC!! 100% what I wanted and look even better than they do in the pic. They are a darker brown which I was hoping for. Really really thrilled but ..... they are too big in the foot . I am a 6 1/2 but my old boots that are too small are a 39 so I ordered a 40 which they say is a 7. Too big. I rang them straight away to order the next size down and there is a 4 week wait as they are out of stock. However I am more than happy to wait. If anyone else want some ring them to check sizes as the lady said that style can be big. My calf measurements were a bit odd too and they recommended the 35 cm via email before and that was spot on. Wish I had asked about the foot size now but never mind. They are a small family business though and were slow answering my emails but I am glad I persevered. They got a feature on This Morning today though (just as DH walked in with my parcel lol) so I think they may be busy.
Anyway sorry to post and run. Don't really have time for all that but I know you will appreciate my excitement (DH doesn't quite get it, esp as it is FAR too hot to wear boots here at the moment .
SFX - Gorgeous baby!
Trib - June 2006 thread wow.
Take care all. xxxx

charleypops · 27/09/2005 16:28

SFX - gorgeous piccies!
Are you in London? (just wondering because there's not many places you can get sushi)
Your neighbours!! Hope they don't make a habit of it. Don't kill anyone though

Lynny - please try to stop worrying - jessica is perfect I can kind of understand the paranoia you're feeling - when my ds isn't eating very well, and drops off his curves, everything else seems to go wrong and it's all too easy to get sucked into those dark places x Hopefully in the not too distant future we'll be able to look back at this period of our little ones' lives and wonder what all the fuss was about
Hope you're having a lovely time with your friends. Oh, and please don't say you're lazy in the mornings - I not been getting out of bed until about 10.30 Back to my old ways....

Bubbs - Got my brother to order me a Grobag - can't wait until it arrives! Why can't you use it with his boots on? They look quite spacious to me. I've heard of babies teething really early too - I've also heard of babies being born with teeth although they usually have to have these removed.

Welshie - I'm actually pretty good right now, thanks for asking - I've been using earplugs for the last few nights and it seems to help me sleep - it also helps that I stay in bed with ds through his post-sleep snoozes! I think I've been getting my full quota now for 3 nights in a row! He has a check-up with the consultant tomorrow though and I'm a bit nervous.

Guess what - I'm such a bad mother, I haven't even applied for ds's child benefit yet! I'm not even sure where the forms are anymore

Trib - poor you and your ongoing leaky stuff, not what you need is it??

Lippy/Lynny - I'd love to invite myself to Bicester Village with you - not been for a couple of years - ds is rubbish in his car seat though, so limited to 20 minute journeys if I'm on my own at the moment. I'm impressed with your speed shop Lippy! Takes me months to decide on one pair of jeans (I'm sure you can imagine..)

Coop - what a shame about your boots - you couldn't just wear thicker socks with them could you ?

sfxmum · 27/09/2005 16:50

charley- yes i live in richmond, pretty much can get anything you want here.
this might mean nothing to you, but given your childs name i was reminded of one of dd's favourite CD's ' songs to grow on for mother and child' by woody guthrie - there is a song 'goodnighr little arlo, goodnight little darlin', which was his soon. we love the songs
