Trib - the poo siege is a very good description - he was so happy after too, bless him [ grin]
A highlights thread is a really good idea - how would that work do you think?

teabelly · 25/09/2005 20:50

Evening all

Trib - too bloody true - I'm only just posting now coz it's taken so long to catch up! - think a synopsis (sp) at the end of the week would be a fab idea!

Thanks for the praise about my kiddies - but you left out the part where ds had a massive paddy because his balloon floated up to the vaulted ceiling and couldn't be retrieved! Whereupon the staff who previously couldn't possibly bring out just one scoop of icecream as that wasn't on the menu, suddenly found a scoop of chocolate icecream and another ballon [the last it would appear after a desperate search as it was a christmas one] to stop the child scaring the other diners Sorry to hear Toby was so unsettled on the way home, if it makes you feel any better ds also lost his new dinosaur, grrr, on the bus and we had tears all the way home from him - a yellow balloon from the draw just wasn't going to compensate for his dramatic day!

Welshie - YEAH, HURRAH - now of course he's gonna do at least 3 every day for the next week

Charley - changing rooms - I just pull the curtain around me and buggy - whilst leaving said buggy half out in the gangway for everyone else to fall over as they try to pass by

Disabled loos - I'm another one who uses those without shame - actually in alot of places that's where the baby change units are anyway. In Milton Keynes they have loos especially for mums and buggies which is an idea all other shopping centres should adopt - I've all but wet myself before when I first had ds because I was too shy/nervous to ask someone to watch him whilst I went

Charley the link for those containers is here

Well we tried dd on her first bit of baby rice today and I have to say the consensus is a great big no - after gagging on the first spoonful she then firmly clamped her mouth shut and refused to open again until the spoon and dish had very definitely been washed up! Soooo very different to ds who finished the container full on first attempt and never looked back ...we try again tomorrow and if still no interest I may wait a week and put up with increased amounts of feeds as she is very hungry but can't cope with more than 6oz in one go, or the whole lot comes back!

Well I'd better go and let you get some sleep - try and catch you all tomorrow, x

tribpot · 25/09/2005 21:33

Tea, I did skip the Grand Balloon Paddy on purpose, bless his heart, it was worth it just for the look of horror on the restaurant staff's faces Amazed at dd refusing the baby rice, that is one hungry baby. I have never seen a child consume so much milk in such a short period of time. It was like: 6oz. [Blink] It's gone!

Highlights thread: we can either just start a separate thread and agree to post an update every (say) Friday - or maybe Monday is better, whatever, or I can host it on my webspace, a la the Junies birth page, which is still here , btw. People could email me their contribution for that week, so that busy folk have less to trawl through - although I guess on a normal thread it'd be fairly obvious which were the recent posts?

tribpot · 25/09/2005 21:36

Btw, sorry am queen of the double posts at the mo due to inability to get through one thought from beginning to end! Baby rice: are we giving it as a separate feed with a spoon, as per what Tea has described? I thought that was the done thing, but you can add it to the feed as well, can't you? Surely that's confusing as then when they start on solids properly you want them back on just normal milk again? (I was reading the back of the packet of baby rice in Tesco today in anticipation)

sfxmum · 25/09/2005 21:42

evening
quick catch up before bed, so tired but really good weekend babywise.
glad stopped by made me LOL

trib-oh dear sorry about that night, i am not that neighbourly - well done on holding off the drugs, best keep it for really desperate situations, would not want them to build reistance too soon.

welshie- hurrah! been checking for news on poo front, will refrain from asking for details.

coop-well done to mr. sure they do this sort of thing to get off housework.

have a good night.

teabelly · 25/09/2005 21:57

Trib - still here - just, looking up flights for hols next year...sooooooo need to get a sun filled laze on the beach type holiday, well laze as much as a todler and baby will allow he he he

Re the weaning - what I did with dd and ds before her was try in a feed where they're not starving (so not breakfast or last feed) then give half of chosen feed in dd's case 3oz of 11 o'clock feed, then mix some of remaining feed with rice and try to feed that. After rice if baby still hungry give remaining feed. If this works well then with ds I gradually cut back amount of milk for chosen feed(s) until he was having all solids that feed and no milk. This takes quite a few feeds and by the time no milk is given he was on 'real' food - not just rice, hth

teabelly · 25/09/2005 22:15

Ooh now I'm gonna be a double post queen for the summary thread maybe we could do it aka the fast show's jesse..

'...this week I have mostly been not sleeping and my baby hasn't been pooing...'

Cooperoo · 26/09/2005 06:12

Cubes also here I think you get two for the price here. No time to chat. Byeee

welshmum · 26/09/2005 07:46

Like that idea tea - we all just post a couple of lines that sum up our week.

Ds has definitley unblocked himself - went in to feed him at 3am and the whole room smelt of vanilla toffee and he had carpeted his nappy and stained his bottom orange - TMI I know, but, hey it's a novelty for me! And he's just so delighted with himself - bless.

eastyorksmum · 26/09/2005 09:21

Morning mums

yayyyyyy well one welshie i was just thinking about you yesterday lol poo watch

Yes could be go idea to have brief update be easier to catch up with everyone.

trib sorry to hear about your bad nite, weve got noisey neighbours too, but since william has been born the mum tells the two teenage girls to be quiet their is a baby next door, think thats quite sweet, its funny how a baby calms the situation.

Well done Mr Coops thats great i love to be show of my hubby too when he makes me proud.

Well we had a great nite, i went to my ann summers meeting in Wetherby in a lovely hotel very posh lol, basically met the area manager and she did a presentation picked up some good ideas, and met some bubbly girls, and won the raffle yyyyyyyyy

Didnt get back till 11 30 though was absoultly shattered and william had been great for daddy
he had took two ful feeds had his bath, and setled down about 830, he then slept till 4 am has another feed slept til 7am so i feel better.

It looks to me like really they would like you to do at least 2 to 3 parties a week, and also parties can be passed onto you, only for now im sticking to one i dont want to leave m baby that much ya know.

have great morning mums xxxxxx

katzguk · 26/09/2005 09:46

summary thread sounds good but we must keep this one going!

looking foward to see everyone tomorrow!

so pleased others are starting the weaning i'm planning on starting on the 11th, this is the day after DD1's birthday and will be the first lunch at home for a week!! re weaming i was old not to add baby rice to the bottles as drinking is a different action to eating. we will start with the baby rice and then move onto annabel carmels book, it worked a treat for DD1 and she's eat pretty much anything now. including curry and chilli!!

well DD2 has lost her ability to sleep well, i think its because she needs more than my milk plus she has a horrible cough which means at least once a day her feeds have been bouncing, and they're full of mucus. DH wants me to take her to the GP but its just a cough/cold and she hasnt got a tmep and it still her normal sunny self.

glad to here that welshies DS finally pooed!

OP posts:
teabelly · 26/09/2005 11:07

Oh yes Katz - sorry I didn't make that clear - don't mix the rice in with the feed in the bottle - I put it in a tub and mixed in the milk, then fed with a spoon - hope I didn't confuse anyone

LipstickMum · 26/09/2005 12:15

'Ola

I went away for the w/e and you all chatted for England Monday's are so busy, but reading your posts is a top priority

lua · 26/09/2005 12:18

Morning all,

I missed alot of fun posts last night! Lol!

Welshie - Congrats on the poo, and many happy returns!

Trib - You put me to shame, we had a crying fest sat night and I felt bad for the poor old neighbor I have next door, but did not left the house...

regarding weaning, I just wanted to mention that it is okay to put rice on the bottle if your goals is to get a little more calories in a feed, say before sleep

lua · 26/09/2005 12:20

oh yes, I wanted to thank you for the links to the cubes. They do sound like a great idea!
What we did, was to pop all the cubes out of the tray once they were frozen and put on resealable frozen bag.
Has anyone actually used these cubes? I am just wondering how hard is to clean them... that was the hardest bit with the ice tray, i've found...

morning lynny hugssssss

I dont think a baby can sleep to much, i ws thinking that about william, im sure if shes happy and content and takes her feeds she will be fine.

I was worried about william because he just snacks doesnt really take a full feed with is 5 oz milk, but he is growing fine hes quite happy, and ive now changed my teats to number twos which has helped alot. I think babies take as much sleep as they need, and no tow days are the same, hope this helps hunny.

Hi lippy welcome back hope you had lovely break.

Im looking forwrard to meeting you tomoro katz lua and Jonah just hope i can work out stupid buggy.
lol ill be the one shouting at the buggy.

lua · 26/09/2005 13:35

Hey Lynny,

How many hours do you reckon she sleeps altogether? I think up to 16 h is considered "normal" (whatever that is...)

I think I would be concerned if her level of activity an d development seems overall slow... but if she is active and kicking around when she is awake, than just be happy!

Lynny-All babies are different but I dont think jess is sleeping too much.Ds also sleeps a fair amount and always kips in between feeds too. He's a bit grumpy today so I've made him an appointment at the doctors tonight. He's also been crying again today which isn't like him and pulling his right ear,so I've a feeling he has an ear infection.

Coop-well done to your dh.Thanks for the cube link-those ones are much better value than the ones i saw.

Welshie-yaaaaaaaay for your ds-he must be feeling a lot better now.

welshmum · 26/09/2005 14:13

Just a point on the cube tray thing. I used them for storing ebm in when I was using colief on ds early on and found that after a while they stopped clicking closed so there were a few leaks....

LipstickMum · 26/09/2005 14:39

Arrrgghhhhhh!!!

Ok, I couldn't keep up, keep track or anything!!!

Someone somewhere suggested we do some kind of summary..? Well, this was my weekend, "...went to Dorset, spent a fortune at a family hotel, sat on the beach in glorious sunshine both days. Children well-behaved, parents badly behaved ..."

Have managed to make notes on some things...

I always use disabled loos if parent changed is either busy or has no loo in it (why????)

Welshie - I love you being organised and militant on the bus, I bet the passangers were shell shocked. Congrats on pooo!!!!!

Charley - I hate shopping now, use mainly mail order online stuff. I only go to town if I have one child and leep it very simple. Also use end changing room and 'dont care' attitude. Often buy stuff without trying on and ask about 'returns policy' when I buy it. Also, you said you saw someone feeing their baby 8oz milk at a group thingy...? Wow. I don't reckon little dd2 has ever had more than 3 oz in one sitting! I'd be a bit scared if she downed 8oz, it seems like fecking masses I wait to be corrected.

I have given up expressing, laziness.

Coop - You're both awesome parents, what were you concerned about? not noticing the wee immediately it came out?? Give yourself a break, you're lovel.

I love the boots too, I want some of those and was told about "duo boots". HOwever, I can't find that style unless I go through your link, what's it called?? It's weird that I can't find it.

Rolling babies - dd1 never did it, dd2 isn't looking like she will either.

Trib - Sorry, but I was in hysterics at your description of Amber's routine compared to little Toby. It released a lot of tension here. Why do "other peoples children" always behave so well??? I'm sure it wasn't that bad!

Right, I'm back on track - sort of.

lummox · 26/09/2005 17:50

Summary from here: had a man come to put a new stove in and managed to attract old men from across the village who stood with their arms folded on our front wall staring all afternoon. Guess the telly in France really is as bad as they say.

bubaloo - ds has been doing exactly the same as you are describing - clutching at his right ear and being really grizzly. In our case it has been accompanied by Olympic-class dribbling and really furious fist sucking. Also slightly red gums, so we are pretty sure it is teething. Would be really interested in what the doctor says though, as we may be on completely the wrong track.

welshmum - congratulations. Am a bit embarrassed to say that ds (also breastfed) poos about 6/7 times per day. Which of the Junies got that elusive average baby, then?

tribpot and teabelly - you really make me laugh.

Cooperoo · 26/09/2005 17:53

'Ola
How are we all now? We are well but I seem to have had a busy day doing nothing!
Lippy - The boots are called Jerez. They are under casual and are pictured in black without the buckle here
I have ummed and ahhed for ages but think I will wear them ALOT if they fit as well as I hope. I think I will wear them with skirts and under jeans and with cropped trousers if I am feeling brave and trendy lol.
DH and I are having a serious discussion about our roles in the home tonight so I had better go for now. Enjoy the meet up.
Oh and thanks Lippy for the wee comment. As no-one had mentioned it I thought we must be very irresponsible parents .
Lynny - Sure sleeping is fine. All babies are different and as long as she is active inbetween enjoy it.
Byee

tribpot · 26/09/2005 18:30

lummox, have a vision of old French blokes wearing berets and smoking Gauloises and passing comment on crazy English people installing new stoves. Did they have a break for playing boules? (I like to combine all French stereotypes at once, at least I didn't suggest they were wearing strings of onions round their necks).

Coop, good luck with the discussion, I hope you don't get landed with the job of doing the triathlons in future

ds has survived his second round of jabs, thank goodness. Plenty of bellowing but annoyingly hasn't got a temperature so I can't justify administering even baby-sized painkillers, never mind liquid morphine. Oh well. And it would mix so much better in a feed than Infant Gaviscon as well.

tea - summer holidays. Did I mention some friends of mine are about to move to Barbados? (As you do). Hello holidays! Although I'm not keen on long haul flights myself, and suspect ds will be even less so.

Lippy, I'm afraid that was an accurate portrayal of Amber's routine compared to Toby's. Although Toby seems to have picked up "fabric sucking" from Amber, it's certainly his new thing. They were obviously having telepathic conversation during Amber's snoozefest and Toby's grumpfest.

Btw, KVG, or was it Jonah, one of you clog-wearing northern ladies, anyway (get these stereotypes in whilst they don't apply to me), I have a phone consult with welshie's Sleep Lady on Wednesday, will let you know how I get on.

Shall we have a go at a summary thread on Friday?
