Shiny new thread, as promised fellow FEBers!

Figured we would start another new one to mark first birthdays, bethlou, so I've held fire on referencing that landmark in this thread title - hope that's okay with y'all!

Anyway, welcome everybody, pull up a comfy chair, someone get the wine out and I'll open a huge box of chocolates for us all to share.

Oooh just seen this thread in Active convos, my DD was born 20 Feb.

Good to catch up with where everybody's at, my DD is a dream come true and continues to light up our lives every day. She sleeps 8pm til 8am and has done since as long ago as I can remember - thinking of having another soon, am I completely mental????

No teeth at all here - anyone else?
Back to work in 3 weeks, boooo.
Lovely to read about you all.

bearcrumble · 15/11/2010 19:49

We didn't have too bad a night last night. wakings at 3 and 6 and didn't get up til quater past 8.

I decided to make DS a treasure basket www.littleacornstomightyoaks.co.uk/Articles/Treasure%20basket.php (known to some on Mumsnet as a Wnaky Basket - someone lost in the mists of time misspelled wanky and it stuck) so I'm searching the house for things that aren't plastic and can't be broken/choked on by a baby. So far I have one chunky necklace, a leather coin purse, a little carving and a walnut. I am also (slightly crazily) bidding on a large antique key on Ebay because I really badly want it for the wnaky basket.

Hello new people!

Stresshead No, not mental at all. Mine is a crap sleeper (but still manages the lighting up the life business) and I still want another one.

LBH Glad she went down quickly tonight. It looks like it's working!

Scones So sorry about the rubbish pay-off.

I woke up with a really sore throat and feeling very ill today so DH took him until morning nap (he works from home) and my mum came round about 4 and cooked us our dinner. I think DS knew I was a bit under the weather as he behaved beautifully and played by himself really well anddid two lovely long naps (with me beside him as I needed to lie down as much as possible).

He's also just worked out how to get into a sitting position from prone. He is pulling himself up on absolutely everything as well.

His fifth tooth is coming through. His left hand eye tooth. I didn't know why they were called eye teeth until yesterday. Do you all know?

GuernseyFrench · 15/11/2010 19:51

Well done LB fingers crossed it's the start of something good

Welcome stress you're part of the rare few sleeping through babies Smile Not broody here yet but I think a few others are?

bearcrumble · 15/11/2010 19:54

Ah the treasure basket article says not to use keys as they can contain lead. I'm glad I've been outbid.

GuernseyFrench · 15/11/2010 19:59

bc thanks for tge link. DS nursery has baskets like this with wooden objects or metalic stuff.

DS teeth have started to cut the gum. At the present it looks like 3 and 4 will be there by tomorrow.

LittlebearH · 15/11/2010 20:01

BC what a nice idea...may have a go at something like that. I am sick of all the plastic toys!! DD likes to rub her face in our sheepskin rug and loves the feel of my make up brushes. (especially on her feet!)

What about a peacock feather??

Cant beleive your DS has 5 teeth! DD has 1 although I think second is on it's way.

Hope you are feeling better.

stoofadoof · 15/11/2010 20:08

I dunno, spend a couple of nights on a job application and i have acres of posts to catch up on!

just marking really? off to bed now? DS back to getting up at half-past stupid after taunting us with 4 mornings of sleeping til 6am last week?.

CC hope you've sorted the tosspot out! Been thinking bout you the last couple of days.

welcome returners and newbies!

teeth 9 and 10 still on their way through and seem to be bothering more than the rest so far.

took DD to a softplay birthday party yesterday where the bday boy pushed her backwards down the stairs when she went up to give him a hug and say happy birthday? little sod?

must go? more soon xx

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/11/2010 20:18

Grin LBH! Fingers crossed you've turned the corner! I remember how I felt when DD finally allowed me to put her in her cot awake without any protesting and went to sleep by herself. FANFUCKINGTASTIC!!!! Here's hoping you get that same euphoria soon...

Wotcher stress!!! I'm not surprised you're up for another one.... I am also, despite the iffy sleep...

Speaking of which, a technical "sleep-through" last night - which meant the two wake-ups happened as usual, but one was before midnight and the other just after 05.00. So felt like business as usual, really. Especially as the first was a long re-settle involving me and the second a long re-settle involving lots of fidgeting (but not protesting). Still, not a bad night, though! Shame I had a bit of insomnia....

Treasure baskets, yes - lovely idea! A friend of mine mentioned these a while back. I will resurrect the idea now, especially as DD's older and more likely to appreciate them now.

G'night Smile

Met a friend for lunch who is due any day now. Brought back lots of memories and I have been sniggering/scowling to myself all afternoon. Clearly remember dh complaining about too many of dd1's toys on the floor... I just gave him a look saying 'What's your point?'. There was me, heavily pregnant and quite unable to bend over to pick things up, not to mention the excruciating heartburn if I tried... Anyway, happy memories Grin
Having two is fab by the way, for those of you contemplating it!! And was it bear who had ivf first time? I second IC's thoughts... you may surprise yourself second time round! I had a lot of trouble having dd1 and had IUI in the end. Much more straightforward with dd2 (just some progesterone to support things) because my body seemed to think 'oh, hang on, I know what this is about!!' Grin Good luck to all of you thinking about the next dc ...

ClimberChick · 15/11/2010 21:06

thanks stoof I managed to start pitying him, which is helping. My work laptop is current being sent in for data recovery, so I can't do much atm (well that's my excuse Grin)

I'm another Aquarius (I am relieved that DD isn't one given how stubborn I can be). Great B'days we had last year hey.

Hi Stress still no teeth here either, but we've had no teething symptoms are ages so some good.

I think DD is close to walking. She can stand for ages (if she wants to) and took just 1 step a few times yesterday. Of course today she has no interest what-so-ever.

great news LB hope it keeps up and bc good to hear your family are rallying. Hope you feel better soon

AbsB · 15/11/2010 21:08

Hello everyone... I'm afraid I've had rather a bad day involving my stupid bloody dog and some sheep! Please don't ask... but let's just say I'm still not out of the woods yet (nor is he). Anyway, the good news is the sheep are fine but fingers crossed he doesn't have to be put down. Confused

Hello Stress... I remember your LO was born on my birthday. Pisces like me, and my DD! I'm really broody too... something to do with reaching 38 next Feb and I just love babies!!!

Stoof your poor DD, that's so sad! Poor little mite. Sad

IC loved your vid. How cute Rosie is!

Glad your LO went down quickly tonight Littlebear, I really hope you've turned a corner.

Well, our last few nights haven't been too bad. She's been up between 12.30 and 2 and straight into bed with me. She's funny though, she's started crawling onto my chest and finding my nipples... buffet style! I don't even need to change position, she just helps herself. Grin

Hello Extremelychocolateymilkroll and welcome Phew! Smile

Good night everyone.

AbsB · 15/11/2010 21:12

Hi CC Glad it's getting better at work. Pitying him is the right way to go about it! Anyway big wave and a hug from me. Grin

ClimberChick · 16/11/2010 05:28

DD won't oblige getting a video of peek-a-boo but I did catch these. I couldn't resist showing them off to you Blush. I got the inspiration for the second one from you IC

ClimberChick · 16/11/2010 05:35

hope you've recovered from your shock

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/11/2010 07:19

CC, awwwwwwwww...!!
DD and I LOVED your clips of your DD. The kissing one is especially cute!

More vids, everyone please! (Those who have the available technology...)

Thanks for the compliments, too everyone

Oopsie, Abs - chasing sheep? Fingers crossed your dog gets off lightly...

A 7-hour stretch of sleep last night - first wake-up at 02.30, pretty good! She then woke up at 06.00 and didn't really re-settle, but although I prefer a 07.00 start, I can't really complain...

How did last night pan out, LBH?

LittlebearH · 16/11/2010 07:51

Hi all

BG dont know about a baby no.2...never say never. I was reading a thread about how different 2nd labours are. Much easier by all accounts though. My best friend is due Boxing Day and she had to have a little help too.

Abs Hope your naughty dog is ok.

CC Soooo cute! Looks a very happy little girl!

Well last night....

Down at 6.50pm and cried until only 7.15pm!!!!
Woke herself back up at 7.30pm by coughing
:( but was asleep again by 7.45pm

Not a peep until 4.25am!! Cried until falling back asleep at 5.05am

Woke at 6.05am and up for the day!

I am going to attempt CC for her 9am nap...

Hope I am not pushing it.

Was a bit worried as she only took 4 oz of milk all day yesterday but she has taken 4oz this morning so baby club rather than drs I think!

AbsB · 16/11/2010 07:52

Morning IC...umm, wish it had only been chasing. Unfortunately it was much worse than that! He grabbed two rare-breed sheep by the throat Angry and injured one of them quite badly. I was with DD in the pram, thank GOD my mum was there to look after her while I ran through fields chasing after him, calling RSPCA, farmers, general mayhem. Luckily the sheep are alright and I'm footing a rather large medical bill. From now on he has to be muzzled and I'm waiting for a letter sending him to the gallows... Sad

Love all the vids! I still haven't figured out how to post a pic/vid of my DD. I know it's been explained before but I just didn't have time to read it!

Off to walk the dogs scrape ice off the car (in London)... it's FREEZING Shock

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/11/2010 08:14

Excellent progress, LBH!! Hopefully it won't take too many more nights now...

Be warned, though - naps can be a lot tougher, they don't have the "biological imperative" to sleep, so can cry on and on without actually napping at all...

Also, a different part of the brain governs naps, apparently, so "bad habits" at nap-time shouldn't be translated to bedtime bad habits.

You might be better advised to get the nights completely cracked for a while and then tackle naps.

Your decision, of course! Just passing on what I've learned from AngelDog and the other nap experts over on the Sleep forum.... Smile

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I know what you mean...but I thought if I put her down now she may go off by 9am. If not I may assist her.

bearcrumble · 16/11/2010 08:55

AbsB Argh - that must have been nasty. So sorry - I hope that your dog gets off.

Not a bad night - but it seems like he always ends up in our room halfway through the night. Didn't wake at all between 7 and midnight. One feed then wouldn't settle in cot - ended up in pram in our room but slept until 7.15.

The fucking cat jumped up on the counter in the kitchen and fished a chicken thigh out of the pot of soup that my mum came over to make. I was half furious and half laughing. I don't fancy the rest of the pot somehow...

I'm feeling a lot better today thanks.

Stoof Your poor little girl. It's so horrible when that sort of thing happens.

We cancelled Sky but they offered it to us again at half price and £50 of M+S vouchers - so it's back. I caught an episode of the Baby whisperer yesterday and it really scared me. There was a little boy of nearly two who refused to eat and refused to sleep anywhere except his parents bed and if he didn't get his own way on anything would start headbutting the nearest hard thing. She did cure him though - you have to be very patient and consistent and I've not proved to be either of those things I don't think.

Those with older DCs - is is a lot harder to parent a toddler or just different?

LBH Sounds like an even better night. I agree with IC about naps. They are a different beast. I have never successfully done CC for a nap.

CC Glad there is progress on the work front. I love the videos. She is so very cute. We discovered the other day that DS finds sneezing and pretend sneezing v. funny too. Do all babies?

SconesForTea · 16/11/2010 12:52

I don't know about sneezing, but whenever I blow my nose (fairly often as have a cold at the mo) DD bursts into tears. So I am desperately trying to remember to move into another room before blowing (although moving into another room is now suddenly out of favour too and can also bring tears Confused).

Hi to everyone. I am so tired today, I can't remember many individual posts, sorry and I can hear that DD is waking up so my time to go back and re-read is limited. Nonexistant, in fact.

CC I love the kissing video. I am trying to teach DD to kiss, no progress yet. Your DD is incredibly cute and I adore her dress in the second video Smile.

Abs how awful about your dog Sad. Everything crossed he doesn't have to be put down. I'm not a dog person, but DH has a dog and so I do too, I suppose, and he ran off and bothered some sheep a few months ago. Luckily didn't catch any. We were both very shaken. He needs to go to obedience school really but I just don't know how to fit it all in to the weekends what with DH's bloody hockey too. Anyone else's DP spend half to all of one weekend day amusing themselves? Angry

LBH it sounds like you are really making progress. Best of luck.

I am feeling broody too, I have been for a while. First I wanted to get our wedding out of the way, then I wanted to hear what hours I'd be working Hmm. In any case, no periods as yet. Mind you I took a test yesterday. I've been feeling so hungry lately, and also have had really bad wind Blush and hunger and wind were about the only early pregnancy symptoms I had. Of course I'm not. I don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed.

LittlebearH · 16/11/2010 19:42

Me again!!

Asleep in 4 minutes!!!

BC DD does fake coughs and closes her eyes. Very amusing!

Abs Any news on your naughty doggy? Hope all ok.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/11/2010 20:14

Wow, LBH!!! Grin

IC I know!! I want to jump up and down (quietly though not to wake her!!)

Me and DP have had a hug...for 1st time in ages!!

We looked at each other and at the monitor in utter disbelief!

How are your nights going??
