Rubena · 11/11/2010 12:03

little bit cry-y/fists in mouth Vag. Slept 7pm-3am with Calprofen and Bonjela then up every hour but managed to settle again if I left her. Lady DS didn't really start until about 7 months Confused
This weather is horrible.
I think I've decided I will go to that wedding in NZ and also visit my family. My logic is, if I wait until ds is at a more managable age to take on a lengthy plane ride, by that time dd will be at the wrong age!!! therefore that would mean i'd never go home - and of course that won't be the case, so I'm probably better to kill two birds with one stone and go when I've at least got the wedding to go to? Make sense?

Nolda · 11/11/2010 12:07

Hiya, LadyT, I'm here. I've been lurking a little bit but don't seem to be able to keep up to date.

There follows stream of consciousness ramblings. Apologies if I've missed anything:

Urbane - thinking of you and sending sticky vibes your way.

PD, we went to Tenerife last winter on a scrounger holiday with MIL. I was a bit Hmm but the kiddies loved it. Good news about your new job.

Veggie - glad to hear DS1 is doing so well at school. You must be very proud. I have DD's first parents evening today. It'll be interesting to hear what the teacher has to say about her as DD says her favourite bits about school are PE and playtime!

I've been enjoying the spinning and table runner chat. Rubena, please keep on posting as usual, I love reading about what you're up to even though I may not respond. As you know, I don't say a lot anyway so it's nothing personal!

I would love to do secret santa. My DH would be great at organizing but don't think he has a window until christmas 2015!

Sybil - that is so sweet of your DD. Ahh!

Missed the bit about Avo's arse but would like to say that I think you're lovely, Avo.

Jam - well done on the christmas shopping. I've done DS's birthday and christmas but no one else's. Am thinking about getting DH a tv for bedroom with my Tesco vouchers. Does everyone else work apart from me? If you are a SAHM, do you feel strange buying presents for your DH with his money?

Got to go and cook some lunch, see you later.

JamInMyWellies · 11/11/2010 14:01

Urbane hope all is ok.

JollyBear · 11/11/2010 14:12

Hello peeps,

Sorry I've not been on for a while, just been silly busy and shattered! Can't stop for long either or do a proper catch up but wanted to say hello.

urbane Wow congrats. Sorry to hear about the bleeding. Hope things settle down. I bled with both DD and the future DC. Tis very scary but not always a bad sign.

Secret Santa, ooh count me in please. My DH is not up to the task of organising though. DD would do a better job!

I'll have to go, sorry not to say hello to everyone. Love to all!

MomOrMum · 11/11/2010 14:14

Urbane - Thinking of you and hoping things are okay.

I have a work-related question for anyone who might know a midwife/midwives in Oxfordshire. The media team here is looking for an Oxfordshire-based midwife who would be interested in going on a trip to visit some of our health programmes in developing countries (maybe Nigeria or Sierra Leone) to talk to midwives/health professionals there and recount their experience once back in the UK. Long shot, but if anyone knows anyone it could be a great opportunity!

VagolaJahooli · 11/11/2010 14:27

Mom I know some who would but not from oxfordshire.

Rubes DS1 started teething at 8 weeks for sure. He would naw on anything and it always settled with those Ashtons powders. As far as I can see if it settles with bonjella it must be teething. It doesn't mean teeth will be early, DS1's first tooth came out at 10 months it just means they are growing.

I've booked a family free night in Antwerp, I'm going to go down on Friday the 17th Dec then DH & the boys will join me in the afternoon of the 18th we'll stay another night then go into Calais to catch the boat over to UK. Hooray!

Lady I think you should think about visiting your Antwerp friend Wink

sybilfaulty · 11/11/2010 14:28

Thinking of you lovely Urbane. I bled with Lucy at the start, but all was well. Fingers crossed. Lots of love

MomOrMum · 11/11/2010 14:37

Thanks Veg/Vag, but for reasons I don't really understand the Oxfordshire bit is important!

MomOrMum · 11/11/2010 14:56

While I'm on work posts, Avo did you work on a joint comm. back in '09 about hum rts and the uk priv sec (a bit cryptic, but to avoid this coming up on google with the full name!)? I thought I recognised your name on it, but could be way off.

waitinggirl · 11/11/2010 15:18

thinking of you, urbs. let us know how you are doing. x

Beans33 · 11/11/2010 15:58

Hi all

Urbane - fingers crossed. Big hug.

I am feeling exhausted after dinner party for 8 last night. V good fun, but I drank a bit too much and am now feeling a bit fuzzy round the edges!

Right, DD2 stirring from kip, must go and get her. GAH. Can't be arsed!

poisondwarf · 11/11/2010 15:58

Oh dear. Have watched the Apprentice and half of a film. And it appears to be wine & chocolate o'clock already. I am going to get the sack if I carry on like this Grin.

Hiya Nolda - what's a scrounger holiday (or shouldn't I ask)?

Your family free night sounds good Vag. I am waiting till I stop bf (well as long as she stops before she's 4 or something) then I am going to spend a weekend face down in a gutter somewhere (I'll send you a postcard Avo Grin).

Rubena · 11/11/2010 16:33

Grin PD! Classic. Pack me in your suitcase.
it may well be wine and ds's mini cheddars o'clock here.
it's been baby channel-tastic here all day Blush but I'm knackered, and this weather sucks
Hi Nolda, that's very kind. I do need to rein it in a little as I know I've either bored people or upset people at times but I won't disappear!

SummerLightning · 11/11/2010 16:47

Boring day here too. Ds is under the weather not sure what is wrong but lots of yelling in the night which is unusual and he is not eating and not very lively at all. Just wants to sit on my lap and watch endless old Thomas the tank engine shows. Dull. Fortunately he has decided to watch tv on his own now. Can't wait till he's betteer as hate being stuck in! We did make it to the supermarket - i was hoping to be out by 11 but sadly not so they both made an embarrassing racket through the 2 mins silence.

Rubes don't shut up! A bit of ramlbking is good for the soul.

Oh spot on the pool thing i had a pool first time round obviously never got to use it but sorry i sold it on eBay. You could try buying off there as there are loads of unused ones where people have ended up with c-sections, etc! I think mine sold for loads less than what i paid for it! It was from birth pool in a box.

Urbane hope things are ok.

SummerLightning · 11/11/2010 16:52

Oh and sad geek alert but if it's easier i can sort the secrret santa thing by writing random names to text files and sending them out to people like that so that i don't see who gets who if you see what i mean? I have done it before for another secret Santa!

Or there is a website where you can do it but you have to put your email addresses in and it would depend on if we trusted it not to spam us.

Avocadoes · 11/11/2010 18:22

Just catching up and wanted to send Utbane all me best wishes. I hope the bleeding is just "one of those things" and not a sign of complications. Fingers crossed for you.

And yes MoM, I worked on that committee report! Well spotted. I didn't write it though. I have to make that clear as I think it's a really, really badly drafted report. Interesting subject though. Why are you reading it???

PD, I have been thinking about solutions to yr holiday needs that wouldn't cost the earth (see, I can learn new tricks!). What about Northern Cyprus? It's much cheaper than Greek Cyprus anyway but moreso than ever as it's out of the Euro zone. Also it has some fab beaches & yummy Turkish food. You cld get flights to Grrek Cyprus and then cross the border.

JamInMyWellies · 11/11/2010 18:29

Have just tuned my radio into radio4 for the first time ever!

EffiePerine · 11/11/2010 18:59

Rubes: you have never bored or upset me and I can't think of anyone else who has been peeved either. I like that we are comfy enough with each other to disagree without it being a huge issue with flounces an all.

sybilfaulty · 11/11/2010 19:24

Rubacious - don't even think of reining it in! I love reading what you have been up to. It makes me feel connected (anyone with a 3 year old girl who has a Barbie fixation will be humming the song now....)

Avo - I cannot see how you could possibly offend. I always think your posts are very well considered. I expect that's why our thread is still going strong as we are mature enough to accept that there are many versions of what is right.

BTW, I love it that our thread is still so active. I feel very proud when I read a title saying "March 2010 - our first tooth" or whatever and realise that how much we all post (some more than others!!!). I think it shows we are still very much friends first and contributors to a forum second as we are keeping the thread going daily. My last PN thread was in its dying throes once the babies were one, let alone 2!

Off out to a friend#s tonight. Babysitter already here. Yippee!

sybilfaulty · 11/11/2010 19:26

Anyone with a daughter - you too may find yourself ensconced in

Have to say, I'm rather a fan! And there's Brahms in it towards the end of the film.

VagolaJahooli · 11/11/2010 19:38

Rubes how could you ever offend anyone on here, maybe in RL with your penchant for table clothing and carpet cleaning obsession. But not on here.

well I had to cancel Antwerp booking as the hotel couldn't accommodate the kids for the 2nd night in our room so I'd have to get a bigger room or 2nd room. so instead I'm going to go just after my birthday but DH has just suggested I go for 2 nights. I'm a little nervous but I know I should just do it. He won't combust from not have BF for 2 days and I.won't dry up & Kiwi did it for a week and kiwitot survived so I should just do it shouldn't I.

PinguRocks · 11/11/2010 19:42

Just popping on quickly while I have a sickly DD sleeping on me!
spot/ vag I will be in Derby first weekend of Dec so could probably bring birth pool to London. I am well up for meet ups (wherever they may be) but only don't work Mondays.
Congrats to urbane and fingers crossed.... Congrats on the new jobs too people ( zj pd ?)
loving the table runner talk. One day I hope to have an actual dining table and will go to town on all the trimmings. Speaking of which, we have definitely decided to move out of the middle of town and are trying to come up with a workable plan of how we can manage it before DD starts school!
If anyone is thinking of getting their DD (I'm not being stereotypical it's just that they're pastel pink!) a kitchen cost co have the kidkraft ones for £83. We have got DD one for birthday/Christmas and it's fab!
Am going to post now cos on phone but will hopefully be back later since I'm pinned to the sofa.
Sorry have been a bit rambly - figured I'd try giving Rubes a run for her money. oh and yes please to secret santa for me.

Rubena · 11/11/2010 20:34

Awww you lot are nice. I have a big mouth and don't mince my words at times Hmm and I know that, so I truly hope I don't offend. I can take it as good as I dish it though.
Vag so funny you said that about cleaning. I just got waaaaay over excited about getting a new Dyson as they will take your old one for £60 and they have a new Dog grooming Vacuum attachment!!! I begged dh via text if I could have one Grin The dog is shedding like mad and I have a real obsession with vaccing up her hair about 10 times a day as it grosses me out.
can I just say I LOVE my neighbour. She just knocked on the door saying this is very embarrasing but we've just got home from holidays and have no wine - and did I have any! - Well clearly we were out, and I had just texeted dh to bring home dd's milk and wine on his way home but he hadn't left yet so she INSISTED on going to the shop and getting me some. Would you believe we've lived here well over a year and have never been over to each others house but having been saying for a year we should get together! I'm very Blush and must make an effort as she is lovely. then dd kicked off (as the dog had barked when the doorbell rang) and my neighbour hugged me, said I must be tired and told me to go inside and have a big glass of wine Grin well, you don't have to tell me twice!
I'm so crap, but I'm more shy than crap I think. Anyway, I just wanted to share that story of genuine human kindness even if it is me rambling [again!]
vag can't you just sneak the kids in for night 2?
Sybs enjoy your night.

LadyThompson · 11/11/2010 20:35

uRRRGH I really do feel dowdy again today. I will continue to do so until I lose weight. That might mean knocking the cheerfulness on the head. Not that I drink loads. And ditching the carbs. I've got a Christmas party (well actually I've got a couple, get me) and I want to look nice for the one that's in almost exactly a month. Hmm. Wonder how much weight I can realistically lose in that time...

Effie, I am not sure about those days yet. 25th Nov is out for me though as it's O's birthday.

Rubes, I think that sounds like good logic re: the trip. Also, it's something to look forward to at a boring time of year.

Nolda, I think that sounds like a nice present. Anyway, it's not HIS money...it's your shared money. In my humble opinion.

Mom, despite being Oxfordshire based I don't know any midwives in the county apart from the hellhound who visited me after DD2 was born. Sorry, it sounds like a great opportunity for someone. If you are really stuck I could ask a couple of acquaintances who delivered at the JR if they know anyone?

Jam - so you are no longer a R4 virgin! How was it for you? Grin If you were listening to BE I need to listen on listen again (and I will definitely be doing so).

Pingu - ooh, I forget where you are based (you are SE London I think?) - where are you moving to do you reckon?

Rubena · 11/11/2010 20:37

Oh Hi Pingu - and no way - not even close to my ramblings.... I'm really making an effort these days to not ramble, but there's a bloody good chance I'm not capable of NOT rambling.... case in point.
if any of you met my mum you's understand.

Who is up for Winter Wonderland Hyde Park? (sorry northerners - wish you were here)
