OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EffiePerine · 09/11/2010 08:42

I know, I know. I will end up as a barking old twirly with a junk shop Grin.

Urbane: great news! And Avo: yes, def go for it. I occasionally think about three but I'm with Rubes in worrying that my attention is spread thin as it is. I love having two though.

I am NOT discussing anything Christmassy yet! We haven't even decided what we're doing for Christmas. So disorganised. And our table is a cheapo battered one that sometimes gets a bit of red gingham thrown on it for a cloth. Model housewife I am not.

Lady: is D all legal now?

Veggie: DS2 is tantrumming away too. He's obsessed with drawing at the moment and insists on taking paper and pencils to bed with him. Odd child.

Avocadoes · 09/11/2010 08:43

Dammit. Was meant to be at work at 8am but slept through alarm and then had to rush like a mad thing which made DD2 cry and repeatedly wail "Mummy no go work" Sad. Now I am on a painfully slow Tube train.

Thanks for reminding me about Effie's spinning wheel Deids. I am 100% sure that's what had WG chuckling. Effie do you know how to spin??? I bet yr boys will love it as spinning wheels feature in so many fairy tales.

Not 100% decided Deidre but 95%. whatever happens I will wait until Feb to try as we now plan to move in Jan and DD1 starts reception proper in Jan.

Join the TTC club Jam! It sounds like you are tempted. Could your DH be persuaded?

EffiePerine · 09/11/2010 08:44

And the mystery of Urbane's cross stitch kit is now revealed!

MomOrMum · 09/11/2010 09:51

Congrats Urbane! How exciting and what better kind of surprise??

Lady - Thinking of you and the anniversary of your DH's passing. Hoping the littlies behaved themselves and let you enjoy your bubbly!

Table runners....I'm in the club. Just plain white linen though, no fancy LED lights. I use them about once a year and curse every time because they require much laundering and stain removal.

WG Might you have been laughing about either the spinning wheel or putting pork in the oven? Both had me in stitches.

I had my 20 week scan (at 23 weeks Hmm) on Thursday and it was the best scan I've ever had. The sonographer was amazing, so chatty and proclaimed my unborn DC the best behaved baby of the day. Grin I now have my hopes up that this one will be a perfect little sleeper and not one bit naughty like DS. Come on, it could happen!

Bad nights and teeth here too. Bloody knackered and my DH is away for 2 weeks. Luckily my parents are here and amazing help in the day, but not so much at night or first thing (fair enough). My Dad is in the process of installing an outdoor utility room with a TUMBLE DRYER in the garden. Not sure I've ever been more excited.

Avo - Go for it! You have to fill up your nice new big house!

Rubena · 09/11/2010 10:10

Sybs that was quite late to be putting pork in? But funny Grin

Mom great news on the scan. Are you not finding out the sex? Big cheer for your Dad! Don't know how I'd cope without dryer and 2 littles, and I don't even use reusable nappies Blush Will you eventually have a 3rd? Glad you're in the table runner club too. Quite a few of us are so I don't feel too dorky - well next to Effie's spinning wheel it would be difficult to appear that way over table linen Grin

Avo very exciting for new year conceiving! maybe you'll have a boy and can use that name you love which I can't remember.

Jam, we are going on the 8th so I'll let you know how Santa is and the train Grin

How did the evening progress Lady? Hope it was nice and the girls settled down.

Veggiemummy · 09/11/2010 10:37

I don't know what I'm more excited about, Urbanes cheeky pregnancy or Moms utility room!

Rubes I have staunchly refused a tumble dryer but I have to say even I am starting to cave. The thought of another winter with washing all over the house taking days to dry is too much. And I don't think this dodgy old heating system is up to it. It's not the nappies so much its everything. I'm sure DS2 goes through more changes of clothes a day than nappies. I think someone should come up with biodegradeable disposable clothes. It would have to be better for the environment than doing all this washing.

DS2 slept much better, thanks for asking. He still woke at 4 ish but I managed to get him back to sleep then he had his morning feed at 6 then I had to wake him at 7.30 as DH is in Amsterdam so I took both boys on school run. As DH had to get up early he slept in with DS1. I have to admit I find it a lot easier to deal with the waking if DH isn't there. I think I worry about waking him up.

Right I need to go and have coffee. DS2 & I went straight from school to the little farm and then to the pool he has just gone off to sleep so I need coffee and food.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 11:05

yes but you are in a completely different league than me Vag. I would expect you to manage without a tumble dryer! Agree re the clothes - ds puts more food on his clothes than in his mouth these days. I'm thinking about just cranking up the heat and letting them run around nude at home Grin
Hope ds's teeth settle soon so you can get rest. When are you off back to the motherland by the way?

I feel like it's never ending house work this morningConfused

My entries are very boring aren't they. I feel I just waste space on the thread sometimes. Sorry folks.

LadyThompson · 09/11/2010 11:35

Fabulous ladies

I got back quite late last night and have just been through the read for my catch up but oh my! Before I start it I just have to send big love and party poppers to Urbane! Wow! Many congrats! I am also slightly Shock that it happened when you were on the Pill, having had the contraception chat at my 6 wk check yesterday and deciding it's between the Pill and the Mirena coil...But I am so excited for you.

Again, thank you for your warm wishes about DH, you are all so kind. We registered little D yesterday and I couldn't decide whether it was fortunate or unfortunate that it was five years to the day that I had registered DH's death, but you know, one has to be brave and LIVE LIFE, that was very much DH's philosophy and if it doesn't sound too cheesy it inspires me every day.

Loving the table runner talk Grin And Effie's spinning wheel - brilliant. What's next - mangle? A churn? Grin Seriously though, anything creative like that is an ace use of time in my opinion.

I don't have a table runner but I do now have a TABLE, cos I bought a knackered farmhouse table on Sunday...And Rubes, we will have an open fire in the living room and a wood burner in the kitchen, and the idea of both terrify the life out of me with the girls tbh...

Right, have BIG catch up to write but need to sort myself and girls out first. Beans, I hope you are warmer.

Veggiemummy · 09/11/2010 11:55

Oh Iv'e been meaning to comment on the open fire thing (sorry Rubes wasn't ignoring it). We dont have a open fire BUT as a child we had an open fire and had a big grill fence thing around it. To tell you the truth I think kids work out pretty quick that at a certain distance it's nice but a bit closer it uncomfortable. Statistically kids are more likely to get burned to the point of needing treatment by scalding rather than by fire. I worked in a burns unit for a while and even in winter we never got kids in with burns from an open fire. If your really worried get one of those segmented babydan playpen things with the gate and put it in a semicircle around the fire.

Speaking of open fires. Flippin eck its blurry cold.

Pubie you made me laugh when you said you expected me not to have a tumble dryer, I do wonder how I come across on here. I think a little more capable than i am. I think it's also time to change my name. When i go on the wider MN i come across as hippy vegetarian mother (or braindead mother). I'm thinking vagola with a whimsical surname added. So Vagola(somethingfunnysounding).

Lady I'm amazed you were able to go to the registering place on that day. Your a very strong women, I know you don't think so but that would ave been too much for me.

I'm also a little embarrassed that your DD2 is 6 weeks old and i STILL haven't sent her present, I think it might be too small now so I'm going to keep it to send to someone else who has a girl baby and get her something bigger.

Avo here is the place we are offering on. Still haven't heard back from our boy which is a worry though he did say he was flat out at the moment as their secretary is off and someone is on holidays.

Right boywonder is up

VagolaJahooli · 09/11/2010 12:04

there...done. I realise it's not that funny, it's a nod to the mighty boosh.

oh and Rubes who knows when we are going home, hoping to visit next year sometime. Just waiting for BIL to sort out his wedding date.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 12:21

Oh thanks Lady and Vagola, I was starting to think I need to just stop talking about myself.
Lady i completely forgot about your numerous fireplaces! And Vag, you are right, I can imagine toddlers would more easily get burnt by scalds rather than danger they can actually see. We will still get a uote on how much the woodburner will be, as if we have to have liners done and lots of work on the chimney it will be a no go, and we will just do the open fire and get a very good quality spark guard.

Lady, I think your DH will be looking on and feel happy that you have registered dd on that date. Almost like handing on the baton. I think it's fortunate.

I really like that apartment Vagola

Rubena · 09/11/2010 12:23

Vag, crossed with your new name post! Very creative! Grin

Does anyone have Urbane's email address? She hasn't been on FB since Aug so I'm guessing that won't work!
Urbane, if you are lurking check your FB inbox.

LadyThompson · 09/11/2010 12:24

Super exciting about the house, Veg. Vagola! That is reassuring, what you said about the fire... And we love the Boosh here. I haven't watched the final episode of Downton Abbey yet, I know DB is a big fan. I am also watching The Trip, the Steve Coogan/Rob Brydon thing which is very low key but I like it a lot.

Right, I do hope Kiwi is ok after yesterday. How did it pass off, Kiwi?

ZJ, that is very good news indeed about your job, I bet you're delighted. And your week with friends and weekend with the girls both sound absolutely lovely. I was with friends this weekend which was smashing, but with the girls I did feel a bit like I was just snatching conversation.

Jam (and Rubes) I am a big sucker for grottos and so on. Will be taking DD1 to as many as poss as I like to heap the Christmas experience on quite thick Grin No Christmas element is too much or too tacky for me. We've already watched The Snowman

Avo, so you are decided about DC3? How exciting. I have missed out on the anticipation of planning a pregnancy as it was a surprise both times. I am very interested in all this talk of DC3s. I was so decided at sticking at two - Rubes, I think you put it beautifully when you said that you feel your parenting would be spread too thin with three. That is how I feel, in a nutshell. Parenting mainly, but also money, space, and not just time for the other two but time for me. I don't enjoy pregnancy and the recovery from the birth this time has been hard, emotionally and physically. DP wants more but will do what I want. But - having said all the above, I love kids so much and do very much see the appeal of having a bigger family. And can't bear the thought that DD2 is my last baby. But I guess they aren't compelling reasons. My consultant isn't a fan of more than two sections either. It was hard to say goodbye to her yesterday! She wants me to drop in from time to time, which is really nice.

JJ - that is good news and really very cute that your DD2 simply has a big tum Grin

And Mom - good news for you too. 20 wk scans are so much more enjoyable than the 12 wk ones, I think - less of a stress. Crumbs, your Dad is handy! DP is planning to build a big shed at the back of the garden. He is already talking about how it's going to be full of cds and his guitars and the amp. In fact, he has bought a huge antique sign which says 'Gentlemen' on it and apparently this is for the non-existent shed Grin Fine by me. I am quite happy for him to deafen the sheep in the adjoining field.

Right, Operation Get Out of my Pyjamas.

LadyThompson · 09/11/2010 12:32

Ooh, I want to see the new layout of your house, Rubes. I only had one glass of champagne yesterday, but this was only because the DDs were so hectic! I was hoping for a spot of tawny port as well but we had to leg it over the road to Marylebone Reg. Office as it was Grin I keep looking at DD2's birth certificate, it amazes me that I have two lovely children.

DD1 has picked up her handbag and put on her hat and is calling "Later!" She is too funny. The cab driver sneezed yesterday and she said "Bless you, bloke!" But her rages get more and more operatic every day.

Oh yikes, DD2 is crying again. More later, very probably, though I do have to go to the house as DP is finishing early.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 12:45

Lady, you said "I was so decided on sticking at two" - does that mean you are not decided anymore since you said "was" rather than "am"? I would like the idea of having had many kids once I am old and wanting lot's of family around me, but also, it isn't a good enough reason for me. Even if I didn't go back to work, I still feel I couldn't give enough time to 3 right now as well as the rest of the things I want to do, and time with dh etc, and then there's the time dh has to spend with a 3rd little would just be next to none. I do admire those who can and want to / do have more though. yes i think we wouldn't be human if we didn't feel a slight sadness to never have a newborn of our own again, but then that would be the case everytime, and then where would you draw the line Grin

Gosh i'm already tired of this cold cold weather. I need to rustle up the energy to walk to the shop and post a package but I just can't. it was a struggle to get dressed and then fight with ds to get him dressed. He's going for a nap in a minute....

Rubena · 09/11/2010 12:49

Lady - that is so funny of your dd1! How is her eating! her speech is running rings around my ds... all he says is "no don't" and "oh no" continuously Hmm he is still in such a good mood though (until the time he needs a nappy change or to get dressed) then he melts down momentarily....
I literally just swapped the 2 front rooms around Lady. Still can't get used to it and feel a little bit closed in. but loving the new position of the dining table. Oh and well done on the table for your house too! Sounds like it's all coming together!

LadyThompson · 09/11/2010 13:27

Well Rubes, as you know I was indeed VERY stuck at the idea of two for all the sensible reasons above, and will very likely stick at two, especially given all the practicalities and the point that my reasons in favour are vague and whimsical at best. Heavens, there are MEDICAL reasons why it would be daft - a) I am 38 and b) I honestly think another section would be even more problematic for me. Oh, and DD1's eating is dire again. Except when it comes to chips, chocolate and ice cream. That is lovely that your DS is in a good mood, though. I would love that Hmm Still stuff to do on the house but we battle on!

EffiePerine · 09/11/2010 13:37

Rubes: we have an open fire and haven't found it a problem. We have a spark guard plus a large fire guard - one of the boxy ones which is attached to the wall. It is an immense improvement to our lives in the winter - this house is draughty and hard to heat.

How cold is it today? Brrrrrr. Fed up of being rained on.

Vag (like the name) yes I can spin but only on a spindle (I.e. a stick) so the wheel is a bit of a gamble.

I remember my nana having a mangle! Horrible things. And I not as bad as someone I met this week who has bought several alpaca Grin.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 13:39

Well Lady, until you decide on your number of offsprings, you'd better be veeeeeery careful! We all know you just have to rub shoulders with dp and you wind up clackered! Grin yes they do advise only 2 sections to be safe. When my consultant was in there rumaging around she said "all looks good if you wanted a 3rd" Hmm Cheers love, but I'm not really tbh!
They are both asleep and I should be...

VagolaJahooli · 09/11/2010 13:45

Your reasons Lady & Rubes are the very ones DH keeps giving me. He says its just that I am sad at never having a birth again and never a newborn again. And he's right, but we just produce such GORGEOUS CHILDREN! It doesn't seem right to deny the world of another Grin

Rubes the getting dressed thing is wearing. It was about this time with DS1 that I relented on my non commercialism stance got off my high horse and started buying Thomas the tank engine et al clothes. At least DS1 would put them on first round. One thing that helps sometimes with DS2 is to sing "arms up in the air shake em around like you just don't care" he joins in and obligingly puts his arms up for his top on or off, even if he is mid scream. "Noooooooo...mms ar n d er ak em run ike u dus don car...nooooooo" in that time I can have top and jumper on if I'm quick.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 14:07

Yes your dh is exactly right Vagola, and you are right also, you do produce gorgeous children! However, at least you will be able to devote more time to the gorgeous one's you have Grin

Both times I was pregnant I always had that awful thought that "what if something is wrong", and "what if the child is ill" etc. Silly isn't it, but I also feel that I want to quit while I'm ahead and have two lovely healthy children especially since I'm no spring chicken anymore. On Saturday it was the two year anniversary of my friends baby's death. he was diagnosed with luekemia at 6 weeks and they lost him at 10 months. So sad Sad I feel very fortunate. I don't mean to put a damper on the recently clackered ladies on here. It's rare that things go wrong - just when it happens to someone you know it makes you feel so grateful.
I have some beautiful baby girl clothes still with tags on in newborn and 0-3 sizes, and it's Summer stuff so lovely babyLady2 wouldn't have made use of it, so if anyone finds out they are having a lil girl in the Summer, I'll send it Grin

JamInMyWellies · 09/11/2010 14:20

Oh gawd do I have to walk the dog in this weather? Am going to invest in a treadmill and tie his lead to it. It is such a pain as it takes half an hr to get the boys ready then DS2 tantrums until I put him in the sling. BORING.

Effie and spinning wheel. Really? Grin

Oh and open fires we do not have a fire. But all the houses I grew up in had fires we just knew not to touch them. My mum has a fire in her place she has what she calls a nursery guard one of those boxey things.

Veg I totally get the not disturbing DH thing at nght. I am sure thats what makes me more tense when DS2 kicks off which prob tranfers to him, so makes him more unsettled. Vicious circle really.

Rubena · 09/11/2010 14:29

My poor dogs not getting walked because dh has pissed off to work with the double buggy and also the Bjorn in the back of the car. DS walks far too slow for the dog. but I do I know what you mean Jam.
DH has just remembered it's his mum's birthday and wants me to put a card in the mail (that I have to first buy at the shop that I have to get ds to walk to with me so that dd can sit in the single stroller - great.
Right - far too many posts from me, but just wanted to say hello Jam!

LadyThompson · 09/11/2010 14:41

Jam, that is one of the reasons why I don't have a dog when I totally, totally LOVE dogs. Erm, but that doesn't really help you I realise. Still, fresh air and exercise is good, right?

Rubes, you are right about the worrying whether something is wrong with a child. I am less of a spring chicken than you as well. But you are right about the rubbing shoulders with DP thing. It worries me! He can sleep in that shed he is intending to build Grin And that sorts out his hypnogogic hallucinations as well. Mind you, I don't feel like rubbing shoulders, noses or anything else with him at the mo. I did all the feeds in the night and he was only at work this morning. Since he has come back, he played with DD1 for a bit and fed DD2 when I asked him, and he is now lying on the bed whilst I do the bottles and prepare the stew for later and then I will go and work at the house. Another reason not to have a DC3 - I do blinkin' everything around here.

Must press on!

JamInMyWellies · 09/11/2010 14:46

Farking men Lady. I stayed at mums last night and got home this arvo to his bacon sandwich mess all over the kitchen and tea cups in the bedroom
