Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 05/12/2010 21:28

Silver You sound like your married to an Octupus. Have you tried seeing if white noise would help at all? DS seems to get quiet when I dry my hair in the morning, does that happen with yours at all?

Abfab you can have the snow thats round here at the moment if you want it. I've read around the sight that unless you are breastfeeding every three hours then there is every chance you could ovulate. I think there was a BF and TTC thread around here at some point as well.

Silver Nymph Funnily enough I got really periody and achey yesterday and have had really tender breasts as well. I did wonder if my ovaries were feeling broody again(hoping not though).

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 05/12/2010 21:32

Also a quick question for those that are doing it, what kind of birth control are you using and does it affect you if you're breastfeeding at all? I was on the combined pill before and it worked really well for me, I'm just concerned if I go on the mini pill that it won't agree with me and wondered what others were doing.

nymphadora · 05/12/2010 21:43

I have a prescription for mini pill but they are out of stock everywhere so waitingonthem so just condoms for now. I won't have long acting hormones as I am Sensitive to hormones as it is. Condoms are onoffer in Boots atm if anyone is interested.
Had an emotional afternoon watching De Lovely ,forgot how sad it is :(

Ivytheterrible · 05/12/2010 23:47

hey all... officially post-natal yeay.

seashells am a bit Shock about the sleep regression thing... I thought it was meant to get easier not get worse again!

hermya "jibbering in a corner somewhere crying into a muslin." perfectly describes my first 4 weeks of coping with a newborn.

We have the 8 week jabs booked in for the 22nd Dec. Really hope she isn't ill and feverish all over Christmas.

Still not fully 100% with the bf but going to a weekly "bf cafe" group tomorrow which I hope will help with confidence and help me keep going but am just taking it a few days at a time and not put too much pressure on myself to do a year/6 months etc.

I have mini-pill prescription but not sure about it so may go back for something else when I have thought about the options... felt a bit steamrollered into having something at my 6 week check - sex is the last thing on my mind tbh.

AbFabT · 06/12/2010 00:47

H, I found the TTC whilst BFing thread a little while ago, slowly reading through it - it's very long! Would love to conceive soon, and remain BFing! Am BFing regularly, to DS's timetable, not kept a log - perhaps I should!

Have our eight-week jabs this week. Wish I could have them instead of DS. Any tips for preparing ourselves?

floozietoozie · 06/12/2010 03:52

Hermya - contraception = two children Grin. No, seriously. I suppose I'll eventually have to think about contraception again which will be odd after seven years of ttcing/being pregnant. However am hoping to stay period free for awhile not that I'd be relying on it but last time even though I was literally only bfing once a day by that stage my periods didn't return until I stopped totally at five months. As I have endometriosis and periods aggravate it, I'm keen to avoid them. I'll go back to progesterone injections probably. Or maybe consider the mirena coil. I don't like taking hormones but it's far better for me health wise which is a pain as it does make me put on just a few pounds. However avoiding two week periods (yes it has happened!) will be nice!

On that note, do those who've had sectons findit more difficult to lose weight? Last time the weight just disappeared and stomach was normal again. Now have the weird overhang thing and my weight is staying the same after tge initial post birth loss I suppose because I've been so inactive due to immobility. My diet is not great admittedly but I don't want to not eat if I feel hungry as I'm already paraoid about my milk supply.

It was the special care baby unit parents' group Christmas party yesterday so I took my two prems along to it. Dontstopmenow, you weren't there were you?????!!

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 08:44

Floozie- I have endo too but the pill controlled it. I also find it v difficult to lose weight but my stomach muscles are separated and my scar last time was a mess so gp offered to refer me for an apronectomy which removes the overhang. I could only have this if I wasn't planning more children which at he time I was.

I'm funding it v hard to think dd3 is my last baby :( bit worried this may be a trigger

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 09:44

Just got invite to job interview. Bit scared!

shieldbug · 06/12/2010 10:17

AbFab wow at wanting to TTC so soon. I've been thinking fondly about having another, but I'm not planning to do anything about it just yet.

At 5 weeks, I'm still getting bleeding, and was a bit concerned, but various posts on this topic have reassured me now. I was also worried cos I can't fit into my jeans but feel better about this too now. Unfortunately I have a bump still as the fibroids haven't shrunk yet. I'm dreading someone asking me when I'm due! I'm really hoping it goes before Christmas.

I'm [shock} at so many hvs recommending ff. Mine is so encouraging when it comes to bf and always praises me for persevering even though it's been tough. I also recommend bf support groups- I know lots of you have found one. The women at mine are so down to earth and friendly. I look forward to it all week tbh as it's such a good place to get reassurance.

nymph when is the interview? good luck in advance.

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 10:59

Thurs next week. Totally new area so needto read up which should be fun with baby brain. Also got KIT afternoon on Monday so leaving dd3 twice in a week and longest so far has been school run once

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 06/12/2010 11:53

Ooo Nymph Good luck, I hope it goes well!!

Abfab Personally the way my hormones are at the moment I think I could quite easily just let nature take it's course on the next baby front. But I need to go back to work unpregnant as I need to be confirmed in post and due to health and safety I can't do that whilst being pregnant. Plus I don't think I can face another batch of being pregnant at work just yet (it was so so boring). On the jabs front, you could try feeding him whilst they're doing the jabs. I did this when DS had his heel prick and it seemed to work.

Floozie I've heard of this one Xmas Grin.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 06/12/2010 13:21

Floozie-yup, we use that form of contraception as well! We find it has a 100% success rate (as 2 children currently cause abstinence ;)) Ds is ill and just moved out of his cot so if dd2
Isn't awake and feeding, we are settling ds1 in his room!!

Shock at thinking of ttc now-we have 23mths between them and it's hard work, but will pay off. I know one lady with 11mths between her first and then twins- I just can't get over that one!

Moon-great to hear from you :)

Ivy-I'm really sorry to have broken sleep regression too you...I'm afraid motherhood is very wonderful (and my dc are lovely-and beautiful ern if I do say so myself ;) ) but at times the hardest job/role you will ever take on. Everytime onething is sussed, the next phase starts and you are on a steep learning curve again!!

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 06/12/2010 13:59

Nymph- congrats on the interview- and the very best of luck!

AbFabT · 06/12/2010 14:11

It's mainly my age, I know I am not ancient, but I am just aware that the older we get, the harder it is to get pregnant, and the higher the chances of complications. And I do like the idea of having children close in age! Ooh, twins next would be lovely! :)

Nymph, good luck re interview!

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 14:13

Don't suppose anyone here works in trading standards? That's what the Job is & I need to revise some basics.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 06/12/2010 14:35

Sorry Abfab, I wasn't meaning to sound judgy, as we started ttc quite early and did suffer further mcs so can understand why. My only advice is purely anecdotal, which was all of my antenatal class tried early and out of 5 of us, one is still trying, one has a 18mth gap and 3 of us had mcs and are now having kids within 3 months of each other again! We all decided it was out of our hands Grin

I'm afraid I can help nymph, sure someone here c an though

Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 06/12/2010 14:58

Nymph Good luck with the interview :)

I dont know if i want another baby, i would love it if the pregnancy was as good and labour as good as with dd and not like it was with ds. But wouldnt do it for another couple of years, Or when i get a third arm lol Xmas Grin but good luck to you AbFab hope you concieve quickly x

Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 06/12/2010 15:10

Just reading quickly about the contraception, I was nagged by the gp and nurse the other day about having the implant and just googled it to find that it would make me put on weight and currently iam at the slimmest ive been for years, and it would make my migraines come back as i was with pregnancy, but i would be stuck like it for 3 years, iam feeling stuck as what to do, i dont want to go back on the mini pill as that made me put on weight, think i need help, feeling like im being so pressured atm by gp's and nurses. :(

sam12 · 06/12/2010 15:32

I've also found that a lot of health care people have been preoccupied with contraception. The doc was happy to leave it as condoms and bf as she said she didn't want me to have anything that contained hormones if we wanted to conceive within the next two or three years. Which because of my age and the fact I'd like children pretty close in age would be about right. If I can build up courage to do it again!!

Dd got her injections in the morning. Eek.
Have also invited some friends round for DVD night tomorrow and am now wondering if I should cancel if dd is going to be unsettled after the jabs. How bad does it make them? Also shall I get some calpol in?

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 06/12/2010 15:56

Definitely get calpol in just incase! Dd was fine, but I gave her a dose aa soon as we got home :) I hope they go ok, poor little ones.

Re contraception joking aside, i really do not know what to do. I am very wary of hormones given my history of depression etc and a not great time of the pill years ago. They seem keen on the coil (Gp and hv)but again, hormones involved. Dh is happy to get the snip, but at 30 I don't think it's fair on him ( or us, we feel completed as a family but will we in 5 years? I'll still be young?)

Decisions decisions

Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 06/12/2010 15:57

Def get calpol in, i found the first day is normally a sleepy one 2nd and third day whingy and struggling to feed but today she seems better. Hope thats some help.

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 16:14

Dd3 has her jabs tomorrow too. Hoping she is ok after as we have school plays wed & thurs and I nerd her to sleep through thenBlush also have 3 10 year olds sleeping fri which won't be pleasant on lack of sleep.

Going to get her weighed tomorrow too as she feels really heavy in the last couple of days!

Re age gap there is just under 2 years between my eldest two & that works well

AbFabT · 06/12/2010 16:24

Didn't read you as judgy whatsoever, Sea! :) Thanks re good luck wishes and anecdotes. We are chilled - I'm not doing all that measuring my temperature and checking mucous stuff - we're just not using contraception, is all! :)

sam and nymph, DS has his injections tomorrow too. :(

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 18:32

Just realised will need interview clothesShock

SilverSky · 06/12/2010 19:51

Ty tell them condoms and if they have issues thats their problem. I cant do pills or the implant. Turns me into a wreck and makes me a fatty.
