She has terrible wind, stinks worse than her dad, poor thing. I think she is uncomfortable. Doc we're seeing was at her delivery, he's fab so I hope he can make her better quick.

nymphadora · 06/01/2011 09:34

That seems to go with lack of poo!

NoHunIntended · 06/01/2011 16:21

I'd love a sewing machine! When we eventually move house, I think I'll get one! I'd especially like an antique one! Though I think modern ones do snazzy things, so that'd be good, too! Maybe you'll enjoy it, Ivy! Anyway, Happy Birthday!

DS just had his 12-week jabs. He is sleeping peacefully now, bless him.

Off to Scotland first thing Saturday morning, got to pack. Packing for a baby takes up a heck of a lot of space.

Elsa123 · 06/01/2011 16:52

Have a great time Nohun where abouts are you going?

Funny how your DS has his 12 week jabs, DD is 12 weeks today and had her 8 week jabs yesterday! Thats Christmas for you.

I hope your DD is feeling better ILGH.

We've had a successful day, DD had physio for her hips this morning, the landing carpet was done also, I varnished some spindles, we went for a 3 mile walk the 3rd of the week and we've just got back from Tescos.

NoHunIntended · 06/01/2011 18:24

Thanks! We're off to Fife for a few days, then up to Stornoway (Isle of Lewis).

How are your DD's hips doing?

Gosh, quite late for her jabs then! We're pretty much on schedule - DS is 12wks, five days.

nymphadora · 06/01/2011 18:31

Elsa-glad someone else is behind on jabs. Not had any yet at 13 weeks! Is dd still in her harness? You said about something was going to change ?

Hun- have a good time!

Elsa123 · 06/01/2011 18:58

DD had physio today and her harness was adjusted by 1cm. She's got a consultant review on the 19th and hopefully then she'll have to wear it less; she currently wears it for 23.5 hours a day. The physio said that her flexibility was such that there are no longer any external clinical signs of dysplasia. Here's hoping that the next scan is as positive.

TBH i'm ok with the late jabs as I wanted her head to heal up a little as she's seen quite enough of the medical profession! We met our new HV yesterday and she was lovely. Smile.

nymphadora · 06/01/2011 19:00

That's looking good then elsa. Good you've got a nice HV too as you may need her more than usual with the hip problem.

HermyaLovesLysander · 06/01/2011 19:54

Elsa Good to hear isn't it Elsa.

Hun Have fun in Fife!!!

DS is screaming up a storm for poor Dh, I can hear him trying to sing to him over the monitor. I think I'll go rescue him in a minute.

floozietoozie · 06/01/2011 21:27

Hello all, sorry for radio silence. Very tired and not v well here. Also, I have a blocked duct so left boob sore and bf obviously painful. I'm trying very hard for it not to turn into mastitis. It's ds's birthday on Saturday and I have a party to prepare and obviously host - can't be ill. I also had the night from hell last night. Woke up at 3.30ish to find the blocked duct, just as ds came through to my room. fed dd through the pain, but ds was wakeful and wouldn't go back to sleep. He kept me awake, and dd didn't really go off properly either, whether as a result of it or not I don't know. Fed her again and ds eventually fell asleep - it was about six thirty by this time. Had to keep feeding her, go to loo, etc, managed a little lie down from about eight holding her till just after nine but she was not really settling so kept waking me up. Then later on about 11.30 I tried having a lie down with her but again she'd wake up as soon as I put her down/lay back after feeding and cry, so I spent about two and a half hours doing this - no sleep! I'm shattered and to cap it all of course ds isn't going off because he slept in this morning - we kept him off nursery - and I predict an evening of hell a la new year's eve. I'm desperate for some sleep but i'm also worried about the boob - dd will prob sleep for about six hours from going down, and I don't want to leave it that long.

And to cap it all, my windscreen wipers aren't working, and I was supposed to get them fixed today but couldn't get out to do it - and we've got snow forecast tomorrow. Aarrggghhh. Can't wait for spring!

Elsa123 · 06/01/2011 22:19

Ooh Floozie how rubbish for you. Do you have any cabbage or could you send your DH out for any to help the offending boob? It worked wonders for me when I couldn't bear anything touching the underside of my right boob apart from soft fleece. Also hot flannels and a hot shower applied to the lump and it firmly massaged toward the nipple is meant to help too (my sister recommended this) although I'm sure you know all this already. Ibuprofen is safe to take, you could have a couple now and 2 paracetamol later.

If I were you I would leave DD that long just to give yourself a break and perhaps you could express?

Drink plenty of fluids and I'm thinking of you x x

ILoveGregoryHouse · 07/01/2011 00:30

Floozie how horrible. I had a blocked duct a couple of weeks ago. I have those Avent shells and wore it when I wasn't feeding, it kept massaging the boob and catching the milk. I also did what elsa has said and you can use a comb to help get to the lump. Run it through soap first and do it in the bath. Block took a day to go. Watch your temperature too.

SilverSky · 07/01/2011 02:27

Hey Flooze I've had both the blocked duct and mastitis but on two seperate ocassions, the duct didn't turn into mastitis iyswim. All the tips given work cos I've used them.

Also get a bowl of v warm water and dangle your boob in it and massage. Do this before every feed. Or if you hot towel do that before every feed. When DD is feeding you must massage towards nipple.

Sainsbugs sell these gel pads that can be used hot or cold and I found them to be very soothing.

It may not feel like it but you can get through this.

tiredfeet · 07/01/2011 03:37

Oh floozie that sounds tough. Really hope you are having a better night tonight

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 07/01/2011 06:24

Floozie-hope you are feeling better :)

HermyaLovesLysander · 07/01/2011 07:34

Floozie I hope you're feeling better, I've had a blocked duct it's really not nice. Have you looked for milk blisters to make sure that the duct is being cleared properly as well. But as others have said, a couple of ibuprofen and massaging it should hopefully clear it. If you start to feel fluey though, get thee to a Doctor for some antibiotics.

nymphadora · 07/01/2011 10:01

Ouch floozie & it's all so much worse without sleep. Think all the tips are on here but it you feelat all fluey go straight to GP.

tiredfeet · 07/01/2011 15:08

Ds having a feeding frenzy today. Managed to get out for a drizzly walk along the beach but otherwise have been pretty much glued to the sofa all day

Feeling a bit shocked as we woke up to find ds had pulled his blankets over his head this morning. He was fine but I am not sure how I will manage to relax and sleep tonight. Might have to staple his blankets down. Think will get some sleeping bags for him asap!

HermyaLovesLysander · 07/01/2011 16:15

Tired Might I recomend ebay, I found some right bargins on there when I was looking for grobags.

nymphadora · 07/01/2011 17:07

Was supposed to go shopping today for dd3s next sleepsuits as hers are looking tight but we all felt too rough. Dh & I did a school run each & that was our limit. Dd3 back on calpol today too. Am at end of my tether with this cold now, no idea what to do to get rid :(

NoHunIntended · 07/01/2011 19:07

TK Maxx have some gorgeous sleeping bags in at the moment, bargains too.

nymph, sorry you are still feeling grotty. May I suggest (and note, though, I am not a nutritionist) that you lay off dairy until your cold has cleared - dairy is mucous-forming, and prolongs colds because it makes you hold on to the snot longer. Personally, I lay off dairy completely, and I've not had a cold since I gave it up 11 years ago.

I've been reading up on Calpol. I find it scary, and personally, if DS needs pain relief, I'll be asking the pharmacist for a simple paracetamol suspension for babies. www.theecologist.org/green_green_living/behind_the_label/346400/behind_the_label_calpol.html Thoughts?

nymphadora · 07/01/2011 20:33

I do avoid dairy (and chocolate ) when I have a cold. Only dairy I eat is cheese, only have milk in stuff. Do eat a lot of cheese normally though.

Don't scare me about calpol :( she has had it 3 times today :( last one came straight back out as did most of her stomach contents :( only did 1 ml 2nd time as I was worried although dh keeps pointing out that it was instant. The antibiotics were worse to give though as they were v unnatural & no alternative :(

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 07/01/2011 21:20

Nymph-nothing is perfect, and in moderation calpol etc etc is fine-and much better than the alternative (a friend's dc had gentile convulsions-I never want to have to go through that)

Ds had paracetamol or ibuprofen based products alot during his first 18mths ad he got a temp of 38c every tooth or cold. He was miserable without!

I try to only use when I have to, but you just can't avoid it with young children IMO.

I hope you all get better soon :)

Dd had her second vaccs today. I've been a cow to dh for the last few days so hoping it was just worry about that. She was a star as always. She is so gorgeous, inch long soft hair and the cutest grin. She seems to want to pull herself up into sitting and grab her feet -an blow bubbles at her favourite book-even Ds has come round and cuddles up to watch in the night garden together :)

HermyaLovesLysander · 07/01/2011 21:20

Hun Hmmmm that doesn't make nice reading does it.

Oh Nymph your poor things.

DS has been attached to me like a limpet today, I think he's going through a mini growth spurt. I did my part by eating biscuits (which I really should stop doing).

I've spoken with a friend this week, we've made an excercise pact in which I'll watch her DD whilst she goes swimming and she'll watch DS whilst I go running. It makes me cringe, but it has to be done. I do not wish to go back to work needing a whole new stash of kit.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 07/01/2011 21:21

Argh: gentile, not febrile!! Bloody autocorrect :(
