Hi Sarahlou. This may be a v dumb question but how hot are you washing the clothes? I do them at 60 usually if it's pooey and they seem to be fine. Sometimes I've rinsed them first, sometimes I haven't Blush.

Still no idea what to get sisters or dp for Christmas. Also wondering if the calendar I made for my mum will arrive on time. It said it was despatched on Saturday.... She will understand but it will be very annoying if it doesn't arrive as that was the one thing I did do in time!

Nymph and Hermya thought of you both when I heard about tge earthquake on the radio last night.

SilverSky · 22/12/2010 14:19

I stick washing up liquid on it!!

Sam try smearing it inside dd'd mouth instead of using the dropper.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 22/12/2010 14:49

Hiya. Just put a pic of Genni on my profile, taken at DS1's 7th birthday party.

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 22/12/2010 16:42

Rang the tax credits line, all is sorted now.

I've also had a spurt of organisation strike me. I've bought the last of the Christmas presents, bought DS a cute outfit to meet his Great Nan in and made contact with a childminder for when I go back to work (ok that bit depressed me, but it has to be done).

ILGH Genni is super cute!!

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 22/12/2010 17:03

Ilgh- genni is super cute! So are your boys :)
Btw-noticed you list Miss Smilia's feeling for snow-not met anyone else who loved that book-it's one of my favorites too. I'm just reading Wallander as the weather is making me feel all Scandinavian :)

nymphadora · 22/12/2010 18:15

ILGH -cute bunch you have there!

Hermya-:( at childminder but it's better to start early to get a good one

Hospital think my mole not melanoma this time :) but will remove in Jan anyway & check

Dd3 now has anti biotics as cold is nowon her chest :(

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 22/12/2010 21:28

Nymph Oh no, poor DD3. Good news about the mole though!!

I have a confession, I still haven't put up my Christmas tree and I don't think its actually going to go up this year. This is mostly due to the fact that there is nowhere to put it and the decorations are in a box under several other boxes.

Oh the shame.

tiredfeet · 22/12/2010 23:20

Hello all having a busy week here lots of christmas parties and then trying to pack to go north for christmas. Bit nervous about the journey, we have 4x4 but its a bit irrelevant if traffic etc is bad. Any suggestions what I might have forgotten to pack?!
Hope you all havr lovely a christmas

floozietoozie · 22/12/2010 23:24

Seashells and ILGH I love Smilla too. Fab book, such a range of knowledge that man has. I love the Swedish Wallander tv series and would like to read rhe books at some stage.

DSis, Bil and DNi and DNe here. Feeling Christmassy now tge house is cleaner and tidier and we've been sitting round eatin g and talking.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 23/12/2010 03:13

Oh no hermya, where's santa going to leave the presents?

nymph hope dd recovers soon.

Off to google wallander.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 23/12/2010 07:58

(can also recommend tove jansson (of moomin fame) - her autobiographical novels are really calm, beautiful philosophy - but bit everyone's taste)

Elsa123 · 23/12/2010 10:05

Lovely photo ILGH!

Tiredfeet changing mat, loads of muslins/stuff to wipe up possets. Your own washing powder just in case your DC gets through ALL clothes! Double the amount of nappies you think you need!

Nymph how pants for your DD. I hope she gets better soon. DH and I have had colds and mine's now a really awful sore throat but DD seems to be doing fine. She has her 2nd hip appointment today- fingers crossed she can have more time out of her harness.

Hermya I was the same as you until yesterday and have not been feeling remotely christmassy so last night we put up the tree and I decorated the mantlepiece which does look very nice indeed.

Seashells ooh I loved the moomins! I shall look her up.

We have my FIL and step MIL coming this evening for the night. Last time they saw DD she was very very young, only about a week old and I was still having to wake her for feeds. She slept for 4 hours and I was worried so woke her and fed her. According to my FIL DD was 'controlling me'. Can't wait to hear what he has to say tonight as DD is great all day, sleeps through the night and the payback is an evening of fussiness and wanting cuddles and comfort feeds which I am fine with. No doubt he'll have an opinion!

Sarahlou8 · 23/12/2010 13:33

Hi all, and thanks for your replies. Floozie I've tried washing as hot as poss by hand, using soap powder, followed by a wash in the machine they're still coming out yellow. Another explosion this morning, so I rubbed ordinary hand soap on it and it seems to have worked a bit better.
Someone has told me it tends to be the brand new stuff that stains the most (it would be!) and that it comes out of things better if they've been washed a few times.

Ilovegregoryhouse My little girl's name is Emily, she's 9 weeks old today (where did the time go??)and she's becoming a little character, though she still sleeps A LOT! Luckily it means we aren't too knackered but I can't wait to play with all her Christmas presents, I'm going to have to play on my own!

Hermya My DH is an accountant Blush so I'll ask him about the tax credits for you, he'll know.

Samb Hi!!!! I didn't know I'd find you on here!! How's you? Are you still suffering with thrush? I've got no advice as I haven't had it, but I hope it clears up soon. Are you all ready for Christmas? I think this year has been more magical for the two older ones (for those who don't know me I have a 10 yr old DS and a 12 yr old DD) now we have Emily, and although she's still only tiny we've done all the Santa things etc and they're loving it!

Interesting to hear about the earthquake, what area are those of you who felt it in?

very thick snow here - I'm so glad I'm on maternity leave and not at work. Staying all toasty at home. Beautiful x

nymphadora · 23/12/2010 13:41

SarahLou I'm in Cumbria. Nice to see someone else with a big age gap! My dd1/2 are 11/9 so similar to yours. Think SamB has similar age gap too

Sarahlou8 · 23/12/2010 13:49

Nymphadora It's lovely isn't it? had so many negative comments at the beginnimg it made me really doubt myself and wonder if I was mad to want another, but it's fantastic - the older ones are so much help and finding her very rewarding and I work with pre-schoolers so I don't feel I'm "starting again" at all.

Sam I've just tracked back to your last post and seen you're going to have one more. That's lovely! Part of me hoped I would feel that this is it for me, no more - but I still don't feel like that. I'd like another too, I just don't think I'm brave enough to go through it all again. Had a nasty sickness bug over the weekend which was very much like early labour. NO NO NO!!!!

I'm off for now, coffee and mince pie calling courtesy of DD (who is in charge of Emily Smile)

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 23/12/2010 13:56

Oooooo so exciting DS's cute outfit arrived, it's this one. I think it should be worthy of a showing to his great Nan tomorrow.

I just hope he doesn't mess it up.

Sarah Thanks for that, I did get it sorted in the end. I rang the helpline and spoke to a rather charming young man. You're right about it being nice to be on ML. This time last year I was hitching lifts to work in a mates 4x4 and wearing head to toe thermals and still shivering my butt off at work. I wasn't full of festive cheer at all then.

nymphadora · 23/12/2010 14:29

SarahLou- my two totally worship dd3. Was hoping for another but the consultant was v firm that I wasn't to come back. She saw me every 2 weeks for 6 months so was understandable! When I refused sterilisation she tried to get dh to get done instead!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 23/12/2010 17:02

DS has been a tad difficult today, he's been very sicky, chomping on his hands lots and been very unsettled. I popped my finger in his mouth and he was biting down very hard on it.

We've both been through two outfits and a hell of a lot of chocolate (me not him). I've been out and bought some teething powder from the pharmacy. I don't know if he's teething but if he's still chompy later, I might give him a dose and see how we go.

NoHunIntended · 23/12/2010 17:43

Welcome, Sarahlou. Congratulations on Emily. Hope you stick around!

Cute photo, ILGH. Would love to see one of all four of them together.

That outfit looks lovely, H. Sorry to hear A is niggly today - hope that passes soon.

Just added a festive one of DS to my profile, though MN shrinks photos so small it's not very clear, but anyway.

All good here. Xmas Smile

floozietoozie · 23/12/2010 17:48

Ok I'm bfing in M&S cafe. I have one thing for dp and nothing for sisters. Sooooo tired. Have all tge wrapping of ds's stuff to do tonight. Obviously I can do everyone else's in the daytime but not so easy when ds around really. I'm totally uninspired for them apart from clothes as usual. But that's so random to shop for.

It's freezing too! Luckily I'm indoors in malls but still have to do return journey eith her on the bus. I thought you were supposed to get more organised when you had kids.....!

nymphadora · 24/12/2010 03:25

How did you get on floozie? I did 90% mine online this year in Oct when I couldn't walk pre dd3 & some in Nov from my phone via the amazon app when feeding! It's the wrapping etc I can't get on top of this year as I'm always holding a baby.

I'm up now as everytime I go to bed I cough until I feel sick. Even sitting in bed although I can sit downstairs fine so I've given up for now & am listening to dd3 kick the cot with her sleeping bag zip.

floozietoozie · 24/12/2010 04:45

Nymph hope you are asleep now. I did it but didn't get home till nearly 9.30! Dd was NOT impressed with shopping. I was planning to wrap last night at least ds's stuff but she was a limpet baby and fed pretty constantly till nearly 12.30am. Then ds was bring wakeful in bed with me just went off before I stated feeding dd about 4. Tiredness looms. Tomorrow may nit be fun. How I'll do the wrapping I don't know.

On the bright side, the weather forecast for Tuesday is 9 degrees! Break out the bikinis!

nymphadora · 24/12/2010 05:59

Nope!

Went back to bed but dd3 pooed as I went in the room so I changed her, fed her then couldn't drop off again. I've done washing/dishwasher/cleaned kitchen/cleaned bathroom/tidied freezer/Defragged computer/ done online banking for the month/ hung up christmas cards. And now back on MN!

Am v awake Hmm

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 24/12/2010 06:53

Nymph Your nocturnal wanderings put mine to shame.

DS obviously knackered himself out last night as he slept until 5am this morning, after I'd fed and changed him it seemed a bit pointless to go back to bed. It didn't help that DH was up and dressed Shock. I asked him about it and he said he was being a lunatic bit organised.

On the plus side my house now looks more festive as I've strung tinsel everywhere. Weirdly now I've done that I feel a hell of a lot more festive.

nymphadora · 24/12/2010 08:10

I was doing that when I was pg too just with less stairs!

I'm not feeling v festive this year either. Still miss working in a school although this is my 3rd Xmas away the last two I went to dh school Xmas assemblies etc so got in the mood early. This is also the first year in 10 I haven't had to sign 12 days of Xmas which strangely I missBlush
