Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SilverSky · 18/12/2010 15:45

dilly are you getting shooting pains during feeds? If so that is what I had. Made me cry!! Turns out it was thrush.

SilverSky · 18/12/2010 15:46

Oh and during the day DS feeds two hourly ! Yup.

SilverSky · 18/12/2010 15:48

Oh and if you want to have a few wines how many feeds do you need to express for and when to start feeding the expressed milk? Eg when does the alcohol hit your milk?

sam12 · 18/12/2010 16:39

Hi everyone. I've been reading but not posting lately. But silver your question about alcohol reminded me of what my doc said about bf. They said treat it like driving if u r safe to drive then you ok to bf and to try and have a drink directly after feeding whilst your empty. Then follow the rule that 1 unit takes an hour to leave your system so if u only have 1 then u ok to bf an hour later. I know there is a lot of contradictory advice though
I spent the day at work for the panto and get together in the pub after yesterday which was great though I felt sad leaving dd.
Dh is ill so I am hoping that me and dd don't catch it as there is so much to do before Xmas.
Hope everyone else is good. Am on phone so can't name check

ILoveGregoryHouse · 18/12/2010 16:56

Dilly i agree with hermya, bumgenius are very good. I've got the new tot bots all in one nappy too and some iti bittis. Got my eye on mini la las. Cheeks and cherries is a lovely site.

Elsa i was using two cups of boiled water with a splash of almond oil and a drop of lavender but am curently using just water cos of Gen's poorly bum.

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 17:10

Thanks for nappy advice!

And now - feeding - DS just lurves to be on the boob, never for less than 40 minutes and often for an hour or more. I realise he's just suckling for comfort but we can't get him to take a dummy so not at all sure what to do as he cries otherwise. He has almost learned to suck his thumb but not quite....

Silver the shooting pains are in between times but I do think I need to get this checked....Also if LO has thrush and his mouth itches that might explain why he wants to suckle and mess about with his hands/nipple in his mouth so much.

SilverSky · 18/12/2010 17:19

Dora maybe try a diff brand of dummy ?

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 17:39

yeah, might do, we got the Tommee Tippee closer to nature one and I don't think it is very close to nature at all!!! (well, my nipple doesn't look like that Wink) I'm quite reluctant to use one at all but I'm not sure what else to do...

Elsa123 · 18/12/2010 17:44

Dilly We're the same with the comfort sucking and I tried tommee tipee ones and normal latex and they are greeted with a choking sound and a wounded look. DD only really comfort sucks in the evening, so I'm letting her at the moment. She too has not found a thumb but found her knuckle earlier!

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 17:47

LOL Elsa I know what you mean, Toby thinks a dummy cramps his crying style! He has managed to suck his thumb (as opposed to his knuckle or lip) a couple of times but he sticks it in at such an odd angle I can't see that it's very enjoyable.

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 18:28

Dd3 loves thumb sucking. Not quite got it but has been trying since v early. Her favourite thing at the moment is to ask for milk then when I lift my top she cuddles up & sucks her thumb smiling Grin

Anyone else got a chewy baby? She is getting chewy on her/our hands & v dribbly.

sam12 · 18/12/2010 19:29

Yeah nymph dd is very chewy she tries to get both hands in at once! Or she chews on clothes, body parts, anything that goes near her mouth really. She is also very dribbly. I wondered if she could be teething?

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 19:57

I wondered but too early

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 18/12/2010 22:15

Nymph I dunno, my friends DS got a tooth at 10 weeks. DS gums are starting to get sharpish as well.

Dilly I found the nuby dummies in Boots and DS loves them, according to the packet they flex in the mouth like a Mothers nipple Hmm. Anyway, they're worth a go if you feel that way inclined.

ILGH We didn't get on with the itti bittis Xmas Sad, they're very lovely though. I'm going to get a mini lala and see how it goes.

I think I'd rather DS had a dummy rather than his thumb, I was a thumb sucker and was for quite a lot of my childhood. I think in the end my Mum may have bribed me off of it. My niece still has her dummy at bedtime but the dummy fairy will be paying her a visit quite soon. The dummy fairy apparently turns dummies into goldfish. The things you learn.

The thought does occur as to how you would explain the numourous goldfish in 'pets at home' to said niece.

Xavielli · 18/12/2010 22:15

If you do really want to try a dummy I would recommend the MAM ones. Have used them with all of my kids and are the only ones they would take.

Things are fine here. Good days and bad days, been very low today in tears all day. Have 6 week check on Monday (DS2 was 7 weeks yesterday - flying by!) and will be perfectly honest with the doctor and I already know what she will say. Probably shouldn't have waited this long to do something about it.

On the upside the kids are well and very helpful. I yelled at DD then later she came and asked for a cuddle so I picked her up and apologised for shouting. She said "That's ok Mummy, I still love you." Break your heart don't they.

Made a Mr Tickle cake yesterday for a party that was snowed off today, turned out quite well so have added it to my profile Xmas Grin

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 18/12/2010 22:17

I hope I don't offend anyone with the dummy/thumb thing, I don't mean to.

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 22:28

Im not offended!! I have 1 thumb sucker & 1 potential one. Dd2 tried to steal bottles & dummies off every child we met but was never interested in thumbs think that's why she wants to buy dd3 one. If I had been going to use one she would have been the candidate as the others (so far) haven't shown signs of needing one.

Elsa123 · 19/12/2010 11:36

I'm not offended. I'm not a mad fan of dummys and I was a thumb sucker. I'd rather DD did without both tbh. DD's just shoved her thumb up under her lip....and cried with frustration! How do babies suck their thumbs in the womb and struggle when out?! Very disappointed with some nappy wraps I bought the other day. I was after cloth ones and bought some which said polyester. They may well be polyester but they're plastic and huge. They will be going back. I wanted some comfy ones for DD. Does anyone have any good recommendations that suit a slim jim baby?

Elsa123 · 19/12/2010 11:38

The reason why I'd rather she wasn't an ardent thumb sucker is that my sister really struggled to give up the thumb and all the dental work she had done was ruined. Her children used dummies as she did not want history repeating itself.

Elsa123 · 19/12/2010 11:41

Sorry, 3rd post! Nymph DD started drooling last week. Apparently its normal development so when they start to put things in their mouths their saliva coats stuff in antibacterial goop.

Xav well done for planning to be forthright with the doc. You sound like you're managing it well and that cake looks great! You're very talented.

nymphadora · 19/12/2010 12:35

There is a lump in her gum but still hoping it's elsa reason!

Awful nights sleep she was up & down from 12-5. First bad night since hospital. Dh especially exhausted as he gets up to pass her to me & put her back as my legs are v wobbly in the night. Also I'm not waking v quickly for her

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 19/12/2010 14:44

Silver I've finally managed to pop some pictures up of DS in the bugs in a rugs. I put him in the 3-6 months one (the red one) and his feet don't reach the bottom. But if he's in a car seat or the pram I don't really see this as a problem. The 0 - 3 months does fit him but it is getting a bit more snuggly now. He is a long baby at 58cm so really it depends on how long your son is. I think though if I was getting another, I'd personally get the 3-6months one just because you squish it up.

nymphadora · 19/12/2010 15:02

Just trying to sort big dds presents now while they aren't here but dd3 has other plans so am sitting here while she hugs my breast Confused

Elsa123 · 19/12/2010 16:42

LOL Nymph I know what you mean! Its my DH's birthday tomorrow and his presents are in DD's room waiting to be wrapped and DD is currently asleep but I need to get her up as its been a while and the bedroom's dark now so if I don't get her she'll think its night time and sleep for ages! So presents will go unwrapped for a while! However, although we have no decorations up yet, I have just made mince pies so its feeling more christmassy here Xmas Grin.

SilverSky · 19/12/2010 16:43

Brilliant H!! I think I'll go for the larger size. Will get more use. Ds is 56cm already and is seven weeks tmw!

We are also blowing saliva bubbles and I am getting used to getting my arm / shoulder dribbled on.
