SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 17/12/2010 06:27

Hi all, dd fed at 3, Ds up at 4, and still wide awake running around. :( the exhaustion is killing dh and I. I felt better when dd was just born, as at least we didn't have 2hrs of toddler screaming to contend with. Unfortunately even the good times are just a phase :(

Ilgh John Lewis got my Xmas shopping within 2 days, but I collect from my local store as it's v close! All Xmas shopping been done online this year :(

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 17/12/2010 06:31

That last emiticon should have been a :)

Ilgh- sudocream seems to make Ds worse so we use some Norwegian zinc based stuff- I'm sure there must be similar over here.Nothing wrong with egg white (although how did you find that one out?!)

SilverSky · 17/12/2010 07:17

nymph what size did u get? The 0-3mths bug rug goes up to 64cm and Ds is already 56cm. How quickly do they grow and how much use will I get out of the 0-3 mths? The 3-6mths is 74cm which means it will be too big for quite some time! What do you think?

Ds slept from 1045 thru to 515! Amazing! HI gave him a bottle of EBM and he guzzled nearly all of it and the bottle was 5fl oz!! Is that a lot? I have no idea. Not to mention the PITA that is sterilisation of the bottle and how long it stays sterile for etc etc. Again, no idea.

Got my six week check today. Wonder how quickly I can start working on my newly acquired jelly belly which I never had before and it doesn't seem to be going down of it's own accord any more and frankly I hate it.

Re contraception - can't do pills as they make me depressed and fat, the injection also turns me tubby and I am not sure I like the idea of a coil. Probably end up being condoms! Or abstinence!!

elsa what happened to the house in Sth Bucks?

Typically I can't get back to sleep so I may as well get up or I may lay in bed for a bit. It would seem I've had my quota of 5 or so hours and perhaps that is all I need to function now!!!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 17/12/2010 07:56

Silver I don't know how true this is, but I don't think formula guidelines for the sterilisation of bottles apply. My friend says she never sterilises her bottles for EBM as breastmilk is already sterile and chocked full of antiboties. I personally don't do that, I do sterilise the bottles but after this tend to just use them from the steriliser as and when. I mean they've not been rolling in dirt have they. Also I have the 0-3months and the 3-6months sizes of the bug in a rug, DS is about 58cm long. I can take a picture if you want to compare sizes.

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 17/12/2010 07:57

Nymph Oooo property porn [frgin].

ILoveGregoryHouse · 17/12/2010 08:28

silver am getting by on 5 or 6 hours sleep. Not in one go though.

Egg white - recommended by a mumsnetter, of course. What would we do without mumsnet Xmas Grin?

SilverSky · 17/12/2010 10:17

H very valid point! I shall stress less.

Sorry it was you that had the bug not n. A photo would be good. In your opinion which size would be better?

Greg sleep is valuable and without it I am a wreck!

Elsa123 · 17/12/2010 11:12

ILGH I'm not sure! I just do! The one thing that is scaled back is that the dogs get one long walk a day rather than 2. I am very lucky though in that DD is sleeping through so I'm getting 8 hours sleep although its not the best quality as I worry that she's ok and she is also a noisy hiccupy sleeper! I'm also lucky that she travels well and isn't the least put out to wake up in unfamiliar surroundings! She was great at my sisters this week and also at the flat and was quite happy bimbling about London. I really like the fact that Selfridges has rocking chairs on level 3 baby changing area for feeding too.

DD's bottom is fine. We use cotton wool and water and wipes when out and about, but they don't really agree with her. She tends to get a bit red, so when she does we use bog standard Boots own zinc and castor oil cream which is a wonder cream and worked over night on my split lip the other day too. It was about 70p. I remember some of you were making your own wipes- what methods did you use?

Silver I was working in Bucks and renting a house while DH was working in London and commuting in and we have a house up north that we're building ourselves. So after DD's first 6 weeks we moved out of the house in Bucks as I had no need to be there anymore and we got a flat in London for DH and DD and I will divide time between the house up north and london. Fortunately the dogs love the local kennels!
I too have heard that you don't need to worry so much about sterilization with EBM. I'm quite gash though anyway and DD is fine! The other day I was feeding her whilst out and about and was joined by another mother who fastidiously wiped her hands with anti bacterial gel before bfing her daughter. I just washed my hands and that was because I'd changed DD!

I've decided to stop cerazette. I know its only been a week but I've only just stopped lochia and I'm not putting up with random bleeds. I shall investigate the coil I think.

nymphadora · 17/12/2010 12:06

Just been & had loads of blood took. Had to take dd3 as she just screamed at dh when he held her but she slept through the appt.

SamanthaB123 · 17/12/2010 16:18

Hello Ladies Grin, it?s ages since I have posted although I have been reading from time to time when feeding at unearthly hours. I hope everyone is well and keeping warm in this weather! It?s rather hard to catch up having been absent for so long, so I?ll give it a bash and apologise to anyone who I?ve really missed. I?m really glad to hear that all of the babies are doing so well, it?s lovely to see them grow and change isn?t it?

Hun Really like the new name! Good luck ttc, we think that we might like just one more fairly soon too although we are not ttc at the moment. Perhaps by the time dd3 is two? We need to move house and sort out other things first really ? we are thinking of moving somewhere else altogether so there is lots to organise.

Elsa I hope that you and your dd are ok, I really felt for you when I read your post.

Nymph I hope that you are ok and not starting pnd. I have been depressed myself although not post-natally so am always on the look out to see if I?m ok. The thought of being depressed again terrifies me. Take good care of yourself and if you feel yourself spiralling just take one thing at a time and get help quickly. It sounds like your dh is brilliant and is looking after you well. I was interested to see you going to an interview for a different job, sorry it didn?t work out. I am wrestling with myself at the moment as a job that I would have previously really liked has come up at my school. The trouble is I can?t bear the thought of anyone else looking after dd3 and I don?t really want to go back at the same time as really wanting that job! When you go back what are you doing about childcare?

Seashells You must be exhausted you poor thing Sad. Does your ds sleep in the day having been up so early? DD1 was always up at 5am, stopped sleeping in the day at six months and didn?t sleep through the night until she started school. I was a zombie for years. I hope you are ok today, excessive tiredness is horrid. At least you have all your shopping done though!

ILGH We are all clear on the nappy rash front thank goodness. We do have regular poonami situations though. Ooof. What a mess. I have found that it helps to hold her up while the pooing is going on, it seems to stop it coming up the vest Grin. How are you getting on with four dc?s?

Silver Well done you for getting DS to sleep for so long. In fact I am rather jealous of all of you who have babies who go longer than four hours between feeds. We seem to be able to go longer in the day than then night when we revert to feeding every 3 hours. It?s ok now that I have mastered feeding lying down but I?m still tired. Didn?t you have lots of thrush problems (or was it Moonstorm?) We have too and just can?t get rid of it ? what worked for you in the end? My jelly belly is a stone and a half of eating during pregnancy Sad. I?m planning to start work on it in the new year so as to most enjoy Christmas! I suspect if I stop eating crisps, biscuits and chocolate there will be weight loss!

Floozie Well done getting to the pub, what a triumph! We are a long way from that here! How is Zazie doing now, is she gaining weight? Were you able to continue breastfeeding?

Hermya Congratulations on your pelvis floor Confused! What a compliment! I nearly had a coil years ago. It was all a bit of a thing. The doctor wanted to fit it at the end of my period as my cervix would be partially open but couldn?t get it in Blush. It wasn?t the most pleasant experience. We are going to use condoms as lots of pills effect me and I feel too old to be taking it. I?m also latex intolerant though so have to use ?special? ones Blush!!!

Hello to Dilly, Tyson, Tiredfeet & anyone else that I?ve missed! All is well here, dd3 is lovely and has a wonderful temperament. She seems to be developing well and gaining weight ? currently 10lbs 11oz and really interested in everything. She has a lovely little giggly laugh too which makes me well up! We also co-sleep (can?t remember who else said that they were) which has helped me make it through these first few weeks. We are nowhere near going through the night though. Feeding is going well in spite of repeated thrush.

I will try, now that I feel more up to date, to post more frequently so as not to need to do such a massive name check! We are expecting snow overnight and tomorrow so DH is stocking up on a few things that I missed on his way home from work (wine mainly I think). If we?re snowed in we might at least get the Christmas cards written even if the Royal Mail won?t be able to deliver them in time...

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 17/12/2010 17:08

Sam did you make notes Grin good to hear your news, hope you dint get snowed in! Those smiles and giggles are so cute and special :)

Ds sleeps in the day (he gets exhausted and stroppy) but it used to be 2 hrs and a happy boy,'easy to defrocked night. He is now trying to drop his nap so we are all grouchy other than the baby-dd is amazing considering she is only 11weeks today!

Nymph-sounds like you are well and truly ready for the weekend! I hope dp spoils you :)

nymphadora · 17/12/2010 18:54

Just been to do a huge Aldi shop with Xmas goodies. It's about 10 miles away & started hailing just as we got close. Came out to 3 inch of snow. Going v slowly home now. Traffic backed up & going 10 mph. Dd3 did a poo just as we left Aldi so will be getting uncomfy now :( got approx 2 miles left now.

SamB- childcare will be dh or my parents depending on if dh gets a job. Both will be working p/t even if he does. The leaving dd3 will be the trigger for PND

NoHunIntended · 17/12/2010 20:53

Good work on that massive catch-up, SamB! Xmas Smile Glad you like my new name - I was very pleased with myself when I came up with it! I feel like a proper MNetter now!
Good luck to you TTC when you come round to it too!

Enjoying some lovely snow here, and hoping for more! DH has just one more day at work on Monday, then is off until the New Year. Woo hoo.

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 17/12/2010 21:38

Nymph Oh I hope you got home ok.

Silver I'll do a piccy for you in the morning, it depends on how big your DS is. I think the 0-3 comes up a bit small and DS is nice and snug in it now. If you want it to last longer go for the 3-6 and just sort of bunch it up.

Hun At last you have your snow. Did you order the cushie tushie? I saw that one, it looks lovely.

DS made his debut tonight, I'll pop a picture up of him in all his sheepy glory. He was very well behaved and then we got home and he had a bit of a screaming session. But all is quiet now and I've had some chocolate.

In other randomness, I am ridiculously excited. I have found out that Benefit are releasing a new blusher. Xmas Grin I've been reading all about it on the tinterweb and I will be buying this when it makes its way over here. I have a bit of a make up obsession if I'm honest. Nothing fills me with as much glee as a new mascara or blusher.

Hey I may have baby sick down my top and a slightly dazed expression on my face most of the time now. But my mascara rocks and I can face the world knowing that at least one part of me looks good.

floozietoozie · 17/12/2010 21:44

Hi SamB nice to hear from you. I am still bfing and dd has two high cal ff a day too. She has put on weight thanks for asking.

Wow, so much snow. I am panicking now as I still haven't started shopping apart from a few stocking fillers today. What's the matter with me? Ds isn't going to have anyhing he wants if I don't start now.

nymphadora · 17/12/2010 22:18

Took me an hour hermya will have a rough idea how far. 10 miles? All on the main rd

tiredfeet · 17/12/2010 23:23

Love the sheep outfit hermya ! Your ds looks so sweet

nymph sorry about the bad journey

Braved the shops today with dh and ds to get me some clothes, my pre preg ones fit (the positive side of hyperemesis!) but none of them seem to work for breastfeeding. Good excuse for new clothes Xmas Grin.

We have had a bad time with ds though, it was a bit of a chaotic day and I think he got overtired. Dh ended up taking him for a little drive which did calm him down luckily. But I feel bad I couldn't calm him any other way.

SilverSky · 18/12/2010 06:11

Sam hello! Been a long time! Nice to have you back! Re thrush - you need Daktarin Gel for LO which you smear a very thin layer on gums, inside cheeks and on tongue four times a day after a feed ( not twice as is prescribed ). Your Gp may resist as the gel is nit for children under four mnths. Reason being purely due to a choking hazard but you are only using a thin layer applied by a finger, there is no problem.

Then to treat you -Daktarin cream. Again a very fine smear on the nipple after every feed. Making sure there is no residue left as you dont want LO to ingest any. It does say that the cream is not ok to use whilst bf'ing - the reason being due to it not being licensed as it's v expensive to licence it.

Do you have painful boobs? If so you'll need flucozanale to treat. You can also buy online grapefruit seed extract to take which also helps. Have a look in the breast and bottle forum on here.

If your gp flatly refuses have a look at the breastfeedingnetwork.org and there is a leaflet full of advice about thrush treatment which you can print off and take to Gp.

NoHunIntended · 18/12/2010 12:52

Hermya, what a poppet your DS is! Xmas Smile

Yes, ordered the Candy Cane Cushie Tushie - hope it arrives in time! One week til Christmas!!! Xmas SmileXmas SmileXmas Smile

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 13:15

Hi all! Lovely to read updates, hello Sam Sorry about the thrush - I do worry I have it to but the pain in my boob comes and goes, so that can't be it can it? Also have seen what looks like a big crack across the nipple which would explain the discomfort - beh, will see if I can get the nurse to look at it when she does the imms on Tuesday.

DS is very much the type to get overwrought if we go out in the day, the only way to get him to take a long afternoon nap is to have a day at home, otherwise we cop for a lot of screaming, so I try to have days off and just chill at home and catch up. Thus we have no routine at all!

Hermya I love cosmetics too and stocked up on lots of glorious things while I was still working, whenever I get to use them they bring me great pleasure now!! I feel really decadent!

Re nappy rash - DS doesn't really get it as we use reausables/eco wotsit nappies and cotton wool & Water, also a nice cream by Earth Friendly baby - it's just zinc though so anyone will do. If you want to use wipes without chemicals, try these water wipes - wondrous things!

How are you doing nymph?

Belated happy birthday elsa

And we still have no routine and DS doesn't go for more than 3 hrs between feeds at night, though he can in the day if I can get him to sleep....Hmm

Wondrous snow here in North London - hope you're enjoying yours wherever you are!
xx

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 13:18

ha ha - clearly feeling bad about having no routine - I mentioned it twice in my post - sorry!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 18/12/2010 14:04

Dilly DS doesn't get nappy rash in his reusables either, gosh I love them. Where do you get your water wipes from? Ow about your nipples, could the pain be let down pain. Sometimes I get random shooting pains across the breast or a deep ache under my armpit after a feed.

Hun Thanks! Do you get on with the cushie tushies? What others do you have? I've been looking at the mini la las on there and I really like the look of them.

Nymph I suppose the hills would have been the worst bit of that drive. I'm glad you got back ok, but what a long time considering the distance.

Sam I'm going to be doing the same in the new year as well, I'm hoping that I can join up with someone and do a childcare swap whilst I go running or something in the mornings.

We have snow round these parts, I really hope it doesn't stick around for too long. We've got a long drive ahead of us in the next few days.

DillyDora · 18/12/2010 14:42

Hermya which reusables have you got? We've got Lollipop (terry ones and bamboo ones) and they are great but bulky and rather leaky (boy is DS a heavy wetter!) if I was going to buy more i wouldn't get them again. I think I'll have to get water wipes online from Amazon (£3.99 for pack of 72) I just think they'd be good for poonamis when we're out.

Re boobs, I don't think it's let down pain really - it happens when it's time for a feed and I get those shooting pains too...not nice!

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 14:51

H- once we got past the hills it was much better. Everyone really cautious which helped. We've been ploughed this am which is surprise!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 18/12/2010 15:19

Dilly I've got a real mixture, but I mostly reach for bumgenius, flips and easyfits. DS is a heavy wetter as well and in the begining out weeded the BG with the newborn insert, I started using the big one doubled over and it seems to have done the trick or I use the newborn insert and boost with a bamboo or hemp insert. The easyfits are a mix of bamboo and microfibre so DS's weeathons haven't been an issue. We did have a leak the other day though, mind you he'd been in the nappy for six hours so it was my own fault really.

Nymph I've been impressed this year at the gritting round here, once I get out of my road it's pretty easy going.
