It was SirBoobAlot; "Well aren't you just fucking fantastic - if only the whole world was like you! Stupid people who are benefits, they should have their heads boiled..."

treedelivery · 06/10/2010 22:07

MissJ - you know I can't help you as dd2 sleeps in dh's arms most nights, for some amount of time. Poor little thing :-( Can't remember if he is in his cot still? Our dd1 went very strange when she was ready to come out of her cot. That's why I mention it. She used to be really frightened in her bedroom. She was totally fine when we clicked it was the cot she loathed.

120 - my dh does lots in the evening, but no actual childcare as such. Wasn't sure if that's what you meant? He works a 40 hour week, plus 7.5 hrs commute. I still flog him at home though Blush

tea - glad to hear that NHS money is ringfenced, but entirely unconvinced by anything anymore. Until someone shows me solid numbers on how the mega rich and the mega massive companies are going to feel it like we do, I'm just not buying it.
He's asking us all to 'cut our cloth' like we are stupid and hadn't noticed there are some money worries out there. Everyone I know is scared, selling stuff, cancelling saving plans, reducing pension contributons, remortgaging, trying to stay afloat. I hate being patronised. I hate this bullshite spin the government is trying to sell us, that if we all grow our own and have nice street parties with bunting and remain all jolly hocky sticks, we won't notice them take money we were told was ours. Bah Humbug! AngryGrin

Off to see MissJ's AIBU thing.

teaandcakeplease · 06/10/2010 22:20

Yes Tree I can relate to what you said and confess I laughed a little at the jolly hockey sticks bit. Be nice if David Davis had been voted in not DC I sometimes think. I liked him a lot. Ahhh well it is what it is. Can I send you a very unmumsnetty ((hugs))? As quite frankly Tree you have a heck of a lot on your plate lovely, with H bomb, your work hours and money worries and your H's course etc. Life is hard for you, you're a good mummy, I really hope things start to look up for you. You deserve some good things coming your way. The spa day sounds fab and well deserved x

treedelivery · 06/10/2010 22:20

What a strange little AIBU. Hmmm. Jurno me thinks?
'Ooh, couldn't you just eat yourself?' is an great little phrase from someone with cupcake in their username Grin

teaandcakeplease · 06/10/2010 22:27

X posted with you Tree Smile

treedelivery · 06/10/2010 22:37

Aww. Thanks Tea. This last 2 years has been like wading through a Bp spill. The years before that since I got pregnant with dd1 were less bad, that was like wading through treacle.

I think what's pissing me off about the aftermath of the redundancies we lived through in 2009, and now watching the country go through the same violation of privacy, is the idea being put out that we in some way deserve it. That it's our own fault and we should have to justify every book we buy our child, every light switch we turn on.

I have never ever had a pot to piss in, and spend what little I have on whatever the hell I like. It is mine and I earn't it. I used to want to slap people who told me to cut back when dh lost his job.
Like going from a tight 30k family income [we had about £250 pm left for food/clothes/house keeping/activities etc after our commutes and outgoings] to living on my maternity pay, could in some way be made ok by not buying lattes and shopping at Aldi. Hmm
Fact that water companies, utilities, banks, phone providers and so on continue to shaft us with poor service, lack of investmemt and make disgusting profits.....of no significance. What matters is treedelivery must cut her cloth.
I'd actually implode with rage if I met a minister, whatever their party.

It's all a load of cross fire. Keep the little people busy working out how to meal plan for a fiver a week less, so they don't notice the latest huge tax bill to go unpaid, or the pre tax profits of yorkshire water. It's my arse. And my arse isn't pretty.

Ahhhh. I feel like a 16 year old socialist worker again Grin

treedelivery · 06/10/2010 22:45

Good Grief.

have been like wading....

I was being sarky with earn't but no one will ever believe me now GrinGrin Not reading anymore of my post, will combust with shame at the typos and lack of various basic things. Like full stops and what have you. GrinBlush

chefswife · 07/10/2010 02:24

Tree I can relate to the wading through bit. I just calculated that in almost 2 years, close to $12 000 has gone through our savings account. It has been skimmed down to nothing because of these two stupid trips to Ontario. I kick myself for not speaking up and just saying no, we are not going. We would have definitely been in our own house by the end of next summer, even with DH's $10 000 pay cut for this new job. I'll be winning the Lotto Max $22million this Friday though! Wahoo! Grin

tinkhasboughtoutalltheshops · 07/10/2010 09:21

morning

tree - luv leggings Grin

cb cut a right pain!!!

miss j - perhaps just too early to put him in a bed dd1 went in a bed @ 2 years and abit have bought dd2s bed wont try her in it till 2 years

cold here today

treedelivery · 07/10/2010 11:03

Very glad I didn't kill the thread Grin

Ah chef, just think, on friday you can buy a holady home in Ontario. Grin Sad about the savings though. It's a jagged pill indeed.

Cheers Tink, I just hope they aren't too massive on her.

Of course now I have spent the months pennies on Harriets winter clothes, today is a no coat and probably no jumper knd of day. Tut!

Hello all.

Know i have been rubbish at keeping up since back from holiday. Things been a bit hectic, then poor Esme had/ has been running a stupidly high temp. Is sleeping it off right now hopefully.

Have quickly made a listing for a gift bag of 3 of the rose clips i've been making. Will get round to doing Bows also & look into doing perhaps butterflies etc at a later date!

Feel free to nose!

Clips gift bag

Got to get something to eat whilst Es asleep.... Feel drained, be back to try and trawl through the pages i've missed later! xxx

120 · 07/10/2010 15:03

Tree, I think maybe we have similar political views Grin Just glad the tory conference is over and we don't have to listen to them banging on about it on radio 4 ad nauseum.
Not holding out a very positive outlook on how thinks will be in the world of public services come April.

Glad bee is back, your dd sounds ace.

Tea thanks for the offer of swimsuit...J is a chubster though so doubt it would fit. Have given up trying to wrestle him into the one we have, I just chuck him in with a swim nappy and hope he floats!

Books your haircut sounds good, I really liked yours too Tea...mine is long and rubbish at the moment, think I am ready for the chop if I can ever find time to actually get it done.

MissJ, hope N has a better night tonight, J is a pita when we put him in the bed, he just comes straight out again. Have put him back in the cot and he is sleeping through properly....so will probably try the bed again some time next month. I wouldn't stress about it if you are off to Oz soon anyway. I always think they get these things when they're ready.

Chef can empathise with savings, we manage to save a bit then end up spending it on someting dull yet essential...like a new ceiling or a clutch for the car. Being vaguely responsible is dull.

120 I am a r4 junky, have it on all the time, drives DH mad.

RAy, hope E is feeling better. WIll check out the clips.

Well jst got b ack from 26 week check and was told I can claim 190 quid for a healthy pregnancy grant....is this a new thing? Don't remember it from last time. Think it would be responsible to spend it on a massage and some accupuncture personally.

chefswife · 07/10/2010 16:36

Ray Poor E. When V was running her supper high fever like that I took her to the ER and the doctor said it was fine to do acetaminophen and then three hours later ibuprofen then alternate every three hours like that for 24 and the fever will be gone. It worked. I don't remember what the brand names are in the UK for those; here its Tylenol and Advil if that helps.

Books For the most part I feel the same with politics; either way, its about the same.

Guess what. He didn't hear me. At 3pm, they began they're shenanigans, but at least it was just as nap would be ending. How many women have been charged with assault causing bodily harm while in the first trimester and got off from the charge, I wonder. Wink lol.

I know there's some horse lovers here but I have a beef about a horse related subject. In Canada, there is a bill to stop the slaughtering of horses for human consumption and export. My friend says horses are for riding, not eating. My argument is that by passing this bill, it creates a cultural bias in that just because some people thinks its wrong, it should be stopped altogether. What if Jews decided the rest of us weren't going to eating pigs anymore, or Hindu's, cows. They find it appalling that others consume such meat. The major problem it seems lies for the individuals that began the bill in the way they are slaughtered, one shot to the head, which is proven to be one of the best ways to die, instant. I feel, instead of putting our cultural bias on it, we need to regulate the abattoirs as they do with any other meat industry, because if this bill passes, the industry simply moves to Mexico and that is not going to fair well with horses or the meat. I know it is a hard topic, eating horses, for our 'western ' sensibilities, but we should be more open for discussion here. I feel in the long run, its going to create a lot of waste too, because horse owners will now have to deal with the disposal of their horses when they are old and need to be put down instead of them being put back into the food chain as pet food. I know, not such a pretty picture, but don't we all live under the aegis of re-duce, re-use, re-cycle? After grilling her about it, she has taken action and is taking signatures for her cause, and quite frankly, she never would have had I not contended her on the subject, so that is good. On a side note, she tried to tell me she never eats fast/junk food, but as I've been out drinking with her and watched her scoff a hamburger between club jaunts and listen to her complain about her fat ass, I felt I should point it out but went the other route and just apologized for the comment because personal attacks are counter-productive to intellectual dialogue. Anyhow, just was wondering if I handled the discussion ok. I would likely try horse meat, just to try it, when in Rome sort of thing, but I wouldn't go out of my way and by it at the grocer or anything.

Hope you are all having a great day.

chefswife · 07/10/2010 16:39

HKZ Yes, I think it is very responsible to spend it on a massage or acupuncture. Grin

tinkhasboughtoutalltheshops · 07/10/2010 16:44

hello

rray - cute Grin

hkz - great news about grant and a great wau 2 spend it Grin

books - hair sounds great [rin]

missjackson · 07/10/2010 18:28

Yes hkz I am referring to it as the 'spa treatments in pregnancy' grant Grin... it does seem a little odd since most of the vital health in pregnancy bit is the first 12 weeks, and surprise surprise they are getting rid of it just after we give birth, I think April is the cut off. So grab it while you can! I think we just get the child trust fund too, and then that's gone Sad.

books the colleges take the horses for free, they get to use them and it works well for us cos it means they are well schooled and exercised by the time they get back to us. Haircut sounds fab!

R4 here all the way.

Loved the pics of Bee reunion tree

Must go and do domestic things now.

teaandcakeplease · 07/10/2010 19:28

I see what you're saying Chef about horses. Tricky subject and I'm not articulated enough to put any decent well reasoned argument across, I do understand what you're saying though. I love horses and feel about them the same as I do about cats/ dogs and so I'm probably rather biased against them being eaten. Heck I wouldn't even let my mum put the cat down at the vets when growing up as I couldn't bear it, so she passed away peacefully at home near me in the end Shock So I opt to bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening. A bit like Guinea Pigs being eaten in Peru and places like that. Ignorance is bliss for me, but I know that is not the attitude Blush

Glad you did kinda get a nap today though.

120 · 07/10/2010 20:17

evening all! Chef, hope E is doing better. It is so frightening when they get high temps. H does for molars - could it be that?

On the horse front, I've lived in countries where it is common to eat horse so don't really see it as an issue either way. Don't fancy eating it myself (but then again have probably eaten it at some stage and just not
known). Much prefer riding them, on balance.

HZ, great news about the spa money. You could always spend it on steak..

DP gone to a lecture about spartacus at the British museum tonight. Was a bit Hmm. Kids went down ok, so not an issue but sometimes do wonder about his interests! At least it isn't sport on tv, which I would find insufferable.

I'm not sentimental about horses - can't afford to be, and one of the ways we're reducing our numbers over the winter is to send two or three of the golden oldies off 'skiing' - but I don't think the economics of horse meat works out very well because they are just so damn expensive to keep (with high welfare standards). I'm no expert, but beef is expensive enough, and cows can eat silage (a sort of low grade hay) which horses can't manage on. But if there's a market for it, and they are kept properly, I don't have a problem with it - it would be hypocritical seeing as I eat high-welfare beef, lamb and chickens.

120 I could never, ever be married to a man that watched sport. I think that's my very bottom line deal-breaker. Would just about accept it if he also did said sport (wriggling out of offending pat and ray and anyone else!) - so OH is allowed to watch horsey stuff. And tennis is allowed Grin. Other deal-breakers would include ordering steak well-done and having tomato ketchup with everything (that stuff is not even allowed on our shelves). Anyone else have deal breakers? There was a whole thing on woman's hour a few weeks ago about them. Very funny.

Where's MM these days? The thread has been short on medical dramas recently!

missjackson · 07/10/2010 21:31

guinea pig, books, boak is right!

treedelivery · 07/10/2010 21:34

Evening.

Odd day, just glad I got through it! Was soooo tired. My first time going out of the house since the party on Sunday Shock

So the playroom doors are on. They look really good actually. Very very shiny.

Bit tired so won't do a big post, just wave to all.

Oooo but must just say just saw the Ikea cat advert and got the giggles at DOG's midwife again Grin
