Hello ladies, hope no one minds me taking the liberty of creating a new thread and approves of the name choice. We've been moving a bit slower than antenatal so though we'd most certainly have some year-olds by the time we finished this one!

scarlotti i cannot and never have been able to feed him in the bf position! When he took a bottle at bedtime, either DH fed him, or else I would have to fee him in a different position. As soon as I hold him like a baby, he wants only one thing. It is funny because he used to take it, for a while, and as I said in the daytime he will take it as long as distracted. Tenacious - oh yes! Not just with boob, but with everything he has! he has something woebetide the person to take it from him! Grin ok, I shall have to prepare myself then, not just yet though because he is currently only eating porridge!

scarlotti · 12/12/2010 21:17

I'd wait until he's back to full fitness then, and then get DH to do them for a few nights.

Tenacious is good when they're grown - means they'll go far ... it's just a bit wearing as their parent HmmGrin

skorpion · 13/12/2010 09:29

Morning!

I'm about to start Lucy on cow's milk, too. Not going to give up bf yet, as she only gets it twice a day, just wanting to get more milk into her. I have fears about her not getting enough goodness nutrition-wise, not a good season for fresh veg, and I'm a bit concerned about the calcium, too, as I really don't think she gets the 0.5 ltr from me a day...

She hasn't taken bottles since I gave her expressed milk very early on and she also isn't interested in milk from a cup. Do you think trying bottles again is a good idea? This late, I mean?

We're also struggling with what seems like a constant cold - I think we give it to one another. Lucy is really snotty and has a cough. Just got a letter about her HIB - MenC jab but this is bound to get delayed.

We also seem to have a LO with strong will on our hands. It's my way or the high way with her sometimes... I'll just keep thinking of the strong woman she will become Grin

GrizzlyMacDuff · 13/12/2010 16:56

skorpion dd refused a bottle point blank, we tried everything to get her take one as a baby, nothing worked. Then at around 9 months or so dh bought her a grippy one she could hold, just to see what she would do. she took it, put it in her mouth, then drank it all Shock, after the tons of money we spent on expensive mam/dr browns and it was a £1.99 sainsbo's owm brand! it also meant the end of breastfeeding Sad so worth a go especially as your lovely feisty girl might like the independence !

skorpion · 13/12/2010 18:49

Grizzly Excellent idea! I'll send DH out shopping. I am in two minds about end of bf... Never thought I would carry on this long (especially in those first few weeks), but I am sad to see my baby all grown...

FamilyWhoNeedsEm · 13/12/2010 19:37

It was one with a hole in, you know like those running bottles? basic bog standard teat too.

scarlotti · 13/12/2010 22:08

skorpion remember too that calcium doesn't have to just come from milk - when Ioan dropped all his milk feeds really early on I was concerned, so the HV reminded me of the other options - fromage frais, cheese etc. He has plenty of those as well as plenty of milk now. Also, milk in cereal - shreddies soak up a fair bit, as does weetabix.

helips · 14/12/2010 02:30

Hello all,

Sorry I've not been on much lately, been busy getting organised for Christmas and our trip home next week. Also, got visitors staying with us this week, plus ds' xmas nursery party and performances, its just all go here!

Millie has started walking! She took one step last week but started walking properly yesterday (when I wasn't around though, sob!) they are growing up fast now...

I'm still bf 4 times a day, morning, mid morning, mid afternoon and bedtime, although if I'm not around sometimes I skip the morning or afternoon. I think I'm going to drop one of the day feeds but not sure which one, might wait until I get home and see how I feel then.

I can't wait to go home next week, am hoping the UK gets more snow for Christmas!

Oops, better Dash as Millie just woken from her nap, hope everyone is well!

skorpion · 14/12/2010 08:53

Helips Go Millie! I am hoping for snow at Christmas, too. Hope the trip back home goes smoothly. How long are you coming back for?

Scarlotti Yes, she eats yogurt and fromage frais and cheese, too. And she has at least one portion of cereal a day, thanks. I suppose since I started back at work I worry that with lack of time I don't get to cook her nice meals as much (many a supper of readybrek with milk and banana... Blush). Mind you, they do feed her well at the nursery.

helips · 14/12/2010 12:41

Im back for just over two weeks, woo hoo! I can't wait, only 4 sleeps to go Grin

Skorpion do you just do 2 breast feeds now? Does Lucy have Cows milk or formula? I really don't know whether I should just drop a feed, Millie never refuses a boob if offered so if I don't cut them out I feel she will just carry on forever!

skorpion · 14/12/2010 15:08

Helips yes, just two in 24 hours, morning (although this can mean 4am sometimes) and evening. Very occasionally on my days off I boob her for a nap in the day as well. Going to try cow's milk, too. Yes, it's all come about with me going back to work - I'm sure she'd have more given the chance. I have no real urge to stop it myself, so will see how it goes.

ursigurke · 14/12/2010 21:02

skorpion, I'm still breastfeeding too. I guess for another couple of months. It seems to be the easier option compared to get cows milk in her. She does have a bit of cows milk in her (baby) porridge in the morning, she had already a couple of sips from a cup and she eats loads of cheese. I'd like to reduce a bit but as you there is no real urge to stop now.

helips, enjoy your time here in the cold :)

skorpion · 15/12/2010 09:14

Good morning!

Yaaaawnnn... Feel well and truly zombified today. After a few good (ish) nights Lucy's back to her strange sleep patern. 7.30pm till 11.30, not a peep, then for two and a half hours she was wide awake. In bed with us, fidgeted and crawled and moaned, took her back to her cot, screamed the place down, exhausted herself crying and in the end came back to our bed. She just won't settle. She does this thing when I stand over her waiting for her to go to sleep when she keeps opening her eyes to check that I am definitely there. If I'm not, she screams... Will I ever get a whole night out of her... Yaaawn.

MsInterpret · 15/12/2010 16:32

Oh dear skorpion, sorry to hear of that dreadful night. Feeling really tired here too. Mainly just end of term hecticness, plus trying to sort out gifts, festive travel packing etc etc etc Also, Rosa had her jabs on Monday and not been v settled since, though I feel bad complaining as it's not as bad as you've had it.

Well done Millie on the walking! R now walks with the pushalong cart thingymabobby and on our hands very confidently, which she had no interest in before. I am kind of hoping she takes her first steps when we're in Scotland over Christmas so other grandparents can get to see it.

Oh skorpion I feel that way about not cooking great food for Rosa when I feel tired. I find a quick one that is fairly nutritious is scrambled egg, along with some bits and bobs from the fridge - mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese. Almost an omelette I suppose. And toast with it. Is anyone else's child a toast FIEND?! Rosa can see, hear, smell and sense if there is toast ANYwhere in the vicinity and won't give up pointing 'muh, mush, MUH, MUH!' until she gets some Hmm

DWB Did you sort out the HV phonecall mystery? Maybe they wanted to remind you about jabs for Ethan? We had a check up at about 10 months but got a letter about jabs a few weeks ago. Rosa had imms and MMR in one go, poor mite.

DontWorryBaby · 15/12/2010 20:30

MsI Eventually found out this evening - it was the health centre with a query about my maternity exemption certificate. Wish they'd have left a message but a friend of mine said if her gp calls and gets her husband, they won't even say who is calling. Maybe something to do with confidentiality? Who knows. Will try not to worry if/when it happens again!

ursigurke · 15/12/2010 22:12

DWB that's a relief. I guess it is good that they care about confidentiality but they could as well realise that it is a bit worrying.

skorpion, do you think that she might need less sleep in total? Usually when Paula goes through periods with long wakings at night (rather than often but short), it seems to be linked to a different need of sleep. As if she wasn't tired enough for a whole night.
And I know the not cooking nice enough things. A friend just told me not about a book or someone clever who said to not worry about it if they have days with not so perfect eating. You should just make sure they get enough of each group over three days. That sounds reasonable.

MsI, that sounds so cute. Paula is not into toast, but whenever she sees a banana or clementine she smiles and says a very happy "naaanaaa"... until she gets it.

skorpion · 16/12/2010 08:55

Thanks Ladies, better night last night - woke up at midnight, 2am and 4.30 but was settled each time within a few minutes.

Ursigurke I haven't thought about it like that. It's true, she gets much more sleep during the day now (long nap in nursery, asleep in the car both morning and evening for at least 20min - half an hour). The problem is she sleeps when she is tired and I cannot prevent it, definitely not on our car journeys, the radio doesn't seem to bother her much at all. And I don't put her down for the night wide awake either... I'll make a point of observing her better over the weekend and the coming break to compare, thanks for the advice. And the reassuring words about nutrition, too.

MsI Rosa sounds good to eat! Lucy loves scrambled egg or omelette (spinach and cheddar a fave) and the other day discovered the joy of French toast with cherry preserve. When are you off to Scotland? Are you staying up there for the whole break?

MsInterpret · 16/12/2010 18:19

Oh yes, french toast! Tried that a long time ago when she was not really able to feed herself properly, but it would be great now.

We're off to Scotland on Monday until the 29th. As long as we're not snowed in that is. There's just MOUNDS of it at both my parents' houses and no sign of shifting as it's SO BLOODY COLD! DWB knows all about it I'm sure. Lots of visiting friend, running into houses and hanging out with cups of tea while the littlies play. Oh - and going to the pub while Granny babysits, woohoo! Grin

skorpion · 16/12/2010 20:40

Sounds brilliant! Enjoy :)

DontWorryBaby · 16/12/2010 20:40

MsI No snow in Glasgow... Yet! Well, still remnants of the last downfall which regularly ices up and makes walking treacherous but no fresh snow at least. I think it is expected over the next day or two. We shall see.

I'm not loving eastenders at the moment. So many storylines which aggravate my nausea. Phil and his "auntie", Carol and her dead son's bestie and the new Ben... Think I need to find something else to intellectually stimulate me of an evening.

Santa is bringing Ethan a ball pool. Grin

Hope everyone is keeping well! x

skorpion · 18/12/2010 14:29

Well, that's my shopping trip to Oxford done away with... snowed in!!

Hope you are all well.

JuicyLips · 18/12/2010 18:16

We're snowed in too Skorpion, was supposed to be going for works christmas meal. bah. Aunt Bessies Roast potatoes and southern fried chicken breasts instead I guess.

JuicyLips · 18/12/2010 18:22

Not that I'm at all bitter about it or anything...

Fruitpastels · 19/12/2010 09:32

I have been a awol for a couple of weeks. I have tried to catch up but not a lot is sinking in. C has another cold. He seems to catch everthing going. It's been a tough couple weeks with him and some restless nights again. But, on the positive side. He is cutting 3 maybe 4 teeth! Not so good that he's gone from having none to cutting so many all at once. He really isn't a happy boy and off his food. I'm so hoping to get over this blip before Xmas. This snow is a nightmare. I'm sure we're all feeling the strain of being stuck at home and not much for the little ones to do. DS1 is meant to be attending a party today. Not sure I can get him there Sad. I hope everyone is well Smile.

weston · 19/12/2010 13:38
