Well ladies, it's a bit in advance but here is the new thread, started especially early for Saartjie!

Roo & Jacks You were right, returning to work wasn't as bad as I thought. And I have rediscovered the joy of a good book and a hot coffee!!

Hev So sorry you're having to go through all that. I'm FCO so surrounded by civil service cuts too, and am very fortunate that I have a nice boss and that my job is still here for me (for now!). How long have you been signed off for?

Jacksterbear · 17/05/2011 12:02

Glad to hear it Jenko. Smile

Hevster · 18/05/2011 12:26

Jenko signed off for another week and then am guessing a further 2 weeks, going to speak to welfare on Tuesday and see what I can do about being shifted to another LM when I go back before I find myself up on a disciplinary charge for slapping her! Still vexed that after 14 years full time service (23 of them for her and with a lot of going the extra mile) you can treated like poo but heyho, I look at my 2 beautiful girls and try and think that in the great scheme of things it's not really important!
Hope you are all having a lovely day, we are covered in chicken and sweet potato Grin

Hev How's the PND? Any progress on the work front?

Can I ask you all for your opinion? I weighed DS at the weekend and he's 10kg (22 lb) Shock He's also tall/long at about 74cm, so seems in proportion.

I don't know what's going on, but he's bursting out of all his 6-9 month clothes and heading into 9-12 months. He's only 7 1/2 months old.

Should I be worried? Am I overfeeding him? He does love his food. He's started crawling now, so works up quite an appetite.

Jacksterbear · 06/06/2011 18:25

Hey JellyJ.

I looked back over DS's red book and at 7.5 mths he was 11kg and 75.5cm. I remember at the time the HV raised an eyebrow when she weighed him, then once she measured his length said "oh that's ok then" as he was in proportion.

The only advice she did give at the time was that if he was eating solids well, which he was, I could cut down on his milk feeds - think I was still giving him around 5 formula feeds a day at that point, and cut down to 3.

Aged 4 he is still big for his age (skinny as a rake but very tall), but only on 75th centile now not off the chart like he was then!

DD, bless her, is a bit more petite - 8.3kgs at 8.5 months! Smile

How is work going? I went back today - first day!! Was fine, bit of an anticlimax. I had no permanent desk, no IT access and no working phone line Hmm.

JellyJenko · 07/06/2011 08:47

Thanks Jacks. I was panicking that I had bred a giant!! We only give him 3 bottles of 7oz each - he doesn't always finish them though. Think I'll reduce that to 6oz in future.

Hope they sort you out a desk soon! For me, the novelty of returning to work has definitly waned! I'm exhausted and I miss DS terribly. We've got a holiday in July to I'll take a view then. Desperatly want a nice local part time job, rather than full time London job, but there you go. Fortunately our childminder is brilliant and DS doesn't even seem to realise I'm not there! Sad Grin

Hevster · 08/06/2011 20:18

evening ladies, I too have bred a porker! Boo has such fat legs that bumbo comes with her when I try to lift her out, the phrase round and fat with a cherry on the top is most apt and she isn't even rolling over let alone crawling! To my embarasement I have had to ask a mate for the 12-18 month girls clothes back that her 18 month has just started wearing!

no progress on the pnd or the work front, have shelved it all until we come back from holiday (1st July) and in the meantime keep popping the pills and drinking the wine Grin

jenko where are you off to for your hols? I have just put in to go part time from 1st Sept - think it might be a winning plan! if you think you are overfeeding then I certainly am but it's all healthy stuff so I wouldn't worry.

jacks you got a desk yet???? hope you are having a good 1st week back, is it as nice as i imagine to have hot coffee and not share your lunch?

doh! Hevster has killed the thread again......

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 14/06/2011 22:43

No I'm still here! Been manic at work. No desk still, and various IT fiascoes arghhh! Will be good when all settled down. Will post properly soon! X

JellyJenko · 14/06/2011 23:09

I'm still here too - just manic busy. I really don't know how working mothers do it all... Wine is keeping me going!

Anyhoo, no idea where we're off to on holiday yet. Somewhere sunny, cheap, last minute and baby-friendly. Surely that's not too much to ask!? Grin

KathMCB · 16/06/2011 12:34

hello! Sorry I have been rubbish. HAve been running around moving house and been on my hols. Will catch up with the thread better when we have internet in the house! Sorry to hear your work are being horrible Hev...sounds awful.

Hevster · 16/06/2011 21:13

glad not to have killed the thread Grin feel a bit slack with you all working - glad I am not though as after 6 horrible weeks we have discovered Boo has a cow's milk intolerence as well as her gastro thingy so working hard finding soya alternatives and cooking minging food for her (soya cheese is guaranteed to make you vom!)
off to sunny Minorca next Fri for a week, jenko hope you get a good deal and go somewhere nice

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 20/06/2011 09:39

good to hear from you.

Ooh welcome to the club Hev - DD too re cow's milk intolerance (and soya too, for DD). Hope u have a lovely hol.

All going ok here. DCs settling in with the nanny, sort of. Work is a bit all over the place still, with exam marking, and lots of working from home which sounds like it should be good but is actually a nightmare with 2 DCs in the house! Have my work summer party this week which I'm looking forward to, don't really get out much these days Grin. Also have managed to finally ditch all the baby weight so looking forward to wearing a dress and looking halfway decent for the first time in a long time Grin.

JellyJenko · 21/06/2011 09:31

Jacks Well done on the weight loss. I'm the same (just got to goal at WW), and it makes such a difference! Enjoy your summer party!

Hev Enjoy your hols. Can't wait to get some sun myself. Still not sure where though.

Yikes - think I need to re-check DS's DOB - he's got 6 teeth, crawing everywhere and is pulling himself up to standing. Time to lower the cot again! Is this normal for an almost-8-month-old?? Hmm He's also the size of a (large) 1-year-old Shock.

I know people say 'they grow up so fast' but seriously, can he just slow down a bit?!? I'm actually getting a bit Sad that I'm missing out on all this cool stuff..... if only I'd just had another couple of months off work....

Jacksterbear · 21/06/2011 11:58

Well done on the weightloss to you too JJ. Smile

Yes that all sounds normal to me!

Hevster · 05/07/2011 14:51

well done on the weightloss girls Grin tis great getting new clothes innit.
Hols were good and hot thanks and amazingly not as hard work as I had anticipated.
JJ laughing at your baby being the complete opposite to my lump of lard - she still doesn't roll over, crawl, pull herself up or anything - am secretly enjoying the lull before the storm...

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 05/07/2011 19:17

Glad u enjoyed hols Hev. We are off to France next week. DD is still not crawling either, am also enjoying the relative peace (and hoping the not crawling lasts another couple of weeks until the end of our hols at least!). DS was getting into everything by this age Grin.

Hevster · 05/07/2011 19:49

Jacks would be fair to say DD2 has not been encouraged to move at all!
How are you managing with the dairy free, I am finding it quite an eyeopener how much stuff contains milk! Have you tried the lactose free cheese - oh my goodness eating it would make you sick in seconds!
hope France is good and you drink the required quota of red wine Grin

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 05/07/2011 20:15

Yes dairy free is a pain isn't it, we have been advised by paediatrician to stay away from soya too, until 12 mths. The things I'm missing most are not being able to give her petits filous or equivalents, and philly sandwiches, which DS lived on as a baby/toddler. Have not really investigated the non-dairy cheese options, except a really minging "cheese" sauce powder I bought which is rank! Have been a bit worried that no cheese, cream etc will mean not enough fat/calories in her diet BUT she is a remorseless eating machine and has worked her way up from 2nd centile at birth to 50th centile now, so it doesn't seem to be a problem! Grin

Yes v much looking fwd to France, we will be near Bordeaux so I daresay there will be a few nice wines to sample! We are eurotunneling and driving down, it's about 6 hrs from Calais and I'm starting to question the sanity of this decision but hey ho.

How is job and health situation?

Hevster · 06/07/2011 20:26

Jacks glad you too have an eating machine, DD2 has gone from 50th to 75th centile. Holland and Barrett stock the fake cheeses including a fake philly and even fake burger cheese both of which she eats in sandwiches, our local healthfood shop do them as well.

we see the paediatrician next wed for Boo's latest issue as they discovered abnormalities in the tube between her left kidney and bladder when she was scanned a fortnight ago, hopefully it's not too serious.

Still signed off work but the doc thinks I'm improving which is good, however she has pursuaded me to contact Welfare and complain about my line manager who persists in contacting me and asking me to do work related stuff such as annual reports for my staff and myself, and to ask for a move to a different LM on my return - bit sceptical about involving welfare but will reserve judgement until I have spoken to them properly!!!

Very impressed that you are driving, hope it goes smoothly and the weather is lush. Unlike this time last year you can accompany your rich velvety wine with a large slab of brie!!!! (says she who is doing that right now!)

is your work going ok?

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 06/07/2011 20:45

Ooh thanks, will pop into Holland & Barrett, there's one near work. Work is ok (apart from STILL not having a PC or a phone on my desk Shock Angry). And nanny is ok. BUT finding the whole thing incredibly stressful, not because anything is going wrong but just because my head is about to explode with all the things I now have to keep on top of!! I constantly feel like I am about to forget something crucial or do something really stupid as a result. E.g. yesterday buying lunch in Sainsbury's I couldn't think of the PIN for my card, that's been the same for the last 10 years or so. Confused Can't help thinking of a thread I saw on here recently about parents who leave their babies in the car all day (with fatal results, often Sad) because they have forgotten to drop them off at childcare on their way to work... can totally see how this happens and am constantly checking my DCs are where they're meant to be!!!! Arggghh. Ah well I'm sure it will all settle down over the next few weeks/months.

Very Angry on your behalf re your manager's behaviour, that's absolutely not on! Also I hope the kidney/bladder thing is nothing serious and/or can be sorted easily. xx

Hevster · 07/07/2011 19:33

that doesn't bode well for me going back to work then, I have to write all over my hands now to remember things and 2 weeks ago left DD2 asleep in my friends kitchen and we had got in the car before we remembered her Blush
shocked that you still don't have a phone or PC on your desk - thats just wrong, means no sneaking on mumsnet or ebay at lunchtime....

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 11/07/2011 13:13

Glad it's not just me with the baby brain Hev!

JellyJenko · 21/07/2011 14:16

Hi all,
Back from holiday, and back to work full time. Working-mother guilt is properly kicking in now and I miss DS so much. I resent every hour I'm away from him Sad.

How is everything with everyone else?

Hevster · 27/08/2011 20:40

evening folks, been a while!

anyone still checking in?
