Well ladies, it's a bit in advance but here is the new thread, started especially early for Saartjie!

YAY!!!! Can't believe we're almost there! Was looking through the first ever thread last month, where we were 6 weeks or so with our fingers well and truly crossed!

:)

Roobear Grin Grin Grin You've just made my day!!

I finish at work this month!! I'm having a baby next month (due on 14th, so have a good couple of weeks either way).

It's all too exciting - should I be getting this excited 'in my condition'?? Smile

KFW · 01/09/2010 10:59

Good observation roo I am not due 'til 23 october, but it still feels nice to think I can say "next month" when people look agog at my enormous bump and ask when I am due!

I had my 32 week appointment today at the GP and he found her head pointing down and then got me to feel it! It was really cool, but it's surprisingly hard (I don't know why that is surprising - it is her head after all). Rather embarrassingly all I was thinking was Shock I have to push that out!

Hevster · 01/09/2010 11:15

morning ladies, hurrah for September!!!!
Went to Sainsbury's this morning and for the first time in months (well 7 months) I got proper coffee and red wine, nearly got some brie too but thought it might be a little ripe in 5 weeks time... stupidly excited about eating again when LO arrives.

saw GP yesterday and after lengthy discussion have been signed back to work from Monday (2 mornings a week) which is a real relief as work would have forced me to start maternity leave if I was still sick next Tues and tempting though it is not to go back I know I will regret it come next May when the sun is shining Grin

I'm 23rd too KFW

YummyMummy1208 · 01/09/2010 12:17

I'm 25th - close! RooBear/KFW!

1 whole month left of work (last day is the 1st of October), then a fun few weeks off with DS1 waiting for his baby sister to arrive. Grin

My colleague had her baby yesterday, a little boy - 8lb3oz! Feels exciting, were nearly there as iv followed her through most of her pregnancy and now her baby is here. weird!

Must be a relief knowing you can get back to work for a few weeks Hevster, must have driven you nuts being off for a long time. How long will you have back at work?

Hevster · 01/09/2010 12:38

yummy planning on be back at work until 4th Oct as it's only 6 hrs a week!
how exciting that your colleague has had her baby - reality is starting to kick in here but I can't wait to not be pregnant!

Definitely agreeing with all the happy thoughts about finishing work THIS MONTH and baby due NEXT MONTH!!!!

Also work have finalised my maternity cover, so now I can start telling clients etc properly, doing handovers etc and I only have 16 days left in the office. Woohoo! Grin Then a whole year off! (When I say 'off' I do realise I will have months of sleepless nights, pooey nappies etc, but still, not in the office - bliss)

Also DH just called to say my glider chair has arrived at home. He's being very restrained and not opening the box until I get back tonight. I anticipate lots of happy evenings with my knitting rocking back and forth until the baby arrives.

Hevster If I stocked up on that stuff now, I think I'd find it far too tempting! Have told DH there must be champagne in the fridge and lovely oozy runny brie waiting for me when I come home from hospital though! Good news for you about getting signed back into work. As you say, a bit of time there now will probably seem well worth it come next year.

BB Yes, DH is very sweet about his nightly chats to the LO. Though last night he rested his head on my tummy and got belted in the ear!

Why do my posts always end up being so long? Sorry everyone!

babybunting2010 · 01/09/2010 14:40

I spoke with my Midwife not that long ago and Brie is fine if it's pasturised, which apparently most of them are in the main supermarkets!

Am actually going to stay well away from Alcohol as think it might make me want to smoke and really don't want to!

Does anyone know if it's true that the caffiene in coffee etc... can affect the baby and give them a buzz when you are breast feeding???

LO's movements are actually really quite uncomfortable now! :( But love feeling them still!

I finish work next Friday and am only on a 4 day week next week, which is cool! I've got 2 weeks holiday that I am using before I actually start Mat leave which is the 27th or something like that! Grin can't wait, am so glad I've managed not to use much holiday the last few months so that I can finish early!

babyb re breastfeeding, the government recommendations are here

They say that you should think about how much caffeine (and alcohol) you are having because it can get passed on to the baby. Not very helpful! Hmm I am planning on sticking to the pregnancy guidelines, as I figure that they must be OK.

The government pregnancy recommendations (same website) are to consume no more than roughly 200mg or less of caffeine per day:

2 mugs of instant coffee (100mg each)
1 mug of filter coffee (140mg each)
2 mugs of tea (75mg each)
5 cans of cola (up to 40mg each)
2 cans of 'energy' drink (up to 80mg each)
4 (50g) bars of plain chocolate (up to 50 mg each). Caffeine in milk chocolate is about half that of plain chocolate

KFW · 01/09/2010 15:30

I am obviously not going to stick to the pregnancy guidelines for rare steak, salami or alcohol though. Grin I just won't go back to my usual binge drinking at weekends Blush

Hevster · 01/09/2010 18:35

Am not breastfeeding so very much looking forward to my coffee, however I can vouch for the fact that it's months before you drink alcohol in the quantity that you used to as it's just not worth it when you have to get up in the night! (or the next morning for that matter)

Morning all,

Thanks KFW much appreciated!

Well.... no to sound like a moaning minny but having a terrible day and no it's not even 9am yet! So the less said about the rest of the day the better I think!

Have literally been awake most of the night, saw every 30 minutes right up until 4.53 before I think I finally passed out from exhaustion! As a result feel sick and am sat at work, just wanting to go home! But to top it all off the F*Ing builders have just turned up outside our building with their god damn pneumatic drills! Actually want to cry literally!

:( Sorry to sound like a moaner but want to go home!

xx

Hevster · 02/09/2010 09:06

BabyB thats shit! sorry you had such a rough night and that the flippin builders are back - any chance you can skive off home?
if not then I recommend chocolate as if you ffeel sick already it can't make it any worse!

OP posts:
babybunting2010 · 02/09/2010 09:27

Haha Hev, great minds think alike! :)

Am finishing at 12.30 just scabbed a half day off! Thank goodness! As think I'd collapse if I had to be here all day! Going to go home and crawl into my lovely big bed and sleep for the rest of the afternoon!

We had our NCT Breast feeding class last night, was actually really good and helpful! :)

Have got another NCT class tonight as well! Which might just kill me but hey!

Hevster · 02/09/2010 09:36

BabyB, well done on getting a half day, less than 3 hrs to go - am tucking into the malteasers here and contemplating painting a wall of the lounge as it has marks where a bookcase was.

Glad the NCT was good, made some top friends at mine 3 years ago (can't believe it was 3 years ago!!!) and extra good that the breastfeeding bit was helpful.

PatsyIsPreggers · 02/09/2010 12:46

Afternoon all.

Sorry to hear about your rough night BabyB. Hopefully you'll be at home and tucked up in bed by now.

Hevster have you got any malteasers left? can you share them round on here please? Smile Was trying to be good at lunch today so didn't get any chocolate. May have to visit the vending machine later though...

Hevster · 02/09/2010 12:52

sorry guys malteasers all gone, might have to pop to Tesco express laters!

KFW · 02/09/2010 13:39

babyb that is so weird. I also had a terrible night. Weird insomnia. I was wide awake from 3:30am (at least - that's when i looked at my watch) until 6am at least Sad it was awful. I couldn't get comfortable, but what was worse was that I was just totally awake. I lay there with my eyes wide open, listening to DH breathing sleepiness. Most frustrating. I am now KNACKERED. The weirdest thing is that I was just complaining to a (non-pregnant) colleague and she said she couldn't sleep last nght either. There was clearly something in the air.

I have not been able to get the afternoon off, but I have managed to get myself a Kit Kat Dark. I love them. Grin Although now you have me thinking about Maltesers, Hevster. Maybe I will have another trip to the choc shop in an hour or two!

Tomorrow is Friday. I love short weeks.

DillyDora · 02/09/2010 13:49

Hi All, lovely to read your posts. Glad everyone's ok. I don't finish work till next month - bah! But it's fine cos I like it here, and I'm working from home quite a bit as the underground is horrible - could it be the bad air?

babyb I feel your pain re feet - having swollen feet has really upset me for some reason. I am now a connoisseur of compression socks and hold ups - even managed to wear compression socks at a wedding at the w/e so I would have ankles for the evening do!!! Soooo vain!

Anyway, not long to go (33 weeks today - yay) Did first antenatal class last night - was anyone from here there? In Muswell Hill?

Ok, question, honestly now, how many pelvic floor squeezes are you doing each day?

PatsyIsPreggers · 02/09/2010 14:03

Goshm, you all seem to be doing antenatal classes already. How are they going? Glad to hear your NCT ones sound good BabyB as I'm doing NCT too. I'm a bit nervous still about meeting everyone as I'm quite shy in groups and worried that I won't make friends. Mine start next Monday. Quite reassuring what you said earlier Hevster about still being friends 3 yrs on. I'm really hoping for that.

KFW Jealous of your kit kat dark they're one of my (many) fave choc bars. I'm off to the vending machine this very minute!

Hevster · 02/09/2010 16:39

Patsy hope the choc was good, loads of people seem to make friends at NCT classes so I am sure you won't be any different. These days it's hard to meet people when you are pregnant as everyone works, I didn't have any local friends until I had DD and now I have 5 brilliant mates and know loads of people Grin

Back on the anti sick pills and they are working....hurrah have had soup and bread and not felt like i was about to share it with the toilet Grin Grin

KFW · 02/09/2010 16:45

I havent started my NCT yet either Patsy We are doing an intensive weekend course on 18/19 Sept. I think that because it's intensive it wont be as easy to make friends, but I guess that most people going are of the same frame of mind and wanting to meet other couples with babies, so I guess we'll just swap numbers.

But check this: I got an email from the lady running it the other day and she told me that we have HOMEWORK (her word!) and that we have to prepare two presentations to the group, one for each day. DH and I are talking about labour positions on saturday and SIDS on Sunday Confused I did not realise that it would involve anything other than sitting and listening!

Has anyone else had this? I mean, I do a fair few presentations at work, but sheeeeesh I did not expect to have to talk about something I know nothing about!

KFW · 02/09/2010 16:55

PS Dilly - I keep forgetting about my bl00dy pelvic floor. The only time I do them is at yoga class or when I am reminded to by other means. I have just done a few at my desk after reading your post Grin so thanks for that!

Hevster · 02/09/2010 20:56

KFW- and I thought you were paying the NCT teacher to teach you?
We certainly didn't have to do anything like that, we did a lot of sitting, listening, looking around nervously and then I asked the stupid questions!
