Oh, and my little sis had her baby on Saturday morning, a little girl 6lb 1oz Smile but now who am i going to pass all the boys clothes on to?

Chulita · 02/11/2010 11:23

Yay for your sister alice :)

I've just spent ages trying to get S to feed, he's just not bothered. I really need to get him weighed to check he's gaining ok.

star glad your twins are gorgeously easy, I couldn't hack another one with S being the way he is! I think he might be getting a top tooth through having had a look but there are so many white bits I'll just have to wait to see if one actually pops through!

Last night was a nightmare, we were back to waking every 2 hours for some ridiculous reason. He might have been cold but the thermometer said 21C so he should've been fine. I'm feeling it today though! DD needs to get out and have a run around but I'm waiting for a buggy delivery so can't leave...

gya I'm soooo not ready for another yet, but then I'm massively overweight and really want to lose some before I try again. Good luck with your ttc!

pample I hope you get better quickly, that's not fun at all.

weehector · 02/11/2010 13:14

Hola chapettes, long time no see!

I've been reading on my travels but not really had time to post. We're finally home after 10days with my SIL & her family in Cambridge. A has been brilliant but I suspect my lovely SIL will still have turned to the gin bottle when we left. I'm well aware that hell is other people's children...and A going through a growth spurt meant that my boobs were in permanent display for my 16yr old niece & my BIL. Ah well, hopefully it'll all be worth it when A weighs in as a super heavyweight this avo.

In amongst the loveliness of multiple afternoon teas, I had a horrible experience trying to feed A in Selfridges book department. A disgustingly fat, dirty man was sprawled on the only available, but huge sofa. He was pissed off just by me sitting down next to him but went mental when I started breastfeeding. I now know that defensive mummy tiger feeling because I got immensely angry but channeled it articulately towards him & stood my ground breastfeeding all the while...but found myself shaking when I finally left. I've breastfed in public before but an hour trainride into central London for the day was a big trip for us, almost testing my new limitations & as a result I don't think we'll be going again soon.

gya you go girl. Not as brave but do find myself half wishing I could just gfi again..obviously, id have to have sex first...:)

Right gotta go weigh in. Hopefully check back in later if not consumed by Masterchef & mummy responsibilities.

girlsyearapart · 02/11/2010 20:53

Just a quick one to say thanks for all your positive comments! Smile

ElusiveMoose · 03/11/2010 09:02

gya mad, but yay Smile.

Hector poor you, that sounds grim. It's awful that bf'ing mothers still have to put up with this crap. Did the staff not notice/intervene?

Alice hurrah for your sis.

Life's good here. S is still sleeping like an angel (one feed between 7pm and 6-7am, usu around 2am). If DS1 weren't waking either once or twice in the night Angry I'd be feeling quite well rested. I'm trying to be patient with him, though - he just wants lots of cuddles.

Had my Mirena fitted yesterday, and pleased to report that it was completely fine. The whole appointment was under 10 mins, and the only uncomfortable bit was when they put the metal clamp-y thing in (I've always hated that, for smears as well). As for the Mirena, I didn't even feel it go in. Maybe one of the benefits of having it fitted quite soon after having a baby? A bit of light bleeding and cramps now, but nothing major Smile. And I do like the thought of not having to think about contraception for five years.

marzipananimal · 03/11/2010 14:15

WARNING RANT ALERT
I'm so upset and cross I feel sick. I'm on my third episode of mastitis. Each time I've been given 7 days of antibiotics (currently on day 3 of the most recent lot). From researching on the internet, you're apparently supposed to treat mastitis with antibiotics for 10-14 days. This is what NHS guidelines say. Why do the GPs not know this or bother to look it up? The last one I spoke to even said he was prescribing me a different antibiotic this time as he said the infection might not have been fully killed off by the last two lots. But he still only prescribed me 7 days. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! To think that these last 2 bouts might have been avoidable! I am literally crying at that thought.
Am going to the doc this afternoon to ask for more antibiotics and advice on my blocked duct which WON'T CLEAR. Gah!

As you were

girlsyearapart · 03/11/2010 14:25

Oh marzi have a (hug) doctors can be really rubbish for clever people! Dd2 has been to doc for awful broken eczema on her thumbs and it has got so bad because she puts them in her mouth to make her feel better. Doctor says she needs an antibiotic so gives her a cream.... So far all been sucked straight off again - sigh ...

Chulita · 03/11/2010 15:56

marzipan sorry :( that's so crap that you have to go and look this stuff up for yourself. Fingers crossed this'll do it for good, are you taking probiotics to try and keep the dreaded thrush at bay? Don't want that on top of mastitis...

gya we have the exact same problem with dd, her sucking thumb/hand looks awful but you just can't keep anything on it.

marzipananimal · 03/11/2010 17:49

feeling slightly less suicidal better now. GP I saw this afternoon took me much more seriously and gave me 10days of antibiotics, going back on monday to see if things are better. Feeling a bit depressed about the blockage though, just want it to go :(
Am eating probiotic yoghurt so fingers crossed no thrush

Chulita · 03/11/2010 19:00

Haven't had blocked ducts yet this time but with dd I always found DH was a whizz at shifting them cos I could tell him whereabouts to suck...might sound odd but I used to get at least a blockage a week so anything that worked was good for me!

thedogwalker · 03/11/2010 20:09

Hello all

GYA wow trying already. I must admit, it had crossed my mind and me and DH have discussed it. Have settled on trying again june ish next year.

Vix My DS has his jabs also tomorrow. I'm going to wait to see how he reacts, but I'm sure someone posted on here that they were allowed to BF whilst the jabs were administered and this eased the pain, so I might give that a go.

Marzi Bloody doctors eh, just goes to show they don't always know everythng. Sending you lots of hugs and I hope it all clears up soon.

Quick question, my DS gets really waxy ears everyday, is this normal Confused. I clean them everyday, which takes ages as I have to be very careful but by the next morning they are waxy again. Any suggestions?

Well I hope everyone has had a good day, take care x

girlsyearapart · 04/11/2010 06:04

Just to say don't count on bf ing while the jabs are given, I had to stop feeding in case the shock of the jab made her choke on the milk

vix206 · 04/11/2010 15:36

Well the jabs weren't too bad. I wasn't so worried about the pain of the jabs because I thought he would be quite good about those - he hardly flinched at heel prick and Vit K jab) it was more the after effects that bothered me.

Anyway, he hardly made a peep when having the jabs, and since coming home he has been very sleepy but so far no fever or real grizzlies. We even managed to go swimming this afternoon for the first time and he was all smiles :)

weehector · 04/11/2010 23:16

chulita Wowsa at your DH clearing your blockages for you. I think that would be a step too far for my DH who is turning into a curious mix of modern Victorian dad. Funny how you spend 15yrs with someone & think you know them inside out, then a baby comes along & you discover a whole new world of foibles & bizarrely specific parenting views.

2nd load of jabs here next week. Can't wait to go swimming but need new costumes for us both first.

Night, night all..it's all quiet here (bar the last minutes of the rainforest mobile) & I'm desperately hoping to get a chunk of sleep tonight..A has regressed to every 2hrs for the last few nights & I'd already forgotten how rubbish the first few weeks were sleepwise. Zzzz

bellygazing · 06/11/2010 12:33

Where is everybody?? Am really tired at the mo - went out on Thursday to salsa and came home to sleeping baby and sleeping DH, which was great, but for some reason, despite being physically exhausted, could not sleep for most of the night. Then yesterday E was a little angel all day but did not do very much feeding, and then cluster fed until 11.30pm - something which she hasn't been doing in a while, we seemed to be able to get her down reliably between 8 and 9. Anyway, it was the one night I really needed an early sleep which I didn't get, then when she woke to feed at 5am (which was the only feed, so good) she didn't feel like going back to sleep. Fortunately, DH took her at 6am so I could get some more sleep. Still soooo tired though.

bouncingblueberries · 07/11/2010 03:59

Fame at last for our chulita! a mention in the mumsnet talk round-up! Woo hoo!

Sorry, think I'm still slightly delirious. We've been a poorly household this week. Ds1 came down with croup last weekend, then ds2, dh and I have had stinking colds all week. Ended up in bed last night with a temp of 39 degrees. Still feel pretty rough now.

Oooops, better go, think I just heard some major nappy action. Oh the joys.....

thedogwalker · 07/11/2010 16:33

Advice/experience please. My DS is now 11 weeks old and he has always had a very good appetite, he is breastfed, however, since having his first lot of jabs on Thursday he hasn't eaten as much.

He ate normally on Thursday but Friday, Saturday and today he's only had quick drinks of breast milk and then he pulls off the boob. If I try and turn his face back to the boob, he cries hysterically, but if I sit him up, burp him, he is fine and then wants to play.

Is it normal for him to lose his appetite or should I be worried?

Chulita · 07/11/2010 19:42

Hee hee! I noticed that too blueberries [preens] What were you doing up at that time of the morning? especially when you're ill!? (I dread croup, is your DS ok now?)

Just went to the parents for a bit and have had a hectic few days, S is feeding every 2 hours or so at the mo, coupled with DD's nearly 2 year-old antics and it's all getting a bit manic!

dogwalker I have no idea about jabs making them lose their appetite but if it helps S has always eaten like that. He rarely spends longer than 5 mins on the boob and then pulls off. If I try and relatch he cries but he's fine otherwise. I always reckon if they're happy and have plenty of wet nappies then they're ok!

This thread is very quiet isn't it?

girlsyearapart · 07/11/2010 20:48

Hi all just took dds1 & 2 to their first fireworks display which was good tho they were tired as up past their bedtime ..
Tilly doing well though majorly going off breast-feeding will keep going as long as possible tho and have bought a new pump. Last night she had het record sleep of 7pm - 6am with not a peep in between!!! Long may it last.
Take care everyone

weehector · 08/11/2010 00:41

Scooby, Scooby doo ladies?!

Had a visit from glamorous ex work pal today - who brought cupcakes, tales of gossip & trips to Oz along with her Marc Jacobs clad self. I really thought I'd have started to miss my old life by now but I'm beginning to like being thrifty & living a slow existence. Changing nappies, old films on wet afternoons & making stew & crumble - who knew?

Lying here in bed beside a sleeping A. Having managed to get him to sleep in his cot before going in holiday, we're now back to square one after co-sleeping on holiday for a week. As DH is asleep next door and is up at 5 for work, I'm trying to decide whether to risk waking the whole house up by trying to lift A into his cot. As we're on the 2 hr feeds again too (sympathies chulita ), I don't know that I can be arsed & tbh I think it's probably not working because my heart's not in it - I love sleeping next to his wee warm body with his milky smells & snuffling sounds. I was waiting for a baby announcement from a pal in the States this weekend & when I discovered the announcement & pics on FB at 4.30am this morning
post a feed, I got a huge wave of love remembering A being born & I lay there looking at him in the dark like a mad woman - its weird that it feels nostalgic after just 12 weeks, some days it feels like yesterday and then at other times it feels like August the 16th was a lifetime away.

Quick q for those with older babies or those a few weeks ahead - for taking A swimming soon, what's best, swim shorts/trunks or a lycra or neoprene wetsuit? Can't believe the price of kiddie swimwear either.

Chulita · 08/11/2010 07:36

weehector it depends on the temp of the pool, I took DD in a cozzie in a very toasty baby pool but then bought a wetsuit cos the other pool we went to was colder. I bought in blue so it could count as unisex, they cost a fortune for what you get!
I get nostalgic about S too, I was looking at him last night thinking how big he was. Motherhood turns you into such a sap!
gya I'm very very jealous!

bouncingblueberries · 08/11/2010 10:26

major sap alert here too! especially when my 2 boys are together - it just makes my heart melt and my insides go all gooey!

Lurgey still reigning supreme in the blueberries household. Getting seriously pissed off with feeling like shite and coughing my lungs up (oh my poor shattered pelvic floor). ds1 seems to have bounced back (thanks for asking chulita) but ds2 is now back to waking at all hours of the night for little comfort feeds (hence my early post the other night!) - poor little sausage.

marzipananimal · 08/11/2010 11:19

Poor you blueberries, being ill shouldn't be allowed when you have a baby! I had a really nasty cold and cough a couple of weeks ago, there seems to be a lot going round at the mo.

It is a very quiet thread at the momoent isn't it? I've been avoiding posting until I had some good news on the mastitis, but I think the blockage is finally going. Not 100% better yet but it's a lot softer and a bit less painful to feed.
Getting very tired of bf being so difficult though!

Chulita · 08/11/2010 13:26

marzi I know what you mean about bfing, I've currently got a milk blister that's agony and I just can't shift it. Now it's started blocking up and my boob's rock solid. It's not a solid blockage though so I get the odd drop through but it's soooo painful and I just can't get rid of it. Had it for weeks now and is just getting worse :( Glad your blockage is shifting!

blueberries I think it's so wrong that mums can get sick. I only had a cold for a week and I was shattered what with getting up at all hours to feed and having dd all day too. Hope you pick up soon!

vix206 · 08/11/2010 15:37

Weehector Alex is only 10 weeks so not older but we took him swimming for first time last week in just trunks. He got blueish lips after 10 mins (in warm pool) so my advice is to get a suit!
