Lizzie how horrible, best wishes for your sister hon x

Bellygazing what a stressful thing to happen, glad all was fine. Must have so upsetting hearing LO cry like that & not be able to get to her.

Dogwalker I think ff is so much easier for many reasons. I won't say how much sleep I'm getting at the mo for fear of objects being thrown at me, but I think it's a lot easier to get them into routines with feeding / sleeping when they're ff. That's why I think all of u still bf are amazing & doing such a great job staying with it (& am a bit Envy if I'm honest).

We took Aidan swimming last week (he was 11 weeks). I've always been a real water baby so couldn't wait (quite surprised I didn't get round to organising it weeks ago really!) He's never been keen on baths so I wasn't sure how he'd react but he did brilliantly. Got him a little wetsuit - sooo cute (if a bit expensive for something he'll grow out of soon Blush ). We took him to the pool where DP works & had it all to ourselves which was great for his 1st time & to take some photos. Only thing was, as it's just a regular pool, the water was pretty chilly! LO looked a bit unsure about what was going on but we had no tears so that makes it a success on my book :) Plus I'm sure he'll like it even more in a proper baby pool next time.

www.bringemup.com/articles/12/when-can-i-take-my-young-baby-swimming.html

I found this helpful to give me an idea of some basic things to do other than just splash about with him. It's written by some parents who took their LO to baby swimming classes called 'water babies' which my little niece goes to. I would have loved to take him to the classes but can't really justify spending the money (abt £10 a lesson I think) plus we can't commit to being at home every week for them. Anyway, I found it helpful so just thought I'd pass it on.

LCRLCR - have you tried going up a size in nappy for the night - quite often if they are leaking or soaking through they do better in the next size up. I don't know if you are using disposables or washables, but if you are using disposables then you can also try adding a nappy liner to it.

Lizzie - fingers crossed for your sister.

Water Babies is brilliant apparently, but there are other ones too, am trying to find something that I can do but tricky with 2 as what do I do with one whilst the other is in the pool having lessons? I Just don't know!

cazzybabs · 28/10/2010 12:11

My baby swimming group runs a creche for siblings

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 28/10/2010 14:35

Sadly mine doesn't, too small Sad, so we have stopped swimming for the time being.

marzipananimal · 28/10/2010 16:09

Lizzie, really hope things are ok with your sister x

Joel had his first immunisations today. I never thought I'd be one of those mothers that cry when they have injections but it turns out that I am! He was so good for his baby check with the doctor beforehand but then suddenly went from sitting contentedly on my lap to screaming :(

He's asleep now, hopefully he'll have a long nap.

bellygazing I have nightmares about getting locked out of the house with Joel inside it. You poor thing x

soontobefatnat · 28/10/2010 17:28

Lizzie keeping my fingers crossed for your sister.

Bellygazing you poor thing. What a stressful thing to have happen! I nearly locked myself out putting the bin out the other day and that freaked me out enough...

OK, so today I'd like to have a good old moan about breastfeeding. It has been the main focus of my waking hours (day and night) for over eight weeks. Eli and I have struggled with tongue tie, thrush, you name it. We're definitely out the other side now and he's doing fine weight-wise, but I wouldn't say it has settled. He's a really fussy eater - 10 mins here, 5 mins there, never more spaced out than an hour or two, so he's on the boob most of the time. He cries a lot after a feed, but doesn't want more, gets really windy... I mean, that said, he's pretty similar on a bottle of expressed milk... I've seen lactation consultants, HVs, been to groups, watched videos, read books... everyone just seems to say, "he's windy and will grow out of it'... but I really feel like he could be a happier baby and maybe he just doesn't like the boob... feeling quite demoralised to feel like this at eight weeks, tbh.

hanks for letting me moan!

LizzieA · 28/10/2010 17:42

Baby still snug in his mummy. Sis has had steroids and staying in hospital for the foreseeable future. Wedding has been cancelled. The longer he stays put the better so every minute, hour, day etc is a bonus.

soontobefatnat · 28/10/2010 18:11

That's wonderful news Lizzie!

bouncingblueberries · 28/10/2010 19:22

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo I'm kent/surrey border ([whispers] the nicer end of Croydon...yes, it does exist!!)

lizzie keeping my fingers crossed for your sis and hoping baby stays in there for a loooong time yet

nat have a hug sweetie. I have days when I feel a bit trapped by breastfeeding, especially when the thrush flares up. But personally, I just find it so much easier than faffing with bottles. I mixed fed ds1, but so far exclusively bf ds2, so i've seen both sides. You're doing such an amazing job, you really are. Your LO might be less windy on formula, but might not. Have you thought about going to a cranial osteopath? SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo found it worked wonders for their wind issues.

G had his second lot of jabs today. Latched him on on let him get stuck into feeding before the nurse jabbed him and it was much better than last time. For the 1st jab he barely paused, just a wee whimper then back to the boob. The second jab was a bit more painful and he did give a wee cry but refused to come if the boob, so was making this funny sad noise with a mouth full of boob! So highly recommend breastfeeding during vaccinations if you can.

marzipananimal · 28/10/2010 19:46

Thanks blueberries, will try that next time. Actually I bfed him today while I had my flu jab - him comforting me :)

Chulita · 28/10/2010 20:42

Aww blueberries sad noises while feeding are so heartwrenching I find! I'm dreading S's jabs, I've dreaded them 3 times now and have to keep cancelling - just want them done so I don't have to think about them anymore! And kudos for writing out the whole of doodley 's name!

soontobefatnat I think we all feel restricted by bfing at some point but I can't imagine ff is any less restricting just in a different way. It gets easier once they get to 6/7 months and they're not feeding quite as often.

cazzybabs · 28/10/2010 22:48

from my facebook page... but check this out - it is so funny

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p007fpw7

soontobefatnat · 29/10/2010 08:43

Phew - feeling a lot better this morning. Thanks for the kind words. Think I got stir crazy by the end of the day yesterday. It's been a long week! Chulita I'm two days into a no dairy diet to try and improve E's digestion. Wondering how long it took for you to see results?

Off to the cinema with E today. Exciting! And then, this evening going for my first swim since August. A solo trip out!

Have lovely days all!

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 29/10/2010 09:37

Moring [hsmile]

Cazzy i saw that on your fb, very funny. Nice to see celebrities being open about BF. It doesn't bother me how people feed their babies, but having celebs being open about bf can only be a good thing.

Erm....have been reading but not posted in a day or so, so sorry if i get a bit muddled...

Belly i locked my keys and DD in my car when she was 7wks old. It was January and bloody freezing so she was fine all tucked in the car, would have been frantic if the middle of summer. The RAC were very helpful though and were there in 15mins (i owe a lot to the rac [hgrin])

Lizzie i hope your sis and baby are ok. When i was in at 28wks with F (and at 26wks with DD) having cotractions there were a few women who had had their waters go early staying in. I remember speaking to one (quite young) girl who had her waters go at 19wks and was in at 29wks still but baby still doing ok. Everyday really makes a difference, and she is over the 'magic' 24wk mark. Will keep my fingers crossed [hsmile]

We will be taking F swimming for the first time in a few weeks when we go to centre parcs (soooooo excited!) and have found a website where they sell neoprene wetsuits for babies at a very good price, so will get him one.

Think F may be teething too. DD was teething very early on, but no teeth appeared for a while and she always seemed to suffer more when they were moving around than actually cutting iyswim? Think F may be the same.

F slept from 10pm til 5.30am last night, then bloody DH woke him up!

cazzybabs · 29/10/2010 09:56

alice - I have a spare wetsuit (it is pink thinking about it but it is too bog for Poppy atm... you can borrow it if you want)

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 29/10/2010 10:15

Cazzy - thhat is very kind thank you, but think F will need the 6-12m one so worth buying one really (he seems to have plateau'd on the weight/growth - finally)

Not really wanting to go out today, struggling to deal with DD atm, so would rather just stick to staying at home with cbeeies and colouring in [hblush]

bellygazing · 29/10/2010 12:49

I'm in a good mood today because I managed to go out last night to my salsa class. I left early (not entirely because of concerns about E and DH but because the second class was only just about to start at 10pm and I was quite knackered) and when I got home, after abou 2 1/2 hours, E was pretty much asleep and DH was about to give her her 10.30pm feed. She took 3 oz while I was out, then DH fed her the 4oz we usually give her at 10/11ish - and she didn't wake up, sleeping until 3am. I'd got masses of milk out of the freezer just in case, but he only needed the stuff I had expressed that day:o)

Next week I am going to try and go for the whole thing.

Happy weekends people!

ElusiveMoose · 29/10/2010 14:33

Hi all,

Very quick post, as I'm feeling shattered today. DS1 had some kind of tummy bug last night, so he woke up twice to throw up all over his bed (we actually threw one of his pillows straight in the bin [yuk emoticon]), and another two times to cry and have a cuddle, plus S woke up twice for a feed, so sleep was in pretty short supply. The whole house still has a lingering smell of vomit, which is not pleasant.

Just wanted to say Lizzie, that's fantastic news for your sister - I've got everything crossed for her.

And Doodley, yes, I'm in Kent. Between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. Is that anywhere near you?

Chulita · 29/10/2010 15:08

soontobe it took 10 days for him to start acting better and 2 weeks til he stopped projectile vomiting.

elusive stick some toast on, we had a house smelling of diarrhoea earlier and I popped some chocolate cupcakes toast in which dispelled it a bit. Hope your ds picks up soon!

bellygazing Shock at salsa class at 10pm? what kind of loons are they?

sparkle101 · 29/10/2010 16:33

Happy Friday everyone, looking forward to the weekend. Have had a pants week, Izzy had her first jabs Monday and developed a fever Tuesday whch we put down to the jabs but nothing would shift it so we phoned NHS direct as her temp was 38.9, they advised us to go to hospital which we did, who then admitted us. Carried out lots of tests over last few days and it looks like Izzy has got e-coli. She has been on antibiotics since we were admitted and her temp has come down a lot so we were told we can come home today and go back every evening for her IV antibiotics.

Feel like I'm back to square one when Izzy first came home - i.e. not sure what I'm doing, worrying I'm doing everything wrong, that I won't get any sort of routine back. Feel isolated again which is silly as we've only been in a few days but just feel out of my depth again. Hmmm, I'm sure it'll come back eventually!!

bellygazing · 29/10/2010 17:10

sparkle you poor thing, that sounds mega stressful. Don't worry about doing the wrong thing, you spotted that something was up so you are being an excellent parent.

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 29/10/2010 18:09

Elusive, am around Maidstone but go to Twells quite regularly as have v good friend there.

Sparkle - sounds terrible, keep your chin up you will get back into the swing of things, sounds silly but I don't think the early evenings help as you feel like the day has gone when it hasn't iyswim!

I went out for the first time last night, not a sound from anyone here - am doing it again next week! Hooray!

BBB - posh part of croydon, are you mad Grin I used to spend a fair amount of time around there and then we moved Sad I find I miss Ikea and have no idea why!

Woodlands · 29/10/2010 20:08

sparkle how awful, glad she is on the mend now.

Oh dear... J is asleep and I keep trying half-heartedly to wake him or he'll never sleep tonight. The light is on and I have taken the blanket off and hoovered all round him, but he just opens his eyes and then closes them again...

starshaker · 30/10/2010 21:58

Hi everybody, hope you are all doing great. Only just found this (only just looked to be honest) and thought id pop in. Life with the twins is amazing and dd is taking to it really well. Trying to do loads with her so she doesnt feel left out, but it helps that the twins are so easy going and love to sleep Grin

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 30/10/2010 22:50

ds is super sleepy today and tonight - am thinking a growth spurt and not night owl returns - I really hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
