Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Opps! Pressed post too early!

Loving the new name Ego Grin

Dancing- Yeah, Teething can make them very unsettled and can upset thier tummys too.

Interesting day here! Hmm
My parents visited bring my niece (2.5mths)with them as they had her for the weekend.
What a disaster! She was a little silly but they really really couldnt cope with her at all and resorted to smacking her quite a few times. She wasnt being partically bad, just a typical stroppy 2 yr old saying No to everything and not listening. We went out for dinner where she was abit silly and again got smacks and shouted at. At times it was really awkward and embarrasing. We havent really left DD1 with them before and now both feel abit reluctant to do so. Sadly the weekend away for my 30th next year looks completely out of the question :(
They are both almost 60 so its a bit of a strain for them but definately an eye opener.

TwentiethCenturyHell · 31/10/2010 21:40

Pigley - :( for your niece, not surprised you feel reluctant to leave DD1 with them.

HBM - good name! Hope you have a good night tonight.

Dancing - DD's sometimes had an upset tummy with teething.

Christening went great :) Had a lovely weekend seeing friends and then a fantastic day today, very enjoyable. Both DCs were stars. DS quite grumpy during the service because he was knackered but as soon as the baptism was done I walked him around the churchyard in his buggy and he fell asleep. Looked very cute in his outfit too!

Darcey - it doesn't take long to organise, basically just phoned the vicar and booked a date once we'd decided when we were going to have it. We gave people about 3 months notice, but only because we had to organise a later date (so my DB could come) than we might have done otherwise so sent out invites as soon as we knew IYSWIM? A lot of our friends had to travel a long way so wanted to give them plenty of notice.

Re weaning - so glad we waited until later this time round, it's been so much more fun and successful, especially trying BLW. DS loves his food, he's only really sucking on things yet so I don't think he's actually eating anything as such, but he's really into playing with it and wanting to try different things. He keeps throwing himself out of people's arms to get to food Hmm DD was always completely uninterested so it's a nice change!

hormonalmum · 31/10/2010 22:44

I fell off the thread yet again but have come just to rant - will catch up with news tomorrow when older dc are at school and pre-school.
My mum tried to give dd2 chocolate today by putting it in her mouth - Hmm
She always gives the older ones sweets and treats and normally I do not mind too much as it is a grandparents jobbut this just made me cross
I havent told dh as my mum had always looked after one dc for a day when I have been working before. I have not yet sorted out where dd2 will go.

pamelat · 01/11/2010 10:20

Hi all, sorry me post but need help

Alex night sleep is horrendous

first night in own room last night, up 3 or 4 hours !!! he sleeps well from 630-10pm (wakes for dream feed) and then normally sleeps well until 2am for another feed but last night woke at 12 and despite bottle at 1am just wouldnt resettle until about 3am when my DH came up and took him in to the spare room with him. He got him to sleep by holding his arms down Sad sounds cruel but hes just so so tired and doesnt seem capable of sleep Sad

have cried today with how cr@p it allis and how exhuasted i feel

cant cope with it much longer. always done bath and bed routine and no prob going down and always been early sleeper, ie) 630pm ish but this is just awful Sad

Carikube · 01/11/2010 10:33

pamelat sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. I've posted on your fb status...

brb no weaning advice I'm afraid as we did BLW with DD1 and will be doing the same thing with DD2. She's not yet ready to really give it a go as she's not yet sitting up independently; we've given her the odd cucumber stick etc just because that seems to offer relief for her gums but we haven't gone any further yet. She's 6 mo in 3 weeks but I will be surprised if she's completely ready by then. I'm in no rush as I know with DD1 she didn't actually swallow any major quantity of food until about 8-9 mo. Bf is still going well so I'm not fussed about getting DD2 cut down on her milk feeds yet.

Had a busy day yesterday as everyone from my antenatal group with DD1 came over for a meet up - 14 adults, 7 children aged 19 mo and then DD2...the house felt packed! All the LOs were really well-behaved though (our house isn't particularly child-proof) and we all had a great time. DH got really carried away with Halloween decorations and was really upset that we only had one lot of trick or treaters round (I'm the 'bah humbug' one in the relationship whereas he's the complete child who loves decorations/parties etc).

Hope everyone has a good week...

wouldliketoknow · 01/11/2010 11:14

marking place, fell off again.
love the new names, will come back later...

hollyoaks · 01/11/2010 11:33

Hello, if baby continues to sleep and Cbeebies continues to broadcast I may have a moment to catch up. Wish me luck :o

luceeloo · 01/11/2010 11:49

pamelat - sorry you're feeling a bit blue. When I moved Chloe into her own room about 3/4 weeks ago, I bought some gadget by vtech (bare with me I'll find the name!) that both plays music and projects a moving picture on the ceiling. She loves it and just watches it go round n round til she drops off. Might be worth a go having some quiet/silent stimulation for him at bedtime to soothe him. Though I'm sure you've tried lots already. Hang in there.

carikube - my word, you brave thing, I'd go stir crazy trying to entertain that many people!

hell - christening sounds lovely! I need to get my arse in gear and sort Chloe's.

pigley - what can I say, your baby has a super dooper name! :)

molly - Sorry you're feeling anxious about going to work again, I'm sure baby will be just fine and give yourself time to adjust

holly/wltk - nice to hear from you both, come back soon and share some news.

Me post - just got back from the Gynae clinic following my surgery 10 weeks ago. Been told I don't need to go back for three months which is fab and that my bits are "anatomically perfect" and I have a "beautiful perineum" which just made me laugh. I'd never dream of putting those words in the same sentence!

rachelfruitloop · 01/11/2010 12:08

Hi Ladies,
I'm still reading, but have barely time to type much these days!

Just popping in to say that I got the Baby Led Weaning Book that someone recommended here, I think it was Pigley wasn't it? It is great, and definitely the way to go for Eric, he is not the type to be spoon fed. BRB I think it might be worth looking into, this approach might suit your baby better as well.

Pamelat so sorry you're having such a hard time with the sleeping. I'm not sure what to suggest. Have you tried putting the shirt you wore during the day in the cot with Alex so he can smell you? I did that with Eric for the first few weeks he was in his own room. I hope things get better. Maybe the first night will be the hardest and it will just get easier as you persevere.

Had Eric weighed Friday, 23 weeks, 21 lbs 5oz. My DS1 was 3 lbs heavier at this age but really didn't move around like Eric does (little chubster had rolls on his rolls but is a normal sized 3.5 YO now!) So Eric doesn't seem that big to me, but he's still right up there in the centiles. He is also getting on hands and knees and rocking now, and can scoot quite a distance backwards. Having to do an hourly Lego scan of the carpet when DS1 is at home!

Must go, Eric is awake now!! Big hello to everyone, I hope you're all having a good Monday.

OP posts:
hollyoaks · 01/11/2010 12:17

Ok, just going to catch up on the last two pages as I'm so far behind. Hopefully I won't miss anything important.

We're fine here, both dds got dressed up and enjoyed Halloween last night. Grace is definitely cutting more teeth and is quite unsettled at nights but only waking once through the night once she goes down at about 8pm.

Starting to plan to go back to work in two weeks and dreading it. I feel really sick about it and not least by one of the family members who are looking after them. She hasn't had much to do with them since Grace's birth due to a falling out with dh and I'm worried that she won't really know who she is. I have no concerns over their safety or well-being just how happy they'll be. :(

Looking forward to a long weekend in York with dh's family, staying in a large cottage about 5 miles out of the city centre. Anyone got any ideas of child-friendly things to do there apart from the train museum which is a definite.

Molly - I know how awful you must be feeling going back to work, though I'm sure once we're back a few weeks it'll feel pretty normal. :(

Pamelat - glad your dds feeling better after the chicken pox, hope you are feeling better too despite the lack of sleep. York, the lakes and Edinburgh are lovely for a short break, not sure of anywhere further south.

Dancing - pass on my love to Angel, hope she feels well enough to post on here soon. x

WLTK - I know how hard it is to work with little dc around. I used to prepare my lessons and mark in our office upstairs away from dd1 but now that's a nursery I'm at the kitchen table which basically equals no peace on a weekend and therefore lots of late nights.

Millington - glad your dd is over the worst too. We've started weaning too and I find it really complicated with regards to cutting down milk. She has porridge for breakfast and supper and she often wastes the bottle that goes with it, but I think she needs a drink. I might introduce some juice or maybe some water. Hmm

Tomlin - not sure if I congratulated you on your dn or if I just read it, but congratulations anyway. Hope your ds is ok. :) Grace loves her bouncer too.

twentieth - Blush lucky escape. Glad the christening went well. Grace's is booked for the 2nd january, so busy organising.

Itshappened - what an idiot he sounds, he doesn't know what he's missing, she doesn't need someone in her life like that. Shock at the bum shuffling though, dd1 didn't move till she was 10 months old (which was bliss) and no signs of Grace moving yet, we're still waiting for her to master the roll over. :)

BRB - nice to hear from you. DD1 would not eat anything with a hint of a lump in for a long time, not even finger foods so we resorted to stage one jars for a long time. She would retch and screw her face up at anything lumpy. Eventually at about 11-12 months she started to master finger foods. Do you think it could be the texture?

Luceeloo - nice name change, grace was 14lb at 22 weeks. Congratulations on your beautiful perenium, very Envy I think mine looks like Edward Scissorhands!

HB4/ego - we're setting fireworks off in the garden if the cottage we've rented for the week. We'll be having sausages, burgers, jacket potatoes and pies too. Looking forward to it, this is a great time of year for kids, full of magic. Clever name change. :)

Pigley - poor dn :(, I hate smacking. It's my 30th early 2012 so maybe we can work out a rota for babysitting duties. :o

Hormonal - hi again, I know where your coming from, my dsis gave Grace a skip weeks ago, I was furious. Angry

Carikube - your house sounded manic yesterday, I'm with your dh on decorations. Roll on dec 1st.

Phew! Grace woke up during that, had a bottle and is back down.

hollyoaks · 01/11/2010 12:19

Rachel - x-post, wow another mover. Mine take ages to roll over but I'm not complaining. :)

wouldliketoknow · 01/11/2010 13:40

hi all
not a very good morning here

we need to remortgage so i need some info from the bank, so i called the number on all correspondence, after 15 min, just been told sorry this isn't the right number, so called the new one, after 50 min waiting gave up and hung up. this has made me late so i had to cancel the app in the bank, couldn't make it to rhymetime, and feel now very frustated.

luckily oscar is asleep, so i am going to watch the bloody soap see if i get in a better mood, and then i'll do some housework.

i have complaint to the watchdog about my mortgage co.

p.s. who got a quote in the newsround, put a link, i like to read it...

egopostulosomnus · 01/11/2010 18:59

wow, moving babies! amazing

lucee, nice perineum comments ha ha i wouldnt know whether to be flattered or mortified

no sleep in this house Sad
having said that, virginia is in her cot now after another beatrix potter story-jemima puddleduck-i would go to bed but i have to feed the rest of the family (and myself) and ocado are delivering tonight too

pamelat, hope you get some sleep tonight!

much love to you all x

pigleychez · 01/11/2010 20:43

Hell- Glad to hear you had a fab day Sunday. Its lovely catching up with friends isnt it :)

Hormonal- Yep, My mum is the same. Its one of the reasons im not ready to leave Lucy with her and didnt leave DD1 with them either as I know they would of been sneaked the odd sweets/choc as babies. Mum was trying to persuade me to give Lucy Ice cream on Sunday.

Pamlet- Sorry to hear things are so tough. They dont use sleep deprivation as a form of torture for no reason.
If he settled with his arms held down have you tried Swaddling? ( Im sure youve already tried it amongst many others, so feel free to ignore me!) Lucy also enjoys the lullabys that her Monitor plays.

Carikube- We too had a kiddies Halloween party and covered the house in fake spiderwebs, and decorations. Its was great fun with 5 under 3's. We did some craft activities, Biscuit decorating and dancing. DD1 was beaming as she was so happy Grin

Luceeloo- Congrats on the Perfect downstairs! Grin

Rachel- Yes it was me with the book... Its my BLW bible :) It makes so much sense when you read it doesnt it.
Sounds like Eric wont be long till hes on the move!!

Holly- Long weekend sounds fab!
We too arent smacking fans so feel abit Hmm about it all. I do think its thier age and the fact that they had been up since 4am with her that they struggled but still no excuse really.

Lucy is such a super cutey! She has such a beaming smile that I just love, love, love! Grin Shes so interested in Toys, especially the noisy and flashing lights ones. DD1 is being very sweet with her giving her toys and showing her how they work etc. First thing she says to her in the mornings is "Hello Lucy, Did you have a good sleepy?" In fact she has been very sweet with us too and started saying I love my mum/dad. Today she hugged me telling me I was "best in the world" Grin Proud mummy.

Im off to take baby snaps of my friends little 5 week old tomorrow. Newborns are much easier to snap ( Saying shoot sounds so wrong!) as they are still :) I'll have to try and not get broody!

Hope everyone gets a decent amount of sleep tonight. We still have 1 sometimes 2 waking for feeds a night but generally goes back off easily.

pamelat · 01/11/2010 20:44

Hello all, after calling DH sobbing at work about how I couldnt cope he has very kindly offered to do all of Alex resettling tonight. My turn tomorrow night. Think night on night off may work for us.No matter how bad a night is you get through the next day knowing you can have a full nights sleep ... maybe.

We will see how it goes.

TomlinTowers · 01/11/2010 22:39

Hi All

Have read all posts and will reply properly later but just wanted to reply to hollyoaks about things to do in York as I live here Wink!

We love:

National Railway Museum - there is a road train that goes from outside the Minster which I think is £2 each, or you can park in an NCP near the NRM (literally next door) which is something like £4.50 for a whole day. The NRM car park charges £7 and is no closer so avoid.

Yorkshire Museum - in the Museum Gardens - big interactive displays which are fab but I think quite pricey to get in.

If you are a member of the National Trust, Beningbrough Hall is worth a visit, fab playground for toddlers and older and brill cream tea.

Bettys!

The Farmers Cart is a lovely farm shop with loads of animals and they are starting their Xmas range from 5th Nov I think - on the road out from York to the Coast - A64.

Yorkshire Coast is also worth a visit but I seem to remember you live near the East Coast so probably a bit of a busman's holiday for you!

If you fancy some shopping then there is a brill playground under cover at the Macarthur Glen designer outlet and all the shops are indoors.

I'll keep thinking!

Wil catch up properly later - DD just waking up thank goodness - she didn't feed properly at 6.30 feed and my boobs are going to explode if she doesn't feed soon....!

TwentiethCenturyHell · 02/11/2010 07:47

Wow to all the moving babies! Corin shuffles himself towards things if he wants them, and rolls over to get things. It's cute, but at night he wants me, so keeps rolling over towards me and then gets upset because he can't sleep Hmm

Pamelat - hope you had a good night's sleep. We did night on, night off with DD and it worked a treat :)

Lucee - glad your op is all good and you have such a lovely perineum Grin

WLTK - :( at your mortgage company, hope you get it sorted soon.

BRB - have you tried BLW? It is quite a fun approach and works for some babies. My DNephew hated food until sis gave him stuff to feed himself and then he went mad for it.

We had a busy day yesterday, new boiler being installed so we went to my parents (no hot water, no heating, front door open and DD needed to be confined to one room here so not practical to stay). DD had a fun time playing with her 7yo cousin who was very very sweet with her. I had to give Corin food on the hoof but he ended up eating a whole bag of Organix spicy tomato stars, a large cheesestraw, some bread, cucumber and some avocado. Oh, and some apple ricecakes Hmm I wasn't expecting him to be actually taking it that much already!

Very scary though, I was on the phone to DH and then DD disappeared. We realised the front door was open and Dad found her halfway up the road into the vilage, chatting with some teenagers. We think she was on her way to get sweets from the shop. She'd crossed a road and everything :( Luckily it's a very sleepy little village but scared the life out of me. Mum and Dad are going to get a bolt on their door, she can't open the one at home but obviously can open theirs Shock

egopostulosomnus · 02/11/2010 18:53

Shock at wandering DD you must have been frantic, so glad she is ok.

brightredballoon · 02/11/2010 21:20

Hey ladies.

Thanks for all the advice on weaning. I bought DD2 a nice new highchair today (with DD1 and DS I just had the basic Ikea one which was very easy to clean but not very comfy for them to sit in for long). DD2 much more comfortable not and had her up by me whilst I was preparing each meal today and just offered her fingers of toast, some porridge, finger of sandwich, fruit and then tonight some plain pasta, steamed carrot sticks and yoghurt. She gummed a lot of it and retched on a bit but I think she liked the variety. So, perhaps BLW is the way to go for her?

I am confused about what they are allowed to eat at 6months - is it everything except honey? I was very cautious with DD but as my sister pointed out if they were to get allergies would they not get them at 8/9 months anyway regardless of whether they were offered the food at 6 months?

Can't believe DD2 is now 27wks old, and as has been the case with my other two DC, my Dsis has announced she is expecting her DC3 so it makes my DD2 not seem the baby anymore!

Lovely to be reading how you are all getting on. Boo for those returning to work but I am sure you will get a nice smooth routine going. I am thinking of returning to work in February but the thought of childcare is scary as I will have a school child, preschool and a baby all day to find childcare for eeek!

mollycuddles · 03/11/2010 06:33

Morning. I'll try to do personals later (will have access to computer all day and might manage it during an expressing break). But it's d-day. Just have to keep reminding myself that she's worth the pain of leaving her. And hope I don't forget anything. It'll be easier once I get into a routine.

wouldliketoknow · 03/11/2010 10:30

hi all just an anouncement

no, i am not pregnantGrin

now i got your attention,... i got like seven coupon of one euro off for cow and gate formula 3 to use in ireland, if anybody want them and knows of someone who can use them i'll hapilly mail them.

personals later.

mollycuddles · 03/11/2010 10:52

:) wltk - didn't think formula companies were allowed to have special offers. No good to me - am still ebf - and sitting here at work with L boob out in the pump! Oh joy! Good job there's a lock on my door.

BRB - my ds hated spoon feeding before there was such a thing as blw but he loved feeding himself. Tbh it's much easier IMO

heffa/hell - eek scary stuff re DD. Corin sounds like he has this eating sorted already. Hope Molly takes to it as well! 17 days to go (going by your 180 day deadline ego - where did you read that as the WHO recommendation? I thought I'd have to wait until 24th but 20th would be so much better as it's a weekend and I don't want DH to have all the fun)

I love York tomlin and hollyoaks I got my first period at Jorvik which was a tad traumatic but lovely city.

Hope alex is behaving better pamelat - had a dreadful night with Molls on Monday. Better last night though. Phew.

Hope shooting the newborn went well pigley - Halloween party sounds great. I didn't bother this year but usually do. Maybe next year. Are you broody yet?

That's me for now - off for coffee as boobs have done their job. Mega crazy patient at 11.10. Wish me luck :)

wouldliketoknow · 03/11/2010 11:39

hi all

laundry is on the line and baby clean and fed, as am i.

molly, wow, back to work...how are you adapting, i am dreading it, and don't know any details yet, which make me nervous, but that's public sector for you, everything can be done at the very last minute.
re: coupons, they can only do it for the number 3, for after six months, so they don't attempt to disrupt bf, but you go as long as you can, well done!, they are in euros anyway, so i guess they are only good for republic of ireland
brb i haven't tried anything yet, but oscar will be 6 months on the 6th, so we'll start that week, i am going to do purees, but i'll let him have pieces of whatever he's having to see what he prefers, my dniece didn't like the purees, so manufacteres jars for her, silly dsil, ...in spain, a pedietrician does the weanning with you, and they reckno there is an order to introduce food groups, i have a leaflet they gice you:

  1. fruit, banana, apple and orange, first, after a week you can add one fruit at the time, any is good, but strwberries after a year.
2 after about a month, vegetables, green, potato, tomamto, carrot, runner beans, etc... spinach and beeroot only once a week
  1. after a week, you can add meat, no liver or brains
  2. at nine months you can add fish, white ones first, oily later. you can also add the yellow of the egg[forgot that word emoticom] but just half, no white until a year. also inrtoduce natural yougurt.
no salt added, just a tiny spoon of olive oil. hell dd sounds like a ventourous young lady pigley love newborns, don't get broody just yet...

gotta go, monster calling, hope everybody is getting good nights

pigleychez · 03/11/2010 13:13

Hell- How scary DD letting herself out Shock
DD1 has started opening our door (only when we are about to go out) but ive been drumming it into her that she only opens the door if Mum says she can and i think its been working.

Brightred- DD1 had everything from the start apart from honey, nuts and anything too spicy. She was eating mild currys, chilli's and garlic bread at 6mths! She now eats some pretty hot and spicy stuff that really suprises us sometimes.
I know what you mean about not being the baby anymore. What with my new 6week old baby niece and my sister due her number2 in Jan, poor little Lucy wasnt the baby for long.

Molly- Hope your first day back is ok. Im sure Molly will be just fine and you have that lovely smile to go home to :)
I was getting slightly broody after yesterday! We even managed to resume things in the bedroom! But def no plans for another just yet!

WLTK- Interesting hearing about how thing do things in Spain.

Got Lucy weighed this morning. Shes now 25 weeks and 15.4. Dropped alittle from the 50th line but nothing drastic and as shes more active shes burning more off.
Also did Painting with the girls this morning and managed to get some handprints of Lucy done for her babybook (Just need to find the time to actually write in it now!)

Lucy slept 8-6 last night!! First time since about 3mths when her sleep took a nose dive! Hoping it continues!!

Looking forward to Tomorrow as DD1 starts at a new Ballet school! Fingers crossed this ones more sucessful! Parents dont stay though which im abit nervous about as ive never left with anyone like that before. Im welling up just thinking about it! Blush

pamelat · 03/11/2010 13:43

Hi all, annoyingly come to accept that alex only sleeps well (well, semi ok) if I stay in the house for his lunch time nap

In the house he will have 2.5 hours, out its only ever 30 mins. Its quite restricting but its better than being up all night

We are back to 2am bottle and one dummy/cuddle at 5am. A thousand times better than up for 4 hours crying and just awake. Its true, the more sleep he has in the day, the more he sleeps at night

Re weaning, Alex 24 weeks now and has had carrot, pear, apple, breadstick, petit filous (loves them!!) and avocado. I confess to quite a few jars too, with the lack of sleep and toddler to look after, I dont seem to have the time, maybe should drag myself off here!!
