He's almost dropped a proper day time nap (not that we want him to..!). But if he does, it's for about an hour - usually late morning.

About 3 people at work have said how good and rested I look this week - even a few days of having more sleep and I feel soooooo much better!!

Fennel · 14/09/2005 16:49

hi dot, glad to hear you had a good holiday.

mine are all sleeping in this week, I think cos DP looked after them for 4 days and he is casual about time so got them all going to bed late and getting up late - excellent! I must go away more often....

hewlettsdaughter · 15/09/2005 19:54

Hi all - congrats on the sleeping, Dot and Fennel (changing bedtime doesn't seem to make much difference to us - ah, well...)

Fennel, I just did a search for the Woodcraft Folk on mn and saw that you had expressed an interest in it. I guess your dds are too young to go at present - do you have friends whose children go? I'm thinking of sending ds.

TracyK · 15/09/2005 19:58

TV is out of the lounge just now for the painter to paint - so poor ds had no Dora tonight - BUT he got to snuggle in our bed and watch Sign Along Disney. He was so cute I let him watch it twice and he'd still be there with me snuggled beside him if dh wasn't coming home later!
He likes me to hold his hand and everynow and ten he'll turn his face to me for me to rub my nose on his a la eskimo - I could just eat him up!!

lunavix · 16/09/2005 16:06

Ds still loves tweenies and noddy, he watches noddy in the mornings, usually the crap show on before it too, then sometimes I put tweenies on at 5 when I'm sorting dinner out. He's banned from the song tweenies videos as he just sits and stares and drool comes out the corner of his mouth...

I made a big change and over night dropped his morning bottle from 9 to 4 oz (!) and night time from 9 to 7 and he hasn't noticed!!! Will watch his calcium though as he gets milk on weetabix but that's it cos he doesn't eat cheese and I limit fromage frais/yogurts cos of calories! He still has a big belly! He gets a biscuit with his bedtime milk though, cos I like cuddling on the sofa watching scrubs and with him nibbling a biscuit and drinking his milk

He's not hugely affectionate, not big on kisses or anything but he runs up for a cuddle occassionally. He's very independent, we went to playgroup today and he played outside with the cozy coupes (crazy coupes?) for nearly 3 hours...

He's also learnt my name (as in the one dh calls me!) and takes great delight in calling me it and me going, no that's mummy to you!

He's starting to show us what he wants too (he hasn't done this before even though a lot of your lo's have!) he's always done the sign for milk, but if he wants to go out he now walks to the pushchair and tries to climb in, or tries to put his shoes on. He can turn the tv on and change channels, and he can change cds at MILS and put her tweenie song cd on! Then he dances which is SOOOOO funny!

Sorry I'm raving a bit I just think this is the cutest age yet.

TracyK · 18/09/2005 14:26

How much milk should they be on Luvanix? ds also gets 4oz before breakfast and 7 or 8 oz at bedtime.
I am shocked - put ds down in his cot for his lunchtime nap for the first time since last Xmas (he usually naps in the car coming home from nursery and Sat/Sun I time my run to the shops with his nap). Worried about the looming Winter I thought I'd try his cot - not really thinking it would work - BUT with a few mins of face stroking he nodded off! I am well pleased! Lets hope it will work again!

Fennel · 18/09/2005 20:58

HD, i do know people whose children go to Woodcraft folk, i am considering it but put off by the realisation you have to go with them til they are 8 - i don't really need any commitments in the evenings to have to go to. may try it in a year or two so would be interested to hear how you get on.

HMC are you around? you have made it to a Missing Mumsnetter thread - there's fame. (isn't she on holiday somewhere sunny, or was that a few weeks ago now).

TracyK my dds are addicted to Dora the Explorer. but cos we don't have Nick Junior channel there is only one episode a week on ITV - so far we have 3 recorded and they know them by heart. but dd3 doesn't watch - I am amazed that other babies this age will watch tv. dd3 just pootles around.

lunavix there is calcium in lots of food besides dairy - dried fruit like apricots and figs. dark green veg. fortified breakfast cereals. (I have vegan friends they keep me informed of these things).

dot1 · 18/09/2005 21:45

Television's getting quite tricky in our house - ds1 is really into Star Wars (!!) and Toy Story, which ds2 doesn't even notice, but he LOVES Teletubbies and Fimbles, which ds1 now thinks is "boring". Oh dear - fights over the telly for the next 18 years here we come...

Ds2 is also being v.v. cute at the moment - is really into counting, which at the moment goes "three, three, four, six!". Bless..!! He's also obsessed with saying goodbye to everything whenever he leaves a room, which is sweet but irritating at the same time. And has started trying to feed his toys and chats to them quite a lot. Soooooo cute!!

hewlettsdaughter · 19/09/2005 16:51

lunavix - I agree, this age is a lovely age (can be hard work though!)

TracyK - re milk, I think about a pint of milk a day is a good guide, but obviously kids vary in how much they want.

Fennel - I'm taking ds (6) to Woodcraft Folk tomorrow, and noone has said I have to stay!

dot - is it really ds2 who's counting (not ds1?) . DD isn't really saying much at all.

DD is another pootler, rather than telly-watcher, though dh did introduce her to the tubbies the other day - she seemed quite keen.

dot1 · 20/09/2005 08:37

HD - I know - it's really freaky! But having seen how ds1 caught up with everyone else with his speech, I'm under no illusions that ds2 is particularly clever - he's just a chatterbox!!

And frankly I think the most clever thing he's doing at the moment is SLEEPING!!! dp and I are almost starting to feel human, and I've started going walking in the evenings in an effort to shift some weight - was too exhausted before, but hopefully I can lose a couple of stone...!

Fennel · 20/09/2005 09:58

sleeping is definitely more important than talking

MrsDoolittle · 20/09/2005 10:31

Hi Ladies, I'm back! Badly jet-lagged and pleased to be back in my own bed.
Can't believe how much dd has come on. It's so obvious since we have got back. She still chats non-sensically but she is soooo loud, far less obvious in the wide-open spaces of New Zealand.
She started walking over a week ago but she own't do it unless she really has to. She is still throwing her arms up in the air to be picked up!

Fennel · 21/09/2005 09:55

hi Mrs D, how was the flight?

when are you moving to Newbury?

HD how was woodcraft folk?

MrsDoolittle · 21/09/2005 10:48

Hi Fennel,
The flight over was packed but not as bad as I expected. Infact the very worst part was leaving LA for Auckland, the flight was late loading - 10pm, dd was knackered anyway and she screamed from as soon as we sat down until the seat belt lights went out and we could put her down in the bassinet. Honestly, she was so upset I felt like I was torturing her, I had never seen her so upset. Passengers close by put their fingers in their ears and then I got upset because it all seemed so awful. However, once I put her down she slept for 6 hours and was a much happier bunny once she woke up. That really was the worst.
We couldn't believe our luck on the way back when we had noone sitting beaise us for the full 24 hours back! Dh and I just sat either end of the row and we put dd down on the two seats between us. We were so lucky, I had been stressing something awful about the flight back but it turned out okay in the end.
Very pleased to be back though!

Think I've been sold on one of those Phil and Ted buggies though. Anyone know them?

MrsDoolittle · 21/09/2005 10:50

Oh and we are moving to Newbury as soon as we find a house and given four weeks notice. Looking starts tomorrow!

Fennel · 21/09/2005 11:21

oh yes nice buggies! the ones with a sling for the baby to hang off under the main seat?

(we didn't have them in my day.... I feel like a fossil mum these days, we had no bumbles, totsbots, E3 or bugaboos.... and dd1 is only 5)

MrsDoolittle · 21/09/2005 14:01

Don't worry Fennel, we'll sort you a zimmer though!

LucyJones · 21/09/2005 14:02

Welcome back MrsD. Glad you had a good time

dot1 · 21/09/2005 14:50

Welcome back Mrs D!!! After our 50 minute flight to Southampton (which went fine, but was the most stressful 50 minutes since I gave birth!!) I've sworn never to go any further for at least 10 years!

hewlettsdaughter · 22/09/2005 20:49

Fennel - Woodcraft Folk was fine. I didn't have to stay (these were "elfins", 6-9 years), but I did get some blurb saying that a typical evening looks like this: arrival and games, news circle, main activity, singing, closing circle. DS seemed to enjoy it, anyway. Some of his friends go to beavers (pre-cubs) so he may try that too - we've said we'll let him choose which one he wants to carry on with.

Hope you got over your jetlag, MrsD. Sounds like you had a great time.

Fennel · 25/09/2005 20:54

HD, thanks. am still dithering between Rainbow brownies (very local, round the corner), Woodcraft folk (nicely hippie peace movement ethos but a couple of miles away) and nothing (less effort for me).

dot1 I just wondered is your mumsnet name anything to do with the Dot cartoons? a friend was just talking about them and I thought of you

lunavix · 25/09/2005 23:26

I have no idea who this is for Fennel (older dd?) but I vote for rainbows cos I'm a guider in brownies and it's great And the uniform is sooo cute

Ds is still gorgeous, loving this age so so much. Got him a kitchen for christmas (the one on sale in toysrus) and I want to open it NOW cos I know he'll love it!!!!

I need some help, we're going to skegness friday and I need to put together a pack of toys and bits to entertain him in the car journey. Suggestions please!!!!!!

handlemecarefully · 25/09/2005 23:28

Welcome back Mrs D....

Dot - what did you fly to Southampton for? (that is my neck of the woods!)

handlemecarefully · 25/09/2005 23:30

Blimey lunavix - just re-read your post and realised that you have got Christmas organised already for your ds. Seriously impressed - respect! Don't know what to get for my two....

lunavix · 25/09/2005 23:33

I did last year too end result - I spend too much!

The kitchen was a fisher price one, reduced from £60 to £30, so I made up for it by buying £60 worth of food, toasters, tea sets etc to go with it!!!!

Then I bought him £40 of happyland, because some of the bits are being discontinued. So I can't look at toys anymore else it will just get ridiculous.

I must not spend, I must not spend, I must not spend....
