It's difficult not to though isn't it - you imagine the radiant little face and that look of unadulterated joy when they tear off the wrapping paper, and you just flex that credit card just a little bit more...I compensate by not spending much on dh!

lunavix · 25/09/2005 23:36

yes shhhh I haven't bought him anything.

I'm hoping that free ipod thing isn't a load of tosh, as I'm planning on that being his present

Fennel · 26/09/2005 09:45

hi Lunavix, the woodcraft/brownies choice is for dd1 who's 5.
i used to be keen on guides, brownies etc but that was a long time ago. one reason against the Rainbows is that the local pack is short of adult leaders I can just imagine getting sucked in and ending up running it!

i can't think of anything mine need for christmas our house is already stuffed full of toys.

Hi everybody
Just checking in from Sofia in Bulgaria leave for Plovdiv tomorrow which is a 2hr bus ride from Sofia. Having an awesome time, dd is being a gem.
We had a nice time for 3 days in France for our friends wedding and arrived in Sofia last night for the start of our second leg of 6wks.
Thought of you too Fennel in Poland, loved Krakow, Warsaw was OK but we had such a nightmare journey from Belarus to Warsaw it cut out half our day there which was a shame. Czech Republic was great too although a bit chilly and we managed to get out of Prague couldn't believe the tourists there just thousands still.
Bubbles are the best thing ever invented. Stop at a square somewhere dh takes some photos pull some bubbles out of my bag and voila instant entertainment.
Sorry I haven't had a chance to read up much of the news, hope all is well and you are all great.
Will catch up soon

Fennel · 26/09/2005 19:34

hi Chuffed

good to hear you are enjoying yourself. are you not feeling too pregnant to do much?
I would be interested to hear about Plovdiv I am going there in a few weeks time.

hewlettsdaughter · 26/09/2005 19:46

Ah, bubbles - they're great aren't they. DD (who so far has only really said mamama, dadada) has just started saying "bub" for bubble

Glad to hear you're having a good time Chuffed.

handlemecarefully · 26/09/2005 22:39

Nice to hear from your Chuffed - although I'm feeling exhausted just reading about your travel itinerary!

MrsDoolittle · 27/09/2005 11:46

See this thread I have juts spotted it. Anyone interested? Do you fancy joining me from Newbury Lunavix? Assuming we'll be in Newbury by then, of course. Thought it would be nice to meetup.

Hiya Chuffed! I'd love to go to Prague.

dot1 · 27/09/2005 11:49

wow - tons of discussion to catch up on! Fennel - no, my name isn't anything to do with the cartoons - haven't seen them! It's just a nickname dp gave me years ago - from nowhere in particular!

I was flying to Southampton for work - to go to a meeting in Winchester, so not very exciting..!

Chuffed - am sooooooo impressed at your ability to travel around and not sound completely stressed! dd must be having the most amazing time!

meanwhile ds continues to chat and sing away - such a sunny soul - warms the cockles of my heart!

handlemecarefully · 27/09/2005 12:05

Dot - I work in Winchester, and in the NHS!!!What meeting was it?

dot1 · 27/09/2005 12:10

HMC - it was at the Severn and Wessex Deanery - although I didn't actually make it as the plane had a "technical fault" and didn't take off!

Where do you work?!

handlemecarefully · 27/09/2005 12:14

Royal Hampshire County Hospital - Winchester....

Bummer about the plane eh?

dot1 · 27/09/2005 12:16

yeah - we'd taken it to get down to Brighton the week before on our holiday - so at least it was only a work meeting I missed (went home and watched daytime TV instead!! )

Fennel · 27/09/2005 14:40

Mrs D am half tempted by the meet up thread. i am in London for work the day before that so could stay and go to it. But i don't know, so many eminent and well known mumsnet posters, all saying "who? who are you? do you really post? why haven't i heard of you before?" etc.

Chuffed · 27/09/2005 18:45

well had today in Plovdiv Fennel and when you come and have a look around the old town think of me with the buggy. The old town has to rate as worst roads/none footpaths yet dh had to push.
It is a bit of a city of contrasts, little old town and then surrounding it lovely shops etc then surrounding that tons of tower blocks although not as many as in Minsk.
Dot probably easier with just one child rather than 2 but I think her disposition helps. Every time we leave somewhere she gets on the bus or train waves at everybody out the window and says bye bye in a really sad voice yet is really excited at the same time to get on the bus or train which is surprising after the amount of time she has spent on them. Is not at all daunted by all the different people we are meeting at the hostels and seems to take it all in her stride. I don't think we could do this if she wasn't quite so easy going.
The pregnancy is going well, feel huge for 24ish weeks compared to last time (gotta be a boy???) but apart from the occasional back problems it has been fine. We do have the advantage of turning in most nights with dd if not a little later so have been getting more sleep than we did before.
Off to Veliko Tarnovo still in Bulgaria tomorrow for a couple of days then on to Romania from there.
Take care all!

LucyJones · 27/09/2005 18:49

Hi everyone. I've also done some Christmas shopping Went to toyrsus and got all my neices and nephews pressies as there are some quite good deals on atm

handlemecarefully · 27/09/2005 20:49

I had my name down for the Christmas meet up but pulled out of it in a low key way....

Fennel · 28/09/2005 10:36

christmas shopping? I am still trying to pretend it's summer!

HMC would it have been your first meet-up? i have never been to one, there are periodic attempts to do Manchester ones but it's always people I never "meet" on mumsnet, so total strangers really. have only ever met Dot and partner. (which has been a lot of fun).

Chuffed, we always have the buggy v backpack debate for travelling with toddlers. we generally go for the buggy too but then sometimes when we are in steep or hilly places we use a sarong as a sling - you can get quite good at doing it, african style. even for a chunky toddler, if you're not going miles.

am looking forward to Plovdiv but the journey from here to there will be rather long.

dolbear · 28/09/2005 14:29

handlemecarefully · 29/09/2005 00:34

Fennel

Yep it would be my first meet up - I've vacillated re whether to go or not on previous years too, and opted for 'or not'.

Don't want my illusions shattered....

Hi dolbear - we taking ds and dd to two halloween parties - but somebody else is organising these; not up for all that effort myself

MrsDoolittle · 29/09/2005 08:54

Well I'm sulking now. I wasn't put down on the list despite my expression of interest so I'm not going to bother now. [sulk] [sulk]

MrsDoolittle · 29/09/2005 13:29
