Mrs D how was your romantic weekend? that hotel is quite close to my parents who sometime will have the dds overnight - so let me know if it was a great venue.

dot1 of course my girls are always neat and tidy and quiet . I realise a good thing about boys is less hair brushing and washing - we have such battle s over this. Dp would like to give them all crew cuts!

MrsDoolittle · 24/08/2005 11:33

A gorgeous weekend Thanks Fennel. I think the restaurant is the jewel in their crown although the room was lovely too, so if you are foodies....
Malmesbury is lovely too. We went to the Abbey gardens and westonbirt arboretum as aprt of the package and loved both.

Fennel · 24/08/2005 11:40

I went to Westonbirt as a 5 year old on a school trip. just trees. how boring at least at that age.

I am more foodie than dp who likes cholesterol'n'chips type meals.

MrsDoolittle · 24/08/2005 11:44

Ahh maybe not then.
But is was fabulous just to get away from home, dd and the dog, although we missed them all by the end

LucyJones · 24/08/2005 11:46

I'm so Me and dh were thinking about going away for my birthday but noone to parm ds onto and also no pennies sadly....

MrsDoolittle · 24/08/2005 12:11

We don't have pennies either - I was imagining them

Fennel · 24/08/2005 12:26

lucyjones - we have only so far managed to palm 2 of our 3 children off at a time. so dd3 still regularly accompanies us on our romantic liaisons. I have visions of her age 16 still tagging along.

TracyK · 24/08/2005 12:48

Hooray - dh and ds are away for 3 days - I can't wait to get back from work today to an EMPTY HOUSE!!!
I have grand designs of doing some aerobics and painting my staircase - but I can bet you £100 that I just go to my bed!!

LucyJones · 24/08/2005 12:51

ooh, where have they gone?

TracyK · 24/08/2005 13:05

they've gone home to Glasgow to visit g/parents. So dh not totally alone in looking after ds. Phew!

handlemecarefully · 24/08/2005 13:18

"my friend with 3 boys told me recently that she and other mums of boys thought mothers of girls weren't really experiencing parenthood!"

Blimey Fennel - did you keep your reply clean?

As a mum of a boy and a girl I can only offer my personal experience that my dd is harder than ds. She is obstructive, argumentative, pig headed etc (chip off the old block) whereas ds is very easy going, but perhaps more 'physical'. That sounded very negative about dd - love her to bits really (she has many strong points too!)

Fennel · 24/08/2005 16:09

HMC, it has been suggested to me that my tantrumming obstinate dd is exactly like me

dot1 and family have just been round to visit this afternoon, and they have been treated to some lovely tantrums to help dispel the myth that girls are nice and well behaved.

handlemecarefully · 24/08/2005 16:11

lol

dot1 · 24/08/2005 19:32

We had a fab time at Fennel's and our supreme whinger (ds1) saved most of his bad behaviour until he got to his grandparents for tea!

I'm completely traumatised at the moment - went to the hairdressers a couple of hours ago and all was going well until she tackled my fringe - she lopped the whole lot off and it's hovering about a mile above my eyebrows! I look really stupid - kind of like a monk - and am gutted... Was really crap though and still tipped her!

TracyK · 25/08/2005 08:54

Oh no dot1 - I hate that - I've had crap haircuts before and had to hide all weekend. If its a new hairdressers I don't leave a tip. My last disaster charged me £90 for cut (bowl cut) and colour and an extra £5 for 'restyling'! so I didn't leave a tip and never went back.
I've got the hairdressers today - so I hope no disaster here!

dot1 · 25/08/2005 09:29

I know it's pathetic, but I'm still really upset about it - feel like I look really stupid and everyone must be thinking 'aarrggghhh'...

Ho hum. At least the kids don't notice!

Fennel · 25/08/2005 10:18

dot1 you will have to wear a bandana. or else do clever things with hair gel.

Hunkermunker are you around or have you really left mumsnet? i would say please don't go but as i agree with your outrage i can't really say that. but we'll miss you if you aren't here.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 17:07

Hiya.

Fennel, yes, had gone - but am back because MN have revised their advertising policy. Thanks for noticing I had gone though

Have had scan - all fine (but not found out the sex ). Amazingly detailed - even more so than when I had DS! Could have watched the little one kicking about all day!

DS also got the all-clear yesterday and has been discharged from hospital (where he'd been investigated for UTIs), so very happy!

dolbear · 25/08/2005 18:00

nice to have you back , just trying to catch up a bit , is the re the mulipa thread ? bit scarey out there !

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 19:59

LOL Dolbear - yes, was because of that. I waded in, as per usual

dolbear · 25/08/2005 20:15

tried to find the source , but all i could find u shut up....no you , type of thing
ah well

LucyJones · 25/08/2005 20:40

dot1 - I gave ds the same treatment the hairdresser gave you today. Dh wasn't pleased and said he looked daft but it really needed doing Glad you're back Hunkermumnker and that the scan went well. My sister is due her 2nd baby today and I'm so excited, and also bound to get really broody the minute and hold my new neice or nephew. Dh still not sure he wants any more though

Fennel · 26/08/2005 14:18

HM that is good news about the UTIs. we had a long saga with dd1 and UTIs and kidney and isotope scans, we were also glad when it was over and all clear.

handlemecarefully · 26/08/2005 16:51

Awww - your fringe will start growing soon Dot!

Glad that ds has the all clear Hunker.

Bye all - off on hols now until 4th September.
