Gosh - Chuffed - you really put me to shame. I find it a major expedition just going to Tescos! ds is a little darling just now - sleeping from 7.30 till 6.15 am - what a diff a full nights sleep makes.

hewlettsdaughter · 07/09/2005 20:44

Hello all - have I really not posted on this thread yet? Where does the time go?

Hope all those of you that are away are having a great time (good to hear from you Chuffed!). YG - congrats on winning the competition (is your dd's bum better now? and how are your boobs? )

I'm now back at work 5 days a week after the school summer holiday (had quite a bit of time off to look after ds). Got a big deadline coming up work-wise, so not looking forward to that.

Am still bf, and can't see dd ever self-weaning (may have to get tough!)

KristinaM, are you still around?

Fennel · 07/09/2005 20:48

hi chuffed, glad to hear Vilnius is good. i am going to Poland this weekend but without dd3, just with work. am tempted to smuggle dd3 along as she's teething so a bit sorry for herself - it's hard to leave her

hi HD don't they get less likely to self wean from this age on? do you want to stop?

took dd3 for her first "real" shoes but the shop wouldn't sell us any cos she has funny toes - 2nd and 3rd toes cross over! has anyone else come across this? so she's not got new shoes.

hewlettsdaughter · 07/09/2005 20:57

What are you supposed to do for new shoes then Fennel? Sorry, no tips as have no experience.

Have heard it is harder to stop toddlers bf, though hunkermunker's ds recently self-weaned

I think I am ready to have my body back now but I'm not sure dd agrees....

TracyK · 08/09/2005 08:50

Maybe you need to have a weekend away HD and then dd won't have any reminders and go off it??
Fennel - ds 2nd and 3rd toes sort of cross over at times - but not all the time. Does she have them joined at the bottom? Mine and ds do and they look ever so odd.

LucyJones · 08/09/2005 09:09

Hi everyone. We have just stopped giving ds a bottle of milk in the morning and give him sone in his beaker with an earlier breakfast. He still has a 7oz botle at nigh though - don't feel ready yet to change that to the beaker and reading stories. He associates books with playing and daytime still I think

Fennel · 08/09/2005 10:56

tracyk - am not sure what you mean by "joined at the bottom" - they are joined on to the foot as normal but crossed over as if she's crossing them for luck.

HD, ironically, as she has no new shoes, she has to wear her sister's old ones! Hardly ideal. But she's supposed to be going barefoot as much as possible, and we have her in sandals at present so we can keep an eye on them.

dd3 moved from milk in bottle to milk in beaker a month ago without a fuss (unlike her big sisters). but she doesn't drink much milk she prefers water or juice.

TracyK · 08/09/2005 11:47

Fennel - you'd know what I meant if she had them - more like they join together and then join the foot. Like a little v.
ds still has milk from his bottle am and pm - have no intention of stopping yet as he drinks his waking up milk in my bed and I don't want him splashing milk all over the duvet!

Fennel · 08/09/2005 11:55

tracyk - dd3 has charming habit of turning milk bottle or cup upside down and squeezing milk out onto duvet etc. very messy. am resigned to getting nice new furniture, bedding, etc when all children grown up.

first day back at school for dd1 and dd2 (hurrah hurrah). I went to meet dd1's new teacher. only later realised had large messy food stains all over t-shirt. due to dd3 again.

hewlettsdaughter · 08/09/2005 20:12

Fennel - expect the teacher didn't notice. They're probably used to it.

A weekend away TracyK! Can't decide if that would be fabulous - or awful, as I know how strong-minded dd can be. Yesterday she woke up late evening and dh went up to her. She kept grunting loudly (her preferred method of communication) and pointing downstairs for me (cheeky monkey).

MrsDoolittle · 09/09/2005 02:15

Hi Ladies, I'm out on my own - with a credit card in Newmarket, Auckland!! Thought I'd nip in to an internet cafe to catch up a little. You all seem so far away.
We have been so lucky with the weather - beautiful, sunny spring days. It is supposed to be wet at this time of the year. Dh and I went to an island that has been turned into a bird sanctury - it reminded me of Jarassic Park seeing all these near extinct birds happily flying about wild, so beautiful. The bird song was truly breathtaking and it was so sunny both of us have tanned faces.
I don't know if dd is really growing up or it's just because we are spending so much time with her now but she really is a little chatter box. Not just us, anyone and everyone - gabble, gabble, gabble, she's winning hearts wherever she goes. She has also started to play a little roughly, like sticking her fingers into my eyes and up my nose - she thinks this is funny. She wakes dh up in the morning by ramming her fingers up his nose or twisting it. She is still crawling around but she is standing so well on her own now, everyday we think she is going to walk.
I was most upset to leave her with dh's mother the other night - I don't know her very well, but dd didn't mind. Aslong as she gets plenty of attention she is happy with everyone. Dh's friends have all got children of similar ages now, dd just joins in and is quite capable of fighting her own corner. I'm gonna have to find some way to stop her snatching!
If you do manage to see this Chuffed, I'm in the same boat as you, I bought some maternity stuff out here with me but I'm not quite big enough for it either.
Anyway, I'm going now I've been gabbling for long enough.
Hope you are all okay. Take Care xxx

LucyJones · 09/09/2005 14:20

wow, sounds like you're having an amazing time MrsD!!
Good news here, I don't know if you remember me saying that dh was very reluctant to go for no.2. Well he has agreed to ttc when ds is 2 - woo hoo. Very lucky as my sister has just had her 2nd and it's all making me feel very broody

TracyK · 11/09/2005 09:57

Good news LJ - not long to go really! I still can't decide whether to have another one or not. May leave it up to fate next year and not use any contraception and see what happens.

ds nursery book has a little section in it for 'any new bumps and bruises?' - I am always filling in something for him - his little shins are covered in little bruises. Typical boy!

hi Ladies!

MrsD, Chuffed - very jealous at your travels! Hope you're having a fab time and that the LO's are loving it too.

Fennel - ds's toes cross over too. It's mostly on one foot (they're nearly always crossed) the other one seems to be on demand. However when we went to Clarks they didn't take his socks off! So they'd never have known!

He's FINALLY walking properly. He took one step or two at the start of the holidays, and friday before last he learnt to stand up from sitting, and then he walked. Looks so grown up. He was in tumbletots immediately which he thought was fabulous. My little boy's a toddler now!

He's talking so much, to himself or anyone who's listen. If we say something he mimics it too like 'daddy's book' or someone's name. Doesn't usually remember it though.

How much milk is everyone's LO on? ds is still having two bottles a day of 9oz each but I'm sure this is far too much. DH is reluctant to lose anything at night (lack of sleep a worry!) but I'm worried more about the mornings, as we can't move breakfast much earlier (it's usually 8.15isn, and he gets up between 7 and half 7) due to mindees.

dolbear · 11/09/2005 18:40

hello
just get back from bognor with the in-laws completly exhausted - nice time although not as exciting as u mrs d and other travellers
lve them both but urg - constant do u think he's cold ? i think his teeth r sore ! , i think hes got a bad tummy do you think hes cold ? , i've got some wipes , ill do that !!! aaaarrrhhh

re toes I have cross-over curled toes , two smallest - never did me any harm , other than they cramp up in water never had any probs buying shoes though !
fennel is nice 2 hear that another lo has that bottle habit have been trying to beat it out f ds 4 mths with no luck , also going 2 treat me 2 new chairs etc after the 2nd

LucyJones · 11/09/2005 18:44

Hi everyone. Lunavix - ds is on a 7oz bottle at night, and a couple of ounces in a beaker with his breakfast, which is full fat milk on weetabix so not sure how much that is in total.
He got his 2nd pair of shoes today and he's still only cruising. The first pair only lasted 2 months!!

TracyK · 12/09/2005 08:47

the past week or so ds has been asking for milk during the day. He gets 4 oz in bed and then some more on cereal and then 7 oz before bed. But during the day he takes me through to the fridge and points at the carton of milk and announces 'occo'!! I don't know how he makes milk to sound like 'occo' - maybe bottle?? but he's polishing off about 8 -10 oz during the day plus his meals - spose he must need it if he's asking for it.

dolbear · 12/09/2005 13:08

tracyK my ds has a similar diet - he has finally gor the hang of the whole fod thing and eats alot , but also asks for at least two bottle during the day , then one before he goes to sleep sooo much easier now they ask ! mind you his word for miljk is 'oos' so it can get a bit confusing !

Fennel · 13/09/2005 15:13

hi everyone in exciting places. I have just been to Poland for 4 days with work which was really nice. and very hot and sunny too. i kept a look out for Chuffed crossing eastern europe with mountain buggy on cobbles

lunavix and dolbear good to hear that crossed toes isn't so unusual.

i thought it's recommended that they still drink up to a pint a day of full fat milk at this age? but that could be milk marketing board propaganda, who knows. dd3 has about half a pint maybe, 10-12 oz altogether. she is too busy eating everything she sees to care about milk.

dolbear · 13/09/2005 17:18

ha ha milk board propaganda !!! ds said 1st wrd and knew what it meant while in axciting bognor ! whatsat - kinda like a cricketr!
can not find a decent p/time job anywher - realy frustrating

dot1 · 14/09/2005 10:32

Hello all!! Well, we haven't been as far as the rest of you, but Brighton was lovely!! Great weather and ds1 loved the flight, so that was a huge relief!

Ds2 is FINALLY SLEEPING!!!!!!! . After the holiday we altered his bedtime routine and he's getting a bottle after his bath and staying up until about 7.45pm (rather than 7.15pm). This bizarrely has got him sleeping for at least another 1.5 hours - we've even had to wake him up in the morning! Can't tell you how much of a relief this is, after over a year of 5.30am starts...

He's coming on a treat - starting to put words together and keeps surprising us with what he can say. We're also starting to venture out and about locally without the pushchair Only small walks, but it is lovely thinking that hopefully by next year it'll be a thing of the past?!

TracyK · 14/09/2005 10:41

Congrats Dot1 re the sleeping!
How much does he nap during the day? if I leave ds bath/bottle/bed much later than 7pm - he's a howling mess. He has 1.5hrs nap at lunchtime - but always wakes himself - so presume it's enough for him.
