Wow twins!!
so we just had mmr + pnuemococcal or whatever it is... Usually they are on his leg but high up... Nurse filling in for regular nurse's holiday put one in closer to his knee than his bum the other is half way.
nurse ronshar is this ok???? It obviously hurt him more than in the past. It's usually closer to his bum on his thigh, high up. did she screw it up? Honestly. Don't worry about worrying me. Just want to know if it's ok.

And the other nurse gives a sticker. No sticker today! Bless Q though. He pointed to his plasters and smiled through tears and said "ticka"... Then "2 ticka!". I was at this. Then in the car he had a ball in each hand and said "2 balls"

StarExpat · 28/07/2010 14:31

So I went next door and bought some stickers for 25p. Dh just got down a Thomas train set that was given to us a while ago by a friend with kids who outgrew it. Q is going to be soooo excited when he wakes and sees it!!

Thank you for encouragement cf. I know a few friends with autistic children who think it was the mmr as well. It's hard.
Let's meet up sometime

Pistachio - yes I've gotten quite chunky lately. I have 10 lbs to lose. Can't wait for the DVD! Just lack of proper exercise really

And warn them that ty could deliver early and it could happen to them! It's not just a small percentage. I was in total shock when I went into labour and was not yet 40 weeks. Gobsmacked. Q only counts when repeating me if I'm counting something. But he definitely knows when something is 2 (like 2 shoes, toys, treats...etc). Not sure about other amounts. I'm happy because that's proper concept of number.

Pistachio - yes that counts!! Much more of an indicator of concept of number than rote counting/reciting numbers in order.

Yes that is how I felt... I can't have a baby yet. I'm not ready. I was told I have 2 more weeks.

Q seems ok but the pnuemococcal jab is really hurting him now, if it's touched, when water was poured over it in the bath and if he stands on it that's the one that was closer to his knee. I gave him nurofen - that's ok right? He was really wailing in pain... A cry I only hear when he's in real pain surprisingly the mmr side is totally fine! He did obsessively watch his new Thomas train go round and round the track saying "ding ding" every time it passed the bell... So...

Yeah I know it's really late. Do you think maybe that's why it hurts, too? He just kept getting sick before and I didn't dare...

How has it been without ds?

Poor Q. I hope it's not too painful for him.

S loves counting and can count up to twelve but has no concept of number at all and just applies them completely randomly. I asked him the other day how many eyes he had and he just said "1,2,3,4,5". So Q's response is pretty impressive.

I'm about to start Shred again now that I'm on holiday. I was going to do it yesterday but had a nap instead.

Star - let's definitely meet up. I'm away from 9th August for a week but otherwise around most of the time. Are you going to the States?

50ftQueenie · 28/07/2010 19:49

Hello!

Busy busy busy.... this summer holiday lark is hard work!

Just popping by to say hello and that there are some pictures of the delicious J on my FB. It's the album with that 'silly girl' at the start...

Star. The reason they normally inject high on the leg is because that is the biggest area of muscle. So to be honest if a nurse had done that to my child I most certainly would have asked her if this was her first time.
It wont have done anything bad but as you are finding out it will be more painful. Poor baby Q. You can give nurofen and then in two hours paracetamol. So it should keep him nice and painfree so he can get a good sleep and in the morning it will have worn off.
I can confess that W still hasnt had his MMR. I am pro vac however because of W allergies I am not 100% convinced it is researched fully. I wouldnt give singles to be honest because lots of people forget to complete the course. My sil being one of them
I am sure Q will be just fine.

Myjob. You were very brave and so was DS. Very exciting for him at the same time though. I bet you sit next to him in his bed and watch him sleep when he gets home.

CF where are you off to on your hols? Anywhere nice?

Pistachio. I will have a think about your question some more but my worst fear was being treated against my will during delivery. Epidurals etc. That was with number one. By number three didnt really care

StarExpat · 28/07/2010 20:29

Thank you ronshar. I did find it strange when she was doing it. He has never minded jabs before. Just a little flinch then no tears. Today it was full on screaming in pain and his leg shot out straight. thank you. I hope I haven't made the wrong choice.

I was really annoyed because she just wasn't any good at all. The other nurse distracts with a special toy from her desk...etc. This lady just looked nervous and it looked like not all of the fluid got in him from the mmr. I was meant to chat about possibly having a smear test (try again), too, but she was useless and couldn't understand why it needed to be discussed. And told me "it's your choice"

In response to ronshars worries prebirth, I was worried that they wouldn't give me an epidural.

coconutfeet · 28/07/2010 20:37

Aaah, ds came into the room earlier and said "S loves Mummy".

Pistachio - I was terrified of going overdue and being induced and then having an over-medicalised delivery. I also feel that sometimes health professionals can be over-cautious, i.e. inducing a woman before it's necessary. But at the same time I was terrified of something happening to the baby (I know someone who lost a baby at 42 weeks because of a lack of amniotic fluid). It's very hard for any woman, but especially a first time mother, to have the confidence to question treatment offered. Does that make sense. As it turned out I did have a really medicalised delivery, but it was fine.

Ronshar - we're off to Holland for a week. Camping in the forest with bikes but with a trip to Amsterdam thrown in.

StarExpat · 28/07/2010 20:49

How about next week aubergenie? I'll fb message you if that's better

coconutfeet · 28/07/2010 20:53

Yes, next week is good Star. For some reason, fb doesn't let me know when someone's sent me a message so if you do fb me, can you mention it on here so I know to look? I'm not on fb that much these days.

coconutfeet · 28/07/2010 20:56

Star - Ignore my previous waffle. I've sent you a message on fb with my email address on it.

BertieBotts · 28/07/2010 20:58

Hello all - I'm sorry to pop in and out so sporadically. Ryan is counting randomly too - he says "One Two Three Six" to everything but sometimes things like "One two shoes" or "One two three buduns" (buttons) when reading his books etc. His memory is astounding me at the moment though. I have recently discovered a little park near the children's centre and we have been there a couple of times maybe over the last month or two. Anyway the other day we were walking towards it, I hadn't mentioned anything, and Ryan was saying "Swings swings", I was amazed he'd remembered. He's also matching colours, I got him a set of pens and he puts the wrong lid on then laughs and says "No!" and finds the right one.

He says biscuit too myjob but it sounds more like "bitchy"

He hasn't had his MMR yet. He always gets distraught at injections (so distraught that nursing or even chocolate has no effect ) so I'm not looking forward to it.

StarExpat · 29/07/2010 13:13

The side with the lower jab is not squishy like his other thigh. It's tightened and he cries if standing still on it or sitting/laying down undistracted or if it's touched - he's been running around outside a bit so it can't be awful but it feels so hard.

Arghh. I'll give more calpol.

Nice to see you Bertie!! It is so cool how they remember stuff now, isn't it? Fun!

StarExpat · 29/07/2010 19:31

Dh's friend just found out his girlfriend of over 10 years is cheating on him why do people do this?
Q still has a marble like feel by his injectionon the left leg. Still whimpers if it's touched. He's currently in bed and every time he rolls on his he cries out. You'd think he would learn... Maybe it also killed off some brain cells

How is everyone surviving the summer holidays?

I heard from my friend who decided to quit work so she could have a more relaxing life as a sahm. She's now trying to get back to her job. she said "I don't get it. You're always so happy when you get to stay home for weeks at a time..."
I tried to remind her that my job is working with children - young children... So I'm used to it. The stresses of her job were totally different than toddler and young child stresses.

StarExpat · 29/07/2010 19:35

I think if she just gives it a go for another few months she will find her feet a bit more, and shed be brilliant with it, but shes so impulsive. Decided it's not whAt she thought it would be so she doesn't want it.

StarExpat · 29/07/2010 20:54

That is sweet myjob and yes this friend is very, very scatty - always looking for the easy way out and the grass is always greener no matter Which side she's on
