Hope you had a good meet-up today. Sorry I couldn't be there.

I'm really fed up. My childminder is probably moving away. Her husband was made redundant recently and they've put their house on the market so, assuming that they can sell it, they'll be leaving London. I feel sick to my stomach as she's brilliant and S loves it there. Decent childcare near my school is really hard to find and I really don't know what to do. Sad

50ft - So you're going to be a teacher? How exciting! It's a great job, once you get over the horror of the PGCE. Any ideas where you're going to apply to do it?

StarExpat · 19/09/2010 20:43

I agree 50ft. It's a fab job. Just getting through the training and then the NQT year to follow is a bit intense.

Oh cf :( Sorry to hear your cm may be moving. Have you considered a nursery now that he's a bit older?

He would probably LOVE it. Also, it's in your favour that they may not be able to sell Wink so, here's hoping for you!

I've met pistachio Grin. She is even more lovely than her fb or MN posts reveal. :) I do wish she lived closer. I wish I could have stayed much longer, but as it's Sunday I have loads of work to get done before tomorrow.

How are you now, Ronshar?

Coconutfeet · 19/09/2010 21:05

Glad you all had a good day! I wish I'd been able to meet the lovely Pistachio. Are you feeling any better Ronshar?

CSWS - How did the christening go?

Star I know - very wickedly I was hoping that they wouldn't be able sell their house, but obviously I hope they're able to do whatever's right for them. I wondered about nursery but the nurseries around here are apparently very poor, judging by the experiences of a few people I know who have had to move/remove their children, and people I know who have been looking into them with a view to returning to work. Obviously I need to go and look myself than just going by what they've said but I'm also very limited in choice as I need one near work so that I can drop S off and get to work as close as possible to 8 o'clock. There are a couple of nurseries which are good and which take children from age three but obviously no good for us yet. The other issue is the holidays. What do you do about them Star (Sorry I know you've said before but I can't remember)? Do you pay a retainer?

loulou33 · 19/09/2010 21:23

Happy belated birthday Emma, and Ksal, hope you are doing alright in hosp? I ws induced with Joe at 37 weeks and he fed fine.

myjob - can't win with HVs, 25lbs sounds fine to me....I think Joe is about 2 stone and he's 'well built'...he had a huge growth spurt upwards so he looks less chunky iyswim..

[Loulou waves at ronshar] I won't send you a hug as I seemed to have missed a new hugging/not hugging protocol Wink but sorry things are tough at the moment.

DH's father is really ill, we went to see him on Friday so the kids could say goodbye. Both boys adore him and DS1 was visibly shocked at how much thinner his grandy has got.....feel really shit about it and feel desparately sad that my kids won't have a grandad anymore....he has been so wonderful to them and Joe gets sooo excited when I mention his name.

To make things worse, I have been booked for a laparoscopy on Friday as have annoying cyst that needs dealing with...I do NOT have time to be ill....or laid up if need a laparatomy...my heads all over the place....

Coconutfeet · 19/09/2010 21:26

So sorry to hear about your dh's father Loulou. I hope you are all coping.

StarExpat · 19/09/2010 21:30

I pay all of the holidays I take, cf. But for the 10 weeks of summer that he's home, I pay half fees. It's spread out over the whole year, though, so I pay the same amount every month, taking this into account iyswim. If cm takes a holiday herself outside of my time (would be odd since between dh and I, Q is home with us for exactly half of the year), but if she does, then I don't need to pay for that time as I'll need to pay someone else for it.

It was just pistachio and I today. I hope Ronshar is feeling better, though.

Oh loulou :( Sorry about grandad and about the laparatomy (?what is that?). Sounds like a tough time for you.

StarExpat · 19/09/2010 21:35

I was going to post in general health then realized how silly and small my problem is Blush - I'll ask you ladies instead! I have a weird stabbing like (?), odd pain in my shoulder. It comes and goes. I've done no strenuous exercise lately (ahem, as witnessed by just looking at me!), but could be from sleeping strangely, but it really is quite painful - not to the touch, just a random pain. Anyone had this? I'm thinking it's because Q has been coming in to sleep with me more than usual lately in the early morning, any of your DC still doing this ( Blush if I'm the only one that still allows it) and if so do you get this pain?
I took paracetamol and it's still there.

loulou33 · 19/09/2010 21:38

Thanks - need to stop crying though, its not helping Sad...

Hoping it will just keyhole surgery and I will be home that day and back on my feet by Sat but if it won't fit through a small hole or they need to remove my whole ovary, its a bigger op like c-section and will be in hosp for 5 days and laid up at home for weeks. It all seems to happen at once, doesn't it??

Coconut - our nursery gives us three weeks of holiday so we don't have to pay if we are away for that time. Some people who work term-time manage to negotiate more holiday time but i don't know how?

50ftQueenie · 20/09/2010 07:34

Loulou - Don't remember if you were around at the time but last year I had a laparotomy with a midline incision & a HUGE ovarian cyst + ovary removed. I was in hospital for 4 days and went on to the Warwick castle meet-up three weeks later. My recovery from the laparotomy was far faster than my c-section with Martha. I also had a cyst removed via laparoscopy when DS was 2 & that was the size of a grapefruit, but they managed to get it all out. I was back at work the next week. I hope they can get it out via keyhole surgery. Sorry to hear about your FIL. :(

Will be back later for proper post.... Had to reply to Loulou.

oh yes, I remember that, 50ft. I just didn't remember that word. I hope it all goes well for you, loulou. xx thinking of you.

50ftQueenie · 20/09/2010 09:32

I was going to tell you off for not listening to me Star.... Wink

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/09/2010 15:10

:( for your fil loulou. And good luck for friday.

Christening went very well thank you cf. I can't post any pics yet as I don't have any of my own, so need to wait for the 'official' ones to come through. Everyone seemed delighted with the fish and chip van followed by ice cream van though, as well as the cheese table and cake. :)

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/09/2010 15:12

Is pain only in shoulder star, and how long has it been there? Other than just a twist/slept funny type pain the only causes I know of shoulder pains are ectopic pregnancies and gallstones, but I don't think you are a strong candidate for either of these!

It's funny putting your face to your posts now, pistachio :) glad you got home safely.
I was worried I wouldn't understand your accent but you were totally understandable and it sounds lovely. Almost rhythmic. Not like the boring American monotone Grin. oxlips have listened for hours.

A parent forgot about their dc in my class today at home time Angry
I drove her home so was a bit late for Q but couldn't let her sit there in tears :(

StarExpat · 20/09/2010 19:45

Oxlips?????
Was meant to be "I could have listened for hours" typing fast on iPhone

Grin seriously I just feel like mine is plain and monotone. Everyone else has more spice or rhythm or sing song to their voice. I don't even like listening to loads of other Americans at once now. It's grating. I don't see how people put up with me talking, either!

I love the Scottish (and Irish) intonation. I had an Irish mother of a student in my class last year and would let her conference time go on as long as she liked. It was so pretty.

Still laughing at oxlips!!!!! Can't stop!

50ftQueenie · 20/09/2010 20:53

Ha ha ha ha!!!! Oxlips! That is very funny! I thought it was some sort of Americanism. Brilliant. How sad for the poor forgotten child. Do you have any alerting the authorities procedures in place? I know the nursery we used do.

Glad you're home safely Pistachio.

StarExpat · 20/09/2010 21:01

It's a bit of a "different" environment iyswim. It's just tricky - re: reporting to authorities. We have done in the past with suspected (kids told us) abuse but all was cleared.

StarExpat · 20/09/2010 21:12

oh yes sorry the procedures are in place. It's just getting anything done is tricky because of all the high profile people...etc. Shouldn't be like that, I know, but it is.

50ftQueenie · 20/09/2010 22:12

I am SURE I heard or saw something about that recently Star. The schools are scared (not the teachers I hasten to add) of the shit storm the parents would kick up if they were reported. They just think of teachers as glorified child minders. Hmm

OP posts:
StarExpat · 20/09/2010 22:24

Yes it's top well known bankers, people in oil in very high posts, ambassadors, actors...etc. Would be difficult indeed. Luckily cases like today are very rare.
