Our sleep is more disrupted by the older child than the younger at the moment. Daniel has slept really well the last two nights (around 10 until 7.30) though now I've written it he won't again.

Both DH and I are terribly broody which is just awful as we would need a bigger house, car and bank account for uni fees for sure. It's only that the holds me back and the awful, awful nine months of pregnancy to put un with (and don't say it might be better next time - we only went from horrific to almost bearable between DD1 and DS1).

Daniel 10 weeks now and a joy. I really enjoy him, which I couldn't really with DD. HE eats, sleeps, smiles and enterains himself. I'm not sanguine though - my friend had a very chilled little baby boy who turned into a complete klingon for a year at 6 months. Shock There is still time for Daniel to be a nightmare Grin

goodname · 19/09/2010 12:55

I am far too tired to be broody. I used to think I wanted lots of children but now think an only child would be just fine!

fillybuster · 19/09/2010 20:08

I didn't get broody until #3 Goodname...you have been warned!

And LaT, I think I responded on the other thread - but is there a link between you getting some sleep and when you get broody?! I'm sure it took a lot longer after S was born!!

MonkeyMargot · 19/09/2010 21:07

Hi everyone. Haven't posted for ages as was on hols to South of France for 2 weeks, so haven't caught up on thread just yet.
Flying with the 3 LOs was actually OK - they were all fab and didn't cry at all. We actually got lots of unsolicited compliments which was lovely. Felt v.proud :-)
Was nice to be in the sunshine but soon realised that family outings to the beach whilst BF twins was going to be a challenge. I did manage it once - much to the amusement of the locals....one French chap actually came over whilst I was sitting there feeding the boys and said, "You are perfectly equipped"...Wink I think he was referring to my feeding cushion, but I couldn't help giggle.....

The boys are little angels and have been sleeping 7pm-7am straight since 9 weeks. which is more than can be said for DD who has started waking ridiculously early (5/5:30am). Will start a thread on here I think as need to sort this.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting a little more sleep now.

madamefreckle · 19/09/2010 22:36

Hi MonkeyMargot! Was wondering where you'd got to! Glad you had a great time! Love the comment from the French chap! Hope you can sort out your DD's early morning shenanigans. Is she still napping during the day? I know it's different for every child but DS sleeps longer at night if he has a nap of around an hour and a bit - as long as it's not too late in the afternoon. If he's had a good nap, he may not go to sleep until 8/8.30 but rarely wakes much before 7. He's 3 1/2 and has been like that for ages. Let us know the link to your new thread - I want to see what others say - hopefully someone will come up with something that works for you.

We're well past the 3 month mark and Emma is still in considerable amounts of pain from wind during the day which is only partly relieved after she passes wind. She never sleeps for longer than 40 mins at a time during the day before waking up screaming and pulling her knees up. Sad This is destroying my attempts at getting her into a daytime routine completely! She is still also soiling her nappy 5 or 6 times a day. Anyone got any ideas?? I have tried cutting out dairy for 2 weeks, tried infacol, tried gripe water (which seems to help but only if she doesn't gag on it causing whole feeds to re-emerge!)
Thankfully she seems much better at night - but is still feeding twice between 7 and 7.

SmilerJane · 20/09/2010 14:32

Thanks MrsAlwaysRight Nice to meet you Wink

I was dreading it but it has finally happened.. My Lil Jorgia has her 1st cold! So i now got a lil runny nosed baby poorly but yet she is still giving me plenty of snotty smiles Grin
Worst thing is that i now have the onset of a cold and my throat is so so sore andmy LO Kezia has also got it! Only the boys left now!
(And i still had to do the night routine as DP Didnt even stir when she woke crying)

greensnail Its hard to go make myself busy as i'm in bed hearing her crying and just easier to get up and do it myself!.. Recenty she doesnt seem to want daddy very much as she screams like she had been punched in the face (untill i get her then she stps crying and goes to sleep) I will leave him to it during the day but when she is sreaming i just have to take herback lol..He has this thing where he feeds her winds for 510mins thenputs her down and goes for a cigarette!! This makes me angry as why cant he just sort her 100% instead of goin out one??
I think men definately get PMT! I'm angry but he still expects me to be loving all nice. i cant.. esp when my DS wants to take the dog for a walk with him and asks and he'll say " Well i dont have a choice do i!!!! OMG and I'M the selfish one apparently not thinking of HIS needs.. Grrrrrrrrrr
Rant Over Grin Sorry

As for lil miss she has stated to try nd gurgle and queeks when she trys to giggle now. Sheis still behind her 'actual' age but i'm sure being so pre se'll def catch up!

madammefrekkle Have to tried baby massage courses I did this with my 1st and has become very usefull esp for trapped wind/growing pains!

As for the broody topic i wont get broody untill i forget how awful preg was! Hypermesis for 7 1/2 months continuous is NOT fun! Not looking forward to Jorgias weigh day tomorrow as she been ill an not been drinking as much hope she hasnt lost weight)

(she has the most cutest little cough [wink}
I best go sort out angel as DP ha gone out doin something usefull like getting medicine for me and the LOs..

Best go as she needs me and both hands Wink DP has actualy gone to do something usefull and gone to get medicine for us girlies here with colds!
Chat later if i actally get on Grin

Sunworshipper · 20/09/2010 15:15

MonkeyMargot - love the comment from the French chap. Do you have any tips on flying with little ones? I am taking Romola to Australia on my own in November. Not too worried about it because what will be will be but any handy hints would be most welcome.

We're thinking of starting swimming too. I'm looking at Little Dippers. Anyone have any experience of this company?

Mrs AR - yes, definitely broody especially when I see pregnant women now. Not sure can do the IVF again though and just want to enjoy this time with R. I do think about her being an only child though and I guess there are pros and cons to this.

SmilerJane - hope Jorgia's weight is on track today.

fillybuster · 20/09/2010 15:56

"This is a public service announcement...."

Ok, not really, but can we try again on the London meetup please?

Come on Sunsworshipper, you know you want to join us Wink...CSWS, WWISA, Minimoo, earlyonemorning and MonkeyMargot, come over here and lets sort it out!!

SmilerJane · 20/09/2010 16:22

Thanks Sunworshipper

Hope you and your LO are doing great Grin

Sunworshipper · 20/09/2010 17:28

Heading over Filly...

MonkeyMargot · 20/09/2010 21:11

sunworshipper best tip for flying is to BF them on take-off and landing to help them equallise, and enjoy snuggling them in your arms for the rest of the journey. Wow - Australia - is that where you hail from?
I did Little Dippers with DD - it was really good, although not all babies enjoyed the experience. They do dunk them on day one but once you get over the shock of it it's fab.
MadameF will post link to sleep thread. DD is also waking up crying from her lunchtime nap - she is only having an hour whereas she used to have 1.5, so I don't think it's too much sleep in the day causing her to wake early.
filly coming over to london thread now..

Sunworshipper · 20/09/2010 21:23

Thanks for the tips MonkeyMargot. I've had to v sadly give up breastfeeding because of the risk of septicaemia now if I developed mastitis again but I reckon if I bottle fed Romola up and down that would be the same thing. My DH is Australian and we met when I was living in Sydney working on the Olympics so I'm taking Romola to meet her grandparents and my DH is flying out for Xmas.

Re Little Dippers, yes I wondered if some babies absolutely hated it. We'll give it a whirl and see how we get on.

latrucha · 21/09/2010 10:49

MonkeyMArgot - FWIW DD started waking in the night a few weeks ago, again after a trip away. What has worked in the end is a combination of telling her before bed how happy it makes us if she sleeps well, praising her in the morning a lot and if we have to go in in the night not picking her up or taking her out but saying firmly that everyone is sleeping, it's sleepy time, lie down and sleep and exiting (revisiting if necessary and if there really is nothing wrong). Plus, I gave her a really big tell off one morning after we'd all got up. I honestly think the 'happy' / praise thing has worked best in combination with the one-off telling off.

Hi everyone. Hovering around.

Filly - I think you're right about the sleep. We knew after DD we wanted more but we didn't get actually broody for a while. Now, I feel I could get pg tomorrow - but have no intention of doing so.

It's not so much the horror of pregnancy (which it is for me) but the idea of three university tuition fees which makes us think twice.

greensnail · 21/09/2010 14:27

hi everyone,

Things not so happy in the snail household as we've all had stomach bugs. We were just commenting last night on how good it was that Alice seemed to have avoided it, but she's been throwing up all morning so it looks like we spoke too soon. Am absolutely drowning in washing but at least DH and I are feeling a bit better today - yesterday morning I couldn't even pick up DD1 which I think was a bit worrying for her.

I'm actually feeling very unbroody at the moment, which is a new one for me. Up until this point its only been the horrible pregnancy thing putting me off wanting a third, but I'm starting to think that maybe our family is complete as it is.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/09/2010 16:35

just adding back to my list. Have been v busy as had both boys Christened on Sunday, followed by big celebration at ours. Hopefully be back with more time soon.

OP posts:
latrucha · 21/09/2010 16:38

I really wish I could feel that, greensnail. Envy

CSWS - what age did you Christen your boys at? We've kind of left DD's because my Dad is very anti-Catholic and they're going to be Christened Catholics (because of DH's wishes). We began planning it and it was cancelelled and i's kind of been left to one side at the moment.

fillybuster · 21/09/2010 20:35

I think the tummy bugs are about to land in the filly household too...DS threw up all over himself and the kitchen table after dinner and turns out to have a 39 degree fever....Mia has been grizzly all day with lots of explosive poo and an obviously sore tummy (and has a small temperature).......

Its not great timing as Mia is due for her second set of imms tomorrow morning and we've got a religious festival starting tomorrow evening with loads and loads of people coming over for meals over the next few days....guess I'd better go and start on the cooking before I get ill Biscuit

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/09/2010 21:02

LaT - we had dd done at 17 months, then this weekend we did ds1 who is 23 months, and J who is obv only 11 weeks.

OP posts:
latrucha · 22/09/2010 12:58

We are seriously lagging. And I don;t suppose having Godparents from Spain, Britain and Martinique is going to help in the organisation.

Little Daniel is proving to be so fara very different kettle of fish than his big sister. She is of course marvellous, but he is a very pacific little fellow and likes to eat and sleep which is making life a joy at the moment. If that makes you hate me, refer to Filly for reference to the awful sleep and feeding problems we had with DD. I've been there and it's horrible. You have my sympathy. I'm just waiting to see what horrors my little chap has in store for us. There's bound to be something!

(Do you think I unjinxed myself there Wink)

greensnail · 22/09/2010 14:11

Hope you don't get it as bad as we have filly. We're all still feeling rough today and it started on saturday with DD1. We've managed to give it to my parents too and they're meant to be going on holiday tomorrow, so I'm hoping they're feeling a bit better. Good luck with the cooking and hope it all works out ok.

LaT - I've been pondering whether its better to have your "easy" baby first or second. DD1 was very much of the eat and sleep variety and DD2 seems so far to be her complete opposite in every way possible. I was thinking its better to have the more demanding one first as you don't know any different and then the next would be a pleasant surprise, but I suppose there are a lot of advantages to the other way around too - at least you get the easier ride when parenthood is completely new to you.

Barbeasty · 22/09/2010 14:54

LaT- we had Ruth baptised at 6 weeks because her Godmother lives in Germany and was over on her annual trip to England at that point. But Spain & Martinique is a different proposition entirely!

I know I'm going to jinx it, but we got 6 hours sleep from Ruth last night... in her cot! We made her last feed an expressed one from a doidy cup and, after a change of clothes, put her in the cot (in her own room) and she fell asleep! This is the most we've had in a single stretch since she was born.

fillybuster · 22/09/2010 17:51

An American friend of mine just posted this article in the New Yorker to me. It's all about 'perfect parenting' and should help all of us feel much better about everything Grin

madamefreckle · 22/09/2010 22:15

Have you escaped the bug then so far filly? I'll have a read of the article in a minute - definitely need a boost!

Barbeasty Fingers crossed for another similar night for you! How did Ruth get on with the doidy cup? I've got one (left over from ds) and have been wondering when I could start giving Emma cooled boiled water or expressed milk in it (as I don't see the point of introducing a bottle at this stage)!

Re. swimming - We did aquatots with DS from 5 months - he can now swim a width independently at 3 1/2 - so I can justify the bloody fortune I've spent on it! The first few dunkings are pretty scary though! I won't start with Emma until after New Year though so she'll be a bit older and perhaps I'll be a bit less worried about the dunkings!

Sunworshipper - We're also off to Oz but in December. I think it'll be the ideal age to travel with a baby - she'll fit comfortably in a bassinet, prob not yet on solids so feeding should be easy... And DS will be old enough to enjoy movie after movie. Easy peasy!!! .....

Smilerjane - I have tried a bit of massage but only remember to do it when she's in pain and it just seems to annoy her more! I should really try to find time to do it when she's relaxed. But time and I aren't really seeing eye to eye at the moment! Grin

madamefreckle · 22/09/2010 22:22

Thank you filly! So good!
