CSWS hope you manage to sort everything out for yr op, sound v v stressful. Left Fergus with my mum for a couple of hours today and found that stressful. Am starting back at work (just part time) in a couple of weeks so trying to break them both in gently. Am so dreading going back to work which is funny as I was sure I would be climbing the walls with boredom by now and desperate to get back to work. Turns out I rather like being a stay at home mum and have no desire to work ever again at the moment. Sadly DH says I have to go back. At least I know Fergus will be well looked after as he is with my mum half the time and DH the rest. How is everyone who has already gone back to work finding it? Or do you have no time to go on mumsnet now?

Sleep here is not great at the mo as Fergus has had this never ending cold which has now gone into his chest so is on antibiotics. He keeps waking himself up coughing and he gets so upset. Am afraid all progress is quickly going out the window. Oh well.

Does anyone have any suggestions for holidays abroad that would be good to take babies on? Thinking of going away this summer while Fergus is still free but worried it will be a bit boring with a baby as he means we would be stuck in hotel all evening! Not sure if there is much point.

dinosaurinmybelly · 16/02/2011 23:04

Hello goodname I think the best thing to do while Fergus is this age is to see if grandparents / single Uncles etc will come along with you to at least give the 2 of you a night out on the town. Fergus will have a lot of fun in the daytime especially if there is a beach and some water so he will enjoy himself - it would be nice if you could too!

whenwillisleepagain · 16/02/2011 23:18

hello, think my name should be whenwillipostagain, as I never seem to have time.

CSWS - good luck with the surgery, sounds tricky getting childcare sorted

sorry to those with poorly children, perhaps the end of winter will help - I'm sure today's sun has been helping me.

Sleep - Alice is not doing much of it and certainly not much unless right next to me, preferably attached to my breast (from her point of view). I don't have the energy to sort out.

MonkeyMargot · 18/02/2011 20:55

csws good luck with the op. Great you are getting your gallstones sorted, nightmare regarding the childcare. Thanks for asking after the boys - they are slowly improving now the boys have the inhalers.
Although both have another V+D bug.....certainly willing the season of illness to be over.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/02/2011 22:07

Thread just dropped off my list again!

Have sorted some help for my op. My parents for a few days and then a friend who works with children is coming for a week, and then my parents will come back again if I need them.
Still expressing when I get a chance, but that isn't very often (not every day). Hopefully will have enough to get through a night (if necessary) by next week though. Have my pre-op appointment tomorrow so will talk more to them then about the likelihood of being 'allowed' out on the same day.

Moved Jeremy to his own room yesterday as part of our op prep. First night was reasonably promising.

He is now crawling as well as pulling himself to standing and cruising a little. He is of course the youngest on this thread, so just wondering how mobile the rest of your babies are now?

Poor thing has thrush at the moment because of antibiotics that I'm taking for tonsilitis. Looks horribly painful. 2 days of ABs left so hopefully it will get properly better after that (have cream from GP too).

Barbeasty · 22/02/2011 14:06

CSWS Glad you've got the help covered. And good luck with the op.

It sounds as though Ruth is about the same stage. She's getting into everything, especially if she shouldn't chew it.

She had a fever at the weekend, by seems to be mostly over it now. I however now feel a bit fluey and am on the sofa with duvet, feeling jealous of friends whose children sit still. If Ruth gets stuck under the side table again, I think I'll leave her there!

I'm glad to say we've had no more mice, but no more sleeping through either. Ah well.

greensnail · 22/02/2011 19:57

Great that you've got your help sorted CSWS, and hope the expressing continues to plan so you get enough in time. A night away from you might even help his sleeping, it certainly helped DD1 when I went back to work (nights) although she was a few months older.

I have one of the oldest babies on the thread (9 months tomorrow) and she's still firmly sitting on her bum. DD1 didn't crawl until 11 months so I'm not expecting any movement too soon, although she's starting to show some signs of wanting to move to get to interesting things so you never know.

latrucha · 22/02/2011 21:48

Hi all,

Daniel is desperate to go and is twisting and turning and lurching forward constantly. I hope, for his sake, it's not too long before he's on the move. He's so frustrated. I think it's going along with a clingy phase. Anyone else got a stick on baby at the moment? I don't need to hold him all the time, but I am constantly on call for climbing practise.

goodname · 23/02/2011 21:34

I have a clingy baby, cant leave the room for more than 20 seconds before wailing begins. Having a shower is becoming rather difficult. I also have one of the older babies on the thread and he is not very active. He likes to sit and is beginning to pull himself up ( can only do it successfully in the bath), seems a long way from crawling and hardly even bothers with rolling. He can push himself backwards sort of commando style though.
I am going back to work next week. Ahhhh! Dreading it. Have left him with my mum for a couple of hours twice in the last two weeks to get him used to it and he has not missed me at all apparently which is good (I think)

dinosaurinmybelly · 24/02/2011 00:58

Hello I have a very clingy baby here too at the moment, but the good news is that she is sleeping sounder. Still waking twice or more for a feed but it is just a little drink and then she drifts off into a noticeably deeper sleep than she has ever done. I'm hoping this is the route away from teething trouble and towards a longer night sleep. Now I must get to work on keeping DS1 and DS2 out of our bed (:

Good luck with everything CSWS- glad you have some help sorted post-op.

goodname sounds like everything is ready for your return to work. Hope it all goes well ..

Fillybuster · 24/02/2011 20:55

Surgically attached baby here, too :)

Bloody annoying....

We need a new thread title!!! How about

June 10 babies are growing apace: teething, weaning and wiggling over the place!

Sorry, that's a poor effort, too tired to come up with anything better :)

roundabout1 · 27/02/2011 20:20

Filly - very accurate thread title for here too! Lauren is clingy, doesn't want to be on her own on the floor mat etc whinges to be picked up but when I pick her up she's trying to clamber off my lap. Seems to be getting lots of bumps & this is before she's even crawling, just dives from a sitting position to try & get something on the floor - usually a bit of fluff or scrap of paper & normally ends up banging her head or chin.
Sleeping isn't brilliant but better than it was which isn't difficult! Still in with us which isn't want I want really but waiting for everyone to be well, end of school hols, lauren not to be teething etc before try to tackle that one!

CSWS - glad you have got your help sorted, hope all goes well for you

latrucha · 28/02/2011 20:51

Ugh. I hadn't forgotten this stage but I had hoped DS wouldn't go through it. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do anything except have my hands on him. When on earth are you supposed to clean the house? When? When?

roundabout1 · 28/02/2011 22:33

la t - clean the house - what's that??

latrucha · 01/03/2011 09:17

I'm tempted to buy a back carrier so I can do it with him on my back. Is that nuts?

roundabout1 · 01/03/2011 14:26

It depends how much the lack of housework is bothering you, and if it's something you'd use anyway it'd be a good idea. I'm so clumsy & have trouble bending my knees so bend over instead & I would be worried about having Lauren in it, would probably tip her out of it. Would be fine for more supple & co-ordinated ones though I'm sure!

Big achievement today in the roundabout household, clingy baby went out with her grandad to a grandparents toddlers session & didn't miss me at all. This is the first time she's been out with anyone other than dp so pleased about that. Shame that she's glued to my chest whenever I'm around though!

minimoonumbertwo · 01/03/2011 14:35

laT - get a cleaner - best £30 a week I have ever spent, EVER. Don't care if it means I have to cut back on something else, it is so so worth it.

latrucha · 01/03/2011 19:43

I did have one until a month ago but we couldn't afford to keep her on. That's why I'm finding it so hard.

I do think it's a brilliant use of money though!

Don't those back packs have straps then? I have never looked at one closely.

greensnail · 01/03/2011 19:53

laT - I get DH to take the girls out on saturday morning for a couple of hours. I spend an hour doing housework (its amazing how much you can get done in an hour with no distractions) and then I get an hour to myself to sit and drink coffee, eat cake and watch crap on the telly.

minimoo - we've been considering getting a cleaner for a while , but I worry I'd have to spend so much time tidying up to allow them to get in and clean that it might not be worth it. Do you find this is an issue?

roundabout - Alice is exactly the same and is constantly bumping her head as she reaches to get something and ends up flat on the floor. I'm glad its not just her as I can't remember DD1 going through this phase.

Have poorly children here again. DD1 is miserable all day and Alice is miserable all night. Not fun.

Good luck for tomorrow, CSWS.

whenwillisleepagain · 01/03/2011 20:43

Alice is totally clingy and also very frustrated with not crawling IYSWIM, she goes either backwards or nowhere, or does the falling over and wailing thing. She did settling in at same nursery as DS last week and started today. Staff thought it went well, not sure if Alice agreed.

We have a cleaner - she was DH's before we got married. I doubt anyone else would work in our crazy flat - I think she just redistributes the grime. However she does huge amounts of ironing, which more than makes up for it. I agree with the potential issue about tidying up, it is a hassle but I find it a good discipline in a weird way.

csws good luck for your op

MrsAlwaysRight · 01/03/2011 20:58

CSWS hope all goes well with your operation.

greensnail like your idea about housework although fear I may be too tempted to just sit and eat cake or sleep and not achieve much in the way of tidying or cleaning Smile

We are still suffering from disturbed nights. Not sure if its the latest tooth thats coming through or if its just been so long since she slept through she has just got out the habit.

Also still waiting to get appointment for allergy clinic. Have been told 13 week wait. We have cut all dairy out of her diet and apart from a random reaction to something unidentified last week after chewing on a wooden block which resulted in a very swollen lip, it seems to have helped. However duty Dr concerned that possibly she has multiple allergies and that reactions are getting more serious. He mentioned possibility of needing an epipen, but still no one seems to think she requires an urgent appointment. We are looking into the possibility of going private as this seems unacceptable to me.

latrucha · 01/03/2011 21:05

That was my idea too, but DH says if he's going to give me free time, it's for me to have fun, not to clean the house. Gotta love 'im.

MrsAR - I can see why you're worried. She needs one or she doesn't, right?

Good luck tomorrow CSWS.

goodname · 02/03/2011 13:29

Yeah housework is tough here just now also especially as I am back at work part time as well. Find it hard to keep on top of the piles of washing and house seems to need hoovered constantly but Fergus is scared of the hoover and I cant do it when he's asleep as it wakes him up. I try and just include Fergus in the housework, Let him play with clothes while doing the washing (we play peekaboo mostly), hide under covers when making beds etc. I can do dishes and wash worktops while holding him although thats getting harder now he grabs everything and tries to launch himself into sink etc..
I know that baby walkers are not exactly approved of these days but you could use one so he can follow you around while you are cleaning?

How many babies are actually crawling/pulling selves up now? Fergus is one of the oldests on here and I am a little concerned by his lack of movement.

Another question, Fergus is doing well with eating and breakfast and dinner are fine (eats what I eat) but I csn never think what to make for lunches. What does everyone else eat?

Bad nights here also, Fergus has another cold (I though bf babies were supposed to get less ill!) and he has had 4 new teeth through in the last couple of weeks. I am tired.

Mrs AR sounds very worrying, I would go private if you can afford it just for peace of mind. CSWS hope all goes well tomorrow.

minimoonumbertwo · 02/03/2011 13:58

csws good luck tomorrow.

MrsAR so annoying! Probably worth going private I would have thought.

Seb is very sedentary but it's starting to annoy him I think - he obviously has my lazy gene though as he can't be bothered to actually work out how to move to get to the things he wants. He is getting pretty lardy though so needs to get shifting soon!

Re the cleaner, I used to do the sat morning thing when it was just ds1 but found it so restricting & also used to get annoyed that my free time was spent cleaning AND I am basically rubbish at it!! I do end up having a 15 min tidy up before she arrives but nothing more than usual once ds1 is at nursery & Seb asleep, and having her has actually made dh more consistently tidy as he doesn't want to waste money - nothing like money to motivate him!

Enjoying the sunshine here - bloomin cold tho...

BraveGirl · 02/03/2011 18:39

J has been trying to master the crawl for a week and a half, but yesterday when i got home from school he crawled across lounge for a cuddle when he saw me. Today the nanny tells me he crawled from lounge to kitchen - a huge achievement!
Our cleaner does 2 and 1/2 hrs every fortnight, which is plenty for me, J and the DH in our 4 bed house. Some of the less frequently used rooms only get done once a month eg guest rooms, dining room but that's fine. Nanny does J's ironing and keeps tidy.
Went to Belgium over half term - didn't stop raining - everyone in hotel was v impressed by J's BLW eating! One guest wanted to take a video of him at breakfast!!!
Sleep is random...
