MrsAR you can always send some chocolate cake over this way if you get fed up with it Grin

greensnail · 25/08/2010 15:34

Hi all. I went for my mirena coil fitting this morning but they couldn't get it in. Apparently the muscles in my cervix were too tight and wouldn't let it through. Was quite sore while they were trying - could have done with a bit of gas and air! Anyway, I now have to go to the family planning clinic to get it done, which is a bit annoying as they apparently do coil fittings on a thursday morning which will be much less easy to get someone to look after DD1 for. Anyway, at least they managed to do my smear test while they were up there so it wasn't a totally wasted trip.

I have been sorting out all the 3-6 month clothes I have stashed away for Alice this morning. She's quite a titch and still fits her 0-3 month stuff but I'm getting a bit bored of all the neutral colours so want to dress her in some new bits. Anyway, I have far more 3-6 month clothes than we could ever need, so if anyone is short on clothes let me know and I'll pass some on. Mampam, do you have enough for Tilly?

latrucha · 25/08/2010 19:58

Greensnail - ouch!

Goodname - I'm afraid of the Amby because the friend who lent it didn't put in the instructions for how to use it - although they did put it up for me. I then searched on here and came up with some safety concerns so got a bit wibbly. But believe me - the crook of my arm is the place to be!

Daniel has put on a kilo since the 20th August so very happy. He's a nice little chunk. So different from DD. Today, I put him to the breast and he had a little snuffle about, then looked up at me and gave me a really sparkly smile, openedn his mouth and latched on. Priceless!

These babies don't stay small long enough. May need to have another! (although I'm also beginning to remember the hell of teething with trepidation!)

Anyone else thinking of more? If not now, later on...

greensnail · 25/08/2010 20:09

LaTrucha - I think this is the stage where I get the most broody. Its when she stops looking so much like a newborn and I start to think "ooh I'd like a nice new squidgy one again" Grin. Last time the broodiness settled down once DD1 started to sleep a lot better and be in more of a routine and I started to think I didn't want to go through all that craziness again.

Today I was feeling a bit broody and after the coil incident I started thinking maybe I shouldn't bother. Then I got a letter through from the liver doctor and all the reasons why I really don't want to be pregnant again any time soon came rushing back!

latrucha · 25/08/2010 21:26

I'm hoping the broodiness will go away. We always wanted three or more, but there are lots of reasons not to have another. Apart from the annoying fact that we want one!

Ok, I need some help here guys, from those of you with more than one (although others are welcome to comment too, of course!) We're having trouble with DD at night at the moment. She's usually a really good sleeper but she's all at sea now she's realised that Danny stays with us when she goes to bed and then sleeps in my room. She's really keen on Danny but more thana bit jealous. She's crying repeatedly after going to bed and has twice screamed so hard she's made herself sick despite us going up to reassure her frequently. We're pretty firm with her if we have to go up more than twice and we don't bring her down (which is what she wants). She's also waking in the night wanting me although DH goes to her and does manage to settle her.

My impulse is just to keep on as we are and she'll get back into it. What do you think?

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/08/2010 21:55

Well laT, having been through that when we had ds1, I would suggest that your dh bungs a mattress/airbed/whatever you have on the floor in your dd's room and sleeps with her for a while, until she settles down. That is what we did, and it worked for us. Try to see things from her point of view, and it must be very hard, so this method shows her compassion whilst ensuring that no-one has an uninterrupted night, even if you're not all sleeping where you would choose.

I assume that you meant a kilo since 20th July, and not that he's gained that much in 5 days!!!!

OP posts:
latrucha · 25/08/2010 22:18

That was DH's idea CSWS. Maybe we'll give it a whirl. DH does snore pretty badly though....

Yes, I did mean July. Oh hell, maybe I'm not taking sleep deprivation as much in my stride as I thought Grin

fillybuster · 25/08/2010 22:58

Haven't caught up since my last post (been flat out!) but I need help....Nizzy , Next are showing 1-2 weeks delivery on the body shaper thing....aaarrghh.....!!!

I've bought a dress I can feed in (not a bf dress but its stretchy!), now I need to sort out the underneath. Spanx alone are not going to do it as my problem is high tummy area....

Does anyone know of secret supply of Next bodyshape things in London??? Or does anyone have something in medium (size 12-14 ish) I can borrow for this Sunday??

Aaarghhh...!!

mampam · 26/08/2010 09:43

filly try M&S that's where I get mine from!

laT wow Daniel's going great guns with his weight. Sorry no advice about DD not sleeping, been far too long for me to remember what it was like with my older DC's. I would be inclined to keep going as you are and not giving into her. She'll soon cotton on that you're not going to budge. Grin

Tilly's still sleeping well and I've worked out why I'm so tired. Tilly's being sick quite frequently, in fact it's horrendous. Our day starts off really well, she has some great feeds in the morning and is really content but by the afternoon she us unhappy and throwing up everywhere after a feed, then is starving again because she's brought most of her feed back up.

Just to top it off her weight gain has slowed right down over the last 4 weeks and now she hasn't gained any weight for over a week. Been to see GP and we've now got some baby Gaviscon to try......hopefully it'll work.

NizzyNoodles · 26/08/2010 11:25

filly try m&s or debenhams or house of fraser? I think they all sell similar . I must have been lucky with my size then - hope you get it sorted

Sam had his jabs and 8 week check this week and now weighs 12lb 6oz so has dropped a few percentiles to be average now - still looks big to me!

Latrucha stick with it - we have this every now and then with DD1 and find that if we're consistent for a few nights she gets over it but sometimes in the middle of the night that's not the easiest thing to do and she ends up in someone elses bed! When she's really bad we have to stay with her until she's fallen asleep or is just about to drop off - which is sometimes better as she can acknowledge that we've left the room so it's not a shock when she wakes up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2010 13:01

nizzy - that's what my ds weighed at 5.5 weeks, so we have overtken you!

Those of you who have babies that sleep well at night and are in some sort of routine/pattern, can you share how much and when they sleep during the day please?

OP posts:
greensnail · 26/08/2010 14:32

That won't be me then CSWS. The dummy seems to be becoming a real issue at night time now. I realised last night that I'm putting it back in for Alice about once every hour and I think she's been like that the last few nights. Previously she was sleeping soundly till about 3, having a feed and then going back until 6 or 7. Putting the dummy back isn't too much of an issue now as she's right next to me in the moses basket, but she'll need to go into the cot soon which will mean me getting out of bed to put it back (cot is about 2 steps away from the bed).

Anyone got any advice? Not sure whether to carry on and hope this is a phase that will pass again in a few days, or whether to try and stop giving her the dummy through the night.

whenwillisleepagain · 26/08/2010 17:53

Hi everyone and welcome rizey

So much of what you all write about is familiar! Housework pile-up - yup. Laughing baby and how fab that is - yup. Wanting to lose some weight - yup. Nights disturbed, not so much by the new arrival, but by older DC - oh yes.

DS has been soaking wet at least once every night recently. He has been wearing pull-up nappies, but I have just had a slight thought that he might be pulling them down because he knows being wet gives him a reason to get some mummy time in the early hours. DH says I'm attributing too much cunning to a child of 3&3/4. But, having put him back into sticky sided nappies, he's been dry the last 2 nights. This morning he appeared at 6am and said 'mummy I'm not wet but can I sleep with you anyway?'. So I just wonder about my theory...He certainly doesn't like it that Alice sleeps with us and he doesn't.

Saw GP last week re HV's concerns about Alice's weight. GP thought she was fine. Headed to Child Health clinic yesterday - a different HV declared her weight to be fine and no need to go back for 4 weeks.

MrsAlwaysRight · 26/08/2010 18:23

Had Alice's hospital appointment about her heart murmur today and they couldn't find it and said everything looked/sounded absolutely fine which is fab. Annoyingly though her notes were put in the wrong place when we arrived so had to wait 1.5 hours to be seen as the doctor didn't know we were there until DH went to check how much longer we would have to wait!

latrucha we use bribery with DD1 and if she goes to bed without making a fuss she gets a treat in the morning, either a sticker or chocolate button.

CSWS Alice is sleeping through the night but doesn't seem to have any real pattern to her sleep during the day. Some days she sleeps nearly all day, others she will have one long sleep 2-4 hours and a few cat naps and other days she is awake for long periods with just a few power naps!

greensnail does Alice try to suck her thumb or fingers at all? If she does maybe it would be worth trying to encourage her to do that as she won't be able to lose them in the night! Have almost finished off the last of the cake but thanks for your offer of help! Smile

DD1's 3rd birthday tomorrow. Can't believe how quickly those years have gone. Have a busy weekend of birthday celebrations for her and are hoping to go to Cotswold Wildlfe Park with her tomorrow depending on the weather.

Hope everyone has a fab bank holiday weekend.

greensnail · 26/08/2010 19:55

Great news MrsAlwaysRight :)

Yes, she does make some attempts at sucking her fingers during the day, but it doesn't seem to satisfy her and she ends up crying for the dummy anyway. She hasn't managed to find her thumb yet, which is probably the breakthrough we need. She's still swaddled at night so she's not able to get to her hands anyway. Should probably start to think about weaning her off the swaddle but she really struggles to settle without it.

MonkeyMargot · 26/08/2010 21:23

Good news MRsAlways - hooray!

greensnail I was using dummies but have stopped now as I ended up, like you, getting up several times a night to reinsert. I think they may have wailed a little the first time, but didn't fuss after that. They have since "found" their thumbs. And now they sleep soundly all night long.

CSWS the boys sleep patterns are as follows:
7am - milk
8:45 - 10:15 - sleep
10:30 - milk
11:45-2pm sleep
2pm - milk
3:45 - 4:45 - sleep
5pm - milk
6pm - bath
6:30 - milk
7pm - bed

They are getting around 4.5 - 5 hours sleep a day. I looked at the Gina Ford book yesterday and she reckons at 10 weeks they should only be sleeping 3.5 hours a day in order for them to sleep at night. Goes to show how much it all varies per child, as the boys are sleeping like logs at night and definitely need those 3 good sleeps in the daytime.

LaTrucha we were having similiar issues with DD at bedtime. It got to breaking point when I was sitting in my room BF the twins listening to her wailing and screaming for DH whilst he tried to put her to bed, with her screaming "mama".
We have now adjusted things so twins in bed a little earlier so I can still put DD to bed and she seems happy with this. Are you still putting her to bed? With our DD, it seemed she needed to see that the DTs were asleep, and hence she wasn't "missing out" on anything.

Re. broodiness, whilst 3 under 2 should be enough, I have moments of (hormonal) weakness where I long for another girl...
filly good luck with the spanx/pants!

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2010 22:11

Brilliant news MrsAR!

Thanks for that margot. Ds sleep is quite terrible at the moment, both daytimes and evenings. Took til 9:30 to get him settled properly tonight.

OP posts:
latrucha · 27/08/2010 14:06

CSWS - Daniel usually comes up with me at around 10 and settles then. He's really not up for it any earlier. I've decided to thnik about it when he's 3-4 months.

MM - this is precisely dd's problem. She thinks she's missing out. Daniel is far from sleepy at that time though. He's just gearing up for hs evening feeding marathon. I do put her in bed. She wants me to but it doesn't make any difference i fit is me or DH.

I have thought about seeing if he will sleep then but I really don't think so. Also, if he's waking frequently it will mean even more disruption for dd.

She's very happy and gets lots of love and attention during the day. ATM we're still 'visiting' after she goes to bed. It's under review though if it seems to be getting too tough.

fillybuster · 27/08/2010 20:16

Have purchased scary-looking underwear from M&S but not had the guts (or perhaps have too many...!) to try them on yet. Will report back tomorrow...fingers crossed they work the promised magic :)

LaT - I've started flexing Mia's and the olders dcs bedtime routines (older dcs going to bed earlier whilst Mia has a short nap before milk, bath and her bedtime) so that I can give them 30 mins undivided attention at the end of the day. Seems to be working atm...

I think we always hit a dummy/swaddling issue around this point....on the one hand, they're not quite developed enough to do the whole thumb/mouth coordination thing on a regular enough basis to provide proper sucking, but on the other they're fighting to get out of their swaddles and want their dummies back! We started half-swaddling Mia about a week ago (8 weeks) and found it made little difference to her sleeping, so have now shifted her into a sleeping bag. She still wants her dummy around 6am, and sometimes I have to give it back a couple of times then, when she knocks it out by managing to insert her fist for a moment, but then she settles back to sleep - hopefully another week or so and her fingers will be more reliable so the dummy will go back to being just at the beginnging of a sleep.

Mia has done a week of 11-7.30 although regularly wakes and needs a bit of settling around 5 for a moment. She's sleeping/feeding on a 3 hour cycle from 7.30am (so up for 1.5 hours then down for the same, right through the day, apart from a quick 30 min power nap before milk, bath and bedtime in the evening). Total daytime sleep = approx 5 hours.

greensnail · 27/08/2010 20:39

We had a much better night dummy-wise last night. I only had to put it in twice during the night I think, and they were both after I had disturbed her by putting my hand on her chest to check her breathing. I think the problem may be me sabotaging her sleep Blush so tonight she is in the cot so I can't disturb her without getting out of bed.

Have been thinking about this a lot today. I really struggled when DD1 started sleeping through and used to lie awake imagining terrible things had happened to her or get up to check on her continuously. I really need to try and get over this or I'm in for some rubbish nights when Alice eventually sleeps through too.

justbeme · 27/08/2010 21:45

CSWS - A is a terrible sleeper too - daytime, he seems to want to be held an awful lot and feeds every 2hours or less and night time - the most he has done is 6 hours (from about 1930) and then feeds every 2 hours or so. I found dream feeding made no difference at all.
Can't say Im enjoying it all at the moment. I like the cooing and smiles, but the rest of it is very wearing!! It was so much easier with just one small child in the house!! I take my hat off to single mums!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2010 12:27

Blimey - I thought that we were having a busy weekend, but it seems that you are all even busier as no-one has posted!

Ds has been sleeping a bit better - hurrah!

Probs with our internet connection at the moment, so just hoping that this will post. Allegedly will take til Thurs to fix.

Hi all. I'm absolutely shattered today. DD1 decided not to go to bed yesterday, and then DD2 was up every hour after DD1 finally settled. I had been hoping for an early night as I wasn't feeling well, so feel totally rotten today.

Alice had her injections today and has flaked out at 5.30 this evening. I've been waiting for her to wake up so I can put her to bed properly then go to bed myself but she's still fast asleep now. Maybe I should try moving her to the cot as she is and going to bed anyway. If she has gone down for the night at 5.30 I'm probably in for an early morning tomorrow.

Barbeasty · 01/09/2010 17:37

Greensnail- hope you weren't up too early this morning! (and hope you're feeling better)

We had a lovely day out today with 3 of Ruth's cousins. We went with their grandmothers to Westonbirt arboretum and watched them (the cousins, and the grandmas!) play on the things that are hidden in clearings in the trees.

We'd had a couple of nights where Ruth seemed to be extending her sleep out to 4 or 5 hours at a time, but that all went to pot last night and I don't think I got more than 2 hours in any one stint and we were up by about 6am. Hopefully all the fresh air she's had today will make her super sleepy...
