What are my responsibilities....

Cracking line, hope they are going to crack down on the "entitled" culture, it is all over this board like a rash at the best of times.

Well it wont do DC any harm, he is in No 10 tonight.

I think Camoron sees himself as pretty "entitled".

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 22:54

of course no-one says that right Lemonade......but that doesn't mean that single parents in particular have never been pretty low down the pecking order as far as Tory governments and policies have been concerned in the past.....and I can't personally see that changing any time in the future either.

edam · 11/05/2010 22:54

(headless - it's fine to quote Kennedy by name, quite another thing to try to pass off a poor imitation of the original as all your own work.

alienbump · 11/05/2010 22:54

I'd just like to say as part of a happily married, uppper tax bracket paying family unit I felt hugely worried by that line. But the difference is, I voted labour and felt worried for others not myself. Yippee, if anybody is going to "do well" under a tory government it will probably be me, but guess what, I don't need to do any better - a lot of others do.....

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 22:55

'Well it wont do DC any harm, he is in No 10 tonight.'

Yeah, and JFK was in the White House, too.

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 22:55

exactly edam - I suppose they'll get their "better society" by making us all cling together to survive (the ones of us that are already down here) and many more will probably come and join us (but don't worry we're a friendly bunch and try and help each other out as much as we can).

edam · 11/05/2010 22:56

Well done quattro, can't believe I'd forgotten it was that idiot Quayle. Suspect Cam will be more like Quayle than Kennedy, tbh.

So target them and not criminals?

Criminals don't work, either, and they cost the taxpayer a bomb.

DuelingFanjo · 11/05/2010 22:58

define "vunerable".

edam · 11/05/2010 22:59

I suspect they'll try to distract ordinary people into fighting amongst ourselves for the scraps, while the rich make off with the full roast and all the trimmings as usual, tbh. Start demonising people claiming benefits, with the Mail and Sun trying to persuade people clinging onto their jobs and suffering pay freezes it's all the fault of the 'work-shy'.

nearlytoolate · 11/05/2010 22:59

Herbietea does that go for SAHM too?

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 22:59

now if you'll excuse me I'mm off to eat chocolate and drink coffee and find a slightly less depressing thread for a while whilst I consider how to explain to my DS's that their "father" probably won't be having them at the weekend as he told them he would...........

of course no-one bats an eyelid about the absent fathers (and a few mothers as well sadly) who do f*ck all to support their children.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 23:02

So if you don't need child benefit, do you still claim it?

Do you have elderly relatives who get Winter Fuel Allowance and don't really need it?

Do you know any non-doms? Do you think this form of tax evasion should be allowed?

Do you think those who were given golden handshakes and pensions funded by teh taxpayer bailout of the banks should be forced to give those monies back?

RustyBucket · 11/05/2010 23:03

If I was DC the first thing I would do would be to reform the single parents allowance, or the unmarried mothers or whatever its called.

Any girl can make a mistake once and have a child, after that it is stupidity and greed.

I am not talking about people who were married and then find themselves single, I am talking about the silly little who got PG, get a flat, fail to settle into a stable relationship but manage to procreate with every man who comes along.

Why in the name of FK should the state support them ??

herbie, I don't know if you've noticed but there's been this thing called a recession which we seem to be just about climbing out from under... anyway, it means there are fewer jobs and more people out of work. Where exactly do you think all these jobs are coming from for the people you criticise? And if you were an employer, who would you want to recruit, someone newly unemployed, or someone who had been on benefits for a while and who (in your opinion) doesn't really want to work?

ninah · 11/05/2010 23:04

yes this country has been bled dry - literally - by the 'entitled' since feudalism

TheStraitsofWTF · 11/05/2010 23:05

"When we don't ask where what am I just owed, but more what can I give"

I trust we'll hear no complaints if taxes get raised, then?

And right now the country has been bled dry = i.e. put into massive debt - by fuckwit bankers, not benefits claimants.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 23:05

Oh, please. No mention of men who go round procreating without a second thought.

TRIP TRAP.

Don't feed it.

toccatanfudge · 11/05/2010 23:06

ermm there is no "single parents allowance" or "unmarried mothers" - there's income support that some get, and then they go onto Job Seekers allowance once their child is older.

Being on either of those is not the domain of the single parent.

And how exactly would you differentiate between the people that were married and the ones that have "procreated with every man that came along"???

DuelingFanjo · 11/05/2010 23:06

let them starve of course, specially the children, the little bastards.

edam · 11/05/2010 23:06

The overwhelming majority of single parents are ordinary women who were in a marriage or relationship when they had kids. Think typical age is well into their 30s. Not this right-wing media stereotype of a 'feckless' teenage mum (and anyway, when researchers have actually looked in detail at teenage mothers, they've found they actually do a pretty good job by and large - certainly no worse than more elderly prima gravidae like me).

Ninjacat · 11/05/2010 23:06

WTF is "Single Parents Allowance"? Did that come from the Mail?

ninah · 11/05/2010 23:07

I do hope it is expat
