What are my responsibilities....

Cracking line, hope they are going to crack down on the "entitled" culture, it is all over this board like a rash at the best of times.

"the benefit breeders are about to learn harsh lessons but have only themselves to blame"

hmm a kind of neo-eugenics. Pious, self regarding, historically ignorant...

Scratch a Tory...a fascist lies just under the skin...

ilovemydogandMrBrown · 12/05/2010 08:39

Disagree. If you start including categories, then not mentioning a group, it could be deduced that they are excluded. I don't think he intended to do it, but he needs to realize his words now as PM, as opposed to leader of the opposition, actually mean something.

Frail, in my mind means fragile, not disabled. My grandmother, for instance is fragile. Lots of people who are physically and mentally disabled could be described as rather robust.

I think his speech was superb.

I totally agree that we need to have a support system for those who need it; who knows, any one of us could need help one day. But it needs to be a fair system and one that we are proud of.

Yes he is going to make huge spending cuts, but I also believe that he will tax those who can afford it. I voted Tory and didn't for one second think it would make me better off. As a country we have nearly a trillion pounds of debt to pay off. I am fully prepared to pay more taxes and forgo on other things. I know that I am slso very lucky to be in the position where I can say that. There but for the grace of god I go.

The bottom line is that as a country we simply cannot afford to keep giving everything labour gave. We have no money. He and his cabinet have some very difficult decisions to make!

'genuine asylum seekers'

Do you honestly believe people run away from their homes with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their backs and risk their lives or sell their souls (and put their families at home in danger) to organised crime gangs to people traffic them in here for benefits?

FFS.

They get £30/week to live on. They are not allowed to work.

They are housed, in Glasgow at least, in dispicable dumps that are awaiting demolition.

Sure, there are a few rogues. But many are women with young children fleeing for their lives.

mamatomany · 12/05/2010 08:56

That's what happens when you rely on the state or indeed anybody else for your basic human needs. There's a danger one day it'll stop. Labour have created this situation.

As always Riven this like so many other threads is not applicable to you but you seem to take it so personally. It's clear that you are in genuine need and nobody would begrudge you a penny but surely you must see there are plenty of others basically taking the piss and literally taking the food from your mouth ?

mamatomany · 12/05/2010 08:57

And to many expat £30 a week is a huge amount comparable to what they left behind.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
Well you'll have to now it's going to be shoved up your nose.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2010 08:57

I cannot believe the number of brain dead people who have fallen for this pathetic game of wag the dog.

Scapegoat the poorest of the poor to try to keep the masses from noticing how little the rich pay.

Is there a British version of Bill Gates, Ted Turner or Warren Buffet? Do you see the British super rich putting their hands in their pockets and giving away billions to charity?

Ask yourself why not next time you think it's okay to pillory poor children and make them pay for the 'sins' of their parents.

That's not society, that's barbarism.

mistletoekisses · 12/05/2010 08:59

'Genuine asylum seekers.'

Expat - My parents came from India. Hard working, never claimed any benefits. But I can tell you that they know of hundreds of asylum seekers 'working' the system. Of course there are lots who dont. But in India, England is seen as the holy grail by many of the poor. It is a long standing joke that this is the only country where you can get everything for free...and for doing nothing.

'And to many expat £30 a week is a huge amount comparable to what they left behind.

So you think people go and leave everything and sell out to organised crime for £30/week?

Get.real.

'Wake up and smell the coffee.
Well you'll have to now it's going to be shoved up your nose. '

My, aren't you pleasant?

mamatomany · 12/05/2010 09:00

The rich need to be turned upside down and have their pockets shaken too, that's an entirely separate issue.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2010 09:01

Oh, okay, that makes it okay for non-doms and others to not pay tax then.

Let's just pin it all on asylum seekers and poor people.

They're the cause of all teh world's ills.

I think you need to read up on the cost of living in different countries.

pickledmonkey · 12/05/2010 09:04

next week he'll be telling people to 'get on their bikes'

mamatomany · 12/05/2010 09:05

the rich always threaten to leave the country if someone suggests taxing any of them.

But they don't usually go do they ?

Completely agree that responsibilities and entitlement applies to the rich as much as the poor, it's the middle earners that have been squeezed for the past 10 years and I for one hope that yesterday was the end of it.
The system needs to be fairer for everyone, lets hope today is a fresh start.

mamatomany - I like the nice use of dehumaizing language to justify excluding some citizens from due consideration though. It is very hard for anyone to agree with you (and I do agree with some of your points - up to a point) when they are expressed in such unpleasant language.

mamatomany · 12/05/2010 09:08

Sorry I simply do not do fluffy, it's much better to dehumanize in my field of work, nothing personal.

ooojimaflip · 12/05/2010 09:09

Riven/mamatomany - the rich might not leave, but their money might.
