Here's a tweet that made me laugh:

"Schoolboy error: LibCons have heard 'home' and 'secretary' and accidentally appointed the nearest woman."

policywonk · 13/05/2010 19:14

Someone said earlier on that you have to be a member for a year before you can participate in a leadership election, SGM.

taffetacat · 13/05/2010 19:19

shouldn't but @ Quattro

any joke at the expense of the odious Mrs May ( OMG isn't she Biff and Kipper's teacher?) is good by me

Melanie Phillips??? After the week I've had?

I would spontaneously combust

...and pleeeese don't dump this thread (I know tis easy for me to say, as I'm mostly lurking) but I have found it lively, witty, informative and just- just- fab

[inarticulate]

...it's been a lifeline over the week to some of us lurky types. It reminds me of when I used to have a (lefty) social life and have heated debates. In pubs.

Beachcomber · 13/05/2010 19:48

Loving your link Prolesworth - that is pretty much exactly how I feel, especially this bit;

"But one issue apparently agreed upon by all the main parties is a government had to be found that would satisfy the markets. Because to solve the economic crisis caused by the people who run the markets, we must pick a government that doesn't upset the people who run the markets.

A consensus has been created that the deficit must must MUST be cut, as if to oppose cuts in welfare and public spending is as futile as trying to stop the laws of physics. So we'll now have a period of new modern politics, in which a Prime Minister from Eton and a Chancellor from St Paul's in coalition with a chap from Westminster Public School force the bulk of the population to pay for a mess they didn't create, rather than upset the richest one per cent who've enjoyed an unprecedented rise in their wealth."

I know we have already had the meerkats derision thing on these threads but the whole subject just pisses me off so much.

taffetacat · 13/05/2010 20:06

I agree with what has been said about keeping these threads going. I have nobody to talk politics with in RL, living in a Tory enclave with an evil Tory DH. Have lovely Lefty parents but they live miles away and like ti discuss their health and bowel and meal minutae more these days.

Have lots of friends thru the DC here, but talking politics is anathema, except for with the local Tory district councillor.

I have learnt loads on here the past week, and don't want to go to other political threads at the mo and get involved in bickering. I want to take the piss out of LibCons and I don't want anyone getting upset about it.

S'there

Ooer, slightly bemused by all the huffiness that I seem to have missed today.

I saw tweets from Mark Thomas mentioned further down the thread - does anyone know his twitter name? I'd like to follow him and can't find him [twitter luddite emoticon]

onebatmother · 13/05/2010 20:29

thank you! off to larf at Vince Cable's expense.

I did much enjoy that Lucy Mangan piece from earlier. It gives such a lovely warm feeling when favourite journalists turn out to have the same politics (although the fact that she called her boyfriend "ToryBoy" had alerted me to the suspicion that she might be left leaning.)

Taffetacat - maybe you and her should form a support group for women shackled to politically misguided but otherwise loveable men?

Beachcomber · 13/05/2010 20:39

TV gold tonight - HIGNFY plus QT but most importantly Never Mind The Buzzcocks!!! Hurrah (although no Bill Bailey ).

And nothing clashes!

theyoungvisiter · 13/05/2010 20:40

Hooray for hignfy!

Even if they do have the same gender balance at the Tory cabinet. And roughly the same ratio of public school boys, one suspects.

i'm going to take a short break from this thread - a bit blindsided by sophable's thread and think it's not unrealistic to think that it was mainly about me.

Anyway, have said what I feel - I hope honestly and respectfully - on the other thread.
