Ohh Paddy Ashdown damning with feint praise. Something about NC raising up to lead his minority government made me chuckle

DavidHameron · 07/05/2010 10:59

Aw bless Caroline Lucas: I didn't see her seat come in and the look on her face as it is announced is blubworthy...

GetOutOfMoiWayTories · 07/05/2010 11:02

I also cried a lot last night (and I am not pregnant).

Just depressed with it all.

I am bloody knackered as well and have now got to go into a meeting to talk about lasers. I think mayt crawl under desk and sleep the sleep of the dead.

Signing in. I can't drag my backside away from the telly...and am fascinated to see what the hell is going to happen next.

My sick sense of humour quite fancies the idea of the Tories forming a minority government and being torn to shreds over every new potential policy ending in a vote of No Confidence.

I dare them to start by attempting to lift the fox-hunting ban

DavidHameron · 07/05/2010 11:03

I couldn't possibly comment, Proles.

Nymphadora · 07/05/2010 11:03

Just cried at Caroline Lucas again

I WANT A GREEN MP

policywonk · 07/05/2010 11:03

Constitutionally, the PM has to not put her Madgy-Wadgy in a difficult position by remaining in office if he's not confident of commanding a majority. So if it's a definite 'no' from Clegg (and it sure sounded like it) Gordon has to step down, basically.

By putting the ball into the tory court, Clegg has made everyone follow his agenda.

  • Gordon Brown now loses his ability to form a government as of constitutional right. Without that, he's not going to survive a week as PM.

  • David Cameron can't get his party to provide guarantees on PR, and so can't form a government. If he can't do this, his party will eat him whole.

  • This leaves a new, weak and electorally untested Labour leader fighting for control of a Lib-Lab coalition. He may win.

Clegg looks like he's been consistent and honest, whilst making it more likely that he's the PM at the end of the month.

DavidHameron · 07/05/2010 11:05

Good analysis MrJusta

I can't drag myself away either. Not that knackered though - turned in at 1.30 thinking it was going to be very bad. Apart from the poor LDs losing seats, its actually about as good as it could have been (tries to adopt glass half full attitude). But GB could still fuck up quite badly.

theyoungvisiter · 07/05/2010 11:06

Just listened to the BBC news summary - and it struck me that EVERYONE has done craply.

The summary was basically "x has done worse than hoped, x has failed to make gains hoped for, x has failed to secure a majority".

The only bright spark was the Green party who gained their longed for seat (yay!).

I think this really shows the public's desire to punish ALL politicians. They don't like anyone enough to return a majority. One way or another, somehow the result usually echoes the real feelings of the people. Democracy is a "strange and wonderful thing" to quote paxo.

ZephirineDrouhin · 07/05/2010 11:06

Yes I just stifled a sob at Caroline Lucas.

Zac Goldsmith is a quite extraordinary caricature of a toff. But he is at least properly green which has to be a good thing doesn't it? (Although it seems so improbable I can't quite believe it.)

Nymphadora · 07/05/2010 11:08

GETORF Are the lasers the latest Labour weapon?

Love the challengers to Cameron just seen them in the background

KnottyLocks · 07/05/2010 11:08

Bloody hell, Clegg's a sharp one. Now, I can't decide if I trust him or not.
