Anxious Conservatives thread!

As the lefties have one, we need one too.

I have everything crossed for them to win, by however small a margin, and red wine and arsenic ready in case they lose...

I daren't stay up as my nerves can't take it. I just desperately want to wake up to a Conservative government tomorrow morning.

Lefties, please don't intrude. I have deliberately started this thread so as not to pester you on your anxious thread. It feels mean and unnecessary to tell you why you are wrong on your own thread.

Well said Dave

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 14:46

he would need 316 to win. Or he could gain 5 by bribing sinn fein... I need to go and call DC

TDiddy · 07/05/2010 14:50

lots of poker and games to play here. This isn't a good start for DC. He would have wanted Blair-like momentum?

Alibabaandthe40tories · 07/05/2010 14:52

Ok, so Trident, the Euro and Immigration are non-negotiable.

Everything else is therefore on the table?

Good speech, I liked 'the outgoing Labour government'.

lilmissmummy · 07/05/2010 14:57

I was v disappointed that he didnt win outright and that DC will have to haggle to get into power. Just hoping with fingers and toes crossed that they can get GB out!

ps. I haven't got anything intelligent to contribute today either as v. tired!

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 14:59

bloody marvellous speech from DC, thats what we need a clear and concise leader, he knows what he wants and how to do it.
Think he'll have gained some respect for that one.
Hope its enough to get him in as PM

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 15:04

I just got back and missed DC's speech. What did he say? Can anyone give me a quick summary?

ajandjjmum · 07/05/2010 15:15

He was good - offering compromise for the good of the country. None of the silly political point-scoring - just very accepting of working together for the greater good if they can agreed.

He didn't look knackered either!!

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 15:16

2 more gains for us!

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 15:17

and another!

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 15:18

ooo...errr... maybe that was the one that just flashed up

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 15:22

Thanks aj. OOhhh!!

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 15:40

Another gain

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 15:42

Is that one left now? I am all abit lost... is that it for today?

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 07/05/2010 15:43

Oh, we still have a white blob in the south as well as the may27th blob

BeenBeta · 07/05/2010 15:49

Good speech by DC there. Interesting that John Major was on Sky. Suggesting Lib Dems will get cabinet seats. Seems perfectly reasonable.

ASecretLemonade - it is not going to happen but I happen to think that NI should be given its own parliament and exclusive tax raising powers and the freedom to join Eire if it wishes.

TDiddy/Alouiseg - "Anybody "spiving and speculating on the currency market""

Its all me and DW do all day - but we are only doing it for the good of society of course. Possibly even doing God's work. So it is OK to confess.

Alibabaandthe40tories · 07/05/2010 15:58

Major was very good there I thought, and I personally would have no problem with the odd Liberal or two in the Cabinet.

Very interesting few days ahead! If the situation with the markets and the economy wasn't so serious then this would be fascinating to watch. As it is, it's just terrifying.

Strix · 07/05/2010 16:32

According to Sky, Cons want to seal deal with Libs by Sunday night - before markets open on Monday.

I know it's not the ideal result. But, I am happy with it. Ther eis no way Brown can carry on. He is simply revealing himslef as the fool I always knew he was.

Fully expect Cameron and Clegg to strike deal very soon. And announce their coalition majority. Cameron will be PM. But, some Libs will be in government too.

We are in a better place than we have been for 13 years. This is good.

Now, fully anticipating another election in the not too distant future... how can we all support the key cons candidates and get that majority?

VicToryA · 07/05/2010 17:08

Sensiblel and encouraging post, Strix. I am hugely, hugely disappointed that it wasn't a landslide Conservative victory, of course, but you're spot on that we're in a better place than we have been for 13 years. And if Brown is out, that's a result in itself.

VicToryA · 07/05/2010 17:08

Sensiblel? Unlike me.

Is he the only PM in the history of the UK who was never elected?

nikki1978 · 07/05/2010 17:13

My worry is that tory or tory-lib dem will govern and the public will get peed off with the cuts (needed of course) and vote labour in a general election called in a year.

That is what concerns me most atm.

Strix · 07/05/2010 17:15

Yes, that worries me too.

VicToryA · 07/05/2010 17:16

Me too.

mistletoekisses · 07/05/2010 17:19

Am late to the discussions...saw DC give his speech, thought it was fantastic. But do people really think this will end in a lib dem/ tory coalition? Am worried that labour will roll on everything and it will be a labour/ lib dem coalition....
