As the lefties have one, we need one too.

I have everything crossed for them to win, by however small a margin, and red wine and arsenic ready in case they lose...

I daren't stay up as my nerves can't take it. I just desperately want to wake up to a Conservative government tomorrow morning.

Lefties, please don't intrude. I have deliberately started this thread so as not to pester you on your anxious thread. It feels mean and unnecessary to tell you why you are wrong on your own thread.

Ah yes whiffle, take with one hand give with the other & add on plenty on conditions eh?

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 09:58

"ANd what on earth was the point of that silly boat with all the tipsy luvvies? THey could have cast them adrift and nobody would have noticed."

I know. Completely pointless wasn't it. Drunk celebs air-kissing and talking about nothing.

bebejones · 07/05/2010 10:00

So yet again we are ending up with a PM that the country didn't elect!

Disappointed the Tories didn't do better, although they have taken the seat off labour here. Just think this is going to be a disaster.

crystal123 · 07/05/2010 10:02

Can't reveal as you'll know where I live, but believe me it was not pleasant,(in fact I thought, what am I doing here! I should be in bed!) the only respite came when sitting in a room with some Green Party members, pleasant enough, but they did worse than UKIP. The council provided plenty of large TV screens, so we could all become more and more depressed as we watched the votes come in, and the night rolled on...

whifflegarden · 07/05/2010 10:03

I suspect Libs will align themselves with labour terrible for the economy. v worrying.

whifflegarden · 07/05/2010 10:04

Very pleased that UKIP and BNP did badly. Was laughable.

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:04

Oh, of course, sorry crystal. How depressing.

GB is chaining himself to number 10 as we speak.

booyhoo · 07/05/2010 10:05

well i dozed off at some point after 4, long enough to see that we werent going to get a majority but all in all i think those results say a hell of a lot about what role labour really have to play.

tories did good just not good enough this time for outright win. lets hope labour realise that they need to respond to the public and do the right thing.

shattered i am.

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:05

I know Whiffle. Even though Clegg swore that he wouldn't

booyhoo · 07/05/2010 10:07

yes, i was so glad to hear (or not hear) all the BNP results. what a relief the hype was just that.

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:07

Good effort booyhoo

sethstarkaddersmum · 07/05/2010 10:09

this is so weird and depressing.
Tories actually did very well in that they took loads of seats from Labour - it's fairly clear the country wants them not Labour in charge now.... but we are likely to end up with a Lib-Lab minority govt which is just about the worst thing that could happen for the country. aaargh.

crystal123 · 07/05/2010 10:09

CARTOOSE. I can tell you this, if GB doesn't chain himself to the railings, the electorate of this country will! If they don't they deserve more of the silly basxarx, a right arse who wasn't even elected by anyone but
shoe-horned into his postion by that war criminial Blair.

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:10

Even thinking about the BNP and NG's stupid face makes me . Yes, phew!

Lolly68 · 07/05/2010 10:11

Morning all

Looks like you all lasted a lot longer than me last night!

Cartoose - have you been asleep?

ronshar · 07/05/2010 10:11

I feel a bit sick.
I am so dissapointed that we may still end up with the shity labour party.

Are the people of this country so blinkered that they would rather wait while the labour party dither while trying to get rid of GB, whilst also waiting to see which way the libs jump.
The Scottish shouldn't be allowed to vote in our elections. They are only interested in Scotland, as it should be, as so fuck us over every time.

BeenBeta · 07/05/2010 10:14

I guess we should all now be turning our attention to what the deal will be in a hung Parliament.

What can I live with as a liberal (small 'l') Tory slightly to the right of Cameron?

Well I can certainly agree with a lot of Lib Dem policy. I think a lot of Tory voters could.

I think some electoral reform is necessary but not full proportional representation as that would just be very bad for the country.
A solution might be a set of separate Parliaments for each country in the union with an exclusively English Parliamant in Westminster votng on English issues and then a periodic UK Parliamant meeting to vote on truely UK issues. That would bring an extra element of local democracy and something closer to a proportional representation on local issues.

I think Lib Dem and Tory could agree to a referendum on Europe in 2 years time once the Greek issue is sorted out. Both Nick Clegg and Cameron and Clegg have indicated they may support a referendum.

On finances, the only major difference is on inheritace tax and the mansion tax. Both agree that the coutries finances and the banking system need sorting out.

Nuclear is the big issue that divides and am not sure what they can do to bridge that gap. Kick the Trident issue down the road beyond the next Parliament perhaps and put that to a referendum too?

On a personal level I think Clegg and Cameron have similar backgrounds and can get along but not sure he can take the left of his party with him without strong support from Vince Cable.

We shall see....

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:16

That was a

blondecat · 07/05/2010 10:16

Well at least we got Jacqui Smith and Clarke. But Ballsy survived .
I was right not to wait for his results would have cried myself to sleep.

I can see one silver lining - Lib-Labs form government and carry the can for the changes that will need to happen. Get roundly kicked at the next election even if it is PR.

And UKIP shame shame shame on the idiots - with those votes we could have gotten a few more.

booyhoo · 07/05/2010 10:18

ronshar i feel really disappointed to. it hit me at some point during the night that we weren't going to get it and my heart sank. it is really clear that people want the change. i think the cuts in tax creds is what is putting alot of people off but what they dont realise is thet the cuts are going to happen whoever gets in, it's just the tories are being upfront about it.

ronshar · 07/05/2010 10:18

Harriet Harman make my blood boil.

"No body has won it"
WTF is she talking about.

They amy not have a clear majority but as I see it the labour party have lost. They have come second.

Bloody labour party spin themselves into the ground eventually.

Beenbeta, I agree with everything you just said

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:19

Pah to the UKIP voters

BeenBeta · 07/05/2010 10:25

blondecat - interesting what you say about UKIP. How many seats do you think there are where the UKIP vote would have swung it to a Tory seat?

Just thinking what might happen if we have another General Election and UKIP voters go and vote Tory next time round.

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 10:26

"i think the cuts in tax creds is what is putting alot of people off but what they dont realise is thet the cuts are going to happen whoever gets in, it's just the tories are being upfront about it"

People have really been misled about this. The people that rely TC will still receive them under the Cons but the opposite has been peddled to death by Labour . Giving people the impression that the Cons want to cut tax creds all together.

Sorry, I know I'm preaching to the converted & it's too late now anyway.
