Do post your advance questions here.

SGM "Maybe we could all attach 500 word essays to our ballots explaining explicitly what we are voting for and what we don't like."

Only 500 words?

Rosie2010 · 03/05/2010 20:47

Labour have still got my vote. So hard when they've been in power to not just get bored with them but they r still offering me what I want - and what I want for my family.

waking up to 5 years of a Tory Government on may 7th just fills me with dread...
I remember what the 80s were like and it wasnt all leg warmers anmd wham!

Hunker and Brolly - So if the Tories get in I'm out of a job then

I'm the paid NHS Breastfeeding support for Bromsgrove and Droitwich. There is only me, and I only work 20 hours a week, but i like to think I make a small difference.

NotanOtter · 03/05/2010 20:48

So to précis tonight's webchat

GORDON ROCKS

MrJustAbout · 03/05/2010 20:48

Anything that's manifesto-level won't be announced new here. It's mumsnet fgs.

The best we can do is to reflect (in a not-selected-audience) sort of way what the electorate is feeling.

The BBC's made reference to us already.

mumutd · 03/05/2010 20:48

hunkermunkey. No, we are the first lot to be trained so it is all very new and exciting. The plan is to start up our own breastfeeding support group to meet once a week too. I am really looking forward to giving something back.

Highlander · 03/05/2010 20:48

It seems all the parties are moving to the right.

As a family, we're all right and will be allright under any government (DH is a doctor).

But who is the party that's standing up for the low to average earners? Which party truly understands them? Where are the council houses? Not every family is aspirational (in the educational sense). Most people just want a job, a nice warm house and to feel reassured that the NHS will be there for them when they're sick. They want to look forward to old age knowing the governemtn will provide a decent pension after the years of weorking hard for Great Britain plc.

TheCappster · 03/05/2010 20:48

Completely agree Rosie. I haven't forgotten that the Conservatives voted against extended maternity leave, against paternity leave, against the right to request flexible working hours...

vesela: it's worse the 97 labour manifesto promised a REFERENDUM on electoral reform.

that happened then

Jux · 03/05/2010 20:49

You're welcome meg. I have a long long list of questions like that and so does dh! They won't answer interesting here I think. If you watch the election stuff, listen to the radio, I reckon you'll know everything you get here before they start.

It's a good way to bring some pressing personal issues to the fore. I'm all in favour of that - Riven's situation springs to mind, and there are others.

MrJustAbout · 03/05/2010 20:49

Bleuch ... I'll try that again:

Anything that's manifesto-level (debt, trident, economy etc) won't be announced new here. It's mumsnet fgs.

The best we can do is to reflect (in a not-selected-audience sort of way) what the electorate is feeling.

The BBC's made reference to us already.

vesela · 03/05/2010 20:50

And good on Anastaisia for bringing up the illiberal home ed plans. It's a real pity that that hasn't had more attention in the campaign.

(This is why I thought the debates were a bit boring - they didn't get on to any civil liberties questions or anything like that, there was so much further they could have gone).

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/05/2010 20:51

NotAnOtter - in the nicest possible way, please don't presume to speak for all of us. Clearly for quite a lot of people here, Gordon does NOT rock.

Foureleven - of course . The economy is suddenly going to rocket into life from 0.2% growth in a quarter to 1% a quarter overnight and save the world country!

SwingVoter · 03/05/2010 20:51

ooo, he answered me... definitely a redder shade of purple now!!

JackiePaper · 03/05/2010 20:51

mumutd whereabout in the country are you. YOu sound like you are doing a great job

claig · 03/05/2010 20:52

the most deserving questions on here were from herbietea. She asked several times and he failed to answer.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/05/2010 20:52

why was he called 'Prime Minister'? he isn't at the moment.

did Mr Brown ask for an invite or did mn invite him? will the other leaders be coming on this week?

Beachcomber · 03/05/2010 20:52

Agree notanotter...

Gordon rocks!

And my mum has a crush on him is very charismatic IMO.

MrJustAbout · 03/05/2010 20:53

I wish I knew who I was voting for.

If it looked like Labour and the Lib Dems could work together, I'd vote for Ed Balls (as my local MP).

Without that, I'm likely to vote to declare my preferred party.

Some clarity from the parties would be helpful ...

mumutd · 03/05/2010 20:53

JackiePaper I'm in South Lincolnshire and thank you .

vesela · 03/05/2010 20:53

Rosie2010 - we don't have to wake up to either a Labour or Tory government if we don't want.

octothechildherder · 03/05/2010 20:54

With all due respect I dont think breastfeeding or nappies are top priority this week - as much as they are to us, as parents and voters, I think he may have more to think about.

MrJustAbout · 03/05/2010 20:56

OhYouBadBadKitten
I'm sure he is the still prime minister - the parliament's been dissolved but he doesn't cease to be prime minister (I thought) until he's unable to form the next government.

At that point, the queen calls for David Cameron as the head of the party with the greatest (or next greatest) number of seats.

If there was no prime minister and a national emergency, you'd find him in charge pdq.
