...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

Have you seen this?

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 10:57

It was my FIL's birthday yesterday evening. SIL was sat there saying 'I am voting UKIP, we need to keep us out of europe and I am sick of all the immigrants in this country, we can't get a dentist blah de blah'. Had had a glass of wine (red, natch ) so was a bit arsey, saying you can't say that about immigrants, what the bloody hell are you on about, let 'em all in, so SIL now thinks I am an agressive drunken leftie (good).

Am dragging DD to the polling station tonight. She moaned yesterday saying oh mum do I have to and I hissed between gritted teeth you.are.coming.with.me.when.I.vote.

Hope everyone has a good day. I like this thread - solidarity.

taffetatactical · 06/05/2010 11:35

Its sunny outside but gloomy in my heart

Took the DC to the polling station this am. DS (6), despite being told voting was private, shouted out: "Mummy's Labour ones are the best! Daddy's Sonserveters ( sic ) are rubbish!" Go DS! Except the polling station was empty.

LadycAshcroft · 06/05/2010 11:36

taffeta PMSL

Molesworth · 06/05/2010 11:38

ROAR @ "what the bloody hell are you on about, let 'em all in" AND "Daddy's Sonserveters ( sic ) are rubbish!" to an empty polling station

Oh I don't know what I'd do without you all today. Just ... thanks!

RedZora · 06/05/2010 11:41

I am wearing a red t shirt but my face looks like this no hope is there.

taffetatactical · 06/05/2010 11:44

redredapples - I thought the pic of DC on the front page of the Guradian was brilliant. He looked scheming, manipulative and really creepy. It was a mix of the smirk, the half open door and the glazed crazed look in his eye.

But, yes, they are still tossers.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 11:46

There IS hope

I have just been on another thread where Xenia (Xenia!) has come out for the tories and is quoting an article in the Times supporting them wholeheartdly. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

RedRedApples · 06/05/2010 11:51

tafeta...I was undoubtedly seeing it through a rather tribal filter and anything less than VOTE LABOUR DAMMIT would be too subtle for me to process right now.

They've not been the same since they dropped the Manchester from their title...bunch of Ramsay Macs.

Question: AIBU to hum "The Workers Flag" during a meeting?

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 11:52
RedZora · 06/05/2010 11:56

go for it !

LadycAshcroft · 06/05/2010 12:05

I join in the singing. Very sadly the only songs I know from my own childhood are workers' movement songs. I mean they are all right, but it would be nice to teach something else in my motyher tongue to DS.

Of course, since the birth of DS I learnt classics such as 'Jelly On a Plate'.

GetOrfMoiLand I think you might be my SIL. No, seriously. I think we have very similar FILs. Mine is very elderly, so I just sit, and do not say anything but try to keep a perfectly straight face. My BIL is dyed in the wool Labour, but we do not want to hurt them. We just secretly call him Mr Genghis Khan [snigger], as he really does not believe in workers' rights, H&S and especially the minimum wage, depsite having to work very hard all his life.

Apart from politics though, he is a sweetie and I could not be luckier with my ILs.

PinkFuschia · 06/05/2010 12:23

Little discussion topic for you all to wile away the hours before the results;

My boss is old-school Labour; I am LibDem, and we were having a heated argument discussion yesterday about the possible civil unrest that could come if when there are massive spending cuts after the election.

Do you think there are less likely to be riots if Labour, or a LibLab government get in, rather than the Tories, given that there is going to be a lot of pain for all of us when the government set about reducing the deficit?

Both Boss and I remember spending most of the Thatcher years on one anti-government demo or another, and I'm interested in your thoughts.

BTW I'm at work and will be disappearing in a few moments, but will check in later!

have voted-wish i could have had a few extra votes to make up for all the lazy buggers that probably won't bother

quite busy at work so it's keeping my mind off being
depressed

there's still hope isn't there?

monkeysmama · 06/05/2010 12:53

Getorf that made me laugh out loud. Almost enough to make me want to go back to work. Imagine during a serious meeting someone stood up and started "Arise ye starvlings(spg?)...." It'd be fantastic! Please one of you at work do it and report back.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 12:59

Ha! I think I might play a recording of the Internationale on my PC, hold up the phone and say to all the other conferencers 'ooh can you hear that?'

I am gettting more left wing by the hour. I daren't go to the staff canteen because I will seea copy of the Sun and yell (like I did yesterday re Simon C).

alysonpeaches · 06/05/2010 13:09

Deserted polling station here ... I also had a blonde moment when I got my ballot paper, forgot what to do!

Dont worry, I did the right thing!

omnimandles · 06/05/2010 13:14

getorf - am at the thought of you getting more left wing by the hour. Mind if I (fellow) travel along with you?

My sister reported polling booth confusion as well alyson - the libdem had the same surname as the UKIP - all very dicey...

RedRedApples · 06/05/2010 13:26

I'm not getting more left wing as we go along I don't think but I am definitely reducing my self censorship level....

We are staying on our own ProgThread tonight aren't we? I won't be able to cope with much crowing. I know Lenin was advising that we ignore interlopers earlier on the thread but I may not have that level of self control once the Grenache hits.

Molesworth · 06/05/2010 13:28

I'm in favour of a Depressed Lefties Election Night Thread, comrades.

Won't be able to take the gloating either

PositiveLabourVibes · 06/05/2010 13:30

Signing in...

Will definitely join you on a Lefties only thread later - no baying allowed!
