...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 08:35

Oh GOD this will be a long post - sorry everyone but I am surrounded by tories at work so can't rant talk to them.

  • I am wearing a red top today and people at work are taking the piss - sample comment 'here comes Red Ken'. I have decided therefore to do no work today (I am leaving here in 3 weeks anyway so haven't actually got much to do, have been taken off anything important).
  • Simon Cowell on the front page of the Sun yesterday. I just felt like screaming when I saw that. So multimillionaire record label boss thinks the tories are a good bet NO SHIT SHERLOCK
  • I drove past Cheltenham College last night and saw all the privileged young lovelies sunning themselves on the criket pitch. Then about 3 miles away drove through Hester's Way (Cheltenham's worst estate) and saw kids of the same age just hanging round drinking cider and looking off their tits on mephadrone. Just seeing such disparity in wealth and prospects cheek by jowl made me sad. If DC gets in those poor kids are even more fucked than they are now, whilst the rich kids will be protected.
  • My whole adult life (near enough) has been under labour. I was probably complacent and didn't get involved politics. Whatever happens, I am joining the labour party today. If DC gets in (like posters have said on this thread) I am going to bloody well contribute some of my time to try and do something.
  • I cannot imagine this ever changing, but I hate the fact that due to the political preferences of Rupert Murdoch and Lord Rothermere, this whole campaign has been so ferociously partisan.

Rant over. I am going to go and have a cup of tea.

LadycAshcroft · 06/05/2010 08:39

GetOrfMoiLand I'll have a cuppa. It is very noble of you offering your time.

Beachcomber · 06/05/2010 08:42

Molesworth if you're about today will you post your link about child poverty on Xenia's best party propaganda thread please?

EweStupidToryVoters · 06/05/2010 09:08

Voted. Despite being in a stupid safe seat where it doesn't really matter.

I too shall be joining the Labour Party today.

Will add a chocolate biscuit, Getorfmoiland.

You know the funny thing, I'd always had you down as nice-but-Tory before this thread - I think on the basis of your name.

RedRedApples · 06/05/2010 09:17

Voted. I have no red to wear...(really doesnt look good on me) I am however all dressed up and may get round to doing make up even if I can find some. Anyway I feel as prepared as good clothes and nice knickers can make me...I am sure you look marvelous in your red top getorfmoiland.

I bought the Mirror this morning rather than the fucking Ramsay Mac cheese eating surrender monkey DC on front page please dont bother voting Labour today Guardian. Tossers.

LadycAshcroft · 06/05/2010 09:21

I was wearing my blue coat , but all my coats are blue and it is raining .

If there is a miracle today and Labour gets a better than expected result, I'll get a step outside posh boy T-shirt.

What really is worrying me is the Tories doing a Florida, and starting leagl actions to get into power. They do not think that would frighten their City mates and the markets?

I forgot to say I am gingercat BTW.

RedRedApples · 06/05/2010 09:30

Sucks teeth at Blue coat...I saw a Lady this morning (and she was definitly a lady not a woman) in a gorgeous sweeping wrap style cardi ....in the purest Tory blue I've ever seen. I'm afraid to say my reaction was quite viceral. And I like blue as a colour you know some of my best clothes are blue.

Still LadyA you are warm and dry and that's what matters. I'm wearing purple...maybe I should go buy a red scarf? But then think of the subliminal message: Vote Labour our supporters can't co-ordinate for shit?

kerstina · 06/05/2010 09:32

Fantastic post getorfmyland ! Red just does not suit me but am wearing the one and only red top that i have!
I too am going to join the Labour party so that the next election i will be better placed to help them.

Bucharest · 06/05/2010 09:44

Morning. Italian tv keeps telling me it's a done deal and talking about Sarah's shoes costing more than Sam's. FFS.

No red here either, but have just ranted in Supermarket to nice-but-dim friend who didn't understand why my FB pic is the red rose. "Because today is the most important day of my child's life" I say, throttling her gently over the artichokes.

Now I need to go and berate people on FB. I'm finding some people's attitudes verrrrrry odd. I look at their profile pics, and think yup, I know you, I've known you for a long time...yu don't smell like a Tory......or even worse, an apathetic-couldn't-care-less-who-gets-in-I'll-moan-anyway.

I think I might go to bed very early, so I can get up about 4am UK time just to see the funeral.

omnimandles · 06/05/2010 09:48

I am wearing a rather lovely dress that has both red and yellow flowers on it. It was more luck than judgement though.

I had to go out yesterday and spend an hour weeding the front garden lest any floating voters driving by thought my garden with its big non-Tory sign up looked unkempt and thats what you'd expect from a leftie.

[realises am overthinking]

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/05/2010 10:00

Lol at nice-but-tory!!

I know my name makes me sound like Clarissa Dickson-Wright, but I chose it because I am a carrot cruncher from Devon. i tried to change it last week but people said awww change it back to GetOrf. So am stuck with this blardy stupid name!

If I had some I would wear red lipstick as well but am afraid would look like an 80s throwback.

Molesworth · 06/05/2010 10:09

"But then think of the subliminal message: Vote Labour our supporters can't co-ordinate for shit?"

ROFL! Thanks for making me laugh apples

I feel for you GetOrf. Also admire your restraint: must be damn tempting to get the flamethrower out

monkeysmama · 06/05/2010 10:11

I've voted. I was shaking in the voting booth dithering about. I've done the right thing. Off to Barking now - hope it'll make my heart feel less heavy.

ZephirineDrouhin · 06/05/2010 10:11

It's a great name GetOrf. Fantastic post too. I felt a bit tearful on the way to the polling station - think it's the sense of both the enormity and futility of it. This election really has felt like civil war.

Molesworth · 06/05/2010 10:13

Go Monkeymama! Good luck in Barking

LadycAshcroft · 06/05/2010 10:16

RedRedApple LOL

Monekymam You are a hero!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/05/2010 10:21

oops..I am about to vote Labour but am wearing a blue dress with a yellow top underneath

animula · 06/05/2010 10:24

Monkeysmama - have a great day.

elkiedee · 06/05/2010 10:27

I have a blue tshirt and blue/black skirt on but I don't own much that's red. Perhaps I should have worn all black/grey, but I can do that tomorrow.

elkiedee · 06/05/2010 10:28

monkeysmama, hope your day in Barking goes well/

theQuibbler · 06/05/2010 10:30

I'm just sad and a bit tearful. Voting this am made me maudlin. It does matter if Labour loses, and my pragmatic head says that is the likely result.

I don't want Cameron and his band of merry smugs in charge.

I don't know what the upside is - if they get in, they are inheriting a somewhat poisoned chalice?

A hung parliament has never seemed such an enticing prospect

KeeptheRedFennelFlying · 06/05/2010 10:30

I'm wearing my purple, green and white top in a nod to the suffragettes. Thougth about the bright red cardi but actually voted libdem against the grain and so I wasn't sure it was honest to wear the red, even though it was my preference. and I wouldn't ever wear yellow, for political and skin tone reasons.

oh the problems of voting tactically...

elkiedee · 06/05/2010 10:32

The local newspaper where I work has a cultural/review section which contains an interview with someone who's written about George Orwell this morning - suggesting that George Orwell might vote UKIP ???? WTF. He also tries to suggest that somehow this might be a left wing option. I'm not buying that guy's book but I will have to find a copy to read from the library or in a bookshop to try and find out where he gets that from.
