...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

CanNeverDecide - Cheers luv. I so wanted a laugh - and here you are.

In the interests of fair play - if I thought Griggsy was a Conservative agent in deep cover, perhaps you are a Leftie in similar double agent role - reminding us and inspiring us to put the manic in depressive, as Apple suggested earlier - and get out there and active.

at laughable baa baa banalities.

Tell Ed Balls about the "withdraw labour candidates from con-lib marginals" idea, MrJustAbout

KEEP DAVE OUT!!!!!

taffetacat · 04/05/2010 20:59

Canneverdecide - I think you put it very clearly - you aren't taking it as seriously as the rest of us. That'd be because us Lefties do take it seriously because we care about people other than ourselves. Its serious stuff.

Having said that, am loving the Toryspotting link Pfft

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 04/05/2010 21:01

One thing that did make me chortle yesterday was a FB group:

"David Cameron wants change. Give him 30p and tell him to fuck off!"

AppleTreeWick · 04/05/2010 21:02

what? Ed Balls is calling personally? cooo. hutches up to hear more...

Ewe · 04/05/2010 21:05

I am getting progressively more pissed off with the lack of coverage of the Philippa Stroud story, how can this not be bigger news?

I am down in Wapping tomorrow, perhaps I should try and sneak an article in somewhere

Ewe · 04/05/2010 21:09

I am not a huge fan of Ed Balls but after seeing this video of him made by Tory Bear and right wing pals link I feel more and more sympathy for the man.

theyoungvisiter · 04/05/2010 21:10

I'm signing in although I'm not depressed just yet - I have my head too firmly in the sand.

I am, though, preparing for deep, deep depression on May 7th. Gaaaaaah.

Still clutching at straws trying to believe it's all a deeply cunning plot by labour to leapfrog lightly over the next 4 years of hell and then grasp the reins smartly back from the tories' nerveless hands in 2014.

MarionCole · 04/05/2010 21:11

Am not allowing myself to get depressed yet. I am still confident of a 1992 moment.

MissM · 04/05/2010 21:15

'Or do you want them to be learning English as a second language at school in a class of 50 whilst watching the teacher being sworn at and a group of hoodies with knives walking down the road, all the time calling Christmas lights, holiday lights and singing baa baa woolly sheep instead of baa baa black sheep, and seeing more people laying about doing nothing because they can, because it's so easy to claim benefits from this government whilst sitting on your ass and laughing at them?'

Haaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaa haaaa haaaaaaaa!

Ahem. [wipes away tears of mirth]

But yes, I detest the idea of all the smug Tories who will be feeling that wonderful feeling of elation and that a brave new dawn was a-dawning that I felt in 1997. Bastards.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 04/05/2010 21:20

Oh dear, Canneverdecide. You do know that the whole 'baa baa white sheep' (insert ovine adjective of choice) 'story' was invented by the conservative red tops, don't you? Bless.

Signing in here, already despondent. DH and I were thinking of voting Lib Dem strategically, and I could still be convinced, but looking at the stats, this is the very safest of safe Tory seats. This is where Michael Heseltine used to preside, ffs. The nob.

Have got my black clothes ready for friday!

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 04/05/2010 21:20

Marion, presumably you mean a 1997 moment? In 1992 I was at a victory party in a working men's club in Coventry crying into my beer whilst clutching a photocopy of The Red Flag we'd all been given because we were so convinced we'd win and we'd be singing. This is going to be much, much worse than that (sob).
PolicyWonk - I'd drive people to polling stations, if only I could drive properly. Having me as chauffeur would probably reduce the turnout.

WilfSell · 04/05/2010 21:23

MSE no I think she means what I'm calling a Kinnock, but for Cameron: you know snatching defeat from the jaws of victory etc. But this time they get to be smug followed by the fall of pride...

Am I a complete twat to have read the Gordon Brown webchat and cried? There were so many posts of heartfelt support o n that thread (notanotter and Bucharest stood out for me) and I am just gutted that it is a real possibility that Labour won't get in on Thursday.

This has been a godawful spiteful, media managed campaign from start to finish. If I was Gordon Brown I woul have felt like crying (good job I am not PM then!).

GOOD LUCK GORDON.

I am keeping everything crossed. God those fuckers can't beat us can they?

MarionCole · 04/05/2010 21:25

Sorry, I meant an inverse 1992 moment. I want the Tories to be sobbing into their Advocaat.

TDiddy · 04/05/2010 21:27

staranise - you don't have to be a party member for them to accept your offer to canvass; they are usually desperate. Been out a few times with nearby MP (I live in a safe Tory seat) but I have been very busy lately (still at work now). But I will take tomorrow aftrenoon off and hit the road.... my 10 year says that I am closet Tory and says he cant trust me to vote LibDem (want NC to win after watching debates). My 7 year old wants to come with me as she says "DC wants to give all the risch people more money". Don't know where she is getting this stuff from...I guess I have been indoctrinating them subtly in order to undo the effects of their private school education

expatinscotland · 04/05/2010 21:30

Signing in.

DH has Friday off till 6PM.

I'm going to pinch a few fags off the neighbour, in case I feel just too sad and need a smoke.

theyoungvisiter · 04/05/2010 21:32

expat - or you could shove them in your ears to block out the joyous crowing sound of victorious tories.

SpringHeeledJack · 04/05/2010 21:32

fuuuuuck.

At the moment I'm home edding my dcs (I thought) temporarily. I'm not anti school, it's just that there are lots of things about education under NuLab that have seriously pissed me off- academies, box ticking, SATs, league tables etc etc. However (after a glance at Gove's webchat ) I am now vividly remembering what education was like under the Tories last time, and to paraphrase- Things Can Only Get Worse...

and my kids look like they're in for the long haul at home!

AppleTreeWick · 04/05/2010 21:33

Hey Reshapewhilstdamp pssst Michael Heseltine is/was not a nob..the man bought his own furniture don'cha know...he is/was possibly a knob though..

shit have I just insulted a dead man? sorry sorry as you were.

plus3 · 04/05/2010 21:34

I will sign in, but remain everhopeful!

I will walk into my polling office in deepest, darkest toryland and proudly vote Labour and know that I haven't betrayed what I believe in.

theyoungvisiter · 04/05/2010 21:34

Dh just watched Gordon's Citizen's UK speech on youtube and is now slightly wavering from his vow to vote Lib Dem.

Turning them one vote at a time...

Molesworth · 04/05/2010 21:35

Tarzan dead, ATW?

I missed that announcement!

SpringHeeledJack · 04/05/2010 21:36

oh, and canneverdecide- if you had been near a school in the past decade you would be aware that Baa Baa Black Sheep is sung in the Foundation Stage ad nauseam and by the request of 3-5 year olds. Murdoch musst be rubbing his hands with glee on that one.Five minutes to write a bald face lie and it's still being regurgitated as fact by the ill informed 20? 25? years later
