...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

Takver, I'd vote Labour in your shoes I think.

8rubberduckies · 03/05/2010 20:50

ilovemydogandmrobama Great test, especially with the cider tax being a bigger issue than any other political happening in the last year in the eyes of my DP.

I overheard two Labour campaigners at Redland Fair today discussing how "we are exactly the same as Lib Dems around here- we want the same things".

TDiddy · 03/05/2010 21:02

I b=visited someone on Saturday and they started talking to me like I was on the "inside"; a Tory that is. I was too embarrassed to say anything other than "this is an exciting one isn't it? Nice open election?" I went home and felt guilty.

TheFirstLady · 03/05/2010 21:22

If only I could be sure our sitting LibDem MP would beat the vile buffoon who is standing for the Tories without the benefit of my vote I would vote Communist this time. But I dare not.

policywonk · 03/05/2010 21:34

I came face to face with a Tory leafletter today while I was out on my LibDem rounds. We grinned at each other. She said 'Don't give that cat one, he's a Tory cat' and I said 'Most cats I know are anarchists'.

TheFirstLady · 03/05/2010 21:41

A cat would never toe a party line. Claw one maybe. Dogs now are a different matter. All dogs are Tories.

TDiddy · 03/05/2010 21:42

TheFirstLady

taffetacat · 03/05/2010 21:48

Much hilarity here at cats and dogs politics

Wolfcub · 03/05/2010 21:49

signing in and praying for a miracle on Thursday. The thought of a tory government literally makes me feel sick.

auberginesrus · 03/05/2010 22:09

Do have room for a worried woolly left of centre liberal? pinkfushia has said it much more eloquently than I ever could, but I cannot bear the thought of the Tories getting in, and would be equally dismayed at a LibDem/Tory coalition.

BTW my cat was most definitely a Tory (of the fat cat variety)

Snobear4000 · 03/05/2010 22:19

Signed in.

All those "motorists" will be so smug.

TDiddy · 03/05/2010 22:30

Reasons to be cheerful:

i)Possible that PR could put Tories out of power for a long time. Rise of the Lib Dems.

ii)Tories have accepted some of the centrist themes such as "society", NHS errr...

iii)NC is more charismatic than DC so DC will not have his own way for long

policywonk · 03/05/2010 22:32

aub, I always thought you were a Tory! (In a nice way )

choosyfloosy · 04/05/2010 08:59

This thread is starting to be a bit like reading the Guardian. Let's be realistic here [makes 'sincere but firm' chopping wood trustable-style hand gesture] I am absolutely certain the Tories are going to be in by 30 - 35 seats, and if you lived in Oxfordshire you'd be certain too. See you back here in - farking nora - THREE DAYS and I bet I'm right.

allegrageller · 04/05/2010 09:03

choosy- noooooooooo

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/05/2010 09:18

The only positive I can think of is that it won't be long before the shine wears off and a lot of people who voted the Tories in will realise what they are really about.

Coolfonz · 04/05/2010 09:24

I reckon Tory overall majority of 11-25, I'm going for 17.

goes off to Ladbrokes

cinnamontoast · 04/05/2010 09:25

Signing in, and definitely depressed. Pfft, I hope you're right, but look what happened in 1979 - 18 years! I just don't understand this country's love affair with the Tories.

ZephirineDrouhin · 04/05/2010 09:32

Here is a marvellous bit of writing to cheer you all up a little.

cinnamontoast · 04/05/2010 09:38

Zephirine, thanks for that. I positively got a lump in my throat reading it. Shows how bad things are that a bit of common sense is making me emotional.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/05/2010 09:40

Last election in my constituency:

Cuntservative: 51%
Labour:30%
Lib Dem:15%

Now, we have a standing down shamed Tory MP. We have been Tory here forever.

Anyone fancy pondering the following:

Will a shamed (expenses) MP cause any Tory voters to switch alliance, or will they not care as the expenses scandal was wide ranging?

If they do switch vote, are they more likely to go Labour or Lib Dem (I don't want to even think about UKIP - 4%)?

As a Green voter with no candidate, who would you vote for, given that you are not a Labour voter and never have been BUT you would like to contribute to keeping the twats out at all costs?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/05/2010 09:41

cinnamon, you are probably right. I don't understand it either, TBH I think it is selfishness.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/05/2010 09:42

I've never met a Tory that didn't dislike poor people.

Coolfonz · 04/05/2010 09:43

They've been bad since Nye Bevan.

seeker · 04/05/2010 09:48

I remember waking my 2 year old up so that she could watch, bemused, as Labour won. I remember earnestly explaining to her how significant a moment it was........

Any of than hemlock left?
