We had heating, but one of my housemates was so tight she never let up have it on!
I still think of her when I notch the heating up another level now.

blametheparents · 29/04/2010 22:06

Hall looks so fab lit up, very swish!

nigglewiggle · 29/04/2010 22:06

Selly Sausage was an ex-student run cafe just down from the OVT, opposite The Brook. It had paintings of John Lennon and Bob Marley on the walls. They did a fab veggie breakfast. I didn't think it was posh. In fact we went back there about 4 years ago when I went back for a friends wedding and it definitely wasn't posh. But, I'm more high maintenance now .

We didn't have heating in Dawlish. DH still talks about the ice on the inside of the windows!

blametheparents · 29/04/2010 22:10

God yes, ice on the inside of the windows!
So cold at times.
Used to visit my BF (now DH) at Warwich University and his place was always like a sauna. Soooo nice.

nigglewiggle · 29/04/2010 22:13

Warwick University - now that's posh!

Horton · 29/04/2010 22:13

Most of the houses I lived in had proper heating apart from the Bournbrook Road one which only had those crappy electric fires that cost a fortune and were only warm when they were actually on. I fell asleep one morning, having just switched the fire on, listening to the progress of the Gulf War on the radio or something and accidentally melted my tape player.

The old campus looks pretty good and is making me feel very nostalgic, as is all the talk of the Muirhead Tower, Selly Sausage and the OVT. I was there 92-96 (Wyd 92-93 and Exeter Rd Selly Oak 93-96) seems like a lifetime ago... oh yeah - it was!!

Wheelybug · 29/04/2010 22:25

No not 5 Bournbrook rd - a bit further up.

We used to dine at the Shapla. We thought we woz posh cos they had an alcohol license and you got a free carnation after the meal .

I was at Birmingham University in 1982.

Well, strictly speaking I had a student room allocated and lectures and everythng but I just never turned up.

I eventually rang them up about a month into the first term and they apologised profusely that they hadn't noticed I was missing.

MrsMiamla · 30/04/2010 08:24

tvfriend hubert road? yup!!! think we were number 30 something!

selly sausage was great! we used to pop in wearing our evening gowns after the various balls we had!

oh and the balti houses!!! can't remember the name of my favourite though

MrsMiamla · 30/04/2010 11:11

actually, i lied, just realised we were in Gleave Road and it was my old flatmate from Griffin who went to Hubert road!

mummytime · 30/04/2010 11:36

I was there 83-86
Lived 3 years in Griffin. No Eating disorder.
I remember the bus strike when everyone had to walk into Uni.
Also in last year had an off peak bus pass so had to walk in early on Wednesday for my only 9am.

I quite liked the lighting last night. Despite exams, I spent the time remembering the Christmas Carol services in the Great Hall.
