Does anyone want to persuade me?

Haha BO, Iris was my MP. We've been told that she is in a psych Hospital. She was photographed shopping in London . One of the papers has a photo of her walking down a street with a young man passing her. The caption was "Iris manages to contain herself" [snort]

BariatricObama · 06/04/2010 20:06

SuSylvester · 06/04/2010 20:22

OK vote for policies is rubbish, I said I supported membership of Europe and immigration and it told me to vote UKIP .

SuSylvester · 06/04/2010 20:29

god i need to be a commissioning editor

ideas for election coverage so far

  1. peopel and baords = why do someo peopel put up boards. what boards did they haev and then regret etc what is the oLDest board
  1. surveys to find out who to vote for - how biased are they.
  1. women who are aware that peopel DIED for voted but feel ashamed they think its all a rather silly boys game that Got Out Of Hand when they abolshed Rotten Boroughs.

Oh I wouldn't have a doubt on who to vote in the UK... you lucky, lucky things...

nappyzoneloveslindor · 06/04/2010 22:08

I have no idea who to vote either - iwork for surestart so if any are thinking of scrapping it all i guess it wont be them as wed be fooked. Im going to have to read them thingys id non understand arent i?

anastaisia · 07/04/2010 09:59

As far as I know, no party is going to scrap sure start.

The Tory's said they would ringfence funds - that if they needed to they would cut the budget by 20% to go towards better HV services - approx £200 Mill. Which TBH, and I am not a Tory voter, sounds quite reasonable so long as they protect services for the target groups. There would be nothing to stop centres partially funding themselves by offering cheap but paid for courses - or hiring out rooms (some round here already do) or applying for funding through other area of government/LA funding.

anastaisia · 07/04/2010 10:00

sorry - tory's said they wouldn't ringfencce funds.

SuSylvester · 07/04/2010 10:01

i dont give a toss abotu sure start tbh

I think everyone has, realistically, to vote according to their own personal circumstances.

So I, like SS, don't really care about surestart, tax credits, child tax funds, subsidised nursery places etc etc as my dcs were born to early to qualify for any of that stuff and we somehow muddled through without any of that sort of help.

At the ancient age of 47 and with a 15 yr old ds, I'm much more concerned about university places being available to people who've worked hard and got the requisite A levels at A*.

Am also interested in IHT levels and think they should be raised. £650k is really bugger all for anyone living in the SE with twenty or so years work/savings behind them.

So I think that although we should all in theory hold hands under the rainbow and sing together, the reality is that each person will vote in the party who promises to meet that person's needs on the day, whether that's help for young families, a cut down on immigration, banning the burka or whatever happens to float their boat.

JollyPirate · 07/04/2010 10:35

I do care about surestart because I have seen excellent work done by the children's centres.

The "who shoukd you vote for thinbgie" tells me to vote Labour but I am not sure still.

SuSylvester · 07/04/2010 10:36

Im bothered by
education
criminal justice
tbh tax Schmax as they just lie, confuse you or get it some other way

JollyPirate · 07/04/2010 10:36

All I really DO know is that by 6th May I am going to be utterly sick of the election.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 07/04/2010 10:38

I would be realy struggling if I lived anywhere else. But we have a fab independent bloke who has been our Mp for about 3 parliaments. He works damn hard, is approachable - gave my Dh a lot of help last year over a business/banks problem AND had one of the lowest expenses claims in the House when the others were falling over each others trotters to get their shouts in. So he has my vote.

SuSylvester · 07/04/2010 10:39

well loclaly here the conservs have parachuted in a new character.
not at all local. had tried to get into countless other gaffs

we are a ticket to ride

Our cons guy is just the same. Surely yours is a shoo-in in your neck of the woods?

wastwinsetandpearls · 07/04/2010 12:54

I don't think we should be voting for self interest at all, unless you are in real poverty.

We need to vote for the people who will make this country a better place to live for everyone, but probably those who are least able to help themselves.

My life isn't fantastic, dp has no pension, I suffer from a life long illness that costs me a fortune and we can't afford to buy a house. But we will always be alright and therefore I think it would be unfair for me to vote out of self unterest.

Having spent the night researching I think that the best vote down here would be a lib dem one.

MayorNaze · 07/04/2010 12:57

AHA

The MayorNaze political choice theory...oh dammit that just makes my screen jump about

wastwinsetandpearls · 07/04/2010 13:01

Dp is taking a corruption root, he is refusing to vote tory because our tory MP was one of the ones voted least value. Claims a lot and seems to do very little. The only other choice here is lib dem so he will vote the same as me.
