What do with think will be in Labour’s budget?

They don’t seem to be giving much away but any indication that they might help kickstart the economy or are we just going to get £2 bus fares, £45 off our elec bill a year and petrol prices on google map? None of Labour polices seem to help anyone that is really struggling but isn’t in receipt of UC! I’m speaking as a single mother who is trying to sell a property to move on with my life but can’t. Yes I know I’ve very fortunate to have bricks and mortar but that doesn’t mean I’m loaded (because the property isn’t worth much)! I feel like everyone is expecting the chancellor pull a rabbit out of a hat but I think we’ll all be very disappointed/pissed off!

Everyone wanting lower tax, what public service would you like to see slashed?

Cut MPs salaries for a start.

Take illegal male migrants (channel crossers) out of HMOs/Hotels/Holiday Parks and put them in army barracks surrounded by razor wire. Sandwiches delivered twice a day. Twice a week take them out on a chain gang to sweep the streets/pick up litter/clean public lavvies. Take their mobiles off them and no benefits. They won't need money because they get fed (in a fashion).
That should save us about 4£billion a year and stop them sexually assaulting our women and girls
Deport them as soon as possible.
If their home country won't take them stop all foreign aid, visas and put tariffs on their exports.
Tell the UNHCR to go take a hike and see how the channel crossings slow to a trickle.

What we need is some "tough love".

I don't know. Usually there are huge leaks about it and it is talked about in the press.... and on here lots too. I have not seen that this time.

That's because they haven't got a clue in hell what to do, because they have run out of mugs people to tax.
They could all do their bit and take a pay cut for a start.

It hasn’t happened this time. There’s a level of party discipline now that hasn’t existed since Blair’s time. Hopefully it’s a return to the days when Budget statements were closely guarded until the Chancellor stood up in the Commons.

Discipline my hat.
If that was true how is it no PM can control the rampant lefty back benchers.?
The tail is still wagging the dog.

It hasn’t been tested since Burnham took over has it? As for the tail wagging the dog, backbenchers are the dog, they’re there to represent the interests of their constituents. It’s a little thing called representative democracy.

Not only do I consider your answer to be immoral, it would also be illegal.

Doesn't seem like a particularly workable solution. Got any other ideas?

That's why they stopped Starmer cutting benefits, because most of their electorate is made up of work-shy scroungers and people on benefits and they won't upset their voting base will they?
And they can't be there to represent the interests of their constituents if they can't help them back into gainful employment.
Labour-held seats account for 29 out of the 30 highest welfare-spending constituencies across major benefits (Universal Credit, PIP, Housing Benefit, and Employment and Support Allowance), with Birmingham Perry Barr (held by independent MP Ayoub Khan) being the single non-Labour exception in top-five housing benefit/overall breakdowns.
4 out of 10 were in Wales.

No, and I doubt you have either.
If the men are locked up they can't rape our women and girls can they ?

My bloke’s a higher rate tax payer. He recently had surgery that would have wiped us out financially if we’d had to pay for it. The NHS is fabulous value for us.

I am assuming that you are not one of those people who thinks the NHS is free or that the government pays for it. So who do you think paid for your 'bloke's expensive operation if it isn't people who pay a lot of tax?

Taxpayers. Like him. And me. However you said higher rate tax payers don’t get value from it. He got about ten people’s share of value from it. So thank you for your contribution.

tenpairsofshoes · 13/10/2026 21:21

@XenoBitchI feel like Burnham’s PR team are letting him speak about various different issues and gauging the public’s reaction! Though I think his new help to buy scheme is utter bollocks! It’s more to keep the developer’s happy and for Labour to tick off their ‘we’re building houses’ manifesto whilst the rest of housing market tanks! Again, another self serving decision that won’t benefit first time buyers!

Again it's not feasible to lock up all men.

And suggesting we do so is as ridiculous as suggesting locking up all asylum seekers, or suggesting they are all rapists

No, I don't have ideas as to where public spending should be cut because I don't think public spending should be cut.

In fact I'm incredibly concerned about the long term effects of austerity in the care, health and education sectors.

It looks like there’s another hole for Labour, £35bn -IFS

So they’ll have to do something.

Exactly, you pay tax towards your health care, a bit like people pay health insurance. However, a lot of people are not paying much tax at all and that is why the NHS is great value for them. To other people it is incredibly expensive for what they get.

It isn't as if the only options are the NHS or paying for everything as and when you need it. The NHS doesn't rank highly compared to healthcare systems in equivalent European countries.

Tax tax and more tax… benefits and welfare for their clients (ahem voters)

I'll spell it out to you.
Labour used to be the party of the working man (or woman). Now it is the party of the work-shy.
Sorry if facts upset you.

@Perfect28 Not only do I consider your answer to be immoral, it would also be illegal.
Internment isn't illegal if a country is fighting a war.
In case you hadn't noticed there is an invasion of undocumented young men along the South Coast, we had 459 last week.
These men are a danger to women and girls, hence the government having a leaflet printed to tell them not to rape/sexually assault them..
You'll also have notice that the government have refused to release data concerning foreign migrants and crime despite a FOI request.

If you thought shoulder day at the gym five times a week was bad, buckle up, your shoulders are going to need to get a whole lot wider! The Treasury is gearing up to raid your salary sacrifice, squeeze your tax-free pension limits, and drag your unspent pots directly into the inheritance tax net, all while keeping income tax thresholds frozen to let inflation drag every spare penny into HMRC's hands.

Keep lifting, PAYE piggies: the welfare state is not going to fund itself!

Ironic, given that Labour has incurred an additional £36bn in welfare spending versus last year’s budget.

@RedTagAlani do think there should be a benefits system. But I don’t think it is right that so many of us work really hard and get very little, whilst others abuse the system. There is no reason to have five kids and two adults in the house and neither of them work.

i voted Labour as they did a really great sales pitch that they would actually help working people and by that I thought they would generate growth, to help strengthen the economy. My family is made up of people who run small businesses and again they are struggling more and more every day because of Labour’s policies. So essentially what we now seem to have is a situation where you’re better off if you don’t put anything into the economy! It will create a whole generation of people who will think ‘why bother’! Because genuinely, that’s how I and many others feel right now!

UC won’t allow a situation where neither parent works unless they are carers to disabled children.

Either both have to work and meet a set income threshold or one has to work and meet that threshold alone.

@VeganConvertwell they do! One of them receives PIP for mental health issues!

If they receive PIP for MH it must be severe as PIP is not easy to get , you have to provide copious amounts of evidence and be assessed.
