What do with think will be in Labour’s budget?

They don’t seem to be giving much away but any indication that they might help kickstart the economy or are we just going to get £2 bus fares, £45 off our elec bill a year and petrol prices on google map? None of Labour polices seem to help anyone that is really struggling but isn’t in receipt of UC! I’m speaking as a single mother who is trying to sell a property to move on with my life but can’t. Yes I know I’ve very fortunate to have bricks and mortar but that doesn’t mean I’m loaded (because the property isn’t worth much)! I feel like everyone is expecting the chancellor pull a rabbit out of a hat but I think we’ll all be very disappointed/pissed off!

So people on benefits is not your one and only issue then ? It is also small business policy. And you are looking at it more from a social engineering point of view?

Quote "There is no reason to have five kids and two adults in the house and neither of them work."

There are plenty of scenarios where this could happen though. Disability being an obvious one. But more your point here, what is the connection to this hypothetical family and your business? That is, if the family lost their benefits, how would that make an economic impact on your business?

What country with what economic system do you think your business would do best in ? What is their economic model ?

Times the number of the family by a few hundred thousands and growing because statistically kids who see their parents trapped by benefit lifestyle follow the same lifestyle and have kids early themselves.

How does it affect small businesses and Middle class earners? Our tax keeps going up and up. I'm by no means rich but I am thinking about emigrating to a country like Singapore that has very low tax, high productivity and yes a welfare system that does work. If you've ever been to Singapore they even encourage the elderlies to work. You see 70+ sweeping the airport, it's not just to get the money but it's good for their mental health to be productive. Also the society there has respect for their elderlies.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 13/10/2026 09:47

More taxes. It's always more taxes with Labour.

If you’re too disabled to work you shouldn’t be having kids. Can completely understand if you become disabled after having kids. But people ‘too disabled to work’ who pop them out every couple of years? They’re yanking the lead. Come on now.

So you think Government should be taking charge of peoples procreation ?

Like China did with their one child rule etc ?

I am sure the budget covers policy such as this.

tenpairsofshoes · 13/10/2026 09:53

@RedTagAlanirs not a hypothetical family. It’s a real scenario. Why are you so protective of people that won’t work and choose to live off the state? Genuine question.

i am not an economist. I don’t have the answers to to your questions! I work very hard, pay in to the system and my mental health suffers enormously to make sure I can look after my family. I would like a government to really inspire all ages and people to be proactive, to work and to say if you put in we will help and support you! At the moment I don’t see that from this government! A £2 bus fare doesn’t help most working people!

@RedTagAlanwhere is the incentive for a family with five kids to work! They don’t have any. They afford takeaways every night and to get their house done up! You can scoff at me all you like but this is the reality of many people that abuse the system. And then us hardworking folk are told these situations are ‘hypothetical’ and gaslit to believe they aren’t real! I know many hard working people that need benefits to prop up their income. But this family is just lazy and abuses a system with no incentive to work or do better!

That's the sort of silly post I read regularly from someone who has never run a business.
Try starting a business and come back here and tell me your magic formula to make money out of nothing !

Well what is your magic solution then? It does not change the fact that so many people who are working, are having to claim benefits to be able to live. When people are bashing people on benefits, they seem to want to overlook how much UC top ups are costing the country, instead always focusing on disabled people, and pensioners, for some bizarre reason.

Oh, and 2 quid bus fares certainly do help working people. It makes it a lot cheaper for them to get to work. Add it up over a week. That money they save on bus fares could be spent buying whatever your company sells.

Another attempt to fleece hard workers and redistribute it to the benefit brigade . They need to stop taking from people and get businesses growing through incentives and tax reductions.

This.
Tax squeeze till the pips squeak for the dwindling numbers of honest people actually still working and running businesses / to give to the increasing number of people ‘entitled’ to handouts to b spend at nailbars employing illegals.

tenpairsofshoes · 13/10/2026 10:04

@RedTagAlani didn’t say that it would help small business. But all these hikes on NI etc for small business go to fund the lazy fecks with five kids that don’t want to work whilst small businesses and the individuals that run them suffer! It’s not that hard to work out! The welfare bill is insane, it’s talked about every other day! Why can’t they work?

OP posts:

@RedTagAlanoh yes, the £2 bus fares really help those on benefits and not working spend the money that isn’t theirs in small business!!! 😂😂 forgot those who are abusing the benefits system are propping up small business

I suspect CGT rates will be brought in line with income tax, which is fine with me if they also bring back indexation. Without indexation it's simply a wealth tax by the back door.

Agree with pp that governments can't create growth. They can however create the conditions for growth, which they have utterly failed to do. Obvious issues are raising employers' NICs, Brexit (not Labour's fault tbf) and the pledge not to raise certain taxes combined with a lack of willing to cut spending, which has meant they're reduced to tinkering around with IHT exemptions and housing taxes, which will raise two thirds of fuck all while causing misery and confusion.

What they should do- get rid of stamp duty. Cut benefit spending. Cut employers' NICs. Get rid of IHT exemptions but cut the rate to 10%. Commit to rejoin the EU asap.

Kirbert2 · 13/10/2026 10:20

I'm on benefits and can't work so clearly just one of the lazy feckers who will be sat there watching the budget on TV with my hands out expecting more to go along with the luxurious lifestyle that is benefits.

......Meanwhile in the real world, I imagine I'll spend the night before unable to sleep worried about any potential benefit cuts and if they went ahead, how I'd then be able to feed my child. Yes, luxury lifestyle indeed.

OK so let's agree some of these people exist. There are absolutely people with mental health and addiction problems or just general rubbish people who pop out kids all the time with no means to care for them.

What do you propose we do?

Based on any measure, not being able to care for these kids doesn't stop people like this from popping them out. Stopping their benefits won't stop them having kids they can't care for, if they cared about that they wouldn't be having them now. It'll just mean the kids starve.

Places like India in the last century went through large-scale sterilization programs where they sterilized poor people to stop them having more kids. Is that what we'd want in our country?

The rot set in when Rachel-from-accounts put the NI contributions up. So much for all the Socialist rollocks about "not taxing working people".
Most people in business have seen their NI bill go up 15%.
Here much work is in hospitality, seasonal and spasmodic so employers can't always work out how many staff are needed.

What happens when you become ill or disabled after you have had the children?

I find it very funny that the same people shout reduce the benefits bill and then shout even louder when the triple lock is under threat or Starmer tried to reduce the winter fuel allowance.
If and when they do something radical to benefits because we do not have sufficient taxpayers to shoulder the cost (very low birth rate and huge anti immigration feeling) some people will feel that pinch harder than others.
The trick is to find a compromise that works for all and labour are more likely to do that than any of the other parties.
The tories have had their chance and failed and reform/restore are nothing but hate filled horror stories.

@Catsandcheesegenuinely think Labour is as bad as the rest of them! They got voted in with Starmer, then the back benchers through a hissy fit as they didn’t like his policies to bring welfare payments down, so they planned and coup to get Burnham in, which whether you like him or not nobody voted for! They are all the same! Out for themselves!

@Catsandcheese "I find it very funny that the same people shout reduce the benefits bill and then shout even louder when the triple lock is under threat or Starmer tried to reduce the winter fuel allowance."

Starmer didn't do himself any favours by trying to "pick pensioners' pockets" the minute they came into office. They could have means-tested the Winter Fuel Allowance (I'm damn sure Charles & Camilla don't need it) and done that gradually.
And I'm sick of Pensions being classed as "Benefits". Most people I know have paid into the system for years and are entitled to it.
I worked 25 years F/T for the NHS in a clinical capacity and was having a third of my salary being taken out in stoppages. As far as I'm concerned I have paid for my pension.

If you're good at maths work out what % of the country actually voted for Airmiles Andy. It isn't actually democracy at work.
